Emmett Till, a 14-year-old African American boy murdered in Mississippi in 1955, is buried in the Maple Woods section of Burr Cemetery in Chicago, Illinois; his brutal murder and the subsequent trial of his killers sparked the civil rights movement, directly inspiring Rosa Parks' refusal to move from her bus seat, making him a pivotal figure in American history.
