Religion throughout history has served as both a tool of colonial oppression and a foundation for liberation movements, as exemplified by figures like William Wilberforce who used religious philosophy to advocate for emancipation; this dual nature reflects human nature's tendency to utilize available tools for both subjugation and liberation rather than any inherent quality of religion itself.

Is religion a tool for liberation or oppression? 🤔Ajouté :
So yeah, sure, people have used religion for bad, but people have also used it for good. I don't think that says anything about religion. Religion in periods of history has been used as a colonial tool. Everyone has to agree with that. But at the same time, religion was also used as a liberation tool. When you think about William Wilberforce, there's so many people through history who have used religion as their philosophical undergirding for emancipation. If you take a look at the Bible, it's hard to read it solely as a tool of oppression when the whole thing is literally a tale of people who are captured subjugated being free. So yeah, sure, people have used religion for bad, but people have also used it for good. I don't think that says anything about religion. That says more about human nature and our penchant for always trying to find a tool to subjugate other people we don't like.
