Modern military drones like Ukraine's AN-196 feature advanced computer vision systems that enable precise navigation over 1,000-2,000 km ranges without GPS, but remain vulnerable to electronic interference that can cause unintended flight paths, as demonstrated when drones strayed into Finland during the conflict.

Ukraine's 1000km Drone Just freeze Helsinki #ukraine #military #droneHinzugefügt:
This is the type of drone that strayed into Finland. It's Ukraine's long-range AN-196.
Now for the design specs. It has a wingspan of just under 7 m and a range of 1,000 to 2,000 km. And this particular model weighs between 250 and 300 kg. The manufacturer says the drone can find its target even if GPS doesn't work. It uses computer vision, which allows it to compare real-time imagery to satellite maps and navigate accurately over long distances without GPS navigation. But that doesn't mean it's foolproof. And many leaders and experts say the reason that this drone veered into Finland was due to Russian electronic interference. A drone of this size and traveling this far would carry about 50 kilos of explosives, experts say. If something like that were to hit a residential area, the lethal blast radius would be about 10 m. And around 35 m away from the explosion, eardrums would rupture. But there would be damage over a much wider area, as larger windows would shatter at a distance of roughly 350 m due to the shockwave. Two drones crashed in Kolovesi and another drone was found later this week on lake ice just across the Russian border in Finland. But the drones that ended up here in Finland actually strayed here.
It was not a deliberate attack. Ukraine apologized for the drones and assured under no circumstances were they directed at Finland. Finnish leaders understand this, but as Ukraine ramps up its attacks on Russia's oil exporting infrastructure near St. Petersburg, such incidents are likely to happen again.
