The attempt to frame a standard middle school recital through the lens of "Compound Meter" is a pedantic over-intellectualization of a simple milestone. It’s a classic case of using academic jargon to give a routine school event an unearned sense of gravity.

Here comes the pizza.
Go.
Good evening.
>> Good evening and welcome to our sixth grade spring concert. We're going to start with our percussion ensemble and concert band this evening. I want to thank you all for coming out. Um, this will be for some of you >> our last concert in the auditorium as it exists now, which I'm very grateful for as we're being graced by some flashing lights over here. We're actually going through a full renovation of the auditorium this summer. So, we're going to have a great space to host concerts for next year. Really excited about it.
Um, so enjoy the final concert in the Northley Auditorium as we know. Um, this is the percussion ensemble. This is the first time that we have a sixth grade performing a percussion ensemble piece at a spring concert. They've done a great job with some mess challenging material and I hope you enjoy it. This is called Pathfinder.

That piece was entitled Starfire March.
Uh the great thing about that was we were able to get the students into reading Compound Meeting. So if you're if you know anything about music, we uh typically play a lot of music. The pop music that you hear is a 44, two, four, three, four, where the subdivided beat is in two. Well, you heard that was actually subdivided in three. That's called compound meter. They're actually reading 68 time. And to do that a sixth grade is at that level is really a great job. They've done a great job with that.
Our next piece is entitled Celtic Air and Dance.

W that was entitled Dark Start. Um we had some students who participated with the PMBA grade five six band fest and that was actually one of the songs that they performed as an honor band on their concert and I it was a lot of fun. I know the kids really enjoyed it so we uh decided to add it to our concert as as a band start our fin before we get to our final piece I want to thank our administration administration Mr. Shabbo, Miss Chair, uh, Miss Vera for their, uh, continued support in what we do. The upper administration, Dr. Steinhoff, Dr. Ka, the school board of directors. Really, we're we're we're so supportive here at Pendulko and are able to provide all these great programs. You heard the steel pans earlier this evening. Please give them a round of applause. They're awesome.
So we are we are certainly able to provide such a great music education to all of our students in Kandelko. Um our final piece is entitled to Angane. It's a it's a piece based on uh the Swahili phrase means let's join together. It's a fun upbeat piece and we hope you enjoy it.
You got it.

At the hour of the whisper, at the moment of a dream, the silence will still the darkness.
At the at the whisper and the moon of a tree the silence and silence was still us.
The shadows sing the night between us and the victory.
As life fades away, the shadows come.
Journey the night with me.
Journey, journey, journey, journey, journey, journey.
Good evening. Thank you for joining us for the spring concert. Um, I like to start with music usually because I like to let the music do the talking.
We're going to let the music do the talking.
Um, our next piece is a French Canadian folk song. So, you'll hear them singing some uh words in French and some in English. This is called and that means I hear the windmill. So, part of this song is just them imitating the sound of the windmill. So, when you hear them saying tick tick kataka, that's imitating the sound of a windmill. So, um, take a trip to French Canada with us.
Jump to the moon and jump to the moon and talk. Sh.
I hear the windmill tick tock. I windmill.
I windmill.
I wind tick tick tick tock. I wind tick tock. I feel la to the moon and tick jump to the moon.
La to the jump to the jump to the jump to the That one's tricky because it's fast and also tricky for the pianist. That's quite an accompiment to play. So, I would like to thank my friend John Kramer for joining us.
I have had the pleasure of hosting um two great student teachers from the Westchester University over the course of this semester. The next piece is going to be conducted by our current um student teacher who will be who will be graduating um next Friday or Saturday.
>> Next Saturday. Um this is Miss Natalie Harrison and she's going to conduct Flyway Home.
Wow.
I'll ride with the horses.
I'll swim through the sea.
I'll climb to the mountain tops.
Won't you come follow me?
I'll take time to notice all that I see.
And after I come so far, you know where I'll be.
Way home.
Fly away.
My way home.
That's how it should be.
The world is a choices are free.
At the end of the journey and all is complete.
Wonder where I come.
You know where I'll be.
Fly away.
Fly away home.
My way.
My way home.
Our dreams last forever.
The roads come together and that's where we'll go.
My way.
Highway fly away. Fly away. Fly away.
So, one of the things about sixth grade is starting to get our gentlemen, our teners to have their own part in some of the pieces. So that was one of the pieces where they had their own part. So hopefully in that last few choruses you can hear the three different sections doing a flyway part. This next piece is a gospel rock setting of the traditional spiritual Joshua fit the battle of Jericho. Um this one's a lot of fun. So please enjoy.
and lightning. Oh, so very frightening just like all around.
There was no denying that the walls in Jericho they were tumbling down with the battle with the battle and the walls they came tumbling Joshua melody.
How could they be knowing that your name was going down in history?
Oh, so very frightened with lighting all around.
There was no denying that the walls of Jericho were to the battle in the battle. In the wall they came and tumbled it down.
Joshua how they be knowing that your name was going down in history.
There was no denying also very down. They came on tumbling down.
Thank you so much for coming out again tonight. I know it's warm in here. I can't even imagine if the weather was warmer outside. Um we're fortunate that it's a pool evening. Um they've been a pleasure to work with this year and I'm really excited to see what they do as they grow as seventh graders next year.
Um and because in seventh grade they perform with the eighth graders together. So the music will be a step up for them. They have a lot of musical ability and I can't wait to see what they do with it over the next few years of middle school. Um, our last song is what is known as an accumulative song.
So, think about like uh the 12 days of Christmas where you keep adding something on. So, this is Hiho the Ratman, and we're going to keep adding things to the bog. So, this is Hi Ho the Ratman. Um, and thank you for coming.
I walk down in the valley in the valley.
Now in this tree, a rare tree in the valley and walk down in the valley.
