My Ectopic Pregnancy Story | Early Ultrasound, Missed Signs & What I Wish I Knew 💔Added:
My doctor missed an ectopic pregnancy.
So, I had a positive pregnancy test and an ultrasound appointment scheduled for around 12 weeks, which is very normal. I ended up having some bleeding. At first, it was super light and then it was heavy. Of course, I [clears throat] told my doctor all this. He said they can't do anything, but that it sounds like a miscarriage. So, I went in for an appointment, I think the next day, and she told me and my husband, "Sounds like a miscarriage. Sorry, but let's do some blood work to confirm." We get my lab results back, my hCG levels. They were kind of normal. Doctor said, "Let's just track them. They'll go down." Two days later, I went back. My hCG levels had risen, but not doubled in 2 days. So, my OB tells me, "Looks like you're still pregnant." I get my hCG levels drawn again. Same thing. They've increased, but not doubled. I start telling my doctor, "I feel like something's wrong.
I really want to come in." And she keeps saying, "You must still be pregnant."
And that's just not sitting right with me because they aren't doubling.
Finally, they get me in for an ultrasound about a week and a half later. The ultrasound tech gets silent.
I ask if there's a baby. She said she's not seeing anything, but I need to talk to the doctor. So, I'm waiting in the room for the OB. I have my 9-month-old with me, by the way. And I just get this intense pain. I'm pretty much hunched over. Once the OB comes in, I tell her, "I'm so sorry. I just need to tell you I'm in so much pain right now. I'm blacking out." She looks at me and says, "Based on your ultrasound, you have an ectopic pregnancy. And from what you're telling me, it just ruptured." The nurses end up taking Annie, and my mom comes and picks me up. I have to go to the ER and get emergency surgery. My OB ended up telling me, "We'll do you right the next time. Sorry."
And she is not my doctor anymore.
