Sudokétudes : Set 11 - 05: North Side追加:
Hello everyone and welcome to the channel. If you like puzzles or if you'd like to see me struggle to solve one and have a laugh at my expense, then you're at the right address. So please like and subscribe.
Today I'm going to be trying my hand at North side by Bram Stoker. If you'd like to give it a go, there will be a link in the description below. If you do, please let me know how you fared and what you thought of it. This is the fifth puzzle in the Sudoku Tudes uh series 11. If you'd like to check the others, there will be a link to the playlist somewhere in the description.
Right, let's read the rules.
Normal Sudoku rules apply. We have to place the digits 1 to 9 once each in each row, column and box without repetition.
Numbered rows. A clue outside the grid indicates the digit which has to be placed in the nth cell in the corresponding direction where n is the digit placed in the first cell in that direction.
Right, so if this is if this is five, it would mean that the fifth cell starting from the three x.
So this is the first one would have to be three.
If this was eight, it would be eight and so on and so forth.
From the top, you have to count downwards. From the bottom, you count upwards and so on and so forth. Yeah, that's it. Sip of tea.
Restart.
So the first order of business is to see if if to see is if we have any given digit that's part of the numbered rows. And we do know where six is in row four and column six actually.
And start reading from right to left, this is the fourth fourth cell. So this is four. It says well the fourth cell downs downwards in column number six.
Which means that this one is nine because the four is in the ninth position re-counting from below.
And this one is nine as well for the same well same reason except counting from left to right in this case.
Um right. So now what do I know? I know that one of these is nine.
Um one of these is nine.
Is that helping?
Not really. Okay.
Um four and six that that help as well.
Yeah, let's continue.
Any other given doesn't look like it, does it? Well, one thing to keep in mind in um numbered rows is that the first digit that you encounter can't be one unless that the outside digit digit outside of the cell is as well one cuz this would would be saying place the number five in the first cell but the first cell already has a five.
And there's for similar reasons we can't repeat the the digit outside of the grid in the first cell except if it's one cuz if this is five, it would be saying the fifth the five in this row is in the fifth cell but it would already put it in the first cell. So that wouldn't work.
So we can't put five here. We can't put two there or one. So well, except here we know that we can't put one. But this one isn't a three or a one for instance.
Right.
Uh small comfort.
Right. Well, I guess I have to pencil mark some of these but what what which one makes sense to start with?
Which one would make sense? The two maybe?
Cuz there's a two. There's a few of those. The four here would have the same issue.
Well, fine. Going to have to do multiple I guess and see what sticks.
Cuz this one we can't have one or two.
Right, but I can't have three either for multiple reasons. Well, the three is gone but I couldn't have three because there's already a two here and I can't have two there. So those aren't two.
So this one what could this one be? It's any of those except eight again.
So it's uh it can't be five. So it's four. Oh, it can't be six either. Oh, okay. We're getting somewhere. Four one two three are out of the question. Four is okay. Five and six are gone. Seven is possible. Eight isn't because eight is gone. Oh, seven isn't possible either.
Ooh.
And nine is gone.
Is it four?
Really?
Wow, this didn't look So it's not one two or three. It could be four. It's not five. It's not six.
It's not seven. It can't be eight because the eight's position is already filled and it can't be nine. This is four which means that this one is two.
Right.
Um okay.
Doesn't give me anything else though, does it?
Okay. Well, fine. Let's continue then.
What about this one? Well, it's not one two three either. It's not four or five anymore.
Though six is possible.
Seven is possible.
Eight isn't because eight is filled and nine is gone. So it's six or seven which means one of these is two. Okay, this one isn't resolved.
Right, let's continue here. It's not one two or three.
It's not four for multiple reasons. It could be five.
It's not six.
It could be seven.
And it's not eight or nine. It's five or seven. So one of these are four. Again, we're not resolved.
Well, this one I presume there's enough places for this one. Oh, it isn't one but it's not two, three not four, three, five, six, seven. Yeah, it's enough.
