Tiny House Build (Episode 36) We're Ready For Spray Foam Insulation.Added:
Listen to the birds.
It's like they're right on my shoulder.
Oh, welcome back. Oh, and I had to go out and buy the cheapest table saw I could find.
I got to cut I got to rip the board that fits up in here.
I got like six boards I got to rip.
And then also I got to cut around these post.
I have a jigsaw for that, but I needed to uh get a table saw that ripped the board down.
I'm back again.
Last week there was a couple of days that I was just in a horrible, horrible mood.
and uh everything was going wrong.
I deleted almost all the footage because it just just wasn't me, you know.
I was just in a horrible mood. But anyways, tell you what I got done. I have some video that I saved that I'll share, but let me show you what I been working on.
So, I got the ceiling finally done.
I got the fans up.
Got that light fixture up.
And I'm not sure if this ceiling just put me in this god awful mood, but I think I'm not sure if you guys know or the ceiling was half done from here over right before the fan over and it was nothing but a struggle.
I'm not sure, you know, from here over these boards were stained, but they were sitting inside the house and it's like an oven in there.
And I could not get those boards together.
The groove would not fit in the tongue.
It was like the wood was swollen or something.
My arms are killing me trying to maneuver that stuff.
Anyways, yeah, that was I don't know if that put me in a really bad mood, but I put another camera up there and another camera down there. Um, yeah, I'm not sure because I fought with it for three days and I finally finished it and feeling much better.
The grass is coming in, but we do have this like brown. It's not burnt grass, but it's it has like a weird texture to our mildew, maybe. I don't know.
We did throw another 50 lb bag of that contractor's mix on it cuz there's a couple bare spots.
I'm going to jinx myself, but this stuff is pretty easy to grow.
We started here because it was such a muddy mess. I'm hoping that it's going to help out.
But we still got around the whole house to do down the side of the driveway, out front of the where the property meets the road, all over here.
But they still got to fix this issue over here. We're still having a water issue.
You can kind of see where it's coming down this hill and it's just going this way and it's going around the back of the house.
But there's no point of seeding it if you want to be digging it up. Every morning when I come out here, especially days that I record, I'm always pacing the first half hour.
You guys end up walking with me up and down the porch, in the house, out of the house.
So, the inspector's coming back today.
Hopefully everything goes smooth and then the uh spray foam guy says just give us the heads up when the inspection's fully complete and we'll get there by the end of this week. So hopefully if the inspector comes early enough today, we'll be able to get the spray foam people on the schedule.
Everything got pushed back because of the the plumbing failure.
Um, so there's things I got to do most importantly is to get uh I guess this blocking this blocking here is for a floating shelf. Rose wants to add another floating shelf to the top of this.
And This one has to get moved down. She doesn't want it higher.
And I think I need to add another one there. So, she has two floating shelves over here.
Oh, no. She's not doing two floating shelves over here. That stuff can stay.
Or I can take it out. She's doing two here.
So, and then I got to get blocking in for the the vent hood for the gas range.
And then I got to figure out how I'm going to vent it.
I got to come up out there, go across the ceiling.
I like to be above the ceiling, but I ain't going to be able to get it in there.
Over here would work great.
Maybe I can do that. Maybe I can go through there. Come down here and then drop down and then go in.
All right, I guess we can got to get going. Oh, my punch list keeps on getting longer and longer. This doesn't have to be done right now because it won't affect the spray foam people. But I decided I wanted to put an attic access. There's not much of an attic up there, but I think it'd be nice to have access up there to keep a lot, you know, maybe look at the roof for see if there's any leaks or anything. And then also, uh, if I ever need to run a wire, my electrician put a future pipe here that's just open.
So, if you have to fish a wire down into the panel, at least we would have access.
And I'm just not sure where I should put it.
Rose is thinking, well, here in the living room, I mean, and here in the bedroom.
