[00:00:22]>> God, the new High School Musical remake looks rubbish, don't it? Welcome back to another fat acceptance reaction video from someone who used to resemble a face in the wolf fat person that you see on holiday. Let's begin.

But jokes aside, I think the worst thing about that video is that some random bloke will be out there loving it, begging for more. And I did check for an OF link and there was nothing. Typical. Also, the fat around our stomach is visceral fat, which actually can be quite dangerous. So, it's very important to be aware of when you are losing weight. We do have stubborn areas all over our body. It might be our belly, it might be our love handles, it can be absolutely anywhere.

[00:01:13]But staying patient in a calorie deficit is very important because the fat we want to lose first is typically the last thing we will lose. And also with that, you can't spot reduce fat with any sort of workouts. You lose fat all over your body. Making sure patience is the most important thing when in a calorie deficit.

[00:01:28]>> Fat phobia, period. If society didn't paint fat people in a negative light, there would be no reason why anybody wouldn't want to date us. But instead, you guys want to hold on to this logic that you're not dating fat people all on your own. Even though society coerced you into feeling that way. We don't grow two heads at night. Five people are some of the most hilarious, gorgeous, amazing people that I have ever met. The plus-siz community on this app is absolutely [ __ ] amazing, and people should be honored to date anybody from that platform.

[00:01:59]>> Or maybe it's because they're just not attracted to them. And beauty is a preference thing. So, let's say with me, if someone didn't want to go out with me just because I'm bored, which would be common sense. I couldn't turn around and say, "Oh, you're only not going out with me because I'm white." That's ridiculous. Fat phobia should make you uncomfortable because it is intertwined with every single other system of oppression that exists.

[00:02:22]It is related to sexism, racism, homophobia, xenophobia, classism.

[00:02:33]And so when you talk about one, you talk about it all.

[00:02:39]Which is why I say it is irresponsible, disrespectful, and hateful to come on this app and be fat phobic.

[00:02:54]>> While it's definitely not okay to mistreat someone just because they're fat, but it does not belong in the same conversation as racism and homophobia because adding fat phobia along with them two things is more out of its depth than a albino in a sunbed. Because those other things can't be controlled and dictated unlike your weight. You can control your weight. Is it difficult?

[00:03:11]Yes. Especially when you don't have the best genetics. But it can be changed unlike your race and your sexual preference. That's why it doesn't belong in the same conversation.

[00:03:26]Yeah. Again, critical thinking could be quite beneficial. Research. Ever heard of Google? I assume you have internet because you're on TikTok. Um, Google could be beneficial, too. Um, it's just like this is exactly how fake news spreads. This is absolutely incorrect.

[00:03:46]>> So, if you didn't read the caption, it basically says people that still exercise but are still fat are fat because they're not burning off more calories than what they're burning off a day. Therefore, they can't lose weight, which is completely correct. And I'm not sure what sort of research you're talking about because you can't outwork a bad diet. What you need is a sustainable calorie deficit. Maybe lose 1% of your body weight per week along with a cardio goal you can manage that's low impact. Maybe something like walking. Those two put together will give you the best results possible.

[00:04:13]>> Want to talk about our fat phobic society for a second. I have a family member who she has been skinny pretty her entire life. No one has ever ever told her to like lose weight or diet.

[00:04:27]Oh, you need to get healthy. You need to be healthy. No one has ever given her any of those innuendos or um side like sly compliments, but like it was like a sly disc cuz like you know for fat people as if you're a fat person then you know our whole society tells you like lose weight, you need to be healthy. It's for your health. It's for your health. Well, this family member who has been skinny pretty her entire life is an avid smoker. She's been smoking since she was like 13 or something, right? And so at 26 I think uh she had her lungs collapsed. One of her lungs collapsed. And so now she lives the rest of her life without full capacity, lung capacity. And not one person has ever said, "You need to be more healthy." And I think that we demonize fat people in our society because we just automatically assume if you're fat, you're unhealthy. Which is so not true. It's just because uh the fat phobia that's embedded in our society. take a moment to really think about, you know, what you're saying.

[00:05:29]>> So, if that story is to be believed, which I don't need in the slice, to be honest, there's no way some kids been smoking since 13 years old and her parents have just said nothing about it.

[00:05:38]They make Kevin Mallister's parents look bloody good. Because I love how you've used a family member's health concerns as ammunition for your agenda against the fat phobic society you're around.

[00:05:46]Like, imagine her parents coming into a room and telling her this had happened.

[00:05:50]Oh, sorry to tell you, Emily's lungs have collapsed. It's really not looking good. Have they? Oh, brilliant news. So, I'll be making a Tik Tok about that. And saying just because you're fat doesn't make you unhealthy. Well, maybe not at this moment, but in the future, what about in 10 years time? Because it is researched that being morbidly obese can lead to your life expectancy being decreased. So, you might be healthy now, but what about in 10 years?

