You Won’t Believe What We Found in UK Rock Pools (Not What You Expect)!Added:
I found a starfish.
Three, four.
Snail. It looks like it's got a galaxy on its back. It's really, really cool.
So, we are out for Dave rock pooling.
But today, we've got all the kit and we're looking for very teeny, tiny things.
Luckily, I've got a local expert who knows his stuff better than anyone.
Hi, Skye. These are the twins and they're six and this is Logan.
Hi, Logan. This is Geo. He's the man that knows these pools better than anyone. I found something. Hello, buddy.
Thank you so much for this. Yes. No worries.
Oh, man, I'm so, so happy right now.
What have you got? I flipped this stone and found an orange clubbed sea slug, which is already really cool and it's going to look really cool zoomed in. And then I looked over here and there was some light bulb sea squirts and I thought, "Ah, there's an animal that likes to eat these sea squirts that I've seen once." So, I started looking around. I wonder if it's here. And I looked over there. I've moved them over here so you can see them better. That is a candy stripe flatworm. If you look If you look closely, ah, it looks incredible. The way that it moves is so hypnotic as well.
>> gosh, it's beautiful. Can you see that?
No. Is it that little one?
We can get >> Shape What What has that round shape?
That little one? Yes. Yes, this one here. Yes. This? It looks very much like a sea slug. And then, whilst I was sat here, and there it is.
Oh, wow. Oh my gosh, that's beautiful.
>> They're really cool as well. What? Look at that.
>> you see here, they can get really big.
Look at Look Look at that.
There it is.
Wow.
Look what I found. Oh, wow.
It It does look like a mushroom. This is the holdfast of sea spaghetti.
So, [music] this is a fabulous place to go looking for sea slugs.
Uh and that's what attracted me really here. I saw Gia's Instagram page, which is covered with the most beautiful shots of stunning stunning teeny tiny sea slugs.
But, some of the most beautiful things you could ever imagine and in rock pools that we go through all the time and never see them.
So, coming down with an expert eye on our side is is what we need.
See, they look like little stars.
But, they're not related to stars. They just look very similar to them.
We're looking for animals and we've got lots so far.
But, we haven't got to my favorite one yet.
But, we're still finding animals and I bet we're going to find it.
What are you looking for, Ella?
I'm looking for anything.
>> [laughter] >> The kids are all beating me at the moment cuz they've got starfish and sea hairs and um sea slugs are something I've never really um engaged in before or really noticed. So, I'm interested in um yeah, finding one of them. Don't really know what I'm looking for cuz I think they're so tiny. Kit, have you had any luck yet?
What? Have you got a little starfish?
Fish. That was the find of the day so far, really. I found a starfish. Oh my gosh, Kit, look at that.
Tiny. Hey, I found a starfish.
That is a teeny tiny little starfish, isn't it? Well done.
Do you want to pop it in here?
I've got the pot.
Okay, I'll put starfish in. Yeah?
It's realistic, isn't it?
No, what was it you said you wanted to see this morning? I wanted to see a starfish. Oh, really? Yes, [laughter] There it is. There it is, right there.
Be really, really gentle with it.
You want to pop him in the pot? It looks like my hand. It does. It looks the same size as well.
>> They're way bigger than this one.
You want to put him in there as well?
It's quite stuck.
You like rock pooling, Logan? Yeah. What do you like about it?
I like the thousands of animals that make their home in the rock pools and the possibilities are endless. Found a crab. Oh my gosh, these are [music] very, very special rock pools. So much going on. It's kind of it's tricky to go Well, I'm going to ignore that crab and I'm going to ignore that anemone and all the things that you normally focus on and just look for the little colorful stuff.
And if you zoom in on it, it looks like it's got like [music] a galaxy on its back. It's really, really cool. I'm so glad, honestly, the species we've found today have been really cool.
Wow.
What is it doing? Two starfishes and a brittle star.
Put that one in there. Can we put this one in this one? You can, but we have got quite a lot of sea of little starfish in there now.
You're okay. You can put one in.
>> [laughter] >> I still can't believe about the flatworm.
Very, very cool stuff.
