Remote Australian campsites, particularly in windy coastal areas like Ningaloo, can experience severe rodent infestations where mice and rats enter vehicles through open bonnets to nest in dark engine bays, potentially chewing through electrical wiring and causing vehicle damage that may not be covered by comprehensive insurance policies.

THE Silent 4WD KILLER at Ningaloo Beach Camps! Bogged 4WD and infested camp sites! No Insurance!Added:
Hopefully they hate this music.
>> Oh, this is a classic example. Happens.
There's a place in Australia, an off-grid paradise so beautiful that people literally spend $20,000 in fuel and drive weeks straight just to see.
There's a reason it's one of our favorite places, but this time it was stressful and one hell of a disturbing disaster. It's definitely not the place you want to be in limp mode. And if you own a full drive, a caravan, or really any vehicle at all, you need to watch this one because this might save your setup.
>> Just move out of the way a little bit.
>> What we found nearly cost us everything.
And the best part about it, and that sarcasm, is our insurance company didn't even cover us. That's bull.
We left Broom and we started heading south. We stopped in at Karatha for a beer with our mates Grant and Tamara.
And we unlocked a new reason why we try to avoid caravan parks.
He's got a fast. That's all I'm saying.
With a bit of WD40, it would have been a lot more discreet. Mate, after that brand new experience, we headed south excited to take you guys to one of our favorite places in Australia. We didn't know it at the time, but we're about to have one hell of an experience. Good day, guys. Welcome back to another video. Today, we have got a super special one planned. We are heading into Ningaloo Station, one of our favorite places. And guess what? Ningaloo Road is back open. So, for many years, while there was a big freaking fire that come through here, a lot of sand got swept onto Ningaloo Road. They shut it for many years. You don't you'd only be able to access this part of the coast from either Xmouth, which is a massive detail, or Coral Bay. But like I said, Ningaloo Road's back open and it's literally going to be saving us at like an hour and a half today. So, we cannot wait to show you what the track looks like. It says 4x4 only. So, I'm probably guessing that they haven't fully fixed the track. So, we're going to show you exactly what it's like today. It's an absolute treat. The weather's dropped about 10°. We're absolutely loving it.
And uh we cannot wait to hook up to some good fish. So, let's get on the road and hopefully we can make it.
Degraded.
I'm misplaced in every way that you can think of. Downrated, intoxicated.
I'm dismantled to pieces. I can't move on.
Can't you see falling down?
Falling down again.
Down. Tell me everything is okay.
>> All right, so we're just on our way into Ningloo and the road is absolutely trashed. It's very corrugated. There's heaps of like big whoops and yeah, it doesn't seem like it's been graded in a very very long time. I do understand that we're at the end of the peak season.
>> Well, we are in the offse.
>> We're in the offse.
>> Well and truly, but so we're probably getting the worst road out of everyone this year. Um, and that's all right because it's only like 50k or 40k or whatever it is. Like you wouldn't want to road like this for 6 700k like the Gibb or the Cape or Arnumland sort of road length. But it's definitely manageable. But I can see why they're saying full drive only cuz you can't get up to speed. So you've got to do like 30k an hour because they're just like these huge wash outs and yeah, like it's I reckon a semi-offroad van will get in here. It's just >> you got to take your time. That's all I'll say. The road's absolutely shocking. So, don't bring your nana with false teeth down this road because her false teeth will end up on the floor of the car pretty quick. So, anyway, let's keep going. Hopefully, we can make it.
There's been there was a um someone wrote on the sign back there that the end of this road shut and they've dated the when they graffitied >> three days ago. But, you think if people had bookings out here that the Department of Parks and Wildlife would actually email everyone and let them know. So, I reckon they've just made a little whoopsie and gone to the wrong place or something. I don't know.
>> Yeah, we'll see. But I think the road Yeah, I'm pretty sure we'll be able to get through.
A prison in itself I know to be stuck between the bars.
The strong has scars.
You can never go back.
Struggle to survive and you're still alive.
Even if you're feeling mist, >> everything was going well, almost too well. And in true SKT fashion, this happened.
Interrupting the video for one second.
Itch welder having their end of financial year sale. And it is up to 50% off. You heard that right. Half price.
And with our discount code SKT, you can make that up to 55% off, guys. It's insane. It's not going to last long.
A120X lithium battery is only $450 or something like that, which is ridiculous value, guys. And now is the best time to buy. All you have to do is add our discount code in the checkout column on the website, SKT. You can also use it on the phone and in store as well. So, don't forget to use the discount code SKT for them extra savings, guys.
