Addie’s reaction captures the rare synergy between historical trauma and monster spectacle, proving that the film's true power lies in its human heart. It is a refreshing reminder that emotional depth can easily outperform a hundred-million-dollar budget.

Don't forget to like this video and to subscribe and to check out my Patreon if you want to vote on what I watch next. And let's get into Godzilla minus one. Godzilla 70th anniversary production. That's kind of crazy that it's been 70 years.
1945 final days of World War II.
Huh? So, he landed and there wasn't actually anything wrong.
He didn't want to die out there, huh?
Big Oh, is this where we first see Godzilla?
I mean, they keep saying it's something big.
>> Yeah, this the first time we see Godzilla.
Oh, that would be terrifying to see.
>> Yeah, this would be absolutely terrifying.
What if it makes it angry? I mean, it will make it angry.
It would just step on you like it was stepping on an ant.
>> Yeah, he's scared.
Now would be the TIME TO START SHOOTING.
YEAH, I DON'T KNOW if those guns will do anything to it besides just annoy it, make it angry.
Wow.
Yeah, just stepping on you like an ant.
Yeah, from that angle that's terrifying. I mean, I guess from all angles it's terrifying.
>> Wow.
Oh, he never actually shot it, right?
Wow.
Yeah, I guess it's the next day. You're waking back up.
I mean, it looks like Godzilla is gone.
Wow. Who moved the bodies in a line like that?
>> Yeah, I guess he did. I was about to say, I don't think Godzilla lined the bodies up like this.
>> Blame you.
What?
What?
What is this?
December 1945, Tokyo.
This was your home.
I imagine the answer is no.
Everybody's dead. Dang, my dearest son.
Oh. Oh, she handed you a baby. I didn't know what she handed you, but I wasn't expecting a baby.
>> Can't just leave this baby here.
Here is your baby.
So mean. So scary.
>> Dying mother begged me. Oh, so she You're not even the mother.
>> So he doesn't have anyone. You don't have anyone. The baby doesn't have anyone except for you two. Now, >> I guess she's sleeping here tonight.
It's not able to.
They're just trying to save the baby, do what they can. Baby doesn't have anyone.
Thank you for helping.
>> What a nuisance, I swear.
Thank you.
March 1946.
Please tell me the baby has been okay.
The men approved is a cleanup job. Oh, that sounds dangerous.
>> A certain amount of risk. Yeah, I would say a lot of risk.
Just because it's dangerous doesn't mean I I'll die. I mean, that's true, but again, this is very dangerous.
Special boat.
What does this boat look like?
Oh, yeah. If a mind goes off, I think this boat is going down.
I guess you're a kid compared to everyone else.
Hey. Yeah, you know what you're doing.
There you go.
>> Okay. I couldn't tell how far away we were from it. Okay. We were plenty far away.
Is this Godzilla again?
It sounds like Godzilla.
Okay. Okay. It was a dream.
July 1946.
Operation Crossroads.
Whoa.
So, I guess some time has passed.
Look at this little baby. I guess not so much a baby anymore.
You know, besides the danger element of this job, it looks like it'd be kind of fun. Very risky, though. A She drew you a picture.
Yeah. Time is passing.
Look at your place.
Beautiful.
Guess they're their own kind of family.
>> I mean, you're basically her father in March 1947.
Pacific Fleet Destroyer USS Lancaster was attacked and disabled by an unknown enemy.
>> Unknown enemy as in Godzilla.
It'll get to Japan soon. A1 1947.
Wow.
So, Godzilla did this. I mean, that ship is huge, but of course Godzilla would be able to take that down.
Godzilla was here.
So, Godzilla is a growing boy. Okay. I did think when we saw him at first I was like I thought Godzilla was bigger. I mean he was already massive but I was like I just in my head thought Godzilla was even bigger than that. So he's still growing.
>> Yeah. I think anyone would be terrified of Godzilla.
>> Oh Godzilla isn't here. Is he?
More of these fish. Yeah. Does I mean does this mean that Godzilla is close?
Oh.
Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. It is right there.
Okay. We found Godzilla.
>> It took down that one ship so easily. Oh my gosh. They don't have a chance.
