NEW 30 Day Challenge Island: Rhubarb Day1

[00:00:00]Hello, hello, and welcome back to Animal Crossing, where today we're going to be starting a brand new island and also trying out a 30-day challenge. So, this was an idea pitched by my husband, Tofu Alien, and he's also doing this on his channel. So, the idea is that to get me back into recording, I'll be doing this sort of side by side.

[00:00:26]And there are going to be some rules.

[00:00:29]I will get into those rules, but first let's get through this quick starter sort of cutscene. So, of course, my name will be Mumsy, like always. My birthday is the 21st of the 5th. And my person, let's quickly make one of those. And I think this will do for now.

[00:00:49]It might change as it wouldn't surprise me if I have to pick a couple islands.

[00:00:54]And here we go. Here are my options.

[00:00:58]Let's see if there's anything I like, but I might restart if I don't see anything I like. And after a little bit of staring, I feel like this one is kind of interesting. None of these islands are too terrible, honestly. This is a bit close, and I think it might even be very similar to my last island, Bramble.

[00:01:19]>> [music] >> And yeah, like it was really hard to decorate that small of an area. I'm going to want all this space. Honestly, the top left-hand corner with the cliff edges might be a bit squashed in, but I think there is going to have to be some terraforming done regardless with these options. So, I think I'm going to go with this one as it gives me a lot of space. There's a nice sort of cliff area, the sort of pier, not the pier, but the outcropping, that's what I mean.

[00:01:53]Looks quite large and decent, so um, I think I'll go with this one.

[00:01:59]And hopefully we'll get some decent starters. We'll get um, uh, I don't really mind though who I get, but uh, I don't really mind the fruits. I don't really mind the airport color. I don't really mind the flowers. We'll just uh, we'll just start off and let's see how it goes.

[00:02:17]Uh, anyway, I'll go through the rules now as uh, this sort of cutscene plays.

[00:02:21]The 30-day challenge is uh, [music] 30 recording days, so not actually 30 physical days, um, [music] you know, from from now.

[00:02:30]Um, those are to design the island, um, and to record [music] in sort of 1-hour blocks [clears throat] at a time.

[00:02:38]So, we are allowed to do some things off camera, but those will be limited to the dailies before recording.

[00:02:45]So, things like [music] uh, picking weeds, doing DIY bottles, and uh, collecting fossils, hitting rocks, >> [music] >> shaking trees, the kind of things that you probably don't really want to see on camera.

[00:02:56]So, [music] um, no designing off camera, just the little uh, collection sort of things.

[00:03:03]Of course, we'll limit ourselves to not having any um, trades between us, uh, no treasure islands, and no Happy Home Paradise. Uh, we're going to aim for five stars if we can do that.

[00:03:15]And there's no real theme. It's kind of normcore, we're just making the most of what we can do. Uh, I have two, I would say, pretty good villagers, honestly.

[00:03:26]Um, Billy and Deirdre, so I'm pretty pleased with that. Um, a blue airport, I'm quite happy, and I believe it was peaches, but um, I will just have to double check that.

[00:03:35]Anyway, back to the rules. Uh, terraforming and waterscaping is allowed. However, that's obviously going to take quite a lot of time, and you'll have to do that on camera. And uh, time skipping, also quite the same thing.

[00:03:49]So, anyway, those are are the main rules. Um, you know, hopefully we can skip like keep to them and they shouldn't be too difficult. I'm just going to say to Deidre, "Sorry, come back. Come back.

[00:04:05]And yeah, I'm quite happy with these two in this nice go in this nice uh this nice deer here. I've never had either really.

[00:04:13]So, it will be different and nice different experience.

[00:04:17]And the peaches also look quite nice.

[00:04:19]I'm happy with that.

[00:04:20]I wish I could look at the map. Um, the distance wasn't too bad from the airport.

[00:04:26]It is far, but it's not like, you know, um, it's not too bad. Like, I think I can I can work with this.

[00:04:34]It'll be a little wiggle in the path.

[00:04:36]That means I am going to have to use all the base paths and and that kind of thing.

[00:04:40]Um, as, you know, I won't have, you know, the the designs available to me online.

[00:04:46]So, that should be interesting. But, without further ado, I've got to get into this game.

[00:04:51]And here's Deidre and Billy and myself.

[00:04:54]So, the clock is ticking. Um, I think today I'm just going to do the best I can with sort of just getting through the the first few days.