So, I want to build a two foot by two foot square opening and then lay, you know, maybe a a 24 in piece of plywood down the middle.
So, that definitely has to be done before drywall.
I don't think it needs to matter for the spray foam, guys. And then I'm going to build a little box here, a little box here that the drywall guys can just dry around drywall around and leave it open.
And I'm going to send a pipe down this way, tie into the top of that box, and then run all my camera cables down that pipe.
And then I'll have like a little square that I'll finish off with. And I'll finish it off with uh some pine or something and just have all the wires coming out of that.
So that has to be done before drywall, too.
I got a list that's going a mile long.
And then also I gotta build my crawl space door because the encapsulation encapsulation. I don't know how you pronounce it, but uh they're going to be coming over to finish off the crawl space. And I like to have a door on there once they finished. All right. I suppose I'll get at it today. All right.
Come along.
>> Hey, babe. How's it going?
>> It's going.
>> What happened this morning? Her We got our inspection.
>> Thumbs up.
>> Thumbs up.
>> Yay.
>> I got to get in trouble.
>> Okay.
I'm sitting here like I can taste being in this house when everything's done. It We're so I feel like we're so close but still far away. But yeah.
So Gary's going to kind of changed my mind a little bit. I was just going to have one shelving here all the way over. I don't want this all the way over. We have a door here.
So, he's going to do another one up here. And I think >> Why am I >> That will be better. Huh?
>> Why am I doing another one?
>> Cuz I changed my mind. I said that.
And then we're going to come over here and we're going to do the same thing with two shelves here.
no shelf here because we have the the stove and the hood and the fridge and I think I'm just maybe a picture or something here to kind of So, we'll see.
Things change all the time. As you can see, after you start looking at things, that's what happens.
You're always changing your mind.
>> I know. I don't know.
Just like we changed the mind about our bathroom and closet, which it see. And it's a good thing having a little time to be able to >> Yeah.
>> look at things. We don't we don't want to worry about changing things when things are said and done.
And I hope that's not the case cuz it is what it is after all this.
We really want to do what is it? Shiplap up on the ceiling. What do you call it?
>> Shiplap.
>> Shiplap.
But now after doing the whole ceiling and the on the porch, all that staining and oh my god, that was just so much work. People make it look like it's so easy. But um we might just go with regular drywall for now and then decide later or But next week might be something different.
>> Yeah, we'll always be remodeling.
Yeah, but it would look so nice.
I don't know.
Cut.
Perfect.
>> Perfect.
>> I won't know until I put it up, >> right?
I probably just jinxed you.
>> Perfect. It will work.
Good morning, Angel. Where do you fur go? Huh?
Nope. Down.
Down. There we go. Up.
>> Right on there.
>> Down just slightly.
Or not.
You'll >> be fine.
>> Okay.
So now all my blocking is up over here for my open shelving or whatever you want to call it.
Beautiful.
This might not work.
It will.
There we go.
Proud.
having I had a hard time.
Okay, this is hot.
>> I was going to I knew you were going to say that.
Those things are hot.
You want me to move that wire?
It's >> fine.
>> I mean, it is just blocking.
>> It is. You don't know where it's going anyway. It's just blocking.
>> We have no clue where it's going.
Not crooked anymore.
Looks great.
Now, what's this project?
What is this project?
>> This is for the uh vent.
>> Yay.
What's another big job?
>> Well, the blocking's all up. I taped on the window to kind of give us an idea once everything is um blocked in. So, now we're on to the next project.
Not the only drone. Well, not the only drone. I don't want drone.
How am I supposed to see that?
Oopsie.
You got it. Heat.
Heat.
See, it's coming over.
Heat. Heat.
Heat up here.
came through.
>> Nice.
>> Kind of high for me to be videoing.
I'm like this trying to video.
Oh god, that's low, huh?
>> I don't know. Oh yeah. I didn't realize how low it was.
What is that?
She doesn't like that.
We have curious George over here.
