Strong & Severe Storms Possible Overnight into TuesdayAdded:
wind, weather wise.
>> Yeah, I mean, I'm thankful that we're inside the hotel because the wind is kind of miserable out there. It's It's died down a little bit since when we first got here. It's not howling anymore.
>> Yeah. Michael, what's it like over there? Yeah, it's still windy here as well. Last check at the airport, we had a wind wind sustained at 26 mph gusting higher than that. And it's that southerly breeze that's brought up some moisture off the Gulf that you're feeling as you're stepping outside.
There is some mugginess to the air. Now, we're quiet locally, but we are tracking a few showers and thunderstorms. We've got a couple of storms that have popped up over western Oklahoma. One severe thunderstorm warning with this particular storm had some hail reported near I-40 as that storm tracked up near Elk City. And then farther to the north here, we've got numerous severe storms including tornado warnings. And some of these tornadoes are confirmed tornadoes now from northeastern portions of Kansas and the northwestern portions of Missouri. Severe thunderstorms are all the way back here from near Pratt and Hutchinson, Kansas. And we just had a tornado watch issued. Now, that does include Chautauqua County and Montgomery County. Or I should say just actually Chautauqua County here and Montgomery County. And not does not include Labette County in Kansas until 1:00 in the morning. You can see the numerous tornado watches from Iowa all the way back in the northwestern portions of Texas. But we'll talk about the timing of those storms here in just a second.
For more on the record that we had this morning, a significant record warm low temperature, certified meteorologist Brandon will be breaking that down and a look at that storm threat for our tonight, Brandon.
Michael, we had that record low temperature this morning of 78°. So, that record warm low at the Tulsa International Airport smashing the old record of 77. Now, in terms of those storms coming in overnight tonight, well after midnight through early tomorrow morning, you can see the setup there of the different zones. All modes of severe weather certainly possible, especially damaging gusty winds and maybe an isolated tornado or two along the leading edge of a cold front with that squall line moving in. And still some strong to severe storms ongoing tomorrow morning, probably wrapping up by early in the afternoon, Michael. Yeah, let's go ahead and get a look at the timing with those as well. Mention we do have a tornado watch that does now include Chautauqua County and Montgomery County in Kansas until 1:00 in the morning. You can see the storms lined up here approaching from the north and west as we get toward about midnight tonight.
They'll be moving in and tracking to the the individual storms within the line will actually track off to the east, but the line itself will be pushing off to the south and east and still north of I-44 at 3:30 in the morning. So again, for I-44 the Tulsa metro, this may not come in until maybe a 5:00, 6:00 to 7:00 window. And then those storm chances go up in the met metro. Some severe weather is possible as Brandon was mentioning, mostly a wind and hail potential with this, but we still have to monitor.
Maybe we get a brief spin up on this line and then it keeps pushing to the south and the east with the severe threat likely coming to an end by early afternoon. We'll likely stay dry tomorrow, but we're still going to leave a slight chance of a shower in the forecast in the afternoon hours tomorrow and then we could get a few spotty showers, maybe a few rumbles of thunder overnight Tuesday night into Wednesday morning. That should be moving out by Wednesday afternoon. There you can see the wind shaking the Bob Hurley RV Weather Camera Network looking back toward downtown here from Brookside. 88° our current temperature. 89 has been the high today and actually the wind check now at 28 mph. Temperatures tomorrow will be much cooler. Be ready for this.
It may be a cooler afternoon with falling temperatures behind this front.
Notice as we go into the afternoon hours, those temperatures continue to drop. Low of the 60s, maybe even some 50s tomorrow. As those storms move on out, we'll keep the cooler temperatures around on Wednesday. Then as we head into the holiday weekend, may have some more spotty chances for showers and storms. Overall severe threat should stay low, but we have to keep those umbrellas around even into the Memorial Day weekend. All right, Michael.
