Senior dogs with chronic conditions like arthritis and skin growths require ongoing veterinary care including anti-inflammatory medications (such as Novox and gabapentin), regular monitoring of suspicious growths, and proper wound treatment; effective pain management often involves adjusting medication dosages to balance relief with activity levels, while managing skin conditions may require specialized cleaning protocols and patience during recovery.

Cerbs is Injured 🐾Added:
Okay, we are headed to the van serves. is going to get his arthritis shot and we have to have him looked at to be careful cuz Duke is back there somewhere. Where you at, Duke?
We have got lots of puddles today. There he is.
He's moving. He's like, "Oh, she she on me." There he goes. Okay, we have finally gotten rain. We've gotten about an inch, I think. Let me see.
Nope. Mr. Fiber emptied the rain gauge from yesterday. Yesterday was a half an inch.
And over the last few days, I believe we've had an inch and a half.
So, we're going to we're going to have some squishy road. I know Mr. Fiverr when he came home yesterday said that it wasn't too bad our dirt road.
But anyway, I've got to take him in because the skunk messed him up pretty bad.
His whole face.
So, it's been kind of I've been a little worried about him. Anyway, okay. I'll let y'all know. And yes, I'm flushing.
It's not as hot as it was before, but the stress isn't helping.
Hallelujah.
Hey, hey, hey.
Hallelujah.
Hello.
Okay.
Okay, so little story about what happened.
I believe it was Monday.
today. So, just for reference, today is Wednesday, the 27th of May, 2026.
And I believe it was on Monday cuz Mr. Fiverr was off work because of Memorial Day. Monday was Memorial Day.
We went we went walking. It was early.
It was cooler and cooler and warnings equal skunk.
And I had told Mr. fiber. I said, you know, the thing is getting where I don't want to go because of the skunks.
Anyway, we got all the way around the pasture, all the way to the other end, and that's where I had seen the skunk a few days before.
And a few days before, sorry, I got a new deal for my phone.
So, I'm messing with it.
It's a lot steadier, though. This is from Canvas. So, if you're considering a Canvas, if you see it on Facebook or on Instagram and you're like, or Tik Tok, I don't even know if they're on Tik Tok anyway. Um, if you see the canvas products, get them. They are so worth it. Find a sale, whatever you got to do, but get them because they are amazing.
The magnets are amazing. Everything's amazing. I'm not sponsored. I don't even have a coupon code for you. Nothing. All I'm saying is I really like it.
We came around the other end of the pasture and that's where I had seen the skunk a few days before and Duke had gone in and I could see the tail up in the air and he got sprayed and I wouldn't let him in for a couple of days because he got sprayed. But I was able to grab Cus and keep him from getting in there. That was a few days ago.
But Monday, we came around that corner and both dogs saw the skunk. Now, I thought that Duke had killed the skunk, but evidently not because it was still there.
Yes. Or it was another one.
So, they both went in. Well, they didn't realize it until yesterday.
Well, when we got back, I noticed that Serbs had a tag. He had a new tag that was coming up. He has all of those little tags that are coming up all over his body. Some of them are pink, some of them are gray, some of them start gray and then they turn pink. He's I haven't said a whole lot about it.
I don't know if I'm just putting it to the back of my mind because I don't want to think about the day when it happens, but serves us all that well. We don't really know for sure that he has the C-word.
I know that he is riddled, absolutely riddled with the growths all over his body.
And right now the vet is treating him for one that's on his rear his rear leg, his bad leg, but in his rear on on the top on his hunch just under the under the his back on his hunch.
And that one has grown really quickly.
And so she's a little she said that one is suspicious.
The others she had looked before and had checked each and every one of them at his last checkup. This was last year and even when they got their shots the last time and everything she said looked fine, but this one looked suspicious and he's just got so many of them and now he's getting the skin tags. So he had another skin tag on his right like right around one of his whiskers the side.
Well yes on Monday when he got in that tussle with the skunk it yanked it off.
That skunk had yanked it off and I had seen that and it was bright red because it had yanked the whole thing off.
Well, okay.