This one is resolved. What about this eight?
It's not one or two but we could have three.
It's not We could have three.
It's not four. It's not five. It's not six.
It could be seven. Well, it's not eight.
It could be seven or nine. Okay, that's not three, seven and nine. Okay.
Right, let's continue here around the clock.
This isn't one two three or four also, right? Okay. Could be five.
It's not six. It could be seven. It's not eight or nine since they're filled.
Okay.
We're not really resolving anything though.
Mm.
This one is done. Five. I'm not going to do that. Four.
Um well, at least it's not one two three or four. Could be five.
Uh it could be five. It's not six. It's not seven.
It could be eight. Oh, it's five or eight.
Okay, so five or eight.
What about this one? It's not one. It couldn't be two but could be three.
It can't be four, five or six. Can be seven. It can't be eight and it's not nine. So it's three or seven.
Okay, they're all very quite constrained but um but not resolved. Okay.
Maybe I'm missing something but let's continue and then we'll see. Two. It's not one. It couldn't be two. Can be three.
It can be four.
It's not five or six. It's not seven or eight.
Or nine. Oh, okay. Hold on. Let me do this again. It's three. It can be four.
Three four.
Three four. Yeah, it's not five or six.
It's not seven. It couldn't be eight and it's not nine. Okay, it's three or four.
So one of these are two and one of these were two. Don't know if that actually matters.
All right. What about Well, this one is resolved. Seven. Not going to do that.
But yeah, not yet in any case. Just like the five and the one well and the three.
In a bit.
Now the three could be interesting cuz it's not one two or three.
Well, why isn't it one? Well, why isn't it two? Well, it's not two. No, it's correct. Yeah.
It's one two or three. It's not one two or three. So Right, when we get to it.
Six.
Six. There's well, it could be two or three though.
It's not four.
Could be five.
Um it's probably not going to be very useful, is it?
Five. It's not six obviously. It's not seven.
It's not eight or nine. Okay, two three or five.
Eight.
It's not two. It's not three.
It could be four.
Or five. It can't be six. It's not seven. It can't be eight in any case and it's not nine. So it's four or five.
Four or five. Well, this this might be interesting. One of these is eight.
I didn't do that anywhere else but this is because it's there in the same box.
Right. What about this eight?
It's not one two or three.
It's not four. It's not five. It could be six.
It's not seven. Oh, it's not eight or nine.
Hold on again. It couldn't It can't be one or eight. It can't It's not one.
It's not two. It's not three.
It's not four, five. It could be six.
It's not seven or nine and it can't be eight. It's definitely six. Now, that's say this is interesting. What is it? Do I get anything else out of that?
Uh maybe not.
Okay, we continue.
What about this one? Well, it's not one.
It's not two, though it could be three.
It's not four.
It could be five.
It's not six. That number it could be.
It's not seven or nine, but it could be eight. Hmm, that's three options.
Right. Well, I am going to look at this one cuz like I said, it's not one, two, three, or four.
However, from here forward, well, it's not so gone. Not so gone's gone.
So, it's five. It's not six or seven.
It's not eight. Why isn't it eight? Oh, because one of these is eight. See, that that works.
Cuz it's five.
>> [snorts] >> Because we've Well, because we've done this eight and we know one of these is eight, so this can't be eight.
So, again, it can't be one.
Well, it's not two because then this would have to be three. It's not three because it can never be three anyway. It's not four. It could be five.
It's not six or seven. It can't be eight or nine, so it's five.
Right. And this is a three then. Oh, and the five gives me a nine there.
That's useful.
It is useful. This becomes a nine.
This isn't a nine. Well, it couldn't have been a nine because otherwise I would need an eight here.
So, fine.
It's three or seven.
Uh no, can't have seven anymore. It's definitely three.
I can't even count.
I can't even count. It's definitely three. Okay. So, this becomes a four.
Now, now now we're getting somewhere.
That's a two.
That's a two.
