Perfect Blue: Satoshi Kon's Ambiguous Masterpiece Explained

[00:00:00]See, this was meant to be. We were meant to meet on this day. [laughter] But I I think paranoia age, I think it's just like true, the masterpiece of Satoshi Kon.

[00:00:07]Um and you know, his films have had such an influence. Have you explored like the I mean, it's hard not to explore all his works. But what is it about Perfect Blue do you think that stands above, you know, something like Paprika or Millennium Actress?

[00:00:21]I think it is maybe the concise nature of it. It's like it's ambiguous, [clears throat] but it's not so ambiguous that it it it can't grip you immediately. I think sometimes I and I love all of his work, but I think uh not just for Satoshi Kon, but everyone who who attempts to to jump into the the ambiguousness of of of anything.

[00:00:52]Um sometimes it's hard to have I guess a hook that can that can ground you and and keep you going as like a through line from start to finish. Um I think Perfect Blue straddles the line like perfectly. I've always having something to grab onto, but at the same time always having to question if it's real or not. Yeah. You know, whereas the other ones you can kind of get lost in immediately, which is also great.

[00:01:20]But I think just as a like one time viewing experience, um yeah, I think Perfect Blue kind of just nails it.
