[00:04:12]Here's a bit of unsolicited game jobs advice from someone who has been reviewing applications all day. Okay, so he's recruiting, he's hiring. Yep. Look up the games of the studio that you're applying to. We are a small studio and I don't expect most people to have played our games, but acknowledging they exist and expressing an opinion about them always scores points with me. Out of the 130 applications I reviewed today, not one person did this. I saw this and I had to hit them with the So you want applicants to blow fake smoke up your ass? Like let's be real, he's looking for a compliment. He's looking for a compliment. Yeah. Let's be real. Any applicant who does this doesn't actually care about the game, which is true.

[00:04:52]>> sucking up. Yeah, of course. So and then they just want to work. Give them the job, then that changes. That's the truth. Yeah.

[00:05:00]Doesn't [clears throat] mean that like if they're interested in the studio, it doesn't mean they're going to be interested in the games. It's just there to suck up to whoever you're applying to. Especially a big studio. No one goes to every big studio and plays all their games and and gives them positive feedback. There's a lot of games out there that are actually not good, but they're never going to hear that.

If you can't afford to pay your team, you don't deserve their work. In the last 1.5 years, we've hired eight interns, fully remote, all paid at 10,000 rupees a month. Well, read this comment. Very interesting that you brought this up. 10K is far below the minimum wage. It's freaking horrible.

The short answer is no. Okay, if you're looking to survive with any level of dignity or safety, 10,000 rupees per month is absolute rock bottom.

No, they're going to want you full-time. Then they'll they'll they'll run you into the ground. Yeah. Yeah, one of them has joined us full-time. They go, "Oh, sweet. Now you're not getting paid much and we're going to get as much production as we can out of you." Yeah, let's look at what this person says. I haven't read this. "Since you brought it up and used minimum wages and keeping morality or emotions aside, okay?"

The minimum or for that matter any wages are applicable to workers and not the interns. Okay, so basically saying it's an internship, that's why it pays so little. But again, it's freaking work at the end of the day. But again, we got to look what are these interns doing in that role? Was the job similar as regular employment / work being done by a worker or were they just learning the way that they're supposed to?

It's just absolutely embarrassing. Like again, say no to free labor. It's like how can you be so basic with one thing and so dumb with the other?

[00:08:28]Now, I've been told in the past, wouldn't it be good to show a good job post for once? You know, I talk about all these crappy, shitty job posts.

[00:08:35]Wouldn't it be good to finally find one that's actually good? Yeah. So we got this one, 3D artist generalist based in Victoria, but this is Canada, okay? Over 100 applicants, from Victoria, whatever, okay? So we look here and this thing caught my eye and I thought this was really cool. It says here wage $36.60 an hour and then in brackets overtime paid where applicable. You know, and that's a really rare thing to find, especially in the games industry.

[00:08:57]>> It is rare. Really rare because you you know, they they put you on and they you know, you work your full-time hours, but then they expect you to do overtime that's unpaid and that's the how crunch is, especially a lot of triple A, okay?

[00:09:08]So sounds great, beautiful. But guys, we're never going to find a perfect job post cuz there's always going to be one thing that's going to be dog [ __ ] about it. Right at the bottom, shortlisted candidates may be asked to complete a brief art test.

Very rarely are they is there actual competition where there's two or three candidates actually fighting for the job. They What they're doing is they have a favorite and then they have like three or four underdogs and then they get them to do the the art test and they're hoping that one of those underdogs blows them out of the water to beat their favorite. Then they would be pleasantly surprised.

[00:11:13]>> Then they'll consider it. But if if those people are doing good in their art test but not great, they're just going to get the favorite.

[00:11:20]It's also to see if you're happy to be bent over and take it because if you're willing to do an art test and I know a lot of us have done art tests in the past. I don't think I've ever done an art test. But a lot of people have taken an art test in the past. It's just to see if you put up with it because if you're happy to put up with this, you're probably going to be happy to put up with whatever they give you out there.

[00:11:39]And I mean that in a bad way. You're probably going to be happy you're probably going to be happy to deal with any [ __ ] that they throw at you.

[00:11:59]So, this company I've seen quite a few times. One thing that really angers me is they put like these freaking clickbait terms like $65 an hour remote.

They're hoping that they can interview you and you can do all their role responsibilities and requirements and whatever stuff [music] and then they ask you for what's your salary expectation and all that and you give them like a low figure and they're like sweet. Rather than fingers And it's always at the end of the freaking interview or the end of the process when that gets asked. It's I get there's a big taboo here with asking about pay. Honestly, it should be one of the first questions. I I look I don't care if like a lot of people think it makes them sound like, you know, they're being obnoxious or they're but seriously, you got to it's if your employer truly cared And and they do care. They just want to make it so it's at the end so you feel exhausted So you don't ask and you won't take less. That's what I'm saying as an interviewee, it's in your best interest to, you know, ask it as soon as possible cuz if they're serious about hiring someone, they will respect you and they will answer it respectfully, you know, and it might even generate some respect for you. There was someone wrote about like we when it comes to like business larger business um discussions and and stuff like that or they're about to hire someone, what they do is the CEO takes out the um the the candidate for um a day for lunch or dinner or something like that and only at the end of the day after they're um socially exhausted, do they ask how much um um what's your salary expectation or something like that?
