Ambridge serves as a masterclass in how sophisticated people use silence as a weapon of self-destruction. This analysis exposes the tragic irony of a community that shares everything except the truths that actually matter.

CAN ANYONE IN AMBRIDGE JUST TALK TO EACH OTHER
Added:We're all about the archers. I'm Philipper.
>> And I'm Katie.
>> And we're talking about events in Ambridge this week so far. From Sunday the 19th of July to tonight, Tuesday the 1st of July, there will be spoilers.
Katie thought. Is anyone ever going to communicate properly again in Ambridge?
That's why I put in capital letters.
Everyone is communicating so badly. What is going on?
>> What is going on? So bizarre. Really, really odd. I mean, first of all, Harrison and Fallon, then we got Rex and Alice, now we got Chris and Fallon. Just everything is just And also Jolene because Fallon hasn't told her that she wants to jump ship from working at the Bull. No, no, it's it's all going to fall apart. Yeah. And we had all people popping up that we hadn't heard from for quite some time. We'll get on to Elizabeth. I feel we we'll give her time in a bit. But yeah, should we focus first on Alice? Do we do we do that?
Yeah, we can try.
>> Seems just story lines are just pigging out of nowhere all of a sudden. It's Should we move in? Yeah. Right. Okay, cool. I hope he keeps the boat. I really I really like the sound of his boat. I hope he keeps the boat cuz I fear he's going to be back in that boat very quickly. He needs to have his armbands at the ready to get down river as soon as he can. Yeah. I'm not convinced at this relationship at all. No, I don't know if it's a way to make Alice and Chris realize that they really do want to get back together cuz I still want them to get back together. I like them together. So yeah, I'm hoping it just kind of it's a bit of a circuitous route, but I am worried it's going to push Chris into Lotty's arms a bit too quickly if he panics then as well and he suddenly jump ship to Lotty.
>> Yeah. Or maybe to Fallon. Maybe he will >> just find a common ground there. I don't know. I mean Chris and Alice. Alice used to consult Chris even if she changed the type of apple she was going to give Martha and now she's not told him that they're moving in. I don't know. Rex just feels like a weak orange squash to me. He's not.
>> He's one of those that you take a sip and you're like, "No thanks."
>> Bless him. I just think it was very out of the blue. She She hasn't had time to discuss it with Chris cuz it just kind of came out of nowhere. I think it was just a Should we move them?
>> Yeah. All right. I I love Rex. He's well intentioned, but I just don't feel he's right for Alice and he's building up this whole family and he's there with his little backpack. I bet he's got, you know, his all his travel accessories fitted in. Little saucepan hanging off that he's taken from the from his boat and definitely got a Leatherman in there and novelty key ring.
>> Yes.
>> Bless him.
>> I don't know. You Alice appeared to clear the air and he said, "Oh, did we need to clear the air?" Yes, Rex, you did. There was so much that he wasn't saying. And he was going on about how beautiful his boat was. I thought it was probably a bit smelly. Not that beautiful. Proper bachelor pad boat.
Like a sock hanging over the side of the boat and Yeah. dirty pants in the river.
>> He's named all the animals that go scamper path and and the beavers come in to have afternoon tea with him when he's there.
>> Absolutely.
>> Have they talked about anything? Have they talked about money? Because Rex was so skinned a few months ago, he couldn't even afford a meal in the bull. Who is going to pay the bills? Is Alice expecting him to contribute? There doesn't seem to be any thought. Yes, they've talked about kids, but they've not talked about how many kids. One of them might want 10, might one of them might want one. I don't know.
>> But there's no discussion.
>> There's been no discussion. Absolutely no discussion. They're not even discussing who's going to cook tomorrow.
It's just kind of let's live together.
It's going to be great. Let's have another baby. I hope they don't rush into that as well.
>> Yes. And I just loved I just knew what was happening, you know, with Chris's confusion about oh, you know, Alice is really happy and oh yes, is it about Martha's Community Award? No, it's Rex and Alice's community award.
>> Yeah. No, I I can't see it lasting, but who knows?
>> Talking about things lasting.
>> I was about to say the same. I wonder who you're going to mention.
