Social media platforms reinforce negative behaviors through click-based rewards, creating a cycle where harassment and abusive content receives more attention and becomes more likely to be repeated, as demonstrated by a cyberpsychologist from the University of Wollongong who explains this as Pavlovian conditioning where outrageous and abusive content gets more clicks and likes, increasing the likelihood of such behavior recurring.

Gang of teens on e-bikes surround and taunt womenAjouté :
I would say have a really close look at yourself in the mirror because one day you will not be a teenager. One day you are going to be an older man and you are going to look back at this behavior and you will have regret.
>> A group of women and girls on a women's history walking tour in Wollongong have been allegedly surrounded and harassed by a gang of teenage boys on e-bikes.
>> They surrounded the group and started asking if they could join the tour. When the guide said no, they continued to push and heckle. They didn't stop. When the women moved away, the boys followed.
They mocked them, they harassed them.
Someone in the tour eventually called the police. The teenage girls on the tour were the least shocked of all. They felt like this was completely normal behavior. It makes me feel sad that this type of behavior is so expected.
>> Despite the social media ban for children, a cyberpsychologist with the University of Wollongong says teenagers are still being influenced by social media.
>> It's what gets clicks gets reinforced and unfortunately if there's a negativity bias there, the outrageous, the angry, the abusive, it does get more attention. It gets more clicks, it gets more likes. This is a This is simple Pavlovian conditioning. That behavior gets rewarded, that behavior gets more.
The odds of it happening again are higher and higher and higher.