I MEAN, GODZILLA IS GOING TO BE ABLE to move faster than them.
This is terrifying.
This boat is like a snack for Godzilla.
They're so small compared to him.
>> Okay. How much damage did that do to Godzilla?
And Okay. Okay. Hey, it just made it angry. Okay.
You got this. You got this.
Okay. They only have the two minds, right?
It really didn't seem like the first one did anything. Oh, okay.
>> It's in the mouth.
>> No. Oh, so maybe that would have worked, but it's not going off.
There we go. There we go. Oh my gosh.
This boat is going to go down, though.
>> They're fine.
>> I mean, I don't think it's dead.
>> Wait, is it healing itself?
>> It can heal itself that quickly? Wait, that's insane.
Oh, there's really like nothing you can do to it. Oh no.
Oh, wow. Wow. Wow. Wow. Wow.
Would that be enough firepower to take it out? Maybe. But we just saw it heal itself very quickly.
That's still fine.
Wow. Oh, it's about to take this whole ship down.
Yeah, even that giant ship couldn't take Godzilla down.
Oh, I mean, it seems to be injured.
It's glowing.
Did they just like blast through that ship somehow?
Oh yeah, Godzilla is fine. Oh, Godzilla is fine.
>> Yeah. I don't I don't know if we can take him down. I don't know if that's possible.
Government isn't telling the public.
It's been years at this point.
mechanics who died.
It's going to feel responsible for them, for their deaths.
And it's giant.
I mean, now you're able to provide for her, provide for the child, not a dream. This is real.
Dang. He's already going through so much emotionally and now we have to also worry about Godzilla.
Yeah. I mean, like, look at this life you've created. Like, you're meant to be here.
>> Good.
Oh my gosh. Godzilla's about to attack you.
>> You might not have a chance to report it. You might be going down.
I don't know if this is going to stop it.
Still moving.
Oh yeah, Godzilla is almost here.
He has come ashore.
Is she at work? Like, is she about to die?
Keep running, people. Keep running. Keep running.
I'm so worried for you. I think you're about to die.
>> Okay. I expected there to be a crash, but they're just stuck there.
Oh my gosh. Yeah. They're like just stuck. They won't be able to move.
>> Uhhuh. That is Godzilla.
Oh, he is huge.
And and she's right there in Godzilla's path.
Oh my gosh. Oh, you better hold on.
No. No.
No. Is it? Okay. Okay. I'm glad you landed in water, guys. All of that.
Okay. It didn't land on you. Oh, thank goodness.
>> Wow. Took that whole building out with its tail.
>> The visuals are so great in this. Like, this is just like terrifying to watch.
It all looks so real.
>> Stand up, please. Stand up, please.
Oh, good. Come on. Come on. Come on.
>> Oh, I feel like nowhere in the city is safe.
That doesn't even seem to be doing anything to it.
>> Did they get it? No, they did not get it. There's no way.
No, we're about to watch it just blast this whole city.
Oh my gosh.
That's like a nuclear weapon essentially. I mean, look at that blast.
Oh, it's going to kill them all.
Does she pushed him out of the way? Does that mean he survived or he will survive? She definitely just died though.
She just saved your life.
Everyone there just died.
>> Dang. For a second there, I I just completely forgot about Godzilla. But yeah, of course he's still here. Wow.
Dang.
30,000 killed.
radiation. Yeah. I mean, that's like a nuclear blast.
>> Oh, yeah. Of course, she wants her mom. I mean, like, she doesn't know what's going on.
I imagine he would.
Oh. Oh.
How long could it survive underwater?
Maybe it could survive down there a long time.
Fill it with the power of the sea.
I mean, I just wouldn't be surprised if this didn't kill it. We have seen it withstand so much.
Hey, what's plan B?
Oh, okay. Okay. So, we're going to try to kill it with pressure.
Yeah. Some people won't help, which I understand. I mean, they've already been through so much. They've all already lost so much.
It's one way to look at it.
>> They're going to do it.
Be back within 10 days.
Oh, you would do that.
Guess he needed to figure out his own life stuff before committing to her. But now they aren't going to have that chance.
I don't have much time. Godzilla might be here soon.