Because you've taken a very clear argument, which is that weight loss is not the determinant for health and construed into an argument that is losing weight for your health is fat phobic. But it's the same question I ask people all the time when they make this argument that you have made, which is if you stayed the exact same weight that you were when you started, but all of your co-orbidities changed, right? All of them disappeared and your blood work was better and your cholesterol was better and your blood pressure was better and you felt like you could do more this that you were more mobile. of mobility is important to you, but you were the exact same weight that you were when you started or the exact same pants size that you were when you started, would you feel like you are a failure? That is and always has been the point. That is and always has been the thing that is described as fat phobic. So, how about you go live your best life and stop demonizing fat?

[00:07:03]>> But that scenario you've just made up cannot exist with excess weight onto your frame. I can make up a hypothetical scenario where I don't look like one of the robots from I am robot. It'd be lovely to live in, but it's just not reality. And saying if mobility is important to you, well, maybe not to Christopher Reeves, it isn't, but for the rest of us, we should be very thankful for the privileged position we are in because there'll be millions of people around the world who wish we had the mobility we do.

[00:07:36]You did what you wanted to do for yourself, hopefully. Um, why do you have to bring other people down though?

[00:07:51]We are all fat phobic to some degree, including myself. I find myself thinking things that I should not be thinking because society ingrained fat phobia so deeply that it's just normal. So, the original post she was responding to was someone who' lost weight and saying that they don't want to ever get fat again because their life is 10 times easier. I mean, I don't really see the harm in that to be honest. So, where is the crime in that statement? Saying that your life is a lot easier now that you're not overweight as I'm in the exact same position myself where tying my shoelaces is no longer an Olympic level event. It's a lot easier. So, I don't see the fat phobia. Therefore, discrimination in that statement >> that someone can gain weight without having excess calories or more calories than a thin person. You can look those up. Like it's there's lots of conditions that have weight gain, but the thing is it's based in sustainability and it's not sustainable long term to just do calories in, calories out. Your body will gain the weight back. 95% of people who intentionally lose weight through dieting and exercise, keyword intentional, gain the weight back and more within 5 years. So, it's not as simple as just calories in, calories out.

[00:09:05]>> Calories in versus calories out is definitely sustainable. You've just got to pick a sustainable calorie deficit you can stick to for the long term and don't crash diet and try and lose as much weight as quickly as possible. And if you have been dieting for a few months and you're feeling a little bit tired and exhausted or maybe you've got a holiday or something coming up, you can go on something called a diet break where for two weeks or so you go back to your maintenance calories. Then you go back into a deficit after those two weeks feeling a lot more energized, therefore seeing out the rest of the diet. And just remember, weight loss is not a race to see who can lose as much weight as possible in a short period of time. Think about the long-term sustainable goals you can stick by. Cuz that's what I think a lot of these people run into. They go for quick crash diets that don't have any sustainability behind them, and they don't embed long-term habits.

[00:09:49]>> Surviving as a fat Asian woman means existing in a world that was not made for you. Life is always going to throw challenges in and out of the gym for me.

[00:09:59]But boxing has helped me learn to roll with the punches and conquer whatever comes my way. Since starting boxing, I not only have been stronger physically, but I am stronger mentally. If I know I can throw punches at 7 a.m. or do a burpee, I can do whatever challenge life throws at me.

[00:10:15]>> Now, it's good to see Jake Bull's next opponent putting in the hard work in the middle of Primark. But boxing is a great form of cardio, just like any form of cardio you can stick by and get better at over time. So, if you are someone that's losing weight, don't be shy to try out different cardio regimes and see which ones you like and you can stick to, and that will give you the best long-term success.

[00:10:33]>> If a fat person tells you that fat people are oppressed and your response is, "Well, I have insecurities, too."

[00:10:39]There's a problem. One is an individual experience and the other is systematic oppression. And if you don't believe that fat people are oppressed, it's probably because you've never been fat enough to be oppressed by fat oppression. The pick me, I want to be oppressed too energy is getting really tiring.

[00:10:58]>> So, I get from being overweight myself, overweight people aren't treated too nicely in certain scenarios. You're treated worse than what James Corden treats restaurant staff absolutely terribly. But where this oppression falls down is when overweight people say, "If you don't want to be fat, that makes you fat phobic." It becomes oppression from fat people. When someone loses a considerable amount of weight, and they're made to feel like a bad person for making that decision, that's when this whole logic falls apart. You quickly go from the oppressed to the oppressor. Now, are there real concerns for overweight people out there in the world? Absolutely. The misdiagnosis from doctors to overweight people is a concern. People not being able to afford the therapy to go over their food addiction is once again a concern. But these things aren't brought up anywhere near enough from the fat acceptance community. So that's all the clips I wanted to go over. Hopefully you enjoyed this video and learned something from it.
