Welcome back here to a Tuesday night, uh, July 21st, 2026, 11:32 PM. A little late here for the update, but hey, always considered, uh, better late than never. Checking in here on the latest activity here across the globe. Shows a 3.5 earthquake.
Uh, hiding out here in the red flag it looks like around the Philippines there.
A little bit of activity, newer activity there on the Manila trench as well with a 3.1 earthquake. No major swarming going on, but across this area, we can see uh a decent uptick here across the Sumatra area with a five-pointer and quite a few other smaller quakes in there in the last hour or so. That is our uh kind of our hot spot area right now across the Java Trench northern end.
There's a little area north here around the Andaman Sea that has yet to fill in, but it looks like it's working its way up northward there far as the migration goes. Uh, Japan fairly quiet aside from a 4.6 earthquake along the Curl Cam Chaka trench.
Uh, New Zealand 3.9 there across the South Island area. It's been rocking and rolling down there in the last few days across this area. Nothing big, but man, things are they're trying to adjust down there across the Alpine Fault. Got to watch that area because it's capable of producing about a 7.5 earthquake.
Uh looking at the Oregon area, let's see what we got going on out there. We got a little swarm it looks like there along the Blanco fracture zone 4.6 and the another smaller quake out there. There is uh what looks like some newer activity showing up as well.
Uh, see that white color ring indicating a newer earthquake, but uh, USGS not reporting that one. So, let's go see what we got here from the EMSC model.
See if that's indeed a newer earthquake out there. We'll check in on this real quick. I see three earthquakes. Uh, there's the 4.6 earlier this morning. It does look like there is a secondary 4.6 uh, that the USGS is not picking up on.
That was at 0509 UTC time. Uh looks like just over an hour and a half ago because current UTC time is 0634.
So uh with that going on there, lot of activity out there in the Blanco fracture zone. Watch the area down south here across the southern end of the Cascadia. Um, I was looking at the tsunami maps here for the Oregon coast and uh, this is a very interesting site called survivingcascadia.com, but ever since I've been sharing their page here, 37 and 50 years, uh, they've removed that portion, the timeline, so to speak, of Cascadia Events from their website. I know the website still works, but that specific site here, right? I' I've showed it a lot. Um, and it talked about the timeline timeline of the Cascadia and they've removed it. I did message uh this individual down here uh at surviving cascadaggmail.com and I have yet to hear back as to why they removed that web page because there was a lot of important information on it and if it's false why report it and then remove it. So I'm looking for an official statement from this individual here. Looks like they are the uh uh the author, so to speak, of surviving Cascadia.com. And I'm kind of expecting a email back from from uh uh the individual there in regards to why they took that page down. Because if you're going to put out a study, if you're going to put out relevant information on the Cascadia and people start sharing it, why would you remove that? So anyway, we'll see what happens there with that uh email reply. Um let's go check out the trimmer counts. I'm betting that they're elevated and will probably continue to be elevated here across the southern end. Um because we're getting a lot of activity there across the Blanco fracture zone here today, including that newer 4.6 and we've had technically four or two 4.6s out there. um elevated tremor counts there confined to the extreme southern end of the Cascadia. Once again, we're looking at 3 and 21 epicenters of slow slip events down there in the deeper area of the Cascadia. Just for reference, that occurs down right about here. That's all fine and dandy to relieve strain across the deeper area.
But guess what it's doing upstream?
Providing further stress for the locked area of the Cascadia. How do we know that? Well, this whole area is folding in on them on on itself. Here you get the Cascadia fold and thrust belt and you can see it on the oceanic uh crust map. Well, you used to this used to be lit up here with uh faults and fractures. It looks like they're revising stuff, but um the folding thrust belt here across that area. This is folding in on itself there. the arrows as the Wandafuka plate is being shoved underneath the North American plate here. If you go back and look here at a simple GPS measurement, okay, this is how we know the land is rising up here and how we know this land's going to drop like a rock. Oh, seven or eight feet or so, uh, when the Cascadia does decide to go down here across the southern end, Gold Beach, for example, right? This is a GPS here. If you look at the vertical displacement, um there was this is I've got about 40mm up vertical displacement here since about 2010. Uh but imagine since 1700.
This has been going up and up and up.