Oh.
Oh, jeez. Jeez. Louise, you found you.
Let's just talk. Let's just talk about this.
He was trying to get your attention and it worked.
So, you would die in the process.
Yeah.
Dang. I mean, honestly, that's the only thing that seems like it would actually work.
Dang. So, he's the only one who knows what you're planning on doing.
You're happy this time. They'll make a difference.
Making it right.
Oh, seems like Godzilla is close.
Tomorrow, a battle to live for the future.
Yeah, I think they want you to live.
Trying to protect you.
Give you the future. Oh, that's a that's a powerful line. Yeah. They want you to survive. They want you to live.
Poor thing. I mean, she already lost her parents as a baby. Then she lost her mother. I mean, she became her mother.
She's going to lose her dad, too.
The bomb you ordered. Wow.
Me. Of course, that totally makes sense.
Still have all of those photos.
Yeah, he's already gone.
use this money for her.
Tang, I mean, he's doing all of this to save you so that you all have a chance to live the fish.
Oh. Oh, here we go. Oh my gosh. It just threw that ship. That's a huge ship.
Okay. Okay. Things are starting.
It's time. It's go time.
Okay, here we go.
Well, he has his own plan.
>> Dang.
I hope they're all Dang it. Ah, I was hoping everyone would get out of there, but they didn't.
That was close.
Oh. Oh. Oh, it's getting in the water.
>> How fast can these things go?
Oh.
Oh, this is about to be bad. We've seen what you can do.
>> Okay, it's empty. It's empty. Okay.
Okay.
Wow.
You look terrifying.
Okay. I mean, how much time do we have?
Oh my gosh, that's terrifying. Every time we get close to it.
Oh, there we go.
Guess I not see those things.
Oh gosh. Oh gosh.
>> Now. Now.
>> Oh. Oh. Okay.
>> Is this going to work? Oh, it's working.
Oh my gosh. It's working.
>> Okay. Wow. Oh, what's really going down there?
Oh. Oh. OH.
>> I don't know. I don't think it's dead.
>> Yeah. Is it just going to pull the ships down?
Plan >> B.
All right. It's coming back up. Yeah. I think he's going to have to fly in. I don't think this is going to work.
Oh, >> it chewed through them.
No. Okay. Yeah. So, plan A and plan B are not working.
We're doing our best to help.
They don't want you to die. I guess they really they really do need your help.
>> Wow.
The useless to the rescue.
>> Let's catch a Godzilla.
Oh, I hope we don't all die.
is rising again.
>> Oh, here we go.
>> But it very much appears to be alive and angry.
Oh. Oh, no.
>> It's not damaged enough. No.
No.
Oh, that's terrifying.
They're all about to die.
Oh, just the silence. Jeez.
Oh, he's coming in. He's coming in just in time.
He's doing it so that you all can live.
Oh, he's going to do it just in time.
Wow.
Jeez, that scared me.
Dang. Did that blow its head off? Or is it still alive even after all of that?
>> Wait, did he not die?
>> I did not expect that.
>> Oh, even after everything he said about like all of them dying because of you.
Oh, I mean, yeah, it looks like the head is blown off. Whoa.
Wow.
Oh, wow. Okay. Yeah. Yeah. I would say Godzilla is dead.
And you were able to survive after all.
And literally all of them survived because you did that.
Wow.
Okay. Yeah. I would say that Godzilla is dead. Wow.
>> The the telegram. Wait, what does it say?
What does the telegram say?
She alive. How? I mean, I'm so glad. But how finally over? Yeah.
Oh my gosh, they actually all get to be together. I thought I thought for sure that that would never happen.
My gosh, I'm so glad you're alive. What did it Did it look like something was spreading on her neck? Is Godzilla alive? No.
No. Is that how is that how the movie ends? So Godzilla is still alive. Wait, no. That's such an ominous ending. I feel like that ending was so satisfying.
So sweet. But no. Oh, now it's just a Now I CAN'T EVEN SPEAK. WHAT? WHAT WORD AM I LOOKING FOR? OMINOUS. OMINOUS.
