[00:00:00]Why does the healthiest person in a family sometimes become the villain? Let me introduce you to something called homeostasis.

[00:00:08]And if you've ever felt like your family turned on you after you started setting boundaries, this might explain why.

[00:00:15]Homeostasis is the tendency for family systems to protect the emotional equilibrium they've always known, even when that equilibrium isn't healthy.

[00:00:25]Here's what that means. In some families, everyone unconsciously adapts to unhealthy patterns. Maybe it's avoiding conflict, protecting the family image, walking on eggshells, keeping secrets, never confronting certain people, or sacrificing truth to keep the peace. And over time that becomes normal. It becomes the emotional operating system of the family. So when So then what happens when someone starts changing? When they go to therapy, when they start naming unhealthy patterns, when they begin protecting their marriage, when they stop people pleasing, when they finally say something here isn't healthy. The family system often feels threatened. Not always because people are bad, but because systems are wired to restore familiarity. And this is the painful part. The person naming the problem often becomes treated like the problem.

[00:01:21]Suddenly they're divisive, selfish, deceived, too sensitive, and breaking up the family. So why is this? Because healthy change often disrupts unhealthy peace. And for some families, that disruption feels dangerous. And I want you to hear me real closely here. This does not mean every family is toxic. It does not mean arangement is always the answer. And it doesn't mean the person setting boundaries is always right. But understanding homeostasis can help you stop asking why is everyone reacting so strongly? And instead ask what system is trying to preserve itself here? And sometimes that question changes everything. And that's my thought for the day.
