Monsoon charged thunderstorms are producing flooding rains along Colorado's Front Range
Added:Good afternoon, everybody. Meteorologist Dave Aguilera with you in the First Alert Weather Center. Well, today is a First Alert Weather Day. We have big rains coming into the area. Here is the Mousetrap camera. We've had a large area of thunderstorms with heavy rain coming in from Bailey, Conifer, moving into our southwestern corner of the state here.
Take a look at the radar full and you can see all of that monsoon moisture flowing up into the state into Colorado.
And there are several areas that have flooding going on across Colorado at the moment. And a few of those right here in the Front Range. So, take a look at this baby here. We have Let's pull into the closest one. You can see that whole row of flood advisories and flash flood warnings. So, let's zoom it into that area around Conifer. We actually have a whole line of storms getting ready to move into the South Metro area from Bailey over into Castle Pines, Parker area as well. That flash flood warning includes Bailey, Buffalo Creek, uh right along 285 there where that storm has dumped anywhere from 1 to nearly 3 in of rainfall in a very short period of time through that uh entire area. So, we're talking Pine Junction, Pine Grove, Shafer's Crossing is one of the areas through there. And uh flash flooding is occurring or will soon occur in many of uh those locations as the storm goes through. Flash flood warning till 6:00 p.m. for uh that one there. Then if we extend you up uh into northern Colorado, we also have several warnings going on up in that uh direction. Uh we have uh flash flood advisories for parts of Estes Park and the Glen Haven. That also includes the Cameron Peak burn scar up that way, south of Red Feather Lakes as well. All of these flood advisories go until about 5:15 here. And same deal there at some of those storms uh throughout that entire stretch there have dumped anywhere from 1 to 1 and 1/2 in of rain, very short period of time.
Another area there is Pingree Park.
That's one of those areas that uh may have some flooding going on or it will occur shortly uh as this uh continues to roll through that area. There's a closer look at Glenhaven. You have another wave coming through your area. Now, let's jump into western Colorado where the entire half of the western slope has a flood watch that goes until 3:00 in the morning and then we zoom real tight in there. Look at the advisories here.
We'll start down south down around just outside of Telluride here. We have a flash flood warning going on for the Uray fire up right along uh 550 there till 3:00. They could have flooding problems on the burn scar up in the that location there. Also, just outside at Telluride in a little area called Sawpit there in San Miguel County. They have a flash flood warning going on till 3:45 for that one.
Montrose just got hit with a big big thunderstorm up in that area until 5:00.
They have a flash flood warning going on for that one there. They have had Oh my gosh, they've had anywhere from a half inch to an inch and a half of rain through that area. There is a burn scar in that location as well and any of those areas all the way through the city could have some problems with debris flowing and that type of thing. So, we're watching for that.
Then we zoom it out even further here.
Let's go up up north right along and south of I-70 here in Garfield County there. There's a flash flood warning till 6:30 near the Carbondale area. That includes Glenwood Springs, Carbondale, Cattle Creek is included in that area for the flash flooding. They have had 2 to 3 inches of rain out of some of the thunderstorms up that way. So, that'll continue. Highway 82 right there that runs through there. That's prone to rock slides, mudslides and that type of thing through that area. So, we're keeping an eye on that one as well. Just kind of a slew of flooding issues and again that whole area of western Colorado in that dark green area. That's a flood watch going on. So, let's uh over to that.
That goes till 3:00 a.m. You can see it's a large chunk of real estate out in that part of the state. So, that's kind of a quick recap of uh some of the flooding rains we have going on out there across Colorado. There will be more between now and 4:00. Meteorologist Joe Ruocco will handle duties in the 4:00 news and I'll join you at 5:00 and 6:00 with an update on the heavy rains, the monsoon rains that are moving back across the eastern part of Colorado.
It's going to be a good week from here on out as far as rainfall goes. So, till then, stay safe. We'll see you on TV.