>> Yes. Can we imagine? Should she go to the awards ceremony? Yes, she needs to go because if she doesn't go, I don't think he's coming back. And I Well, skipping forward to one of my predictions, I think they're going to go to the awards dinner. And I think Harrison did possibly have a fling with someone up there and she's going to be there. And I'm not sure he's going to return with Fallon or he'll return with her, but then he'll head back again cuz he likes his mates in York better. I think it'll be a real shame because I do like Harrison. I really like Harrison as a character, but I've really not enjoyed listening to Harrison and Fallon since he's come back. Just it puts me on edge and it makes me really sad cuz they were a good couple and they just don't listen to each other anymore and it's all, "Oh, well, I've told you this. I've already said that. We're not listening." And they haven't said stuff and it's horrible.
>> Yeah.
>> They've got no time for each other.
>> Absolutely. And he said, "Oh, I thought we'd be making the most of every moment." Well, you haven't. You haven't been remembering what she said. I don't know if we've heard Fallon not remembering what he said. It seems to be more him not communicating.
>> Yeah, I think it is more a bit on his side, but you can just feel the same with Fallon. It's not She's also on edge with it as well, and she's just not feeling it either. There's It's They're just at each other. It's horrible. I hope it doesn't go on for long cuz it's properly getting to me. I don't like it.
I want everyone to be friends. [gasps] >> But they weren't getting on before and it was sort of a welcome relief for them to be living almost separate lives for a bit. So, I don't know why they think it's suddenly all going to be okay.
There's a lot of work they need to go.
We need the negotiator that Chris and Alice went to. We need >> We need a 10minute counseling session and they'll be fine again cuz that's how it all works out.
>> Sorted. Yeah. The garlic bread's overdone like their emotions and expectations.
>> Also, do you think he left any for Fallon? cuz I was getting really concerned that they were polishing this meal off and they didn't leave anything for Fallon while she was upstairs calling Alice going, "I've just ruined everything."
>> That wasn't the major concern of mine, but you could be right. You know, >> it's a panic.
>> That wouldn't go down well. He's gone on about his carbonara. Bish bos bash. Dear oh dear >> poker. Yes.
>> So, let's come on to this croc or croc or croc barn. What? I know. I've got so many spellings written down because Elizabeth kept saying it and then Fallon said it and it sounded like a totally different word. So, the barn, the events barn that's not Brookfield, we'll go with that. [laughter] >> How are they going to feel about that? I know because at first I thought this is really going to take Brookfield's business because if it's part of kind of Lower Lockley and they've got this whole beautiful backdrop. I mean farms are lovely backdrops as I know for weddings but also stately home backdrops and there's not going to be that many people wanting to get married in Ambridge.
>> But if they do make it an event thing for all the other things that Fallon was mentioning then it could be really good.
I think if it's kind of more of a crafty place and it's an events thing for gigs and parties and things like that, then it could could be slightly different to Brookfield, but they got to be very careful. Couldn't Kate take her yoga there, her spiritual home there, and rent it out at times.
>> There you go. Yeah, that would work. Do one of those hot pod yoga things in the barn.
>> Yeah, >> it's not a barn. It's an event space.
That's >> Sorry, it's a crook cro whatever bar.
And yes, suddenly Elizabeth was back and and this whole thing's being renovated and she's had plans from Fallon.
Fallon's done a pitch and drawn up plans but now has sort of conveniently forgotten. I spent a lot of time thinking, have I missed a week? Have I just somehow [laughter] been on holiday and not not realized and I've missed a week? It seemed quite bizarre. I mean, I'm here for it, but >> I'm glad you feel like that cuz when they started talking about it, I was thinking, what what are we talking about? I don't I think I probably have just totally forgotten about the whole thing, but yeah, who knows?
>> And and then Alan popped up. I mean, it was the return of the the disappeared.
£5 to enter an Ambridge Fate thought.
>> Thought it was a bit steep, but people just don't have cash anymore though either. And I Yeah, it's I get I get paying to go to a fate. That's cool. But you'd kind of expect £250 or something like that. But a five or if you're kind of going as a couple, then that's a tenner. Doing my maths there.
>> Thank you.
>> Good work.
>> But if you [laughter] I've been practicing, I've got it written down.
But if you got a family, then it's it's expensive just to get in and then you're going to be paying for well, you probably then won't be paying for whack-a-ole, dunk the vicar, and all of that. I love a fate. I love all of those little games and all those silly little things. It's so much fun and going for a plowman's and a cream tea, but you're not going to spend all that money if you've already spent however much trying to get in. I don't know how many people pre-book to go to a fate. It's more one of those sort of spurof the- moment things, but also £5 would cover the the cost of a very expensive jar of peanut butter that Harrison bought in the shop.
>> That's very true. Or his padron peppers.