Then yesterday, I saw something red on the other side of his face. And his jowl was I call it his jowl, but it's like right under his eye, like his high cheekbone was really thick.
And he he had been injured. It had gotten him. And it's it's puncture got punctured.
Now, the other shots are up to date.
He's not acting funny. He's not acting strange other than in the last, as you all know, he was sick last fall.
He had pancreatitis and he hasn't been the same since he had pancreatitis. He just hasn't been the same.
And in the last month, he's been a little punkier. You know what I'm saying? Like not quite as He's so He's so happy when it's time to go go do stuff. He's Yeah, let's go. He's happy about going and walking and doing that. So, yeah, he's up for it. He's still happy about 8:00 or his treats and that kind of thing.
He's um he gets up in the morning sometimes, you know, when he eats breakfast just not into it. Don't want it. Not hungry.
Then he'll go back at like 1:00 and he'll eat that, but he'll still he's still ready for 3:00, but he's not as enthused about anything as he used to be.
And that really has been ever since he got sick last year. It just took a lot out of him.
It just changed him.
And in the last month to me, he's been low cooking. He's been worse.
He's not been as active. He's not wanted to really be excited about things. So, she's giving him a very It's a It's an expensive shot, more expensive than most. It's for arthritis and it's an anti-inflammatory.
And we're just treating him with that for now.
He gets his painkillers. I'm going to get some more today so that I can start giving them to him three times a day so he can get one in the evening. I think he's like me. his pain builds up from when he gets that painkiller until the next morning and then he's punkier. So, I want to try to give him to him three times a day. We had lowered it's a gabapentin and we had lowered that to the to the smaller dose so that he could have it three times a day and wouldn't be like sleeping all day long because the higher dose was great and he was walking better but he just wanted to sleep all day long and I don't want I want him to be moving around a little bit more than that because you know got to Hang on, Bubby. Mama took Mama took that one just a little too fast. We'll slow down for this one.
I also ordered a retractable leash and Mr. F, well, I'm not going to use that. We're outside. We're You don't There's nothing to worry about. I'm like, I'm not having him get in these tussles with these skunks anymore. I'm just over it. If Duke gets into it, you know, we deal with it. And the problem with Duke is he will not take a bath.
He'll get in the water, not when we ask him to, but when he wants to, he gets in the water. Usually, he'll get in there as Serbs gets in there, but you can't give him a bath. He'll let you towel him off. Well, excuse me, sir.
Duke, Mr. Regal, towing you off doesn't get rid of skunk.
And I feel bad because I want to help him with his face and his eyes and get rid of that sooner, you know, but he won't let me.
He won't let me.
Duke's Duke's so independent.
I mean, you put a leash on him, he goes to the ground.
It stops moving.
We're not going.
The only time I can get him on the leash and get him to go get in the car, go to the vet, do all those things is with is with his brother. We're so We're all doing it. Let's go cuz we're all doing it. And you got maybe one maybe two shots at it because if not, he is so hard to reset. He just does. We ain't reset. No, you had your shot. We ain't doing it again. He's just so hard-headed and so independent. And that's the great Pyrenees in him. It's okay. They're built like that. But you just have to know going forward, you got one shot at it.
But if if he if he knows that we're doing it's a thing we're doing it, then he'll run up that ramp with his brother and he'll go.
It's all about the timing.
And he just won't let me give him a bath. You just I get the hose out, he's gone. We gone.
You come out with something in your hand like shampoo or something, we gone. We gone. Nope. Not doing it.
So, I feel bad for him because on the days when he gets this and it's really really hot, I feel bad because we let him inside when it gets above especially over 90. But when it gets above 80, usually he wants to come in.
He's like, I'm an old guy and it's hot.
I'm coming in.
Okay.
And yeah, I can't get that skunk smell out of the carpet.
It's just there. It wears off eventually. The smell in the house kind of wears out. But so I don't let him in cuz he won't let me give him a bath. And I feel bad cuz I can't help it. Don't want to help him.