They're selling solar blankets, inverters, DC toDC chargers, lithium batteries, solar blankets. I probably already said that. Even fridges now, guys. So, they've got the whole kitten kaboodleoodle. And like I said, now is the best time to buy. Do not miss out.
And uh you're going to get the best savings right now, especially if you use the discount code SKT. Back to the video.
Radio, we just got to site, but we've run into a bit of an issue. So, our site's number 17, and they're going to get rid of this site cuz it's currently a sandune. Have a look at the track.
>> Look at the tires.
>> It's so soft.
>> Look at that. So freaking soft.
>> Radio. We're just going to see if we can pop out of this. And uh just speaking of old mate, no one's been able to get into this site for a while cuz it's like a sandune.
Um see if we can pop up on these max tracks.
Almost had it.
You know what?
Give it a little reversy.
Tires are going to get dropped. I think 15, maybe 10. But yeah, I'm not going to pretend like this is some crazy situation like some people would. It's just hard because this little campsite here, you can't really use brute force.
There's not enough room.
All right, need to dig the tires out.
The key is just to stay calm.
Eight radio.
Woo! I'm so unfit. Oh, this is a classic example of shit happens.
Bit of crawl control. Oh, there we go.
Mint crawl control.
That's a piece of pier. There you go.
I've never to be completely honest with you guys. And this I mean this in the most non-cocky way possible cuz as you can see nothing humbles more than getting bogged to a spot you've been multiple times. But I haven't been bogged enough in this car. Honestly, I think twice I've been bogged and it's been this year both times. I haven't had enough practice trying to get out of boggy situations with this car. Normally I just hit it really hard. And like I said here, it's too intricate. there's not enough room to be able to actually, you know, plow into something and hit it with momentum cuz momentum is key. So, I just threw it in crawl control then. And to be completely honest, that worked an absolute treat. I probably would have got out of the bog straight away if I had done that from the start cuz it like sends drive to each wheel. So, it acts like almost a semi- diff lock. Um, so yeah, just learned something new about me vehicle. So, that's pretty cool. I'm stoked with that. Silver lining. If I never got bogged, I never would have learned that little trick there. Use crawl control on your max tracks. Works really, really well. So anyway, now the hard part is reversing this trailer into the spot. But I reckon now I'm running 10 lb pretty much all round. So I should be okay hopefully. I'm going to hook it hard your way >> and then try straighten it. Just move out of the way a little bit.
This is going to be very, very difficult.
Like I said, I can't go real hard cuz there's poles next to me on this side.
If I hit one of those, that's like a serious issue. So, see if I can get a bit of speed this time.
Keep it pretty straight. No, that didn't work.
Light.
Ah, lost it. I'm going about 20 I reckon in reverse in a narrow little track.
I need to turn earlier. You've really got to commit, eh? Like once once the trailer starts turning, you got to sort of just hold it there almost. I'll get it this time. I got the hang of it now.
I reckon that's where it's staying. All right, that's where it's staying. It's not ideal, but it's in the sight. After that little debacle, we officially made it to the Ningaloo. And after spending 4 months in Croc Country, it was time to enjoy the ocean and have a lizard-free swim.
Radia, we've unhooked and we've got to jump in that drink. We've been up in croc country too long and uh today the wind is just dropping off a little bit, but we need to explain there's a few hidden risks now with the Ningaloo. It's changed a fair bit and we've just learned why and what's happening here, but it can potentially destroy your vehicle, which I'll talk about in a little bit, but also something else about traveling this season in the Ningloo. We've got to tell you about as well. And it's pretty obvious. You probably can hear it right now in the speakers. But anyway, let's punch out the back here. see what marine life we can uh take some videos of. Hopefully not see any men in gray suits.
>> I close my eyes away.
So it's just a light breeze.
Don't get me wrong, having a boat going around Australia is super handy. But with the wind being this strong, it was impossible to get it off the roof. So, we're going to prove that you do not need a boat on the Ningaloo to go for some unbelievable snorkels. And this is just straight out in front of camp.
>> Got to swim out. What the hell is this?
Woohoo!
>> We're back, baby. Woo!
>> Scuba Steve. It's >> freezing. Let's go.
Right. Getting bogged is a little bit embarrassing, but we made it out. And if I had have pushed all the buttons that I should have pushed, we probably probably would have got out quicker. But we got out in the end and that's all that matters. There's a few things we got to discuss because one of them is this car uh this site here uh at South of Freud is going to be disappearing very soon.
And you're probably wondering why that is and it's because of the sand drift.