>> She wants to tell you something. I don't know what it is.
>> Wants to show you something outside.
>> She wants to move stuff so she can get a hold of something.
You guys should be as interested as I am.
How am I going to get this in there?
>> Who is it?
>> Which way is it got to go?
I'm going to fit Well, that's the hole. We had to uh Cut a little bit more so it goes on flat outside hood.
We'll see.
Look at that.
>> That looks great.
What' you think?
>> Great job, M. I knew you could do it.
>> You left some fingerprints up there, though.
>> I think that's the last thing on being on a tall ladder, I think.
No, inside.
>> Oh, yeah. The ceiling.
>> Yeah, but at least we're inside.
>> I think >> I don't think the ceiling the kitchen living room ceiling.
>> Yeah, >> that is high.
>> But you hear that thing?
>> Yeah, it's over here.
I hear it. I don't know what that means.
Uh, but I mean like outside high on uneven ground.
>> Yeah. Yeah.
>> In there. It's nice and flat, >> right?
We feel like if we're going to fall, we may fall on a wall instead of on stone.
>> Yeah. Uh, did you let everybody know that the spray foam guides are coming tomorrow?
>> I did not.
So, this is our job to do today to get that out of the way. We got to clean out the house. Get everything out of there so they can come in and spray foam tomorrow.
>> Come over this way.
Take a look at the wall and the wood and the ceiling over here.
>> Matt, let me do this.
>> Don't blow it up.
>> No, I just blew it down.
>> Come this way. Stay in there. Look at the ceiling in the >> Yeah, >> that look pretty.
>> I know. It is pretty. It is.
>> Let me see this from here.
>> So, it looks great in here, too, babe.
Yeah.
>> Yeah.
>> Now, you got to shut it.
>> How do you shut it?
>> Got to go back outside and shut it.
>> No, there's a screen on me. I can't. I think the wind will blow it close.
>> All right.
>> So, >> I want to put blue tape over this.
>> Mhm.
>> So, they don't spray foam in it.
>> Oh, I see. I got the tape over there.
Well, they would really kind of be idiots if they did, but >> no, they just go, >> right?
>> Yeah. So, we need to take that up.
>> Okay.
Looks great.
You know what this means, babe?
>> What does it mean?
>> Means we have tomorrow off.
>> I never think we have a day off, but we can't come in here for 24 hours.
>> Can't come in here for 24 hours. I mean, we got plenty of stuff to do outside.
>> Yes, we can do some clean up.
>> At least we can get the truck loaded up.
>> Yep.
can always build the crawl space door.
>> Yeah.
>> Yeah. I'm not >> Well, let's just see what tomorrow.
Let's see what >> We literally have all that shavings to pull out of the basement.
I was just going to take a break and break them towards the door.
>> Mhm. And then what were you going to do with them?
>> Shove it outside for now.
>> Okay. We'll see how that goes. We got to get that cleared out cuz I'm going to talk to that guy tomorrow about >> Yeah.
>> encapsulating that.
>> Yeah.
>> I think that's ready to go.
>> I hope so.
>> I don't think there's anything. I mean, I got to cut that grounding rod off down there that used to be for the pole.
>> Yep.
>> We got to clean up underneath there.
There's a bunch of scrap garbage and stuff.
>> But I think as in for here, I don't think of anything else we can do.
>> We're all set for the TV over there.
That's not going to be spray foam.
>> Oh, that's right.
>> Only the exterior.
>> Exterior. That's where I got confused.
>> So, tomorrow, not Wednesday, but Thursday, I can come in and put our access door in.
>> Yeah.
>> Put our pipe down for that.
Get our cords up there. Put some P. We can go get some plywood tomorrow.
>> And some Chick-fil-A for lunch.
>> Chick-fil-A for lunch.
>> Cuz we've been doing all good all week.
>> But I'll go through my list. You didn't understand what I just >> But we can I can go through my punch list on my phone.
>> Mhm.
