[00:00:00]All right, our presentation is on fast food. Yeah. All right, so fast food over the years. The first instance of fast food was back in 1921 uh >> [snorts] >> with the introduction of White Castle.

[00:00:11]Now, even though White Castle was labeled as fast food, uh it wasn't very fast and the meat was also dirty and nasty.

[00:00:19]It was also nicknamed the mystery meat.

[00:00:22]That's like that's not good. No, I'm not going to lie. Uh it wasn't till 1940s and 50s that fast food exploded in popularity around the US.

[00:00:31]Restaurants like McDonald's and Burger King were known to bring the most attention to the fast food chain. Oh, and as well, as today, fast food is all over the US and the rest of the world.

[00:00:41]Fast food has changed the way people can go out and eat and for and eat, chill, sit with friends, family.

[00:00:48]Instead of sitting in a restaurant for an hour, you get a quick meal that takes like 10 minutes, 5 minutes tops. Like Taco Bell, Chick-fil-A, McDonald's, and get the food in an instant. All right, competition in fast food. Competition has always been a thing in the fast food industry.

[00:01:01]Whether it's them racing towards the top of the fast food chart or seeing who can have the most customers. If it wasn't for competition, there would be no reason to improve. So, the overall food quality would also probably just be low.

[00:01:14]And pretty bad.

[00:01:16]Now, you can see right here um the competition.

[00:01:20]Uh I don't know when this was. I think this is like maybe a year or two ago, but see McDonald's [music] has got the most. Starbucks is right here.

[00:01:27]Uh Subway. Uh this place in New York ice cream is actually some Chinese place.

[00:01:32]So, I don't even know why this is here, but anyways, that's kind of what it looks like overall.

So, this ensures the customer can order without any issues, whether like interpretations or even if the customer has social anxiety. And the one of the one of the ways was uh simply order at the counter.

[00:02:03]And as well, the drive-thru. The first ever drive-thru was placed place called Red Giant Hamburg in 1947.

[00:02:11]But it wasn't till In-N-Out made made one in 1948 that it became a popular way to order.

[00:02:17]The drive-thru helped a lot a lot when it came came to drive food on the go.

[00:02:22]I can't read. Other ways you can order is from the kiosk. As you can see, here's David ordering at McDonald's.

[00:02:29]The kiosk started being used in the 2010s.

[00:02:32]This gave customers the ability to order food without [music] talking to anyone.

[00:02:37]Um the other way is on the app. Fast food apps started being used around 2009, with the first ever being Starbucks.

[00:02:46]Uh This gave customers the opportunity to be able to order from home, um or for like like for pick-up order like >> three. Woohoo! All right, so there's also been a lot of trends in fast food.

[00:02:59]Um over years, there has been many instances where certain trends occur all over the internet on platforms like TikTok and YouTube. Some of the most famous ones were the Grimace Shake trend back in 2003.

[00:03:11]>> [snorts] >> Uh as you can see in that picture, uh it's kind of hard to explain. You had to be there. You just have to be there to know. Um And also uh recently, the Arby's Meat Mountain with Rod Wave trend. Let's get married. Yeah, that that was a disaster. Fast food martials, there are multiple fast food locations in Martinsville such as McDonald's, Bojangles, Little Caesars, Chipotle, Chick-fil-A, and more.

[00:03:36]But all but that's the currently working on a Zaxby's.

[00:03:43]Huh? 2026 is it built like something like near the end? Yeah. Yeah, something like that. Something like that. Yeah.

[00:03:48]Your favorites. So, if you remember, we went around, we experimented with a vote for y'alls top five favorite fast food restaurants in Martinsville.

[00:03:55]And after 60 plus votes, here are the results.

[00:04:01]>> [laughter] >> All right, so here you can see all the results. Um Pizza Hut with no votes, Burger King only has one, KFC only has two, and then we have the other ones. Little Caesars, we got uh what's that, nine?

[00:04:16]But let's talk about the top five.

[00:04:18]Coming in number five, Bojangles.

[00:04:21]Bojangles was ranked number five on the list with 18 votes. Bojangles was founded on July 6th, 1977.

[00:04:27]First ever restaurant was built in Charlotte, North Carolina. The most famous item from the from the place is the Cajun Chicken Fillet Biscuit.

