Effective film criticism requires evaluating multiple dimensions including technical execution (CGI quality, editing, practical effects), narrative coherence (plot logic, character motivation), and character development (writing quality, dialogue effectiveness). Films that attempt to parody modern social media culture often fail when they lack wit and cleverness, resulting in annoying rather than entertaining content. Additionally, films that rely heavily on CGI for creature effects often lack the charm and authenticity of practical effects, and poor editing techniques used to conceal low budgets can further diminish the viewing experience.

A Breed Apart (2025) Movie Review - An insufferable Killer Dog FilmAdded:
[sighs and gasps] >> A breed apart.
First off, thank you Devonte for the paid request. I do appreciate it for those interested requests in any type of videos. Now, when I got this request, I never heard of this film before. But when I looked at the title, I went, "Did they remake Is this a remake of that Rutger Hauer film?"
Cuz in the '80s, there was a film called A Breed Apart where Powers Boothe from Southern Comfort, the Van Damme film Sudden Death, was hired by I think by Donald Pleasence from Halloween to go to this island or whatever, and this certain egg or eggs from this rare bird they're supposed to get for this guy's collection.
But Rutger Hauer is in the conservation.
He'll protect using using deadly force if he needs to.
So, Powers Boothe pretends that he's a photographer and try to get into being friendly Rutger Hauer in order to get the I mean, it doesn't matter cuz that's not what this is. It's not a remake of that movie. It has the same title.
In fact, this is a loose adaptation of another movie called The Breed, which was done years and years ago with Michelle Rodriguez.
Where's an island and there's a pack of rabid dogs, and group of women have to survive.
And you know what? I remember seeing The Breed and going, "Not bad."
The dog attacks were all done in camera, uh from what I remember. I don't remember a whole lot of CGI. Maybe there's a minimal use, but it it took itself seriously. Michelle Rodriguez, I remember being all right in it.
But the dog attack sequences I remember being done very professionally in terms of using the trainers, and well, it did a lot of done in camera.
One of the things I didn't like about it is it kind of left it with a sequel bait ending, and then there was never a sequel. And not every movie needs that.
Sometimes when they do that [ __ ] it's pretty annoying.
But at least I remember being a a decent film.
Why they picked that to do a remake reimagining of, I don't know.
Now, this is directed by Griff First.
Well, it said The First Brothers, but the name I recognize is Griff First, because number one, he's the son of Stephen Furst, the guy in Animal House, Flounder.
He was also the deputy in Silent Rage with Chuck Norris.
So, his son, you know, makes films.
So, I think there's more than one, cuz they it did say The First Brothers.
Griff First, he whether with his brother or not, they did like Ghost Shark, and I think Lake Placid 3, and notoriously bad filmmakers. The only film I gave an iota of [ __ ] to was a film called I Am Omega, which is the Asylum version of I Am Legend, for two reasons. Number one, Mark Dacascos starred in it, and I'm a big Mark Dacascos fan. It was cool to see him fighting zombies.
Martial arts kicking, killing zombies.
There's some fun to be had for me. And he fights some of them off with nunchucks. It's a short scene, Sally, but you know, you give me at least brief Mark Dacascos fighting zombies with nunchucks, it's pretty cool. Again, should have been a much longer scene.
Like compared to other Asylum films, that's like the only one I could watch.
But other than that, just bottom of the barrel [ __ ] And this gets like a 2.something rating to be, I could see why. Cuz the characters are aggravating, completely annoying, with terrible dialogue, trying so hard to be funny and failing.
The CGI, at times it seems like they're trying to make the dogs with AI.
And then sometimes it's really, really subpar CG.
And maybe they're trying to be like a Sharknado, like trying to be that that goofy tone that Sharknado would have.
And it's like, okay, let's have one of the characters down on the boat, the dog is hanging on to a rope, right next to one of the characters who's on another rope.
And here's a dog, they throw it over there, they throw it into helicopter blades, or they throw it into the water and a shark eats it.
It makes it sound much more fun and epic than it is, though.
Cuz this has very, very poor editing.
Sometimes it look like it was edited in a meat grinder.
The characters are insufferable. They are influencers from TikTok, YouTube, whatever the case.
So, they're trying to talk in very over-the-top, look I'm an influencer, look listen to my jargon, my vocabulary.