[00:05:04]Um, and of course doing these tasks that he's going to ask me to do.

[00:05:08]And the first task is to set up my tent and then set up these two.

[00:05:14]And of course, as always, I will try to do these on the beach. Just so that I can move them when I'm able to. Money might be a bit of a an obstacle in this game.

[00:05:25]As we would often give ourselves like a some pocket money to begin with so that we can do those first projects a little bit faster. So, um, >> [music] >> potentially um, that might be a bit of a constraint, but hopefully we can earn a bit of money with those those dailies.

[00:05:43]And here's Billy here.

[00:05:45]Um, do I have a map? I do. I am going towards the beach, good.

[00:05:49]>> [laughter] >> It was just taking a bit longer than I'd like, so.

[00:05:52]Right, this is a decent size.

[00:05:55]Um, oh, and there's Deirdre, perfect. I think I can get all three of us on this little beach here, so let's try that, shall we?

[00:06:03]And after a little bit of wiggling around, I think this will be my spot.

[00:06:08]Deirdre is right behind me, so I'll try and fit her as close to me as possible.

[00:06:13]And this is as close as I can get her to my tent, which is perfectly fine.

[00:06:17]You know, I always forget he is a jock because he's so old.

[00:06:22]>> [laughter] >> Uh, I kind of imagine he's going to be like cranky, but nope, he is uh, full of energy.

[00:06:28]And uh, let me take that tent from you.

[00:06:31]And I'll try and get you as close as I can to us.

[00:06:33]But there might be a bit of a gap, sorry.

[00:06:35]And unfortunately, it does narrow quite a bit here, so hopefully just here will be fine, though. And there we go, this will do. So, we're all on this uh, slim beach here and that's perfect.

[00:06:49]Let's go back to the plaza, and I always forget that I have no choice.

[00:06:56]And of course, he wants me to find some firewood and a little snack, so um, let's uh, let's go ahead and do that.

[00:07:05]Of course, I'm going to need uh, all the materials I can get, so honestly, uh, I don't mind doing this, but I don't want to eat into my time too much as uh, yeah, 15 minutes has elapsed already.

[00:07:18]And there we go, I should have enough in my pockets to make him happy.

[00:07:22]And I must admit, I do love the beginning of a brand new island. It's just so serene and peaceful and kind of empty, but in a nice way.

[00:07:31]So, there we go, here are your sticks.

[00:07:34]And here are your peaches.

[00:07:37]And with the fire lit, we let the festivities begin.

[00:07:41]And I suppose we should really name our island. So, um I I kind of have a good idea. I thought I want to name this island.

[00:07:49]I just need to make sure I spell it correctly because it's one of those words that doesn't quite look right, but here we have the island of rhubarb.

[00:07:58]It's a shame that um rhubarb isn't an item in the game. Um I was hoping there'd be like a food item, like a pie or something, but no, unfortunately.

[00:08:08]>> [laughter] >> Uh if there was, I would have had my own little mini challenge of trying to find that item in the 30 recording hours. Um but let's go with rhubarb for now.

[00:08:19]Maybe I'll just uh try and do regular pie and pretend it's rhubarb.

[00:08:26]And we're all happy with that name.

[00:08:30]And hopefully you are too cuz I think it's quite a cute name.

[00:08:33]And of course, I have been officially appointed the resident representative of rhubarb. That's a lot of Rs.

[00:08:42]Uh howdy, why not?

[00:08:44]And a quick toast to uh beginnings of rhubarb. I feel like um tofu might be a little bit jealous that I got uh Billy and uh Deirdre here.

[00:08:55]>> [laughter] >> Um although I think he's had both before, so um you know, for me they're different characters at least.

[00:09:04]And they're also uh very um like I don't want to say like normcore isn't like a bad thing, but they are.

[00:09:13]>> [laughter] >> They're kind of normcore, so uh that works out really well. Of course, if we do want a theme, we can do a theme. It's simply that um with the items that we have sort of limited to in the 30 days uh that we have to do it, it's going to be the best to um it's going to be the best to just to stick with sort of like a normcore easy theme.

[00:09:35]And here we go. We've just collected our camping cot.

[00:09:39]And I think it is time for bed, so we're going to unfortunately ignore all the festivities.

[00:09:50]And here we are. I am going to open these as I'm going to need any items that I can get. So, if I wanted to keep them as boxes, um unfortunately, no. Not Not right now. I need these items. And they're quite nice items actually, so hopefully I'll use them. Anyway, into bed.

