A tragic backstory serves as a psychological explanation, not a moral absolution for persistent cruelty. This analysis correctly prioritizes interpersonal accountability over the romanticization of toxic defense mechanisms.

I Hate JaxAdded:
You are my play things and I get joy out of making you suffer. I'm the one who causes pain for fun. If I led you on, it was just to make this part hurt you more.
You know, guys, I'll be honest with you.
When The Amazing Digital Circus first came out, I didn't really click with a lot of characters all that well. Like, don't get me wrong, I've rocked with Pomni from the jump, and still to this day, I'm very interested in her character. But when it came to the rest of the cast, I just really didn't find them all that interesting, at least in the beginning. But now that we're eight episodes in and waiting for episode 9, the final act, I can say that my attitude towards a lot of these characters have completely flipped.
Zubo, who I didn't really find interesting whatsoever, has became a personal favorite of mine. And every time I'm going into a new episode, I'm just thinking to myself, man, please give Zuba more screen time because they really deserve it. Hangar became a standout of the show to me, but after the last episode, might I say, he's probably the best character in the entire show in my opinion. And like I said earlier, I've always been rocking with Pomni. Yeah, most of the characters in the circus have all come to grow on me, and I've come to appreciate them all in different ways. But there is one character in this show that honestly I just don't like. No matter how much I try, no matter how much I give them a chance, I just cannot find the appeal of them. And every time they're on screen, I get annoyed. And that character is none other than Jax. I don't really engage with the amazing digital circus fandom online. So, from the outside looking in, I thought Jax was a really beloved character that a lot of people were really interested in. So, you can imagine my surprise the other day when I posted a Tik Tok talking about how I don't really like Jax's character and that he's pretty corny and annoying. and over 40,000 people liked it with tons of people in the comments talking about how much they agreed and how much they didn't like Jax's character. And while disliking a character doesn't always have valid reasons, I actually do feel like there are very valid reasons that we see all throughout the series as to why people wouldn't like Jax as a character and why his character has grown to become very annoying and very boring to a lot of people who watch this show. So today I'm going over why I personally hate the purple bunny and why I feel like so many people are split on his character. Now a common thing I'll see people say who are fans of Jax or people who want to defend Jax is that if someone doesn't like him as a character, they just don't understand his character. And honestly, I feel like this is one of the worst response you could have to try to defend this character because Jax is written extremely simple. So simple to the point that I would argue that 90% of people who watch this show and gave it the slightest bit of attention understand his character. Jax is a character essentially coping with past trauma. He used to be very close with two members of the circus. And now those members are no longer here. And rather than addressing his own emotions or his own mental state, he copes with this by being what he calls the funny one. And funny is very subjective in this case because in reality, he's just tormenting the other members of the circus. The idea is if I can't get close to anyone else, then I can't get hurt like when I lost my other two friends. There's also this element of Jax breaking himself down to something as simple as being the funny one, as if he's a cartoon character in a TV show. He lessens his role of being a part of the circus as something as simple as being the funny one. Because if he can deny its reality, then he can lie to himself and say that it's not real. And if he doesn't believe that the situation that he's in is actually real, then there's no reason to actually worry about it. and nothing that he does while he's in the circus actually matters. There you go. That's Jax's whole character summarized in 2 minutes. The fact of the matter is most people that dislike Jax as a character don't dislike him because they misunderstand his character because he's so complex more than the average viewer can understand. In reality, I think it comes down to two main reasons. The first one is Jax just really isn't that likable as a character. And that's not me saying you can't like him as a character. Obviously, there are Jax fans out there. But when you just look at him on paper, he's pretty insufferable. To me, Jax is very similar to Stolus from Hell of a Boss, where I can tell from how he's portrayed in the story and how the narrative of the story is going that the story wants me to like him. And if not like him, they want me to feel bad for him. They want me to sympathize for him. But when I'm watching The Amazing Digital Circus and I'm looking at Jax, it literally feels impossible to do that. Like I said earlier, for the most part, every time we see Jax, he is terrorizing somebody in the circus.
majority of his earlier appearances were just him harassing other members of the circus and doing things to make their lives miserable on top of them already being in the circus. And you know, if that was just his character, I would actually be pretty fine with that. You know, he would just be the jerk character and that would just be what it is. There are a lot of characters that people love throughout animation, throughout media that are, you know, just objectively bad guys or bullies or evil and we love them because they're iconic. But then we get moments where once again the show wants you to feel bad for Jax or you know have some type of sympathy for him and it just doesn't really connect with me. Like for example in the gun episode Jax goes on this entire rant about how he terrorizes the people in the circus and he gets enjoyment out of it. He loves to see them suffer and all these other things.