Which means that this one isn't eight anymore. It's three or five. One of these are Oh, it's not five. It's three, so that's a six.
That is a six. Um So, one of these is a six.
One of these is a six. Oh, no, this one is a six.
Um I'm still missing a one, right? Is that correct? One, two, three.
No.
No, no, no, no, no.
Wow.
Again, I can't don't see this is a six.
I need a one and a seven. That's not the same.
A one and a seven.
Right.
Have I done the whole round now? It seems like it. No, maybe Well, I got the five by mistake. Maybe I should just do the seven and the one. I don't know.
Let's start from here. It's not one, two, three, or four. Yeah, but everything else works, right?
Five No, five is not there either.
So, this is six, seven, eight, nine.
Right, but it can't be nine because then this would be one. Okay, so it's six, seven, or eight. If it's seven, then this would have to be one and this would have to be nine. Not allowed.
Okay, so it's six or eight. Six or eight. One of these are a one.
Okay.
What about this seven?
It was definitely not one. You can't have one. It can't be seven, you know that. But two and three are allowed, right? No, there's no three. So, two Two is allowed.
No three.
No four. No five. No six. No seven.
Eight is allowed No, no eight. Really?
It's definitely two?
Am I missing something here? Two is okay. Three isn't. Four isn't. Five can't be because then this would have to be seven.
And then we have six, seven, and nine.
And eight are gone. So, this is definitely two. This becomes a seven.
That is not a two anymore.
So, three or five. Oh, I can't have five anymore cuz there's already a six there.
So, that is a three. That is a six.
That is a six.
Right.
That's funny.
I thought these would be more difficult.
So, if this one is seven, then it can't be one and this isn't eight. That's six.
Which means that that is that is a one.
This would have to be a one just by Sudoku and this would have to be one as well.
Again.
One of these would have to be one since these aren't.
Which means that these aren't one anymore and this one has to be.
Right.
Um though one of these These aren't one either.
So, one of these is one and this one isn't.
This becomes a one and that is the last missing piece, which is an eight.
This becomes an eight.
This would have to be an eight then, which means that that is a four. That is an eight. That's a one.
Seven, one.
Um what am I missing here? Five.
Five and a three then.
A three, which means that this one has to be three.
Uh because Why?
Cuz this one isn't three.
This one isn't three. Yeah, okay. So, this one becomes a two and that would have to be the last missing digit, which is seven.
And that's a five, which means it's correct. Didn't even look at that.
And this one would have to be um four.
Four and a two.
A four and a two. That's from six, seven.
And this would have to be eight, nine.
Those two would have to be um two and seven, right? So, that is a seven. That is a two.
I'd still be missing a five in row four.
And I need a two and I need a four and this would have to be four.
And this is now just Sudoku. I say just and watch me watch me make a mess of it.
Watch me make a mess of it.
It's five, which means that that is an eight, nine, eight.
And that would be the last seven No, it's not the last seven.
It is not. That would What am I still missing? A two and a nine. So, that is a two. That is a nine.
A two and a nine.
That would have to be a seven. It can't be five, so it becomes a seven, six, and the last digit is a nine.
Right. Let's check them. This one says two in the seventh position, correct.
Four in the fifth position, correct.
One in the sixth position, true. Six, four, correct. Eight in the third, correct. Eight in the fifth.
Yep. Six in the fourth, right. Fifth in the ninth, correct.
Four in the eighth, correct. Two in the third, right. Two in the fourth, yep.
Four in the ninth, uh-huh. Seven in the second, there it is. Six in the third, yes.
Eight in the fifth, yeah.
Sixth is an eight, yeah. Six in the three.
I don't know that.
The third is a six, yeah, correct. The fifth is a three, yep.
Ninth in the four, there it is. And the fourth is a two. Oh, all looks correct.
Moment of truth. Yay.
Very nice. Well, I hope that you enjoyed it as well. If you did, please like and subscribe. Maybe share and I'll see you next time. Bye-bye.
