WITNESS (1985) * FIRSTT IME WATCHING * REACTION AND COMMENTARYAdded:
Hi, welcome to the channel. If you're new here, hi. My name is Ashley and if you're a returner, welcome back. How is Harrison Ford both the fugitive and the witness?
If you haven't seen the title or read the thumbnail, we are continuing on in this franchise Friday, well filmography really of Harrison Ford. Now, last Friday we watched Bladeunner and uh it wasn't my favorite Harrison Ford movie and some of y'all did not like that opinion and that is a-ok. Okay. Once again, I just think when I read the scrolly text, I thought it would be more action-packed fighting, not like searching like Chinatown, like detective. I thought it would be like But anyways, we're not here to talk about that movie. We are here to talk about The Witness. And um if you don't know my little joke that I made, Harrison Ford was also in the movie called The Fugitive or Just Fugitive.
And now we're watching a movie called Witness. Sorry, how can you be both?
Pick one side and stick with it. Uh anyways, I love Harrison Ford. If you didn't know that, now you know that. I love him. I love looking at him. If this movie is called Witness, I'm going to assume that a crime has occurred. Is he the witness or is he the person who commits the crime and somebody else is the witness?
Who wants in now? Beans. The cats are so needy today. Anyways, I'm excited about it. Witness implies that something is going to happen.
Am I going to I don't know if that's going to be action-packed. I'm trying to cleanse my brain of any preconceived ideas. I don't know if this is going to be like a mystery where, you know, are we a detective looking for somebody? Are we the person that commits the crime and we got to find the witness who saw and take care of them? I don't know. I also don't know who else is going to be in this other than Harrison Ford, but I'm already sold. So, no more dailing. Let's get right on into today's franchise Friday for Harrison Ford, which is Witness.
Nudity. Oh, we can. Is it Harrison Ford?
Harrison Ford. We knew that.
Okay. Okay. So, I haven't recognized any of the other names yet. Oh, Danny Glover. I do know Danny Glover. See, I spoke too soon.
This is an Amish family.
I want y'all to know y'all make the best butter.
Pennsylvania, 1984. We actually have I mean, I think we have a large Amish population here in Tennessee and Kentucky, in case you didn't know.
Oh, for the sleeve.
>> Oh, this is a funeral. And for a child, that's a tiny casket. Oh, no.
>> Wasn't it your father sold the horse with a corruption testicle?
>> Well, I mean, you don't need a testicle to function totally.
>> Has one good ball.
>> I mean, he's not wrong. It only takes one good ball.
I got to give it to you Amish, which if you're watching this, sinner, but you know, your faith has to be so incredibly strong to know that like there's cars, there's air conditioning, you know what I mean? And your and you you know what I mean? All I'm saying is I guess I'm more of a sinner than the Amish people because the minute I went on that little, you know, that little vacation that the Amish people get to go on where they get to try the real world, you know, the minute I saw air conditioning and a computer, game over.
Yep. Yep. That happens a lot. That happens a lot in Mayfield, Kentucky. Got an Amish population over there. Yep.
See how you going to be right beside a Dairy Queen and not be tempted. Well, I guess they are tempted, but they just again have more faith than me. Stronger will power. Good for y'all.
A You know what? You know what? Get you a man. Find you a man that would ride on on a horse and buggy keeping up with the train to wait body.
>> Don't go far, Samuel.
>> Samuel reminds me of the antagonist in um Children of the Corin. Creepy kid.
Oh, that's not an Amish. That's a Jewish guy, right? I don't know. I don't know.
I don't know. All these religions that wear fun hats.
So, do Amish people always got to wear their hats? Well, I clearly need to watch a documentary about the Amish culture and religion.
Hi, Danny Glover. Hi, Danny. How are you?
>> Hey, man.
>> Whoa. Uh, whoa, whoa, whoa.
What the hell is happen? Why? For what reason?
No. Shh.
Keep your mouth closed, kid.