[00:04:36]Bojangles in Martinsville. So, the Bojangles located in Martinsville, uh Virginia, was built in 1996. [music] It being next to Sports Lanes is convenient for anyone who who's in the mood for chicken at the bowling.

[00:04:48]But other than that, that's really much.

[00:04:50]That's all there is to say about that place. But it's good though, they're good.

[00:04:57]Yeah, we're rolling. We're over here at Bojangles for the first place. This was ranked five with how many votes?

[00:05:06]But um we're going to do the number one item for our Bojangles, which was >> Chicken. The Cajun Chicken.

[00:05:14]So, the there's a bug in our bag.

[00:05:20]All right, so this here is the Bojangles Cajun Biscuit. It's supposed to be the most popular biscuit they got.

[00:05:26]It was made They made They introduced it back in 1984.

[00:05:31]And it used to be $2.29 back then. But now the year 2026 had increased to $4.39.

[00:05:37]That's a 92% increase over over the the years. Wow.

[00:06:03]Shut up, all right, so there was actually a tie on the vote. McDonald's, Chipotle, and Taco Bell all tied for second place with somehow with 32 votes.

[00:06:12]Uh to fix this, I've used the internet ratings so each restaurant can have their own place. Well, coming in at number four is McDonald's. McDonald's was originally found on May 15th, 1940 in San Bernardino, California.

[00:06:24]It was until 1954 that Ray Kroc took it took it in his own hands to expand the place across all America.

[00:06:30]And the most famous famous item is a tie between french fries and a big and a Big Mac.

[00:06:35]All right, so McDonald's in Martinsville, um there is four four separate locations in Martinsville, Virginia.

[00:06:44]While the construction date of all four of these are not online somehow, um it is still crazy to think that there is four in such a small town like Martinsville.

[00:06:54]Um I don't know how this got in the top five. It is good, but Yo, don't talk about McDonald's, man.

[00:07:01]McDonald's is All right, so the best selling um item at McDonald's is the fries and the Big Mac.

[00:07:08]So the Big Mac was introduced It was introduced in um 1967.

[00:07:16]Um Yeah, and now it is $5.79, which is a whopping 1,200% increase. Holy moly. Yeah, and then the fries were introduced in 1949. [music] They used to be $0.10. Now they cost $3.00 and I think a whopping $3.19. And that's a whopping 3,100% increase.

[00:07:57]All right, that's pretty good. It's pretty good, you know. Coming in number three, Taco Bell. Taco Bell was founded on March 31st, 1962 in Downey, California. The most famous item on the menu is a Crunchwrap Supreme and Nacho Fries.

[00:08:15]There are two separate locations in Martinsville. The one that is located near Little Caesars does not have a guaranteed date when it was built, but the one near Chick-fil-A actually started construction in February 2008 and it was open to the public in 2012.

[00:09:45]Chipotle was originally founded on July 13th, 1993 in Denver, Colorado. The most popular item on the menu is a chicken burrito bowl. Chipotle in Martinsville.

[00:09:56]The Chipotle in Martinsville is the most recent addition to fast food in Martinsville. It was constructed and opened on January 28th, 2026. All right, we're at Chipotle now.

[00:10:10]All right, so the most popular item at Chipotle is the chicken burrito bowl.

[00:10:14]It was introduced back in 2005. And back then it was only like $6.50 on the menu.

[00:10:21]But now in 2026 it cost a whopping $11.

[00:10:25]That's like 69% increase in the past 22 years.

[00:11:13]Chick-fil-A was first founded in 1967 in Atlanta Greenbriar Shopping Center. Whatever that is. The most most popular item on the menu is the original chicken sandwich.

[00:11:36]Chick-fil-A in Martinsville. The Chick-fil-A in Martinsville began construction around 2012 based off of Google Earth.

[00:11:55]All right, last location is Chick-fil-A, I and the winner that voted out every other place and hopefully it's the best one. All right, so the best selling item at Chick-fil-A is the chicken sandwich. Um it was introduced back in 1967.

[00:12:13]That was actually um that was actually back when Chick-fil-A was founded. So it was the first thing they really had. Um back then it costed 59 cents. Wow.

[00:13:00]Fast food is used in our lives all the time. Now you might look at that as a bad thing considering how unhealthy some can be, but overall it is a very useful thing to have.
