Mixed sunshine, rain into June

[00:00:00]We're just talking about, you know, rubbing it in if you have the actual like lotion like or if a spray-on sunscreen. Either way, you just want to make sure it's on and covering every single spot. A lot of people forget their lips, too. I mean, you can get sun- sunburn on the lips.

[00:00:11]I started doing that just because I have some dark spots that the uh dermatologist has been looking at.

[00:00:16]>> Yeah, I have melasma on my upper lip, too. So, that's why I use like Neutrogena 70 on my face. But, I really never thought about whether or not if it's spray if I needed to rub it in.

[00:00:23]>> good question. We should verify that next. I was going to say, "Meg, where are you?" Well, she's not here today, but she'll be back tomorrow. [snorts] Yeah. Um let's talk about the forecast the next few days because of the fact that we are going to see mixed in sunshine with clouds, kind of that typical summer pattern. You do want to make sure you have SPF. I try to make sure it's in uh my makeup or my moisturizer, but again, I suggest this anytime of year. Uh we were talking about this last week, Colleen, you weren't here, but um Nick was saying that he never uses SPF, and I was very concerned for his skin, but a different story for a different day. Uh so, hopefully you are using SPF. We're looking at isolated to scattered showers and thunderstorms for the next few hours. Again, sunshine still mixing in, but we're on the backside of uh solar noon, so not as high sun angle, means not as much impact from the sun as of right now, but you can still see some of the sun peaking through the clouds. That happened after a pretty notable wet start to the day. We did expect to see areas of rain this morning, then that midday break, and then now we're kind of seeing that second wind on the way. So, I don't want you to think that, "Okay, we're good to go. We're getting close to sunset, and things are over." Uh we're essentially just getting started when it comes to at least the overnight stuff.

[00:01:25]Warm and moist air still pushing in here from the south and west toward the northeast. This is a second really bulk of rain that we see as we continue to see that warm moist air now that our front is to the north. That's the same front we were tracking over the weekend that kept us wedged in. Uh today, not so much as we get for we're very warm, getting into the low 80s, and the dew point is off the charts. It's true air you can wear, and this will continue for the next few days. So, that's why there storms are moving southwest toward the north and east in general because of that push there of the warmth and moisture. But, because of these slow-moving storms, I do want folks to be very aware of a risk for some isolated flash flooding into the overnight hours. Most flash flood guidance in North and South Carolina is between 2 to 3 inches an hour. That essentially means if your rainfall rates are over that, you can see small streams start to increase and that could lead to isolated flash flooding. So, especially at higher elevations, this can be a concern. So, even when you don't see a lot of storms, that is a potential risk as well. Just rain there down in York and Chester County right now. Rain and even a few storms mixed in here in your Pineola. You can see that continuing to push toward north and western uh parts of Caldwell County and then more rain on the way for Burke County. So, as we progress into this evening, again slow moving storms, especially for those northwestern counties up in Ashe, Watauga, and Avery, please watch for some isolated risk for flash flooding.

[00:02:41]Tomorrow morning will start off similar to today, a few spotty storms, a midday break with sunshine returning. We get into the 80s and then here are those pop-up storms again mainly in the afternoon and evening. Almost an exact rinse repeat forecast from what we saw today. Now, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, I do think rain chances are going to trend down just a bit. It will still be very, very humid though, so please watch out for that. Almost every single day over the next week, we can have at least has some potential for rain. So, how much could we accumulate?

[00:03:10]Maybe an additional 1, 1 and 1/2 inches if we're lucky, but remember we still need [music] 15 to get out of the drought. So, this weekend's rain was helpful, but not enough to get us back to normal. Here's your Jerry Hunt Super Center 7-day. You can see those isolated to potential scattered storms every single day over the next week, but we do trend a little bit cooler for that last weekend of May and first few days of June.
