Even well-maintained vehicles with good service history and low mileage will experience mechanical failures over time, particularly around 100,000 miles, requiring owners to expect and budget for repairs such as drive shaft, prop shaft, and sensor replacements.

It's Broke!! My Discovery 4 Had A ProblemAdded:
Right, a quick update on the old Discovery 4.
If you've seen a lot of my videos in the past, I'm always raving about how good they are.
Buy a good one, they've been looked after, low mileage, full service history, blah blah blah blah blah. All the good stuff. Oh, I thought the road's blocked.
But, even the good ones go wrong.
So, this one here has just cost me £1,500.
But, not because of the reason why it was making a noise. Let me start from the beginning. One day, I was driving home, I heard a clunk clunk clunk. I thought, "What's that?" As I stopped, nothing. The gear The gearbox is all smooth, the engine picks up nice. So, obviously it's on rotation. I thought, "Clunk clunk clunk." I thought, "Oh, no, what could that possibly be?"
Anyway, I sent it down to Jed.
I said, "There's There's a clunking noise wrong with it." He looked underneath it, and he said, "Bloody hell, your drive shaft, look at it." I said, "Well, that's a cheap fix, isn't it?" He said, "I don't know, four or five hundred quid." I said, "Get it done."
He changed the drive shaft, and I can't remember exactly what he said, but it's something to do with rubbing against the ABS sensor, so that too needed changing cuz it was too far away from something. It wasn't reading. So, it was in like a limp mode. Anyway, bought an bought um OEM one from Land Rover. They sent it out, fixed it all, still the same problem.
I thought, "Oh god, what can it be?" He said, "It must be a faulty sensor."
I said, "Surely Land Rover's not going to send you a brand new faulty sensor."
He said, "Let me order another one."
Anyway, he ordered another one, fitted it, all the lights went out, brilliant.
I drove it home.
Oh, can't hear it no more, brilliant, he's fixed it. 400 quid, cheap fix.
Got it the next day, clunk. Clunk. I thought, "Oh my god, you're kidding me." It's clunking away, clunking away.
I said, "What could it be?" I was at a jet wash the day after, giving it a wash, and I had my little brush in between the wheels, and I said, "Oh, look.
It's the backing discs on the backing plates, they're called, on the back of the disc. Get the dirt off them." I said, "Look at that." He looked at it, he goes, "Oh, they're renowned for that.
They'll just rust away, and they just flap about in the wind."
I said, he said, "But there's only one."
I said, "Change both. Change both."
So, he ordered two of them, and I thought about it for a while, and I thought, "I don't think it's that, cuz it'd be it it kept coming and going. It wasn't constant." So, I thought, "If it was them, it'd be constantly doing that."
And he goes, "Well, look look at them.
They need changed anyway. I've got them here."
I said, "Oh, what could it be?" I said, "Just get on the ramp, check it all over, top to bottom."
Checked it all over.
Took it for a drive, then it disappeared, and then it come back.
And I went, "What could it be?" And then we're reversing it off the ramps, and we all heard it, clunk clunk.
You know what it was?
Prop shaft. The bloody prop shaft. He said, "It's got to be that." I said, "Can you not just change the bearing on the prop shaft?" He said, "For what it cost, just change the whole prop shaft, get it done."
So, anyway, he changed the prop shaft, and he rang me up. He said, "Listen, those backing plates are just hanging around." He said, "Let's change them. They're here." I said, "Oh, go on then, change them." So, he changed them, changed them, changed the prop shaft. Now look at it, quiet as a mouse.
So, even though if you do get a good one, expect things to go It's just wear and tear. Expect things to go wrong. It's on 100 103,601 mi now. So, it's on original drive shaft, original prop shaft. After 100,000 miles things start going wrong.
So, he said he said we did change the things that it wasn't but that definitely needed changing anyway or it wouldn't have passed its next MOT. He said that drive shaft I could just play with it like that. I said well, everything you've done was done for a reason so even if I didn't do it then, even if you found out it was a prop shaft we'd have done that straight away.
