[00:00:00][music] >> Starting off with the big breaking news coming in from down south in Karnataka, the government has allowed hijab, rudraksh, janeyu, the sacred thread, and other limited religious symbols in schools. This is the Congress government in Karnataka which has taken this decision by officially withdrawing its Feb [music] 5, 2022 uniform order and has issued fresh guidelines allowing students [music] to wear limited traditional and faith-based symbols along with prescribed uniforms in schools and colleges across the state.

[00:00:42]Under this new order issued on May 13th, all government-aided and private educational institutions will continue enforcing prescribed [music] uniforms.

[00:00:51]However, students will now be permitted to wear limited traditional and customary symbols such as turban, [music] janeyu, which is the sacred thread, hijab, and other religious symbols will also be allowed.

[00:01:04]But BJP has come out all guns blazing against the Congress government claiming that this is another attempt by the Congress sarkara in Karnataka which is trying to divert the attention of the people from the fact that they were against the Hindu religious symbols in schools and has demanded that the Karnataka government should also allow saffron [music] shawls in schools.

[00:02:53]Well, this is going to definitely, you know, be an interesting development considering the fact that, you know, right the entire hijab row in Karnataka had blown up quite a bit a few years ago. The matter, of course, also had reached the Supreme Court of India. And, you know, there there was a status quo that was ordered, which meant that, you know, the schools and uniforms that is prescribed in schools will not include any additional items, especially religious in nature. Now, this is an amended order or rather a fresh order that has been issued, which allows for, you know, wearing of hijab. It also allows for wearing of a turban, pheta, janivara, and rudraksha, and other limited traditional or religious items.

[00:03:36]Now, what is also very crucial to note here is the fact that last year there were several instances of students who were wearing the janivara.

[00:03:46]They were stopped from entering the premises. All they were asked to remove it. That became a controversy as well.

[00:03:52]And we've, of course known how big a controversy the entire hijab row was.

[00:03:55]Now, main pro-Hindu organizations and then the BJP combined are saying if the hijab is allowed, which is not considered as an essential religious item as per Islam is what the BJP says.

[00:04:06]They say that even chapals also should be allowed. So, we really have to see whether this will lead to a fresh standoff in the state of Karnataka.