>> Yeah. Which brings me on to the subject of Bert. So, >> I've loved him this week. Really loved him in the shop. I thought it was brilliant. The way he'd missed the gossip and just the way Susan just kind of penned him into the [laughter] behind the counter. Don't touch anything. Don't do anything. Don't breathe.
And then he said, "Am I allowed to touch the sacred card machine?"
[laughter] Thought it was brilliant.
Yeah, I did. I it made me think because when Jim started he was awful and contankerous and difficult and then he mellowed. So because Jim's gone off is has Bert being bought in as the token contankerous going to turn into a nice person, you know, older person. I don't I don't know. Is is that what about?
>> He was certainly better this week.
>> Exactly. I'd rather have Jim back though. I miss Jim.
>> Oh, I know. I know. What clues? What did he tell Carol for this scavenger hunt?
>> Imagine that scavenger hunt.
>> No one's going to do anything. No one will find or solve anything.
>> Everyone will go on their phones and work it out straight away. I'm sure.
>> Don't think they will.
>> Yeah. It's something even AI can't help with.
>> Bless him.
>> Yeah. So Harrison's worried about how Fallon is and also Alice and Rex and Chris is worried about Harrison and Fallon and Rex. I don't know. It just But Alice didn't seem that bothered that Fallon had told Chris. She was just like, you know, I'm sure he expected it.
He knows how well. Won't come as a shock to him. Really, it it's all been so odd. It's a bit like the whole thing with Tom and Kirsty as well. Just the whole communication and how people are reacting and not reacting or overreacting. It's crazy.
>> Very crazy.
>> Just as we need a business consultant in Ambridge, we need a communication consultant.
>> Yes. Well, it could be Martha with her community award. Maybe she's going to be the one that brings everyone back together and everything's all okay again. There you go. So, what's going to happen? There's my prediction. Are they taking her to go on this holiday? Does Rex understand he needs a sparkly pink cup to bring for her? There was no mention of Martha whether she was going or not.
>> No, just leave her at home. Be fine.
Proves he's not really thinking about stuff again. Just go on holiday.
>> Don't know.
>> What about Martha? Who?
>> Flop City. Okay, star of the week.
>> I've got Bert. Never in a million years thought I'd have that. I have struggled a bit this week for stars and and twits because it's not the right word. But >> yeah, who's your star?
>> My star I put no one really, but I'll go for Elizabeth cuz she's back and she's getting this >> event space done without confirming anyone managing it.
Sounds quite expensive as well. Oh well, Twit. We've just got Harrison and Fallon cuz they're not twits really. They're just not communicating and they're not doing well and their relationship is not much longer I don't think. So twit's not the right word but yeah I struggled for twit. You well I put Rex cuz I just think he's being weak. He needs to be stronger. It's what Alice likes and if he has any hope of things working out.
Not convinced but predictions. So I've said about the Harrison one and also I do think that Chris Chris is going to rush into stuff with Lotty but it could be Fallon after you said that. Now that's that's now in my mind cuz if Harrison doesn't come back then Chris may slide in there cuz he hasn't got anywhere to stay at the moment. So could work. And then by the time we come back off our break, Ambbridge will be in disarray cuz no one's listened to anyone else and just all falling apart and everyone's just talking over each other and it's the worst radio show ever because we've not been here to discuss it.
>> And then we'll be back and it'll all be fine. I would really like it if nothing could happen for the next couple of weeks while we're on our summer break.
That would really be helpful if we can just have nothing.
>> Just dead air.
>> That would be great. Yeah. Sorry everyone. Well, my predictions are that Bert will win Village Shop of the Year award in a year's time. That people will prefer to pay £5 for luxury peanut butter than the Fate entry. And that more people will pop up that we haven't heard from in a while. All of them opening up an event space.
>> Definitely. Also, what was going on between Carol and Allan? That was all a bit weird.
>> I know.
>> When they were talking about her son, cuz at first I thought she was going to kiss him and then I thought, oh no, she's talking about her son. What is going on? That totally blew me as well.
Totally confused. I I just didn't see Carl ever agreeing to a religious ceremony of any type. and Allan, you know, sented an opportunity and went in and just it all it all went wrong. But hopefully the entrance of this episode on YouTube won't go wrong and this will be available to watch and to listen to as soon as possible. Please, can nothing happen in the next two weeks? We're going to take a twoe break and a day just because my flight gets in very late. So, we'll be back on Wednesday the 13th of August for more of our madness.
Until then, it's a goodbye from me, >> a letter from me.
>> Goodbye, everyone.