[00:10:09]And I will probably skip recording this this little cutscene here as it's kind of long. And here we go. So, I just sort of mashed B through that entire little cutscene. I'm so sorry, but I just need to get through this a little bit faster than I would normally.

[00:10:26]And here we go. And we've also got Deirdre here to sort of like welcome us on our first uh brand new day on the island.

[00:10:35]And first up, I need my NookPhone.

[00:10:38]And thank you very much. I've got my bill. So, it's going to be time to pay this off, get the museum started.

[00:10:45]There's going to be a lot to do, so we better get into it. And that is 5,000 miles. So, that's going to be my first task. Um as soon as he lets me go anyway.

[00:11:32]And uh let's grab these items.

[00:11:35]As like I said, I'm going to be needing all the items I get. I'm going to go ahead and pop them down uh just behind my tent here as I don't really have much space anywhere else.

[00:11:44]So, here is a leaf statue.

[00:11:48]And here is uh my DIY workbench. I can't memorize it yet, though. So, of course, I'm going to have to run over to the next tent and see what's up for today.

[00:12:03]Um here's Billy, here's Deirdre. Neither have anything to say to me.

[00:12:07]Um where is this Nook's Tent? It's over here.

[00:12:10]And here we go. Pulled straight over.

[00:12:13]And the DIY workshop is open, so I might as well agree to do that. Um about that workshop, I've got this uh this workbench that I can't make.

[00:12:23]And he wants five branches, of which I don't have enough.

[00:12:26]However, luckily for me, they were just outside, so that didn't take very long at all. And here is our first DIY, the fishing rod.

[00:12:39]And importantly, um I need a few recipes. Of course, I can't decorate my island without getting these recipes.

[00:12:47]And of course, he wants to see any local fauna that we happen to encounter, so we can get that museum set up. So, I'm going to have to do that as well.

[00:12:58]Of course, I'll have a look to see what he's selling. So, a candle, a smoker, and uh some of these items. I've got some roses, some tulips, and some windflowers. And I'm going to try and get these as quickly as I can. But for now, let's sell any of the peaches that I happen to have on me.

[00:13:15]I think a shell, just a few things. So, not a lot, but it does get me uh a fair little bit to begin with. So, I'll take it.

[00:13:24]In fact, I can use that money to uh to purchase something.

[00:13:27]And I think I'm going to go with the slingshot and uh possibly DIYs. I want the slingshot um just so that uh if I happen to encounter a balloon, I can pop it and hopefully like some furniture or something will come out.

[00:13:41]Maybe a recipe. That's going to be quite important to always have on me. Um I could purchase one, but I think I'll just go for the recipe.

[00:13:48]And it gives me enough money to buy the um the recipes, the extra recipes as well.

[00:13:54]And for doing that, we got some um first-time buyer and the seller of unwanted stuff rewards. So, let's quickly collect these Nook Miles as I'm aiming for 5,000.

[00:14:09]I'm also going to give myself a quick refresher as to what things I can do to earn those um to earn those points.

[00:14:17]Okay, and off I go. So, um I'm going to want to shake some trees, unfortunately.

[00:14:23]Oh.

[00:14:24]How perfect. Uh a garden gnome. I'll take it.

[00:14:28]And [music] that is some Nook Miles immediately.

[00:14:32]I I'm going to need lots of sticks. I'm going to make all those tools. I'm then going to have to chop some trees and uh get some wood.

[00:14:39]But, I'm also um I'm also going to have to run from these.

[00:14:45]>> [laughter] >> I don't think I'm going to make it. It's too far away. Save me. Oh, wait. Maybe maybe maybe maybe maybe. Yes.

[00:14:52]>> [gasps] >> I just uh didn't want to have to buy any medicine, and I want to take that screen that the screenshot for my thumbnail, but without the bees, please.

[00:15:01]Anyway, that was a little bit of a detour. Um it does get me an item though that I can uh I can sell cuz I think it sells for a quite a little bit. Let's hope that doesn't happen over and over again. But, I think I'm going to take those items um that I put on the floor and put them inside my home as um that will get me to collect closer towards uh getting my my Nook Miles points.

[00:15:27]And selling lots of fruit will also help, so yeah. Um I guess I'll be back and let you know if anything interesting happens in the meantime.

