Clouds building overnight indicate moisture accumulation in the atmosphere, which typically leads to rain and thunderstorm chances the following day; meteorologists assess storm risk by monitoring cloud thickening patterns, wind speeds, and ground saturation levels to predict severe weather potential.

Clouds build up tonight as we track a storm threat for Thursday
Added:City Welches talking that first alert forecast. It felt so nice out. You say that.
>> Oh, I know the past few days.
>> Yeah, we're on a good roll here.
>> Today was the first day that I was able to have lunch downtown.
The kilts are very real everyone.
>> Oh, I can't wait.
>> The tartan army is is very real. We We are not overhyping it.
>> Yeah, my husband's really cashing in on his ancestry DNA kit right now. He's >> [laughter] >> 27% Scottish and he's like looking up, which he was shocked by before. He thought he was more Italian, more Portuguese. No. Now, he's probably having a ball.
>> need to get him a kilt? Is it time?
>> Somebody actually did it at his last station.
>> [laughter] >> You know what? Yes, it has been gorgeous to get outside and what a fun time in Boston to be outside enjoying all of the soccer fans that have come into town. 75° out there right now. So, we've built in clouds. Clouds are building in and they're going to continue building in overnight tonight ahead of rain chances. Tomorrow is going to be wet, so I hope you got out to enjoy that dry conditions and the sunshine really the past week. We've been just seeing gorgeous conditions out there. It has cooled off a bit. A few thunderstorms over parts of Upstate New York at this time. There could be an isolated thunderstorm that slides its way into Western Massachusetts, but we're looking mainly dry in Eastern Massachusetts at this time. And if you do see any rain, you're definitely going to be the exception, not the rule as we go through the evening. It will stay mostly cloudy though 4:00 to 6:00 temperatures in the upper 70s and then those clouds really thickening up overnight tonight. By tomorrow morning, you're likely going to see some rain chances and then we have scattered thunderstorm chances coming in for tomorrow. Friday though, right back to a partly cloudy a gorgeous day coming in on Friday and then Saturday in those low 80s as well. So, coming in on Friday, a gorgeous day and also the next game we're seeing Scotland versus Morocco temperatures in the low 80s through the game. It's going to be nice. It's going to be sunny on Friday. Definitely a great day to have any type of plans that are outside after we clear out these rain chances that are coming in on Thursday. So, Thursday morning, a round of rain does come in. It does stick around through the morning commute, and then 9:00, 10:00, still seeing some areas of rain moving overhead. Now, right here, around 1:00 in the afternoon, this is what's going to make or break the later afternoon round of rain. If we start to clear out the skies between our first round of rain and the second potential uh for thunderstorms, it's going to act as a little bit of fuel if we get some sunshine in there.
And some of these storms could get on the stronger side. Right now, it looks like the best chance to clear anything out is going to be over New Hampshire and over Vermont. Massachusetts is a bit iffy, but an isolated thunderstorm will be possible as the next round comes in between 4:00, 5:00, 6:00. And you can see uh trying to come in as a line, but it likely won't make it as far south as say the South Shore or even the Cape, but a few scattered showers uh will be left over. So, watching that thunderstorm risk, the more sunshine we see, the higher the risk is going to be through the day tomorrow. Right now, it does look like areas in New Hampshire and Vermont have the highest potential for thunderstorms before we then clear things out as we go into Friday. And then another gorgeous day coming our way. Also, Thursday, across the board, it's going to be windy. We'll have the wind coming in from the south, and it's getting up to say 30, even 40 mph at times as we go through our afternoon.
So, this is a look at uh 2:00, 2:30, around 3:00 in the afternoon when wind gusts will be near 40 mph along the Cape and especially along the coast. And then we'll start to see those gusts diminishing as we go through the overnight hours. So, with any thunderstorms that you do see tomorrow, wind is going to be the main risk uh within them. That's likely why any thunderstorm warnings would be declared because of the wind and also the potential for flooding. With the dry ground we have out there, if you see a heavy downpour, the ground isn't going to be able to absorb that right away.
So, we do have that scattered chance for damaging wind. And Hail Storm Prediction Center has the entire New England, all of New England under a level two out of five slight risk for severe weather through your day on Thursday. I do think the risk further north is a little bit higher. So, that's parts of even southern New Hampshire included in that.
80° as we go through the day tomorrow, staying in the 80s through the official start of summer, which is on Sunday.
Also Sunday, Father's Day, and the chance for an isolated storm does come into the picture for the afternoon.
>> looking gorgeous across the 10-day forecast.
