His plan, get drunk, climb into a crate, and mail himself to freedom. With a sympathetic guard's help, he stuffed a wooden box with rum and sealed [music] himself inside. The crate, labeled government property, was loaded onto a ship bound for Sydney. Buckley passed the voyage in a rum-fueled stupor, banging on the walls when bored.

[00:00:28]Dockworkers nearly dropped the haunted crate into the harbor when he started yelling. Slurring his words, Buckley demanded they deliver him to the governor's office. The governor, amused by the absurdity, pardoned him on the spot. Buckley walked free, lived as a farmer, and never got his refund.