And then later in the episode we flash to a moment of him in the bathroom and he's freaking out thinking about abstracting. And when I'm watching this, I'm so confused as to what the show is actually trying to make me feel in this moment because it can't be sympathy for Jax, right? Because 2 minutes before this, he literally told Pomney this.
>> What would you do if I abstracted tomorrow?
>> I'd move on and probably forget about you. So, if the guy is telling other people that he wouldn't care if they abstract, why would I care if he's thinking about abstracting or if he's, you know, on the verge of abstracting? But even moving past that, we have other examples of the show trying to ignore everything that has happened in the show so far to try to make you feel bad for Jax or try to have understanding for Jax. Like for example, in the most recent episode, after given an opportunity to pick to leave the circus or to stay, Jax, who could not cope with the fact that the circus is actually real, made an executive decision to press the button to keep everyone trapped in the circus.
Now, we ended up finding out that there was no escape in the first place and that the whole thing was just one of Kane's adventures. But the thing is, none of them actually knew that, including Jax. So, this guy was so selfish that he would choose to trap every single person in the circus, which you can imagine would cause the rest of the members in the circus to be angry.
But instead of them actually having a realistic reaction that would, you know, make sense, we get dialogue like this instead.
>> She's right.
We've all done bad things.
>> What, bro? What are you talking about, man?
Like when I watched this live, I was really just staring at the screen like, "Oh, they're not even trying to hide it at this point. They're really just trying to push the agenda." Because please tell me what bad things everyone else in the circus has done. I've seen so many people talk about this dialogue and anytime they try to defend it and try to defend Jax, they always start nitpicking at all the other characters.
Well, Raggata did say something slightly mean to Jax one time. Well, Pomny did kind of leave Raggata and run for her life and didn't stay with her. Yeah, I'm not talking about those childish arguments that are honestly pretty stupid. No, please tell me what bad things everyone else has done for Pomni to say this that is on the same level as anything Jax has done throughout the entire story or him, you know, choosing to keep everyone trapped in the circus.
Because when I talk about the bad things that Jax has done, I don't have to nitpick. Jax did throw Ragatha in a deep fryer. Jax does harass Gangle to the point where she's literally terrified of him. Jax does wake up every day to torment the rest of the members of the circus. Now, please tell me what bad things everyone else has done for Pomni to believe that they're all comparable to Jax so much to the point where she has to say, "Oh, well, we've all done bad things." This is what I mean when I say the story is trying to give him an out trying to give him some type of sympathy. When in reality, this guy is painfully unlikable. And in reality, the fact that he uses him terrorizing everyone as a coping mechanism so he doesn't abstract makes him even more unlikable to me because he's running around terrorizing everyone. Like I said, Geng's literally terrified of her.
What if he makes other people abstract?
Like, I've seen so many people who defend Jax like to say, "Well, you just don't understand. This is coping mechanism. People cope differently."
Well, we've seen multiple times in real life that when people get bullied, they can do extreme things like taking their own lives. You're but you're telling me there's no possibility where Jax would be the reason why Raggatha or Gengle would abstract. And going back to the dialogue in the last episode, I think the funniest part about it is all of the dialogue pushes towards, you know, them basically saying, well, you know, it doesn't matter and us fighting won't really change anything. Which is true.
Like, I understand the direction that the show is going, but that message could have been conveyed without a bunch of dialogue essentially saying, "Well, guys, we got to just get over what Jax did because it's not going to change anything." Because literally before we even get to the part where Pomn says, "We've all done bad things." When he's getting pressed about what he did, he bro, he doesn't even apologize, he's essentially like, "Oh, well, you know, well, it's not real, so it doesn't matter, so you know, leave me alone."
>> Anything could have happened when you pressed those buttons. It doesn't matter.
>> It seemed to matter back when you did it. What if you did ruin our one chance at leaving?
>> What if Abel was secretly evil? What if we all got stranded in the void? What if What if What if it wasn't real? So, it doesn't matter. Never did.