The drive shaft, I don't know if back in place would fail the MOT or not, I don't know. Would it fail the MOT?
Well, it's bloody annoying anyway so it's all done now.
So, there you go. You can buy a Discovery 4 4's better than a 3.
Obviously, I started off with a Discovery 3. Here's a picture of one. I had a black one and that's when I saw I went out in a Discovery 4 and I thought, oh god I much prefer the Discovery 4. So, I sold that black Discovery 3 bought a like a bronzy Discovery 4 sold that a year later, regretted selling it and I bought this one. I bought this one about 6 months ago. I'll tell you another little story about this one as well.
I've I've had this since December. What are we in now? May? Still not got the logbook back for it yet. Oh my god, what a ball ache. I bought it from a garage.
They so say sent the logbook off after they taxed it.
I said I haven't got the logbook back yet and they said what can we do? I said I don't know, what can you do?
So, I've applied for a new logbook. 25 pound they charge you to apply for a logbook and then they wrote me a letter saying, please send us the chassis number, a picture of the car on its own front number plate, back number plate, [ __ ] your DNA.
So, I sent all that off.
That was 2 weeks ago. I've was not had nothing back. So, I don't know whose name this car is in. If you get any tickets, just rip them up.
Hopefully, fingers crossed soon, I'll have logbook. Obviously, it's insured and taxed. All my vehicles are insured.
I have a logbook in my name. I can then I didn't want a logbook so I can put my YouTube number plate on there.
So, when I first bought this, I put my YouTube number plate on cuz I thought the logbook would only be a 2 or 3 days.
They're very quick now.
And a week passed. I thought, "Jesus Christ, I better put the number plates back on." So, I stuck the original number plates over my YouTube number plates.
So, as soon as I get a logbook, I can transfer the plates on. Just rip them off and have my YouTubes on.
Probably said it then. Jesus Christ.
But, no. I'm still happy with Discovery.
I'm never going to sell this one. They drive so nice.
What have I done to it since I've had it? I've nothing. I tell you what, when I was down Jed's, I said to him, "Give it a service while it is here. You might as well."
So, he done he done an oil oil oil filter and air filter. It was a quick service.
Keep on top of the services. Keep changing the oil. I would say every 6,000 mi. That's what I'm going to do this on. So, I've probably got another 2 2 1/2 thousand miles to go. But, I will change that at the end of summer ready for winter. I'll probably drive it a lot less in the winter.
And at the minute, I'm all over the place sorting stuff out.
So, there you go. I just wanted to do a quick video for you lot. Just say They're bloody good trucks trucks, whatever you want to call them. Get yourself one. But, even if you do buy a good one, be prepared to spend a bit of dollar.
I love it still.
Even though it is raining, I'm going to head to the car wash. Got [ __ ] bird [ __ ] all over this. They come over the house every day. Bonnet's full of it.
The bloody roof full of it.
And don't leave it on there too long cuz it um stains the paintwork. So, I'm going to go and jet wash it. I'll clean it off.
And then, I'm going to be videoing a car next week, which is rather what I will No, it's a supercar. It's a supercar.
Look, the motorway shut. Oh, [ __ ] Let's go. The motorway shut today. There's been a big accident, so everyone's come through this little town I live in.
It is what it is.
I'll catch you all soon. And remember, drive safe. And hit that subscribe button. We're nearly at 5,000 now. Let's get to 5,000. Come on. Just over a year I've been doing this. 5,000. Let's go.
See you all soon.
[ __ ] had the car wash. Yeah, yeah, yeah, the car wash, baby.
Woah, woah. Who washes their car in the rain? Kevin does, that's who.
Do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do That way.
Use a bit of God's polish. And then you need to dry it. It dry nice. Well, this is this this car wash in my town is like a pure water car wash. So, you don't have to dry it.
Dry spotless.
Does it? Not really, no. But, so I say it does. Anyway, let's give it a good foam.