Oh, smart. OH, YOUR HAT. OH MY GOD. You know what? Solid survival skills from this kid. Pleasantly surprised.
Bet y'all wishing y'all never left the farm, huh?
>> Hey, Harrison Ford. What's your name?
>> Oh, come on now. Come on now.
>> Sister is expecting as soon our train is leaving.
>> We'll get you on another train.
>> I was going to say y'all ain't leaving till this gets sorted.
>> Nobody's had a chance to talk to.
>> What did he look like? The man that you saw.
>> If you point at that black police officer, I'm going to die.
>> Was like him.
>> Black skin.
>> Yeah.
That notic.
What does that mean? small like that. He stomp a runt.
>> Did he just call this other guy a runt?
That is hilarious.
>> A suspect. We got reason to believe he's still in the neighborhood. And uh I want the little boy to take a look at.
>> Ah, it feels a little dangerous, don't you think?
>> Your name? I told him we didn't need to know anything about you.
>> Damn.
Okay. And also, Amish people have different laws. Is it like sacred land that they're on that they the federal I have so many questions about Amish culture now?
Are the Amish people about to get out and go into a bar?
Now you being unnecessarily rough with somebody who might not be a perpetrator.
>> Where do you want him? The back bedroom.
The blue room.
>> Oh yeah, sure. The blue room.
>> Oh, his sister is not happy about this.
And honestly, I don't blame him.
I told you I had company.
>> A male company.
>> John says you're Amish.
>> Yes.
>> Oh, good talk. Glad you had it.
>> See your prayers.
>> Now I lay me down to sleep. I pray the Lord my soul to keep. Did anybody else have to do that little bedtime prayer?
And if I die before I wake, I pray the Lord my soul to take. Anybody else do that? spending all his time with the man who carries a gun and goes around whacking people.
>> He doesn't go around whacking people.
And also, don't y'all have guns on your little communities?
This is a lot of pressure to put on a little kid. He don't know what he's doing.
>> This we call >> Gorcham. Hot dog. Gorcham.
Yeah, you already took a bite and they got to pray.
>> Your sister said you don't have a family.
>> Wow. You and his sister talk a whole bunch.
>> He thinks that you ought to get married and have children of your own instead of trying to be a father to hers.
>> Oh, you going to get tangled up in some family beef.
>> She thinks that you like policing because you think you're right about it.
Uh, crook from um, bag of elbows.
>> Well, that is hilarious. He's getting read to filth by an Amish woman.
>> Hey, >> how are you doing, sir?
>> Like, are there any other descriptors that this that Samuel could give him?
You know, mention that he was wearing a suit.
Oh. Oh, you gota Jesus Christ. Okay. You know what, Samuel? Go back to your parent. You think this little kid would have learned his lesson the first time?
>> It's a really good police station. They got a lot of awards.
Oh, but it's another police officer that did this. What?
Why would another police officer kill one of his own?
McI Lieutenant Narcotics.
>> Right. That was my reaction. Why would he be doing this?
>> Philadelphia supplies all the major cities in the country with speed.
>> So we think McI is a supplier now.
>> They pay $5,000 a pint.
>> 5K for a pint.
>> 55gallon drums of P2P. It's $22 million.
>> Jesus Christ. I would have sold it too.
>> You talked to him about it? No, we ain't talked to him about it. What kind of dumb question is that?
>> Who else knows about this? Just you and I. Let's leave it that way.
>> I don't like that because what if he's in on it? What if he's in on it, too?
What if he took a cut? I watch too many movies. I don't trust cops in movies anymore.
Oh. Oh.
See who who alerted McY? Who alerted to M Mc Mel?
>> Damn. Damn.
Who told Mcy? It had to be the captain guy. Well, John's the captain.
Lieutenant guy. The guy we just talked to, whatever his title is.
Did you get hit? Did you get hit? And it's not it's not a little pain either.
>> You never heard of that woman and her boy.
>> Oh, so it's serious. It's like everybody's a target now.
