Swimming With Gentle Giants in Cebu! The WHALE SHARKS of OslobAñadido:
Imagine swimming beside a creature as big as a bus, but as gentle as a puppy.
Today, we're in beautiful Olo, to meet the largest fish in the entire world, the amazing whale shark, also known in the Philippines as the bhunding.
Let's dive in and discover some incredible facts about these gentle ocean giants.
One, whale sharks are officially the biggest fish on Earth. They can grow up to 40 feet long and they can weigh more than 20 tons. Wow. Even baby whale sharks are already super big compared to most fish. But don't worry, despite their giant size, whale sharks are peaceful animals and are completely harmless to people. Two, they love warm oceans. Whale sharks love warm tropical waters, which is why places like the Philippines are perfect homes for them. People from all over the world travel to Oslo, Cebu, just for a chance to see these amazing creatures up close. And seeing them in a real life feels like swimming with dinosaurs from the ancient ocean.
Three, they are very old animals.
Scientists believe whale sharks have been swimming in Earth's oceans for millions of years. Some whale sharks can even live up to 70 to 150 years old.
That means one whale shark could be older than your grandparents.
Four, they eat tiny food. You might think such a huge animal would eat giant sea creatures, but whale sharks actually eat tiny food like plankton, small fish, and shrimp.
They swim slowly with their mouths open and filter food from the water. Kind of like a giant underwater vacuum cleaner.
That's why whale sharks are called filter feeders.
Five. Their spots are unique. See those beautiful white spots on their skin?
Every whale shark has a different spot pattern just like human fingerprints.
Scientists even use these spots to identify and track different whale sharks around the world.
So, yes, whale sharks basically have their own special ID design. Quick fun facts. Whale sharks can have over 3,000 tiny teeth.
They are excellent swimmers, but move very slowly.
Their mouths can grow over 4 ft wide.
Even though they are called whale sharks, they are not whales.
They are fish.
Whale sharks are beautiful, gentle creatures. But sadly, they are endangered.
This is because of pollution, plastic waste, and harm caused by humans. That's why we should always respect the ocean.
Avoid throwing trash into nature to protect marine animals and their homes because every creature in the ocean matters.
And maybe one day future kids will also get the chance to swim beside these incredible gentle giants.
Thanks for watching our adventure. Don't forget to like, subscribe, and help protect our oceans.