It's been windy here. Oh, it's been probably one of the windiest seasons we've uh been told by a lot of caretakers around here. And you can just see how much sand has been moving. like it has been howling every day and there are parts well there are years in WA where that happens up here there's just no good days so essentially all the videos we've shown you of Ningaloo all the videos you would have seen of Ningaloo a lot of the time people showcase it on the best bloody days no wind glass outs like I said it's enough wind for there to be so much sand drifting and and and floating around that they're actually shutting sights and that's why everyone seems to be getting bogged but apart from the wind u it's still a beautiful place. Like we love the Ningloo. It's still one of our favorite places. But it's good to uh control the expectations because sometimes uh parts of the year that are like this and it might be windy for 3 months straight and you might not get one good day. But the next uh issue that's been happening is something that is very real. And I was a skeptic. I thought, you know, that's bullshit. But we rocked up and everyone's got their bonnets up. Like everyone's got the bonnet up. And I asked the caretaker, I said, "Why is everyone at the bonnets up?" So, right now there's a rat infestation here and >> mice.
>> Well, they're mice. Yeah. And they're actually native mice. They're little jumping mice. Um, so they're like a native little They're like mini kangaroos, but they're like they look like a rat pretty much. Anyway, they're freaking everywhere. And because there's so many of those around, there's snakes freaking everywhere and lizards and all sorts of reptiles trying to eat them.
And they're all, you know, brown snakes and the ones you don't want to get bitten. No pythons around here. They're all venomous as hell. But anyway, I thought bullshit. You know, how bad can the mice be? But I took everyone's word, popped the bonnet this morning. We jumped in. Well, today we jumped in the car and there was already a mouse in the car.
And I don't know how we got in because we have all the doors shut, everything shut, the bonnets's up. And the reason you have the bonnet up is cuz it's more exposed to the wind and from the sun and stuff. Like they like to nest in little dark areas. So if you have your bonnet shut be a lot more appealing to them. So that's what I've done. So later on I realized that they were getting through the bonnet into the side panels and then into the car. So you have two choices.
Shut the bonnet and avoid getting them in the cab, but risk them nesting and chewing through your electrics in the bonnet bay, possibly resulting in a writtenoff vehicle or option two, leaving your bonnet open so they don't nest in there and potentially getting them in your car and having slightly less risk of them writing off your vehicle. But if you come in here, make sure you bring plenty of rat traps. Uh, bring peppermint oil. I've been told that if you have peppermint oil with a bit of water, you spray that all around your bonnet, the rats won't nest in there. And the issue is that they get in there and they eat all your electrics.
And it's probably the quickest way you can write your vehicle off. Um, and that has happened here this season. People have written off their vehicles, we've been told, from these rats chewing their electrics in their engine, and the insurance company doesn't even know where to start with fixing it because you can't see what's going through the body panels and stuff. So, it's pretty scary. So, now here's where things get interesting and rather disturbing. I did a little bit of research, a bit of digging of my own, and I actually found out that my comprehensive car insurance doesn't actually cover me for any sort of rodent or Vernon damage, them nesting and eating your electrics, which I wasn't uh informed about. I had no idea, and that's why I'm sure you guys want to know about that as well. For us, we can't uh afford to replace our pride and joy out of our own pocket, and that is the whole reason we get insurance in the first place. So, I was a little bit worried after I found this out. And it's information that I think you guys should know as well.
>> Your setup's tires is arguably one of the most important things on your vehicle and your setup. It gets you and your family safely to your next destination. Now, we've been running the IC TPMS fulltime for the last 3 years.
It is the best tire pressure monitoring system on the market. To install the IC TPMS, simply screw on each sensor to each tire and it will wirelessly communicate to the incab display. The set points for the alarms are automatically calibrated based on what pressures you screw these sensors to your tires on. That means when you drop your tires to go off-road, you are still protected. The reason this product is essential is it will literally alert you if your tires are getting too hot. But it's not only temperatures, it's also pressures. So, if you have a slow leak, a fast leak, this product right here is going to alert you to stop, pull off the road before you have an accident before you actually pop your tire or lose pressure altogether, which could actually save you and your family from having an accident. I check TPMS are doing an insane deal for our audience only. So, for a limited time, the next 2 weeks or while stocks last, if you buy any tire pressure monitoring system on the check website using the discount code SKT, you're going to get free shipping plus a free set of deflators.
All you have to do is add the I check TPMS that you guys want to purchase plus the deflators into your cart and then apply the SKT discount code. Right.
