Virginia's new gun control laws, which ban common semi-automatic rifles, magazines over 15 rounds, and firearms with features like threaded barrels and adjustable stocks, are being challenged in court by firearms journalist John Crump, who argues these laws criminalize commonly owned firearms protected under the Second Amendment's 'common use' standard established in Bruen v. United States, potentially setting a precedent for nationwide challenges to 'assault weapon' bans.

Virginia’s Gun Ban Is Already In TroubleAdded:
All right, so today's video we're going to be talking about what's going on in Virginia. Yes, my voice is absolutely trash. I got one of those summer colds and man, they're the worst.
[clears throat] But, I should be able to jack up the audio so it doesn't sound like I'm whispering too much, but my voice is completely shot. So, what's going on with Virginia? What's going on with the lawsuit? But first, don't forget to shop at only tactical fans at shopfy.com. I did also get my favorite targets in there.
This is what I like to shoot at at the range because it's a realistic size and it gives you realistic expectations of what you should be doing with your firearm. Plus, it's got a little target for dialing in your zero. And if you miss a little bit here, there's still plenty of paper we can track your shot and figure out why. When I started shooting at these, it totally changed my outlook on how well my rifle is because yeah, it's cool to shoot the match heads off at 300 yards, but that's not really realistic. This gives you a realistic expectation of how much you need to improve or if you even need to improve.
So, let's get into it. To the digital board of knowledge. So, I respect the hell out of this because actually it's a fellow YouTuber that's taking up the lawsuit against Virginia.
Most people online, yeah, they share memes, they scream about how this is ridiculous, somebody needs to do something, but not a lot of people do.
John Crump actually did.
>> [clears throat] >> So, what's this all about? Virginia shifted from actually a pretty friendly gun-free state to something more like California.
They're targeting people with the most pop- popular rifle in America.
If you're not familiar, this is Virginia right here.
Yeah, pretty good state. The problem is this little yellow patch right there, which is what Washington, D.C.
Unfortunately, because of that little patch, it completely corrupts this whole entire state and Virginia flipped blue.
They took over the house, the senate, and the governor's office, and they're just pushing through ridiculous laws that have no basis in reality. One of them is obviously this assault weapons banned.
So, Governor Northam I don't I don't even care what her name is.
Signed into law the assault rifle ban takes effect on July 1st this year.
Banned standard capacity magazines, common semi-automatic rifles. It's ridiculous. Threaded barrels, adjustable stocks, other common features that are on like literally pretty much every common rifle today.
Covers pistols, shotguns, magazines over 15 rounds.
So, this frames the Now, this is supposed to say weapons, but the AI is [ __ ] I had it remake this slide like five times and whatever reason it will not spell that word right. So, we're just This is actually means weapons. Weapons used by criminals. And it doesn't. Everybody knows that the actual rifles like AR-15s and that have such a low percentage that actually get used in the crimes.
Without looking at the stats off the top of my head, I think it's like 3%. So, it's not It's a crazy outlier. But yet, they're going after them.
In reality, it bans everyday common use firearms and that's ridiculous.
Real consequences we're looking at criminal confiscation issues, transferring requirements, limits on features, purchases, turning legal gun over gun owners into possessing possession that will make them ultimately criminals. It's has nothing to do with crime. There's nothing in any of this law that has any chance at stopping any crime. All this law does is create crime. For whatever reason they want to start mass producing criminals in Virginia. Obviously, it's because of Washington D.C. And the easiest way to get laws passed is on the back of a tragedy. So, what they're doing is they're just mass producing criminals so they can point later and be like "The crime in this state is out of control, so we're going to pass this law." Which will also will do nothing about the crime, but it just helps manufacture more criminals. For example, the ATF goes after 922G like almost exclusively. That's like 80% of what they do on a yearly basis.
922G is just simple possession of a firearm. There's been no crimes committed. There's no other crime attached to it. Simply, the recipient had a firearm and that is it.
That manufactures work for them. Now they can justify budgets. Now they can justify expansion. Now they can justify a a bunch of other stuff.
That's essentially what they're trying to do here.
The problem is this is a common use rifle. Now, it'll probably go up to the Supreme Court shortly, I hope, and by name the AR-15 will be protected.
That should have already happened years ago. So, yes, I do believe it's going to happen soon, but the fact is it should have happened years ago, so I'm not holding my breath.
The most common firearm in America and they're going to ban it?
Trying to say that it's rare or exotic, and it's not rare or exotic at all. This is common use, standard.
Heller protections, standard. Bruen protections, so it's it's pretty insane.
Anyways, John Crump stand stood up. He's the plaintiff. Uh he's doing this lawsuit because he has good grounds.
Puts his own name on there on the lawsuit. That's pretty awesome.
Easy to rant, hard to actually do stuff.
So, what grounds does he actually have?
His lawsuit works on highly that he's a firearms journalist, so he needs firearms to come in. He also works on YouTube, so it collapses uh businesses cuz you need solid ground as a plaintiff. How does this affect you? The courts actually have to look at that before they get into the actual lawsuit.
I he's sending guns for reviews, magazines for reviews. He wants to acquire AR-15s for self-defense, training, and journalism.
This is John Crump right here.
That's what he looks like.
Now, a lot of people envision him as more of like this timid kitten. I think that is the wrong image. Uh he's more like a autistic velociraptor doing second-amendment work on the computer day in and day out.
He actually does quite a bit. It It's pretty impressive like all the stuff he gets done for us. Here's his channel, uh John Crump News. If you're not subscribed there, I strongly recommend getting subscribed.
Really quality channel.
He gets a lot of the news out there for us.
Does a lot of the back behind the scenes stuff. And now he's actually obviously doing that Virginia lawsuit. Anyways, appreciate you guys watching my video. I apologize for my voice.