THAT'S THE WORD. THAT'S the word I'm looking for. Okay, now I see why this movie can have a sequel. because uh because of that ending. Wow. I thought for the longest time that this was just a standalone movie, but I realize now it's definitely can be setting up more.
I mean, for one, that bruise, I don't even know. It looked like it was spreading. It was spreading very rapidly. So, I don't know if that was a result of radiation. I don't know. I don't know what that could be, but I imagine they would explore that in the sequel. And also uh right at the end we're seeing that Godzilla very much is alive which makes sense. I mean we saw time and time again throughout this movie how it could heal itself and heal itself rapidly. But there at the end I mean it looked like it wouldn't be able to survive because it was like it exploded from the inside out essentially. But no. Um Godzilla is fine. Okay. That's terrifying. I mean what can they even do in the sequel to defeat it? It seems like it honestly seems like it can't be defeated. Wow.
Okay. So, this is my first Godzilla movie and I'm definitely interested to find out more about Godzilla or and like how Godzilla is portrayed in other mediums because I mean this one is set towards the end of World War II and like the aftermath of World War II. I thought that Godzilla wasn't set at that time in everything. And maybe it's unique to World War II in this one. I don't want to look up too much about other Godzilla movies cuz I want to like explore it on my own and see other portrayals portrayals of Godzilla. But I loved that this setting was at the end of World War II because I feel like there's just so much emotional depth that comes with that time, especially I imagine in Japan. And I mean, we're seeing a former kamicazi pilot and like everything that he was going through with himself and also like how society and other people treated him. So I feel like there's just like so much emotional depth just being set at this time. So yeah, I'm curious when the other Godzilla movies take place because I I imagine that just the time period it can just like affect characters so differently. But yeah, I mean this movie has it like obviously is a monster movie. It is a Godzilla movie, but it has just so much emotional weight. And I think that's what that's what really stood out to the movie for me. I mean, we're like following these characters. I've already mentioned like what he was going through emotionally and like of course the whole time he's feeling that guilt, that shame, but then he's able to turn it around and well, we think he fully sacrificed himself so that everyone had a chance to live. But then we see at the end, I don't know.
This movie took you on an emotional roller coaster because you think he's sacrificing himself and then we found out he survives. We think that oh I don't remember her name but we think that she died there in the blast. I mean she pushed him away. We thought that she like died saving him and then to find out she survived at the end. I still don't know. I still don't know how she survived at the end but I'm so glad she did. So yeah, this movie just takes you on an emotional roller coaster. I'm so excited for the sequel to come out. I mean, I think I think I saw it's coming out in November. Yeah, we'll release in November of this year. So, I'll be able to watch it, I imagine, a few months after that once it comes to streaming.
But now, I'm so excited for this because I feel like this movie set up a sequel so well with the bruise, with Godzilla surviving. Yeah, there's still so much we can explore with this. Also, with this movie, it was so stunning visually.
I mean, Godzilla looked so great, but all of the the damage and the like fight sequences and just everything about it was just visually stunning. It all looked so real. It looked so believable.
This says here that the budget was only 10 million. And I feel like visually it looks even better than some movies that have a budget, I don't know, 10 times the size of their budget. So, I don't know how they were able to do all of that with a $10 million budget, but it visually it was just stunning. I also just really loved how they whenever they were like trying to come up with a plan to of like how the heck do we defeat Godzilla? I I don't remember the exact words they said, but they were originally like in the war were fighting to the death, but now they're fighting like for people to live, for people to survive. They're they're fighting for the future, whatever. I I can't remember the quote. I love the line. He said something about Rick. I I don't remember what the line was. It was something about the future. Ah, I can't find it.
But I just love how like the focus like all of them showing how all of them were working together and were like excited about fighting for the future. Yeah, I just thought this was be that was beautiful. Yeah, I really enjoyed this movie. I was really impressed by this one and now I'm like interested to see how Godzilla is portrayed in other movies as well. Yeah, I mean I don't know. This one was just so good and I already just can't wait for the sequel to come out. Let me know your thoughts on this movie. I I really just love this one. I thought it was so well done.
Yeah, I'm I'm probably going to be thinking about this movie for a long time. Well, thank you for watching. Be sure to like and subscribe and I will see you next time.
