In criminal investigations involving multiple victims, law enforcement agencies coordinate across jurisdictions to gather evidence, identify suspects, and build cases for prosecution. The legal process involves formal charges, court proceedings, and holding suspects without bail pending trial. Prosecutors must prove the criminal act beyond reasonable doubt, though motive is not a required element for conviction. Community impact extends beyond immediate victims to affect local businesses and neighborhoods.

Good evening. We begin with new developments in a deadly and tragic chain of events stretching from Buffalo to Cheektowaga that left four people dead on Monday. Among the victims, two little boys. Just a heartbreaking loss that has shocked the community as investigators work to unravel what happened. We do know this began in the city's Black Rock neighborhood where a 43-year-old man was shot and killed on Grant Street around 2:30. Roughly 1 hour later and about 10 miles away, a 26-year-old woman and two young boys ages four and three were found dead inside a home on Allen Drive in Cheektowaga. Now, 29-year-old Sale Mohammed is facing multiple charges including first-degree murder. 7 News senior reporter Maki Becker live outside the Erie County Holding Center for us tonight. She joins us now with the very latest. Maki.
>> Jeff, this is where Sale Mohammed of Cheektowaga is being held right now on multiple murder charges. Now, he's accused of shooting and killing four people here in Buffalo and in Cheektowaga including his whole family.
>> [music] >> The victims are Sale Mohammed's wife and his two young sons at their home in Cheektowaga and then one of the owners of a deli on Grant Street in Buffalo's Black Rock neighborhood. I was in the courtroom as Mohammed, who turned 29 years old Tuesday, faced arraignment in Buffalo City Court on a charge of second-degree murder for the killing of the owner of Aref's Deli. Earlier, I spoke with Ahmed Abdulla, who owns the auto shop across the street from the deli. He says the whole block is devastated.
>> Yesterday was very sad day for us, for all the community, for all people in the Grant Street business owners.
>> He showed us the surveillance video from his garage showing the suspect going into the store and then running out seconds later.
>> He was very good guy. He was very generous. Like that yesterday in the morning we were talking to him. I asked him for his permission to park my car there in the back and then he was like very generous. Even he give me free drink and that always he he does that generous like it sometimes I when my kids comes from the school we go out across the street, you know, buy stuff, chips and drinks and he always when he knows my kids and he give them free. He don't charge anything for it.
>> Erie County District Attorney Michael Cain described the horrifying chain of events Monday. Buffalo police first responded to the shooting on Grant Street at about 2:30 p.m. Then Cheektowaga police responded to a call from relatives to check on a family on Ellen Drive.
>> The police found three victims.
The defendant's wife and his two children.
A 26-year-old woman and her two sons, a 4-year-old and a 3-year-old, both little boys.
>> I asked the DA why they believe Mohamed committed these murders.
>> No, there's no there's no As you as you're all aware, you know, motive is not an element we have to prove. Obviously, it's a question that everyone asks. It's a question that we're trying to answer ourselves. At this point, I I wouldn't want to speculate on that.
>> Investigators say they are waiting to make sure all family members of the victims have been notified before releasing the names.
>> And Mohamed is being held here at the holding center without bail. His next court dates are scheduled in Cheektowaga and Buffalo on Friday. Live from downtown Buffalo, Maki Becker, 7 News.