Back in 2017, there was a little bit of decline for whatever reason. That may have something to do with uh an earthquake around the area or at a distance that maybe relieved a little bit of strain out there. But imagine, you know, since 1700, we've been going up and up and up. And that's why, you know, this is not anything to joke around with. This has been going up and up and up since 1700.
So, um it's expected that this land will drop quite a few feet once the earthquake happens out here. And that's a bad sign for tsunami uh inundation and um the water runup. you know, it's not good news. Anyway, so we got elevated tremor across the southern end. Uh watch for elevated earthquake activity upstream here across the um Cascadia fold and thrust belt. There's one earthquake here early this morning, a little 1.8 17 miles deep into the Cascadia, but upstream here, a little bit shallower up towards a locked area uh from the tremor counts. trimmer counts occur a little bit further underneath this area, which would be more uh to the right side of this map, but well underneath the land. So, things are stirring up out there. Washington, not a whole lot going on. There's some activity up here across Victoria, a couple very small micro quakes, but not even really concerned with that. Uh San Francisco area, one earthquake here outside of Pacifica this afternoon, a little 1.5.
Uh there's really not a whole lot going on there. Bay Area. There's just very quiet conditions across that region for now. Little cluster of quakes there across the Pinnacles region along the San Andreas fault. Uh and it looks like here we got one earthquake into the Parkfield section. Hopefully these guys fix their um um their issue here because used to be able to hover over this and it would say park filled section of the San Andreas fault and so on, but now it's just there's nothing. is not showing anything here.
Um, so hopefully they fix that. But that is uh within the Parkfield section. A little onep pointer. Southern California looks a little spotty. Nothing above 2.5. I think personally here, you know, these lines, the defining features are a little bit too bright or thick. You know, it kind of covers up the earthquakes out here. So, just for the USGS developers, I think this is a little bit overdone here. I do like the added faults out here, but it's just it it's overwhelming, you know? I don't know if anybody else can see that, but it's overwhelming when you're looking at this the the picture here. And yes, you can turn off the faults, but I want the faults on, but not this prominent out here. It's just a little bit too uh too big. So, hopefully someone can make an adjustment on there. Little earthquake there in southeast Idaho. A little three-pointer outside of Bennington, Idaho here in the last hour.
Um, Yellowstone, nothing showing up really aside from that little 1.1, but I do want to verify that just to make sure, you know, because there's been times out here, lots of times where nothing will show up on the map and we got a big earthquake swarm going on. So, let's not overlook Yellowstone. But right now, as you can see, not a whole lot going on. There's that little earthquake at 4:00 this morning. So, looks like everything is all hunky dory out there across Yellowstone.
Pretty quiet across the rest of the country there. Let's see what we got here for the earthquake 3D globe.
Um, quite across Japan. Little 2.6 across the Java trench right now. The middle America trench down here. Some activity. I mean, there's still quite a bit of aftershock activity occurring there across the Mexico and Guatemala border area offshore. Some migration working its way up northward there along the plate boundary off the coast of Mexico and South America area pretty active as well. Quite a few threes and fours. This is uh a little bit above the average count out here up and down the subduction zones and even up north here.
So, the plate adjustments are trying uh the plate adjustments attempting out here. That's why we're seeing some elevated earthquake activity. Um, but nothing big at the moment.
Little cluster up there around the Burma area.
Uh, let's go check in on the solar hamsite. See what we got this evening.
See if there's anything major going on.
Uh, what's this yellow up here? What happened here?
That's the X-ray flux chart. Last 24 hours. I'm not for sure. Maybe that's just the end of the reading. Kind of kind of bugs me right there. I don't think there was any flaring, was there?
Oh, yes, there is. Right now, that's what's going on. See that? Looks like maybe an X flare popping off. Oh, hold the horses there. Hold down the fort for a second. We got some some flaring activity popping up here above. It's in the m flare right now.
and it's growing. So, and it's from that active area. I've said to watch it here for the last couple days. It literally popped up out of the blue. I'm going to take a screen capture of this real quick. U it's dimming the entire um SDO, the Solar Dynamics Observatory image here of the UV image of the sun is dimming it. So, that is an incredibly bright flare.
Let's save that real quick.
Um, but yeah, that looks like it's going up and up and up.
I'm not for sure why they have an a flare right now. That's just a little odd. A0.0 looks like a little issue going on here, but it did peak up into the Mflare category. M3.5.
