America Almost Annexed This Country Inside Canada

The provisional government of Assiniboia sitting right above Minnesota on the US border. 500 warriors seized the only fort. They literally turned the Canadian governor back at the American boundary line. American expansionists ran a newspaper inside that territory pushing annexation. A petition landed on President Grant's desk make us American.