Here's a Kaka Ningaloo sunset. Check that out. The beers are absolutely sliding down the gullet like they are disappearing before my eyes. I um just cracked one and before I knew it, it was gone. So, they're flowing real nice. The sun is setting and yeah, we just feel so good to be back in this joint. We love this place. This is one of our favorites. This time it's not going to be as good as previous times just cuz we have a small time frame. You really have to spend a long time here to get good weather windows for sure. For the few days that we are here, it is going to be blowing its tits off. But that's okay.
That is traveling. Not everything goes to plan. And the trips we've had here in the past, we have scored some pretty good weather in between the windy days.
So, so like I said, I didn't believe the rats were like a proper thing here. But like I said, there's literally tracks everywhere. And because it's so windy, everything like I'll walk on this soft sand, put my footprints in it, 10 minutes, 20 minutes later, because it's so windy, all my footprints have swept and and all new sands like fallen into footprint. So, it gives it this like blank canvas. And then when the little rats, the little mice, whatever the hell they are, jump around and and and search around for whatever they're doing, you can see the sheer number of rats that have just been around your van all night. Like, when you wake up in the morning, it's amazing.
Like it's incredible. Plus, you can see where the snakes have been following the rats, which is pretty cool. A bit spooky. Like Sarah hates snakes, but yeah, that's why we're leaving the bonnet like that. And like I said, it's because if you have it shut with these rats, they like to nestle up and and hide from the the predators, the jugites and the browns and whatever. So, leaving it up, it's exposing it to the elements, and that way it's less likely. It's not foolproof, but it's a good way to keep them out without, you know, the other thing is dousing your whole engine bay in WD40, but that's not good for your hoses half the time. But peppermint spray apparently is the go. And of course, we don't have any of that, but that's okay. Anyway, check this out. How good does that look? Let's have a couple beers. Enjoy this sunset. This is traveling Australia.
Someone called Baza.
I wonder where you are.
I wonder you vlogging.
>> Sarah's prepping dinner. So, I'm not going to lie to you guys. It sounds like I'm being dramatic, but I'm not scared of the rats. cuz I'm just scared of the rats destroying my gear. And I went to bed with it playing on my mind. I didn't have the best sleep. And in the morning, we woke up to the issue getting even worse. Ah, I actually think we're going to get out of here. The rats are just so bad. It's just a fullon rat infestation here at the moment. And there was so many tracks around the car this morning.
So, I'm just running the car a bit to make sure there's none in the engine bay cuz that's my main concern is frying my car. Um, yeah, it's just disgusting.
Yeah, like these they're just getting in somehow all eating my all my receipts.
Everyone's having the same issue too.
Like the guy with the brand new Everest.
I had someone say they got a few in their three brand new 300 series. Um even like they've nibbled on me floor mats which are just like a a rubber thing. So yeah, they're not just eating food, they're eating literally everything. Scary to think one of these rats could just chew through a wire in my ECU or my behind my OB2 plug or something and everything could flash up with codes, put me into limp mode.
It's definitely not the place you want to be in limp mode. So, we're going to get out of here. Never seen anything like it. We've been coming up here for most of me life and I've never seen it like this. This is proper. So, I found one. There's one in the gas bottle compartment cuz it has to be perforated on a caravan. I'll show you what these look like.
We're getting we're getting chased out of camp right now. Like literally chased out of camp.
>> And they're freaking in the car, too.
>> Yeah.
>> And we can't find it.
>> So, we've got a stowway in the car.
>> And it just ran across the little so it come up. They must be getting through the engine bay somehow into the cab because it come up like I don't know behind the dash somehow and ran across the freaking and it's a 200 series so they're really well sound deton like there's not much noise that actually gets in the cab. It's really well sealed in your car eating your musli bars everywhere and then running >> the measly bars >> running across your bloody thing here like bloody Stewart little in the freaking car. It's just gross. It's like there's rat shit everywhere >> and it's our house like so. Well, I don't know. Car's a car. It's expensive for anyone, but yeah, we live in it.
It's our home. So, we don't really want to break it.
>> It's just gross. It's just all around gross. So, >> can't wait to get home and just empty this whole thing out and clean it.
>> Yeah, the car coming in.
>> And the thing is, everyone will be like, "Oh, well, you shouldn't have musli bars in your car." Well, guess what? They're not even eating the musli bars, eating receipts. Like our freaking bookkeeper is gonna have a hard time with a halfeaten rat receipt. You know what I mean? So >> lucky I'm on to it.
>> Anyway, like it's just gross. Like it's Yeah.
>> Oh, it's probably going hidden now.
>> I don't like this at all.
>> What if it's hidden under the seat or something?
>> Probably is.
All right, >> we're going to try and blow them out.
>> Surely we'll pump the music, too.
>> Hopefully they hate this music.
