Nissan shows off their next-gen ProPILOT!

[00:00:00]Robert Duffer with Kelly Blue Book. We are here to test the Pro Pilot next iteration which will debut first in Japan in 2027. We're going to test drive it now. We don't know when it's coming to US market, but Nissan is calling this a level four hands-free system. They can't legally call it that, but it's more like a level two plus, which means that we're going to ride along and it's going to drive itself in a dense urban area of Tokyo without us needing to intervene at all. Eventually, it's going to roll out into the United States, Nissan tells us. But we don't know when or in what vehicle. This test mule that we're going to drive is a Nissan AR, which is discontinued in the States. But again, we don't know what cars it'll appear, and we don't know how much it'll be, but Nissan wants to spread it throughout 90% of their lineup within the next few years. Uh, one of the things that this system has are 11 cameras, five radars, and one key LAR system. There's six cameras up here, two in the front, two in the back, and then on the side mirrors as well. So, we're going to test it out and see how it goes. The system observes speed limits from road signs. It handles scenarios such as a cyclist that was veering up in our blind spot and started to speed ahead of us. There was a pedestrian that sprinted across the street and the vehicle had to do a bit of a hard break.

[00:01:15]And then in one construction zone where there was a flagger stopping our car and then a cement mixer backing up and then another delivery vehicle blocking another part of the lane, it handled really well and overall I was really impressed with how safe it was and how differential much like Japanese people it was to pedestrians. I found it similar to the level of comfort that I've experienced in Whimo in San Francisco as well as Tesla's latest iteration of full self-driving. It's much more reliable, much safer, and uh much more comfortable for me than the average ride share driver. When it launches, I can't wait. It was really impressive.