>> You said we would be safe in Philadelphia.
>> Well, I was wrong.
>> Also, John, we got to get you to a hospital. You got shot.
>> Watch your back.
Schaer's in this thing, too.
>> Yep. What I'd tell you. Yep. Yep. Yep.
Yep. Yep. Yep. Yep. Told you.
>> Hello.
>> What's going on?
>> And now it's like, who can we trust? If we can't trust the top dog, who can we trust?
Well, that's a cute little car, man. I love a good police corruption story.
>> Oh, yeah. I guess old Rachel and Samuel couldn't phone home cuz Amish PEOPLE AIN'T GOT NO PHONES.
>> Will you be coming back to take Samuel to trial?
>> If he can make it through this gunshot wound.
Oh, see he done passed that out the will. Yeah. And took and took out a birdhouse. make a report. And if they make a report, they'll find me.
>> Oh, well, now I know why he didn't go to the hospital.
>> Hell yeah. Grandpa going fast as >> the English dead.
>> No, >> look.
>> Thank you, Grandpa.
>> I feel burning.
>> Oh, so an infection started.
>> Came out there.
>> Okay. Okay. So, what organs are on your right side of your body?
>> There's nothing I can do for him.
>> No, >> nothing at all.
>> The people who did this to him will come get Samuel.
>> Yeah, it's a way big story that we haven't had time to fill you in on it.
But you're not going to believe it.
>> Speak with the elders on this matter as you see fit.
>> Why? Because we're helping an English guy. Because there's an English guy on our property.
>> Oh, smart. Good job. We got to hide the car.
I'm already calling the complicated love story that's going to happen between these two.
>> Yo, bro, you dead. Check his breathing.
Check his paws or something.
>> Can locate this woman? We're talking about 20th century law enforcement.
>> Right. Correct.
>> Now, there must be a directory of some sort of these people somewhere.
>> No, I don't think so. But since the Amish don't have any telephones, I wouldn't know who to call.
>> Correct. Correct. Exactly. That's what I've been saying.
Oh, hello everybody. How's it going? I reckon these are the elders.
>> Rest, Mr. Oak. That's the ticket. And uh drink my tea.
>> What's in your tea? That makes it so healing.
>> Wow. They're really not going to ask.
Like I feel like if they had full proper context, you know what I mean? It would just relieve everybody that this is also helping to protect Samuel. I just feel like it would help.
Uh-uh. Uh-uh. You better get out of that. And you're picking it up by the trigger. Oh my god. Like your thumb's in the trigger hole.
>> What are you doing?
>> Scare the out of me. Thanks for saving that kid.
>> I'm safe.
Okay.
>> Okay, Mr. Book. In Samuel's defense, he didn't know what a loaded gun looked like.
I was going to say Rachel's going to lose her seeing Samuel hold the gun. I really thought Amish people could have guns. I just assume they hunted and stuff, you know.
>> There is never only one way. Remember that.
>> Okay, that's a good little quote.
There's never only one way.
>> And you know these bad men by sight.
>> Yeah, he kind of did see somebody slit somebody's throat, but you don't know that.
What's that?
>> While he's here, he's got a dress like y'all, too.
>> In your clothes, you'd stand out to strangers.
>> Oh, so it's kind of like you're undercover. Oh, I like it. I like it.
Blending in.
>> Something wrong with buttons.
>> Buttons are hmoot.
>> Hawkmoot.
Y'all can't even have buttons. So, what's the difference between Menanites and Amish people? Menites can have a little bit electricity and modern conveniences.
Your bridge is a little short there, buddy.
>> Where are the bullets, though? Are they in the gun?
>> Uh, how do I look? I mean, do I look uh Amish?
>> Yeah, you look Amish.
>> Is that an Englishman?
>> Oh, that's why he looks silly.
>> Don't do it. You couldn't get within a mile shaer right now.
>> And what about you? Are they not coming after you?