[00:17:33]You know what? I think that's a good place to just head on in and see what I can make as I have a few sticks and stones now. So, um, I don't have too many tools that I can make. I can only make the uh the flimsy net. I have the fishing rod and I cannot make the slingshot yet as I do not have an axe. So, let's make this.

[00:17:58]And for the meantime, I'm going to sell all the things I collected.

[00:18:02]It's not an awful lot, but it's uh it's some money.

[00:18:06]And I do need everything I can make. Uh, and I have some net miles. So, island togetherness, which is just from speaking to my villagers.

[00:18:15]Pick of the bunch from selling those um peaches.

[00:18:19]And that is it for now. I'll also uh have a little look at this and see what items are for sale. So, nothing I particularly want and and can't afford at the moment. Um, these are quite nice, but um I will probably try and purchase them when I have a bit more money.

[00:18:41]And there aren't any other options at the moment. So, that will do.

[00:18:44]Quick look in the recycle box and I will claim this cardboard box as it's a new item. And there we go. I really need to get into fishing and bug catching. So, I'm just going to place this item back here and start doing that so I can um sort of get Blathers coming here. So, uh I tried to use my tool ring. I don't have one yet.

[00:19:08]And the first is a zebra turkey fish.

[00:19:12]Now, I might do a little bit of this off camera after this recording session. I'm going to do as much as I can right now, but just because this isn't overly interesting and it and it's not designing the island. Um it's just sort of getting getting Blathers here and getting the museum open.

[00:19:27]But for now, let's uh do the bare minimum that I need to at least unlock that.

[00:19:40]My second zebra turkey fish, but I can sell that as no problem.

[00:19:45]And another butterfly, the common butterfly.

[00:19:49]And a seahorse. And just for good measure, I'll collect this as well. This uh is it tiger butterfly? Yeah.

[00:19:57]And take them to Nook here as he asked for them. I found a creature.

[00:20:04]So, I'll show him the first thing that I caught, which is this uh this uh zebra turkey fish.

[00:20:10]And send me over a new app, the Critterpedia. And I have to do this a couple more times. But that's fine because I'm getting these nice rewards each time. And of course, I would like that axe. And there we go. With that last uh donation there, he has his phone call from Blathers. So, uh that gets the museum started at least.

[00:20:30]And here is the campsite for the uh museum, the spot. So, I'll gladly take that. I also received um the the axe recipe and I think I might be able to make one.

[00:20:43]And I can. I also got the um Oh, I don't I don't I need more materials. Oh, I used my six um and I got the uh the watering can. Uh I got some flowers, so I'll go ahead and shake some more trees.

[00:20:56]I should also write on that board behind me just to get some more Nook Miles. So, I'll do that now.

[00:21:01]And I wish I had more time, but this is all I'm going going do as I don't have too much recording time left. So, welcome to Re-Tail. Uh that will get me some Nook Miles.

[00:22:30]I think I'll go ahead and buy some flowers.

[00:22:33]Pick this spot right here to plant those flowers. So, I have some red roses I got as a rewards.

[00:22:43]And then, in a little patch right beside them, I'll plant these white windflowers that I just purchased.

[00:22:52]Next up is to put this tent somewhere.

[00:22:54]So, I guess I'll go ahead and find a beach spot that is large enough, hopefully, to uh keep the tent. I'm not sure if this is going to be big enough, but I'll give it a go.

[00:23:08]And no, it's far too large. So, I don't know if there's going to be any beaches that I have that can actually hold it.

[00:23:17]Ooh, maybe here, but maybe if I go one back.

[00:23:24]No, even that is uh too small.

[00:23:27]I will admit I did forget just how large the uh the tent [music] is. So, I suppose I'll go back to that beach and put it down just above the um the beach line there. So, hopefully this shouldn't interfere with any of my my sort of building later on, but I'm going to gather these peaches so I don't lose these materials when uh when I expand. [music] So, uh once again, I'm trying to use my um my ring tool that I don't have.

[00:23:55]And I might as well collect some wood for the first time while I'm at it.

[00:23:59]Okay, and this should be just fine, I think, this area.

[00:24:04]And I certainly will be moving it later on, but this will do for now.

[00:24:16]So, planting those flowers got me another 300.

[00:24:20]And that's it for the moment. There's a few things I can still do though.

[00:24:24]Um I can catch more fish. I can water those flowers. And I can chop these trees. And I certainly will do more tree chopping as I definitely need the materials. Um I don't know if I can I can catch this cuz of the the ring tool is so slow [music] without it having to go through my inventory.

