Naija Triumphs | Student Turns Plastic Waste Into Fuel In Innovative Project
Added:Okay, let me call the HR right now.
>> [laughter] >> Let's get to our next matter and this is Niger triumphs. From the streets of Lagos to global stages, Nigerians are leaving their mark in every sphere in the world. Here on Niger triumphs, we shine the spotlight on Nigerian wins, big or small, and celebrate the great and the glory and the unshakable spirit of the Nigerian collective in order to remind ourselves that every time Niger never carries last.
A young Nigerian student is earning recognition for an innovative project aimed at tackling plastic pollution while creating alternative energy solutions. Zainab Billiaminu, a chemistry student at Federal University, Dutse, is exploring how discarded sachet water bags can be converted into useful fuel products such as kerosene and diesel. Her project focuses on transforming one of Nigeria's most common sources of plastic waste into something valuable, highlighting the potential of science and innovation in addressing environmental challenges.
From the classroom to the laboratory, Zainab Billiaminu's work serves as a reminder that innovation can come from anywhere and that young Nigerians continue to make meaningful contributions through science and technology. That of course is where we're going to draw the curtains on Trending Now on today, but of course remember you can always join the conversation with a very simple hashtag trending now on TVC and your story might just make its way right about here. Mr. Show me, Rhea and Ibrahim, this is a great feat.
>> Yeah.
>> Trying to turn sachet bags into fuel. I mean into kerosene and diesel. You know, very important essential commodities.
>> In today's Nigeria.
>> Yes, it's not just about the impact it will have on our environment in terms of waste disposal. I'm sure many state governments will embrace that including the federal government. But it's also about the derivatives from that waste which is about diesel and kerosene. Who are the people using kerosene more? Poor people.
Who are the people using diesel? You know, logistics, farmers, you transport more goods from one place to the other.
So I think this lady should be supported. Zainab Billiamin, well done. Please keep researching.
>> Uh Mr. Showbiz, you just threw a shade at me cuz I still use kerosene.
>> [laughter] >> But hey, Ibrahim, over to you.
>> Well, I'll say congratulations to Zainab Billiamin because what she's done is to revert that used product back to waste from because when you use the catalytic cracker, you know, producing petrols, ethanol, etc., it actually comes from there. So she's just returning it back to the base. So but then it is quite innovative [clears throat] and creative and I say congratulations Nigeria.
Congratulations to Zainab Billiamin. She needs to be supported.
>> Exactly. She needs to be supported because I'll get to use kerosene to cook my jollof rice anyway. We're very very innovative. It's just beautiful to see the things that we do when we set our mind to do it. I'm very happy for her.
Big congratulations and I believe that we should all rather rally around together and support her. And what we're doing here on TVC is highlighting her good work for the world to see. Thank you so much Nelson. Fantastic stories this beautiful Monday. Thank you so much for all of that. Well, this is now where we'll close the curtains on the show today. I know you had a fantastic time cuz I did as well. [music] It's very important to let you know that the views and reactions of our resource persons are theirs and they have no connection whatsoever with TVC. Your view is very [music] important to us. So, up next is Your View with the beautiful ladies and just after that, we'll give you This Morning with Yori Folarin. We'll see you tomorrow, bright and early. Good morning, Nigeria.
