This video demonstrates how meteorologists forecast severe weather by analyzing current conditions (temperature, humidity, dew point, wind speed) and interpreting radar imagery, including identifying storm patterns like kidney bean shapes that indicate damaging winds, and explaining how cold fronts bring significant temperature drops and precipitation changes.

Cleveland area weather forecast: Watching for strong storms later todayAdded:
Well, we've got some weather coming our way, don't we, Mark Johnson?
>> Oh, yes, we do. Right now, we're enjoying those temperatures in the 80s.
A nice little breeze coming in out of the southwest. It's feeling like July.
Tomorrow, we're going back to Betsy, which month? March, April, >> April.
>> April.
>> May.
I like that. We're putting that in the weather dictionary right now. Look at that hazy sunshine. We got 87°.
Humidity 43%. Due points are in the lower 60s. So, you're feeling that humidity once you get those due points into the 60s. It starts to feel muggly as my kids would say. Southerntherly breezes are blowing 15 to 20 mph. Severe storms this evening and overnight. We're tracking those. We got a weather impact alert. Wet, cool Wednesday and then still unsettled weekend weather ahead, especially Friday afternoon and Friday night. So right now we are a level two of five slight risk across most of the 3 News viewing area through the evening hours. Generally should be done by about 11:00 already. Our first severe thunderstorm watch including this little county Erie County in our news 3 news viewing area. We've got Ottawa Sunduski and Senica counties and points west.
Here's Defiance County. A new severe thunderstorm warning for damaging winds to 60 mph. Also some large hail movement is more north than east right now. So these storms are going to take their time moving on in. We've got a few hours before they reach Cleveland. So if you have to go home and finish mowing that lawn, you still have time to fry some burgers, too. So showers and storms here, a lot of lightning there, damaging winds, large hail the main threat here.
It's it's a trough coming in. The front is behind it that will arrive tomorrow in the wee hours of the morning. So, our weather impact alert, showers and some strong to severe thunderstorms, hot and humid. Yeah, mainly PM rain and storms, damaging winds, heavy rain. You got to have a way to get the warnings. Okay, so here's your national design, Mart hour by hour. We'll watch the hour by hour. 1 2 3. Anywhere you see these bright echoes here, could be some severe thunderstorms. Now, what I automatically look at when I see something like this, I see a little kidney bean shape. I see a little bow. That would tell me that there could be a little damaging wind gust coming out of here through the Akran Portage County area, maybe even Madina, even down here toward Millersburg. A little curve there would indicate some possibilities of some straight line winds. And then as we get into the wee hours of tomorrow morning, mainly scattered rain showers, maybe a rumble of thunder. Next few hours, here we go, falling down. Look at this. By 7 a.m., you can tell when the front arrives. Boom. 56 at 7 a.m. Our highs tonight, if I told you our highs will be 70, 71 degrees. Would you believe me?
For tomorrow? Yeah. At midnight, right?
At midnight, we could right around 70.
That'll officially be the high. But then we're going to spend tomorrow in the 50s. Scattered rain, blustery, and chilly. Scattered rain primarily in the morning. Big picture, you know where the warm air is? Where it's orange and yellow and red. And where the blue air is, that's where it's chilly. Uhoh.
Whoa. No, no, no, no. Sorry. Wednesday night and Thursday, it's going to get chilly again. My wife is at home calling the lawyer right now. She's like, "I'm tired of this cold weather." Johnson, here's your Union Home Mortgage 10day.
50s tomorrow, probably upper 40s by 8:00 p.m. tomorrow evening. Scattered showers mainly in the morning. 62 Thursday.
Okay, not terrible. A little blustery.
65 Friday. We'll add some rain in though. Afternoon, evening, and overnight. 70 Saturday, 74 Sunday, 71 Memorial Day with just a few showers around.
>> Just just cover that hot dog bun. I showed you the move yesterday.
>> It's called the >> show you the guy.
>> You just protect it from the rain.
>> Just like that.
>> So, recapping tomorrow at this time, we're 35 degrees colder.
>> Absolutely.
>> Okay.
>> And the weekend is not a complete washer.
>> No, not at all. Weekend, there'll be periods of showers and then we'll have several hours of dry. And we're going to Betsy's house for a picnic anyway, so she's gonna make it good.
>> That's it. And I might even let you indoors so you don't have to cover your hot dog.
>> I'll be at my granddaughter's sixth birthday party probably getting soaked.
>> Oh, I can't believe she's six.
>> I know. I can't either.