>> Take care of yourself.
>> Yeah, me too.
>> And see, like, he can't get a hold of John.
You know what I mean? Amish people don't have phones. And that pay phone is in across the valley.
>> Don't put them in the beaches.
>> Well, that's very kind and respectful of him.
>> The well and the well goes into the house.
>> Well, look at you, Sam. You're big knowing big stuff. Proud of you. Would you like to hold my kitten?
>> Look at the baby cat. Look.
>> Just trying to get the car started. The battery.
>> You're well enough to do that.
>> Also, how are you under a barn right now?
>> Get up.
>> Oh, this is his wake up call to start milking them cows.
>> It's 4:30. Time for milking.
>> 4:30 in the morning.
No, couldn't be me. No thanks.
>> Can you hear me? Squeeze.
I am squeez.
>> I've never milked a cow before, but I have tried to milk a goat. And it is a lot harder than it than you think it would be. You think you just like, but you can't.
Goodness gracious. He just flew across that room.
>> Honey, that's great coffee.
>> Thank you.
>> It's a joke. Sorry.
>> Oh, I thought he was just being like overly enthusiastic.
>> My name is Daniel.
>> Daniel Flightner.
>> So, is it a compliment for them to say that they look plain? That's what they're going for, right? Nothing stands out and stuff.
Well, that little love triangle is going to be a show real fast.
I would look at him like that, too.
Rachel, I'd be lusting after Harrison Ford as well.
Well, goodness. Goodness gracious. You thirsty little guy. I mean, I believe it. It's hot.
>> He's a friend of the family. He's like a son to Eli.
>> Mhm. And a suitor to you.
>> Whacking is not much use on a farm.
>> He's gotten kind of good at milking cows.
>> Weeny roses. I don't know anything about >> Hey, you fixed the battery at least a little bit.
>> Science books.
Don't know much about the French I took.
Don't ask me who sings this song, but I have heard it before. And look at y'all falling in love.
>> Y'all gonna kiss a little bit. You going to kiss?
Oh my god, look at Oh, the way he's looking into her eyes and then he keeps dancing instead. Girls here.
>> Oh, you're in trouble. Oh, are they not supposed to listen to music either?
Well, radio. Radio. I see. Whoopsies.
>> Fear of English with guns coming after.
>> I've committed no sin.
>> No. And she's actually protected her son.
>> Talk about going to the bishop and having you shunned.
>> Oh, no. Oh, so if you get shunned in the Amish, you you're still a part of the community, but like nobody can have anything to do with you.
>> If you shame me, >> you shame yourself.
>> Oh, sick Amish burn.
>> I just want to talk to him.
>> I don't think Carter actually knows where he's at, right? I mean, he knows he ran, but I don't think he knows that he's on the Amish farm.
>> God, I'd give anything to see him now.
>> It is very funny. He's flooding and it's He's kind of cute in his little hat.
>> John has broken those rules.
>> No, he hasn't.
You broke the rules and he's trying to bring you to justice.
>> Oh, Daniel's butt hurt that John's there. Oh, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait. They're at the barn raising.
Hell yeah.
>> Hurry up now. We have a barn to raise and a day to do it.
>> We're building a barn from scratch in a day. For real. For real?
>> What are we doing? We're l Oh. Oh. Oh.
We're raising the wall. The barn.
Ashley. We're at a barn raising. You got to raise the walls.
Now, how we keep it from just falling over to the people who are pulling? Does it go in a hole?
These little kids walking around barefoot with all these nails going to step on something.
Well, look at them sharing a little glass of lemonade, getting along. Okay, honestly though, why am I kind of getting emotional about their sense of community? Like, wow, everybody in the group showed up to help build this man's barn, and it's because everybody feeds into each other. You know, his barn's going to come in handy for the entire community. That's nice. That's nice.
Oh, and look, she's serving him the liquid first. Oh, she served him first in front of the elders. She has some to prove.