>> Before tomorrow.
>> Yeah.
>> To make sure I get Well, right now.
>> Yeah.
>> To make sure I got all my punch list done for here for the spray foam.
>> Yeah.
>> I got to block up that hole.
>> Are you going to tape it or what are you going to do with that?
>> I was going to have you just tape it.
>> Okay.
>> I don't know if we can do that.
>> I don't know. We're going to have to ask them about that. Maybe they have certain things they'll put in there to go around it. I don't know.
>> All new to us.
But we're cleaning out the house, getting ready for tomorrow. All I have left is this basically. There's Gary.
There's a couple things in the >> shower. I'm not sure if we want to just leave it in there.
>> I got to put it on.
>> Really? Okay.
And then you had something in the hallway. It run. Yeah. I got to get that.
>> And then what are you going to do with all these wires?
>> Hang up on the wall. We're going to drop a screw over here.
>> Oh, that's right. Cuz I'm not doing the interior walls.
>> Yeah. I was going to drive a screw in here.
>> Yeah.
>> And see if I can hang them all over here away from that wall.
>> Okay. Don't make a mess of them.
So, we got to I got to clean this out.
>> They go around and they plastic all the windows. all the outlets.
>> Yeah. Well, that makes sense. So, maybe they will plastic that.
>> Oh, they might.
>> Yeah.
>> Well, I don't know. I don't know if Yeah, I guess. Yeah, you're right.
>> Yeah, that's probably what they're going to do.
>> Yeah, >> even though I just did that one out there, but I did the blue tape.
>> No, no, no. Yeah. No, that one I think you're fine. This one here. I I'm not sure what to do with that.
That's in and out, too.
>> So, what do you have?
>> I think I don't think you need the vacuum or anything.
>> I'm not going to vacuum cuz they're just coming in and out. And um >> they make a humongous mess.
>> Yeah. I'm not vacuuming until after >> the drywall.
>> Exactly. Why vacuum it? It takes me a long time to vacuum this little house.
>> Well, with that thing.
>> Well, that too. And it's not like you're doing a quick back and going around furniture if you had to. But so is this job done?
>> Yeah, I think that job. Yeah, I got the bottom mount where the hood's going and then the upper part. I got that figured out.
>> Mhm.
>> Your floating shelves are done.
>> Yeah, those are done.
>> So I think I think we're good to go there.
What we >> you got to uh uh Thursday or Friday. We got to spray foam around the windows.
>> Oh, we don't we should we do them before they come?
>> No, >> after.
>> Yeah.
>> You think they would spray foam that?
>> No. Could they use a big gun and small stuff? That gap and stuff.
>> Oh, yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Okay.
>> We just got to spray foam around the doors, the windows. This is all before drywall.
>> Yeah. Okay. I can ask them if they do that, but I'm almost 100% positive they don't.
>> Yeah, >> we just got to apply a couple cans of spray foam and >> let it harden up until we get it saw it all off.
>> Yeah, I seen that.
>> All right. Did they say what time they're coming? Tomorrow.
>> They get to the shop at 7:30. They're about an hour and a half away.
>> Wow.
>> She said between 9 and 10.
>> Okay. It just gives me an idea with Angel. Make sure she's all set going outside because they're going to be here for a few hours.
>> I bet you'd be here an hour.
>> No, not if they have to >> this tiny home.
>> Not going to be here an hour. I'm saying about 3 hours.
>> Okay.
>> All right. Pick up your mess.
>> You're a mess.
>> I'm not done yet.
>> I would. I thought you said you were done.
>> All right.
>> All right. One last uh lookies lookies.
Make sure uh we got everything covered here, everything done because this spray foam insulation is going to be coming tomorrow, which we already said three times, I guess.
But we got it all cleaned out.
Everything's looking good.
All right.
Tomorrow's an exciting day.
All right.
Rose is making dinner and I'm calling it quits.
See you on the next one. Peace.
