5 things Italians do that seem weird until you get them 😉

Stay until the end because today we're going to talk about five Italian weird habits that actually when I explain to you why we do them, they actually make a lot of sense. Numero uno, Italians when they're answering the phone, they say pronto.

[00:00:21]So, pronto means ready, but it's the equivalent of hello.

[00:00:25]The reason why we say pronto is actually very interesting. So, back when the phone was invented, operators would manually link phone calls and then they would announce pronto to confirm that the line was connected between the two people.

[00:00:44]So, in Italy it's rare or actually like impossible that you're going to have dinner with your cappuccino. Cappuccino is generally a morning type of drink.

[00:00:56]Some people also have it in the afternoon, but traditionally it is for breakfast. Many Italians think that cappuccino is a bit too heavy to have with your meal and that's why we we never have cappuccino with our dinner specifically or even with our lunch.

[00:01:12]Numero tre, Italians often say senti before asking something. Senti literally means listen and maybe if you're an English speaker, this sounds a little bit rude, but it's actually super acceptable. In Italy, we use it with friends, with people we know. It's used in informal situations and actually it's a very good way to start asking your question. Like, "Senti, ma che fai stasera?"

[00:01:39]Numero quattro, Italians greet each other with two kisses on the cheek. You generally do this with people that you know, of course, but men can do it, women can do it and it's not, you know, weird or it's not too close. It's something that we do quite a lot. I know that for some people this might feel a little bit too much, but in Italy it's totally [music] okay to do it.

[00:02:10]So we generally use bidet, you know, after and it's something that we really love for hygienic reasons and it's just very normal to have it in our houses.

[00:02:22]It's also common in other European countries, but it's definitely that is very very common to use in in Italy.