>> You got really built the whole barn in a day. That's impressive. And the women were over there doing their little crossstitching, needle points, or whatever the it's called.
>> It's their barn you built today.
>> Oh, we just got married.
>> Well, congratulations you guys. That's cute.
Oh, we fitting to be sin. I'm calling it right now. We fitting to sin. Oh, like do Amish women shave their legs and stuff. Is that allowed?
Or is that vain? I mean, if buttons are bad, I don't even know anymore. Oh my god, he's watching her shower.
Oh, we just full on cut. All right.
We only lightly sinned. It wasn't even a full sin. Damn it.
>> Not the little kitty cats running around playing.
>> If we made love last night, I'd have to stay.
>> Maybe I should HAVE >> AMISH. Who calls it Amish?
>> Picture hat. A little bit >> lady. You take my picture with that thing. I'm going to rip your bazair off.
>> Oh. Oh, damn. Spicy.
>> Uh, uh, Sergeant Carter.
>> Are you a member of the family?
>> What does that mean? Why can't he talk to Carter?
>> I regret to inform you, Sergeant Carter is dead.
>> Uh-uh.
>> That's It was absolutely a hit job. It's because he didn't tell him where John was. That's That's awful. Now John has to go back to avenge his friend.
>> Hello John.
>> Oh, see I'm too nosy. If I were her, I'd keep listening on the phone.
>> Oh, why would you do that to the horse?
That's so mean. Why would you pick on these people anyway? But >> what?
>> It's not our way, but it's my way.
No.
>> Book's about to get exiled. He's about to get kicked out. He's not allowed to do this.
Boom. Gotcha.
>> Damn. Absolutely. Broke his nose, but he deserved it.
>> Around here, the brethren don't have anything like that.
>> And now the police is coming. Oh. Oh, no.
>> Where did you get that book? Gave it to me.
>> Well, that's really nice.
Oh, all his work's almost done. He's putting up the bird house. He did the barn. He gave Samuel a present. Oh, he's he's leaving. And that a bird house.
That's a bird McMansion.
>> He's leaving, isn't he?
>> Tomorrow morning.
>> He punched a kid today.
>> I just wonder is she going to go with him though? Because I don't think he would stay. Especially after punching that kid. I think he has to go. And I kind of want Rachel to go with him.
Oh. Oh, Lord. They kissing. Okay. She's going to get shunned. She's going with him.
And they just out here in a field, you know. Oh, Eli and Jebid and them watching. You know they are. They nosy as >> They're not even going to wait till like total sundown. They just walking up. Oh, man.
>> It's all right. We're police officers.
>> The bad police officers.
Oh. Oh. Oh, and all that milk just spilled. All that hard work.
I feel like the kid being with Book is a bad idea. Like, he's going to get hurt.
>> Run, Samuel.
Run.
See, I feel like that little boy is small enough that he could just hide in the high grass for a while, you know?
Oh, no. The car won't start. What did you do wrong?
Smart, smart, smart, smart. Good job.
He's Is Samuel gonna go back and help him?
Now, I tell you what would be really funny if one of them cows kicked the [ __ ] out of that guy.
What's your plan? What's your plan?
What's your plan?
Are we about to suffocate this man with corn?
Yep. Yep. Yep. Yep. Well, he's dying.
He's dying. You can die in corn.
Yep. Yep. Yep. This is my biggest fear as a kid growing up on the farm because my grandfather would not let me go play on the grain bins and he'd be like, "If you step on the corn, you can get sucked under like quicksand and suffocate." And there's so much pressure from the corner kernels around you that you can't move.
There's no climbing out, you know.
Anyway, it's big fear of mine growing up. So, it's crazy that it's in this movie.
Okay, but we still got to hide Samuel from this other guy.
What? What the does that mean?
The does that mean, dude?
You going to be digging for a minute, but good luck with that.
Scared the out of me. Got him.
Got him.
>> Oh, so the old man said to ring THE BELL.
>> YOU IDIOT.