Not for sure it went back why it went back down though. It's a little odd, but that is a bright image. I think it's a little bit stronger than an M flare just looking at that right now. So, we'll check back on that here in a couple minutes. But, as you can see on the visible disc, 4493 is standing out.
And that has potential there for some uh stronger flaring. If you look at the magnetogram image as well, uh we do have some decent polarities here with a center portion. A lot of complexity there. the magnetic complex uh magnetic structure of that sunspot.
The rest of these sunspots here are just dying away. These two massive areas as well. So there's no hope for them. But this area definitely growing rapidly. So the flare threat will remain elevated there. 10% chance there for the Xflare, Mflair at 55, Cflare at 99% chance. So kind of waiting to see what's going on with that. Um, X-ray flux. See if we can find the official site here from spaceweather.gov website. Sometimes I like to look at this. Yeah, looks like that was um a decent size mflare. I don't know what happened here though. Why did that go down so much? It's not in the A flare category.
Why did that pop down into the A category? It's a little weird.
So, unless something really popped on the sun and we lost all all of our uh equipment, who knows? I guess we'll find out, though. We'll check back on that here in a second.
Uh, far as the aurora forecast goes, let's see here. Solar wind has kicked up a little bit. Uh, BZ, they're into the negative territory.
See what we got. I do like this dashboard. This is wide open here as far as the BZ component. So, uh, any aurora activity could happen if we get a decent wind speed far as solar wind goes, but I don't see that really happening out there right now.
So, we do have chances here through over the over the next couple nights here of seeing maybe some aurora activity, but I like I say, I I'm not really expecting much out there. The auroras are not showing it far as the forecast goes.
So, all right, let's see here.
Check in on the Storm Prediction Center real quick. See what we got here for uh the Wednesday forecast. Pretty humid out here. Really uh it's actually sticky.
It's still 83 degrees here in Northern California. I don't live in Death Valley, by the way. I live just outside of Chico here, north of Sacramento. And I got a 73 degree due point. Humidity is at 70 and it's 83 degrees. So it's quite muggy out here. And that's thanks to a former tropical system here. Well, it's still tropical system, but it's uh bringing a lot of humid air here to the uh west coast right now. No thunderstorm chances at least for my area up in the mountains potentially. So tornado threat tomorrow, limited there across the green area. little bit of wind and not so much hail thread out there uh for your Wednesday. But the um where's my windy model at right here?
I'm going to show you guys where that system's at. You can actually see it spinning out out here. Not too often do you have a tropical system off the coast of San uh San Francisco, California.
That's pretty crazy. Uh but it's weak, very weak. Uh it is going to stir up some wind though. Uh that's the area of circulation there from that tropical system. Uh the satellite view, you can just barely see the remnants of it. Uh not so much, at least on this image. On the uh visible satellite when it's daytime, you can. This is leftover moisture that we've been getting. But the area of circulation here is right about in this region here. Some thunderstorms sparking up there across the Nevada and well, it looks like mainly Utah area.
Uh but we are going to get a little bit of wind here tomorrow. And the due points are going to go up further. And look at that. Just stirring up some some tropical wind in Northern California.
Who would have thought that? Going to be hot though. Hot and muggy and humid.
So due points are going to be uh elevated as well out here for tomorrow.
All right. Um but aside from that, let me go back here to the space weather site.
Yeah, it just had that M flare and then it just went it just bottomed out.
That's a little weird. And I'm not for sure why it did that. M3.4.
Um, but that was from That's got to be from yesterday.
Yeah. So, it's produced a couple implers here, but the more recent one, uh, it's going to be this one right here. An M.
Well, where'd he go? What's going on with this website here? here. Look at that.
It lost its maximum here. Something happened here recently. Everything went offline once that Mflair hit.
So, as you can see, it peaked up around the M uh let's see what we got here. M 3.5 area. Very impulsive flare, but something happened to where things just messed up the system here.
See, it went off. Look at that. Oh, there we go. I was gonna say, where'd it go? It's completely offline. 0636.
That's still hasn't updated, though.
It's 11:50. So, it normally updates every 15 or 20 minutes or so.
It's possible maybe that was a little bit stronger flare.
So, I'll have to keep a keep an eye on that. I'll update it uh if I need to far as uh any title goes here on the video.
But for now, folks, uh, I'm going to call it. Seismograph stations out there look pretty quiet as far as the Earthmaster Explorer goes. Still getting some emails as far as those interested in the um, public release of this app.