>> How can you say that like you didn't try to us all over?
>> Like, this guy is quite literally the worst of the worst in the circus. And I'm perfectly fine with him being that.
Like I said earlier, there are a lot of iconic characters that are just bad that people like, but you're not going to have this guy unapologetically be the worst of the worst and then turn around and have other characters essentially say, "Oh, come on, guys. You know, we're no different. We've done bad things."
Because that's just not true. That's just not true compared to anything else that has happened in the story. And on top of this, another reason why I think a lot of people just really don't like Jax as a character is because Jax is just not interesting. In the beginning of the show, it wasn't really clear who was going to be the main characters or the main focus of the series outside of Pomni. But now that we're eight episodes in, it's very clear that it's Pomni and Jax. They get the most screen time. And that is like the biggest problem I and many people have with the series is that Jax is so painfully uninteresting. It makes the show hard to watch at times because the same way I described Jax's character earlier in 2 minutes is like all Jax is. That is his entire character. That's all he's ever shown.
And nothing that he's ever done throughout the entire series has ever made me go, "Oh yeah, man. We need to see more Jax. We need to more of him. He needs more screen time." because there's only so much you can do with the guy who's traumatized and bullies everyone else and you know that's his entire character. Like one episode dedicated to his backstory being him being a secret sad boy, I can understand. But now we're on like three different episodes where we've explored this topic and if you look at the movie trailer, bro, when you look at the at the uh movie trailer and you look at the promotion for the movie, he's all over the movie, bro. He's literally all over the movie poster.
Maybe it's just me, but Jax doesn't offer anything to explain why he has so much screen time. Like, I've legit seen people say that without Jax having all this screen time, the story would be boring. The Amazing Digital Circus wouldn't hold up. And I don't understand what they even see in him because every time Jax talks, I legit want to turn the episode off because he doesn't offer anything new. Like, objectively, Ker is far more interesting than Jax and he has a fraction of the screen time. Like everything about Ker is interesting from his split personalities to finding out about him losing his wife to finding out that he actually worked for the company that helped create Kane and the circus.
Not to mention when him and Pomna are together, it feels like the story is actually progressing, like it's actually getting somewhere. They make an amazing duel and carried episode 8, which I think is by far the best episode in the entire series. And then I turn and look at Jackson just sigh and go, "Oh, what else can we get out of this character?
He's going to drop some corny line next episode, some corny joke, which I guess if you find him funny, it wouldn't be considered corny, but I don't. So, everything that comes out of his mouth just comes off really cringy and lame.
What is he going to be mean to the rest of the people in the circus again? It's not like we haven't seen that throughout the entire series. Oh, maybe he's going to cry about the two friends that he lost. I'm sure that's really going to, you know, tug on my heartstrings. That's the other thing. I never really liked Jax before, but I feel like they really screwed him over with Ker's backstory.
Because like I said, I see so many people who defend Jax say things like, "Well, he lost his two friends and he's coping and this is how he copes and things like that." But then we find out that Ker quite literally lost his wife.
And not only did he lose his wife, but he was also in the circus from the very beginning, which means he saw way more people abstract before Jax ever could.
Also, Raggatha. Raggatha was in the circus way before Jax, which means she saw people abstract more than him. And despite that, none of them act like Jax.
None of them are trying to terrorize anyone else or trying to make anyone else life hard, which is why when he acts the way he acts, I don't really have any sympathy. I don't really care and I'm not really interested in finding out about his soft story or his backstory. I've been saying this ever since I bought my tickets to go see the movie, which, you know, if you aren't going to be able to see it, I do feel bad for you. I probably will not spoil it for anyone or make a video on it within those twoe period, but I was just thinking whatever backstory they're going to do with Jax the frog and the clown character. I think his name was Kofmo. It's going to have to be the most heart-wrenching thing I've ever seen to actually make me care because like I said before, other people in the circus have lost people. Some people have lost way more than Jax and none of them act like him. But yeah, I am not a big fan of the purple rabbit and I understand the people who don't like him. And if you do, I also can understand why you can like him. You know, everybody has their own preference and I'm not telling you that you shouldn't like him or he shouldn't be your favorite character.
But yeah, man. Appreciate y'all checking out another one. And until then, it's been your boy Corin, and I'm off