>> YOU STUPID GUNS DOWN.
>> EVERYBODY'S yelling and I'm stressed.
Everybody's yelling and I'm stressed.
Oh, the bell is to call for everybody to come. Oh, >> YOU GOING TO SHOOT HIM?
>> IS THAT WHAT YOU'RE GOING TO DO, PAUL?
>> BOLD CHOICE BEING MADE RIGHT NOW.
Punch his lights out. I think he needs to be unconscious. I wouldn't be I I would think that this man might kill himself. You know what I mean?
I think they're going to shun Rachel now because of what she brought onto the community.
>> A a could make such a cute family though.
Somebody's got a tough choice. You staying or leaving? You staying or leaving?
>> You be careful out among them English.
That was very sweet of Eli.
Oh, Daniel's going to be pumped to know John Books leaving. That way he can have Rachel for himself again.
Oh, and it's over.
And it's over.
I don't think this would have an end credit scene. And it don't. All right, let's talk about it.
Okay, if you would have told me, Ashley, you're going to watch two Harrison Ford movies. One is going to be where Harrison Ford is a cop and becomes Amish, or one where Harrison Ford is a cop hunting robots in the future.
If you would have told me that I would have liked the Amish movie better than the futuristic robot one, I would have told you that you were crazy. I would have told you that that is not true. I love this movie. This is a great movie.
And I also kind of like you get a happy ending in the fact that like, you know, we are bringing at least one of the bad guys to justice. You know, we're here to assume that he's going to take Schaefer and whatever. Um really sucks about his partner Carter.
That's real messed up. So anyways, that's sad. But you also don't get the happy ending in that him and Rachel don't end up together. you know, they just have this unspoken love, you know, and they're just like, "Whoopsies, gotta go." You know, what do you mean Amish people can't use buttons?
What?
I'm sorry. I'm still hung up on that. I You know what? I Okay, so me and Hubbin are one of those people. We are those people that like we'll find out about something and then we get really into it and we watch every documentary or interview about it. That's about to be me with the Is is Amish considered a culture or a religion?
Oh, okay. It's both. The Amish are both a deeply conservative Christian religion and a distinctive culture characterized by simple living, traditional clothing, and rejection of modern technologies.
But Menites, Menanites were like, "Oh my god." So Amish and Menites literally are like how we have a first Baptist church and a second Baptist church. It's like one denomination that couldn't agree on some stuff and they please. Anyways, anyways, anyways, anyway. So now I feel like I need to watch a lot of documentaries and information about Amish people just because interesting. I really enjoyed this movie. I thought it was great between like the little kid being the witness and he was having to be, you know, find show the bad guy and then the fact that it was a corrupt cop and it went all the way up to the top and then an entire the Amish community rallying around, you know, John Book even though they didn't really like him, they still value life, you know what I mean? have.
I was so worried a couple times that they were going to shun Rachel, even though they never did anything. They never did anything. I mean, she showed it to stand there with her out, but other than that, they technically didn't do anything. I really like this movie, and I did. Call me crazy.
I like this one better than Bladeunner.
Again, if y'all would have told me that, I I would have never believed you. I would have said you're a liar and you don't know me.
But here we are. Anyways, I have no idea right now what's coming up on the channel. That means that there are polls over on Patreon right now for you to vote on. I know I'm planning on doing and they're probably live right now.
Doing like an immemorial poll because we had quite a few celebrities died recently and so I know that's coming up.
Maybe a baseball movie on the way as well just because baseball season starts. So, um, of course we're doing more Harrison Fords Harrison Fords.
We're doing more Harrison Ford movies on Fridays. Um, so I know those polls are coming up. And of course, we got Stranger Things on Wednesdays. That's all I know right now. Everything else is voted on for you by you over on Patreon.
And if you want to be my friend outside of the YouTube verse, I got links down below, so you can join me there. Until then, I hope you like, subscribe, stick around, take your meds, drink your water. Love you. Bye.