[00:24:43]I'll leave it for now. Um That If you didn't see it, was uh the the bug in the tree. Um not the spider.

[00:24:51]I can't remember what it was called. Um Sorry about that.

[00:24:55]And there we go. That was another nook miles. So, is that for raffian? 20 wood collected.

[00:25:02]4,000. We're getting there, but I've only got like a few minutes left on the timer. Can I do it?

[00:25:09]Let's make that that watering can and water those flowers and let Tom know that I put that tent down.

[00:25:17]So, he's going to pull me over straight away and ask about the tent. I did I did find a place for it. But, let's craft these things. I want this so I can water those those flowers. And unfortunately, I didn't get enough hardwood for that slingshot yet. So, that's going to have to be it. I also I'm going to place my bugs here because I'm I guess I should do it next to the the tents that I've just put down cuz I'm worried I'm accidentally going to sell them instead of, you know, using them to create this this museum. So, place.

[00:26:00]There we go. And then back to the flowers to water.

[00:26:21]And that is all 10 waters and a few more nook miles for my pocket.

[00:26:34]I don't know if I've got the time to really scrounge anymore. But for now, I am going to try and work on getting this slingshot as I will be very sad if I see a balloon and cannot collect from it. But, yeah, I've only got like at most 5 minutes.

[00:26:49]So, I'll see what I can do in that little bit of time. I also never picked up this uh this wasp nest, so I can sell that for a little bit of cash.

[00:26:59]And of course, [music] even though it's not ideal, I can hit this rock with my axe um just so that I have some materials. If this breaks, uh I can make another one.

[00:27:10]There we go.

[00:27:12]And just on time, as I mentioned it, uh the rocks there, that's how far I made it before it broke. So, I'm really glad that I went ahead and hit that rock just before it broke on me. So, I better go and make another one. And then I should also have materials that I need to uh actually um make that um the slingshot. The Nook Miles I just received, what what they for? Oh, for breaking it. Okay, perfect.

[00:27:37]Another 300. Ah, I'm really close.

[00:27:42]So, I want to repair my axe or craft a new one, I should say.

[00:27:47]And at the same time, make myself a watering can.

[00:27:51]And with that iron nugget, I also have enough um materials to make myself a simple DIY workbench outside. So, it should speed up my um my my crafting a little bit, so I don't have to keep keep coming back and forth here.

[00:28:04]And some more Nook Miles. So, is it going to be enough?

[00:28:10]It is indeed. So, that is the 5,000 Nook Miles. And with moments left on the clock, I'm just going to go ahead and let him know that I can uh pay off my moving fees. And I'm probably going to have to say goodbye before I get to use my my tools or anything. So, I'm glad that's done.

[00:28:28]Uh I feel like I've accomplished quite a fair bit just for like 1 hour. It's amazing how much you can do in just an hour. But um yeah, like it'll do.

[00:28:38]Um I'm quite happy with that. I'm quite happy with the start. I'm quite happy with Rhubarb. And I like my villagers um since I've never had them before.

[00:28:48]And there we go. So, um he has uh given me a reward for paying off my moving fees and asked if I would like to upgrade my my tent, which I might as well say I do want that.

[00:29:25]Yeah, there was a lot there he had to say. Anyway, um that is my my day, my first day on the island. I think it went rather well. Um all my first recording session, I should say.

[00:29:38]Um off camera, I will de-weed the island and uh and do those little things that I said I'd do, but um I've actually you've got to watch me get all of my um my Nook Miles to actually pay off my first uh loan there.

[00:29:52]And um yeah, I don't I won't do any more Nook Mile like collection off camera. It will just be the actual chores and uh you know, I will call it chores as that's what it is.

[00:30:04]And uh I'll probably uh I think it's Is it Is it 10 or 15 things? I think it's 15 um that I need to collect here, so I'm going to pick this up.

[00:30:29]Uh I will consult with the uh the rule maker though to make sure that I is correct and we're sort of keeping to the same set of rules as it wouldn't be fair if um I decide, "Yeah, I can do this."

However, that is very old. And, I'm frightened that it will be broken soon. So, I think the fan is broken.

[00:31:32]It does kind of whir like crazy. And, it sounds awful. So, I'm not really I'm not going to support that as a >> [laughter] >> as a recording device anymore because of its unreliability.
