55 Cancri e is an exoplanet located approximately 40 light-years from Earth in the constellation Cancer, orbiting its parent star at such close proximity that one complete orbit takes only about 17 hours. The extreme heat causes surface temperatures to reach over 2,000°C on the star-facing side and around 1,000°C on the night side, creating a vast ocean of lava. Despite these hellish conditions, scientists theorize that up to 30% of the planet's mass could be composed of diamond, formed under immense pressure from carbon-rich materials. This extreme super-Earth serves as a cosmic preview of Earth's potential future, as our own Sun will eventually expand and destroy Earth in a similar manner.

Did you know that this planet is actually the hell of the universe? This planet is called 55 Cancri e, an exoplanet located about 40 light years from Earth. What makes it so extreme is that it's so [music] close to its star that a year lasts only about 17 hours.
The temperature on the surface is around 1,000° C on the night side, [music] while the side facing the star reaches more than 2,000° C, meaning its surface is essentially a vast ocean of lava.
Despite these extreme conditions, scientists believe that up to 30% of its mass could be made of diamond.
the star will swallow the entire planet, leaving behind no trace. [music] The same fate awaits Earth, which will be destroyed by our own star.
