A safe ventilation system for high-latitude boats uses a water lock design where the intake pipe is always positioned above the water level, preventing water from entering the cabin even when the boat heels, capsizes, or pitches; this system evolved from earlier designs like the 'first breeze' boat through multiple iterations including S-bend water traps and improved drainage positioning.

New, Improved high latitude ventilation.Added:
Hello, friends. This is invention.
So, this is a model of the ventilation system of the next boat.
Well, I know many of you, you don't like me thinking about the next boat.
But, sailing to New Zealand for ice cream is just very selfish.
Developing good small high-latitude boats, friendly for environment, that's a good thing for environment.
So, that's why I do it.
So, here comes air and water in, and here I got a draining out through the hole.
And it's a water lock, so air cannot go down there.
But, it can come out here. Here can the air comes out in the cabin.
And when the boat heels, maybe there's some water there.
Well, you see, it cannot come out, even if it's upside down.
So, this is always a bit of about the water.
>> [clears throat] >> Now, this is the idea, and this is the model, and it's for the next boat.
So, thank you, Oscar.
Hello again.
Now, I think it this is more easy to see all of it at the distance, and you can see the water level here.
It cannot be higher because it is drainage in the bottom.
And when the boat heels, the pipe inside is always above it.
And when it's capsize, when it's upside down, water collects there here.
And here's the complete turn, always there.
Same thing with pitch polling, the screws this way.
Pipe is always higher than the water.
So, no water whatsoever.
I don't think even one drip of water ever will get into the cabin.
So, this is safest system I've done so far.
And it doesn't really have to be round, it can be square, you know, to won't fix it.
The question is just about the volume from the water inside coming up from the draining pipe or coming in from the intake.
And this pipe you see here goes into the vent ilation.
So, it's a good thing.
The development of a safe ventilation system has been a long time.
First one was this boat, the first breeze.
And here is the voice I made in it.
Sweden down towards Cape Horn.
But there, she was capsized and I had the pitch pole.
And then I went up to US and worked with Dick Newick building trimarans in Motor Swinyard.
And then came this boat, improved version.
Well, and here is another version later.
Air comes in here.
Water collects here.
And flows out through a water trap, an S bend.
And find it there it goes down into cabin so even if the boat's upside down that's now it's getting even better and this is another improved version and work well and on this boat the draining is below so things goes bit by bit and this maybe is the final one next boat 4.4 m 1.28 m so here is the idea in two dimension up here air comes in into the water container or space and this is the tube bringing air into the cabin and here is the drain going out into water so it's a water lock air cannot go out this way so we just have to get the dimensions and all these things and I think this is a good thing >> Mhm.