So, the I got a retractable leash for this guy and that should help because he can go quite a ways. I I can't remember if it's 75 ft or what it is, but he can go quite a ways to either side.
And I probably will take a little video once we have it. I think it'll be it's Amazon, so I think it's coming today.
Anyway, probably they will clean that out on his cheek and give me something to put on it. Some sort of a sav or something that we can put on it or tell me what I need to get.
He still smells like skunk even though I treat. Now I know everybody says you should do this and you should do that.
Thank you all very much for your input.
I tried all that.
We've done this so many times now that I have a system.
And here's my system. My system is a half a box of baking soda, a half a jug of hydrogen peroxide, warm water to make it dissolve.
I put it all in a big huge cookie bowl, mix it up, and then I take it out and I use my hands. I cut my hands and I put it over his his head, his neck, and I put it on his chest and all that. And eventually I get down to the last bit and I pour it over him and then it gets towed off and I buy it's called Dunk and I buy it off Amazon and it comes in a foam that you spray into a foam and that goes right on the face and it won't hurt his eyes and then there's a spray that you can spray on the rest of his body and He gets doused with those two.
And then later on in the evening when he is completely dried back out, we repeat the process with the Dunk with the foam and the spray.
That's my process.
And even at that, his face for some reason holds on to that smell, the skunk. I guess that's where they get the most sprayed or something. But he his face I'll go give him kiss. I still I smell skunk for like a month after.
Okay y'all, we are almost there.
We are in Haskell, Texas. And it has three times as many people as Knox City.
Says 3,000 and something and Knox City has a thousand and something.
Anyway, I will try to put some pictures in and then I will come back after we have seen the doctor and I'll let you know what she says. We have a lady vet.
We actually have a our our the vet here is a couple. So the husband does the big animals, the cows, the horses, and the wife does the cats, the dogs, and the other in the office.
Okay, we'll be back.
Cerus. Cerus.
Serves.
Cerus. What is it?
Hey, bud. Okay, it's all good. It's all good.
They gave us some spray.
Gentacle.
This is for the wound.
They cleaned it off with the clippers. He was good as gold.
They cleaned everything off. She said to use a warm washcloth with just warm water and then just and just put it on there and get it nice and so um wet because it it gets really sticky and then tight and that increases the pain to that area.
So, yep.
Just turn it around.
He weighs 97 lb.
And for reference, Duke weighs 110.
and is a foot taller.
You're my chunky boy. Just my chunky boy.
So, we're going to go see dad real quick.
We got more. Okay. She said he can have the Novox, which is the anti-inflammatory, twice a day.
He can have the gabapentin three times a day. So, we got more gabapentin.
She gave him a ketamine shot and that will be bring immediate pain down.
And then they gave him something I think it was called Lrella.
He had one of these shots last year when he had a real bad um episode where his back legs he just his back legs he couldn't hold him up when he was peeing because he hurt so bad and he's been all twisted up.
So she said let's let's get that to relax. She said he needs a chiropractor and I said I know but there isn't there are some there are some chiropractors around some animal chiropractors in Abalene she said but I don't think they see dogs now my daughter Carrie took her took Sailor if you remember Sailor she took him to a chiropractor in Lton Oklahoma but I'm not going all the way to Lton Oklahoma for him for for chiropractor that's like now I have to look it up. I want to say it's a couple hours.
It's not it's not that it's not doable.
It's just a hassle. So, I'll talk to Mr. Fiber about it. But anyway, for now, we're not doing that. We did the lella. And that one is like the shots that I get. It's it's like a it's it's not steroid, but it's like a steroid shot that I get. And I told her, I said, "My plan was to get him those shots whenever I get a shot so that I will so that I will remember it.
I've been having to put everything in my phone so that I will remember everything."
Okay, we're going to go see Mr. Fiber.
and say hi to him real quick and then we're going to head home. So again, they cleaned his face. I I'll get you some pictures. It looks a lot better now after they cleaned it. And then I have to give him that spray.
And I think she said that spray has a little bit of steroid in it so that it will help it to clean up quick, you know, much faster, heal much faster. All right. Love y'all.
Have fun today.