One guy gets bit maybe with rabies and his whole running gag is he keeps asking for the Wi-Fi.
You got the Wi-Fi? Where's the Wi-Fi?
Where the Wi-Fi?
And I didn't look up the actors. I think some of them were in this movie called Fall.
That I think I remember watching and you know what?
Indifferent you know I'm in between on.
The one I truly recognized was Hayden Panettiere.
And I might have butchered her name, but she was in Scream 4. She was in the video game Until Dawn.
She would come back in Scream 6.
What the [ __ ] happened to her?
Is there some kind of medical condition I don't know about?
And if so, that's very, very sad to hear.
Or did she completely let herself go?
She I mean I'm not trying to be rude, but she's fatter.
She looks like she had stuff done to her face.
Her role, she's talking like this sweet type of voice.
And I'm like and she has an extended cameo. She's at the beginning of the film.
Then she's at the very end of the film to come in and save the day.
But what? Like I liked her as an actress. Like Until Dawn, she was good in that, the video game. Not talking about the movie.
But what the [ __ ] happened? What happened to her? I'm sincerely asking.
Is there I guess is Being sincere, what is there some medical thing that I don't know about?
Cuz that's what it looks like. If not, then she turned into the cottage cheese.
That's the best way to put it.
She went from a hot lady to cottage cheese.
So, the plot of the film 13 years ago, there's a movie being made of the breed.
And Hayden is the star. She's like an action star.
And she's talking in the vein of "I'm all about like action, okay?
So, like pig blood? We don't do pig blood, really? Oh, yes, they asked."
So, just have her act in an annoying manner.
While I'm watching going, "What happened to her?"
While that's happening, there's dog trainers. The dogs, they're not paying attention.
You're doing a shitty job when you have your dogs wander into a [ __ ] cave and get bit by a bat.
Cuz one of them finds like a CG awful-looking like digital CG bat on the dog's face and they just kind of Now, I don't know if somehow I guess it somehow infected all the dogs. We only see the one dog.
But I guess maybe got all the other dogs, too.
Anyway, the dogs go crazy.
They kill the trainers.
You don't really see anything that gory with the whole thing.
And this is where you start noticing like there's real dogs in the film.
Don't get me wrong.
But some of them looks like either they had AI mess with it.
And then there's some that's just more digital.
It just doesn't look right and it doesn't look good.
Then just cuts to 13 years later.
So it doesn't cut to the company, the film production trying to look for the the the trainers.
Oh, we got to shut things down. We got to get the [ __ ] out of dodge. Ain't nothing between. No, it just cuts away.
So it's kind of an awkward cut.
And some want to be Mr. Beast type of guy has his has the island.
So he must know about the stories. He knows that there's dogs running around.
In fact, his goal is I'm going to pick influencers.
About five or so.
Content creators.
And then I'm going to bring them to the island and I'll be like the hot Willy Wonka.
I'll be like Timothy Chalamet, not like that old weird guy.
Well, are you talking about Gene Wilder?
Are you talking about Johnny Depp?
But yeah, if you have to call yourself the hot Willy Wonka, you're already on my [ __ ] list.
Now the content creators, there's a girl who does like beauty tips.
And she says these little machinations she created to powder her face or such.
There's the big farmer guy who his deal he's a black guy, but he's got all these farm clothes and he's on a tractor.
And then you have this other guy who's more of the [ __ ] of the group. And then you have I'm trying to think.
There's though that one.
Da da da I just really the the last two is a brother and sister team where the sister she's the lead character.
And she kind of doesn't really want to go to this whole island thing. And the brother's like, "No, no, come on, let's go." And they'll do stuff where let's bake a cake and "You look at the camera and I'll be your arms." Just It's really trying to satirize. It's really trying to parody content creator YouTube social all that stuff.
First off, I find a lot of that [ __ ] annoying already.
So, I get that could be ripe for parody.
Only it's not really that witty or clever or or inventive with it.
It goes just long enough or far enough just make them [ __ ] annoying and irritating.
They get to the island.
The guy kind of introduces them. The only help he has is this chick who her goal is like to get high all the time, it seems.
And she's aboard cuz you find out later she is the sister of Hayden's character.
But then he kind of tells them and the story kind of is fairly messy because it's like bringing up stuff like about how this area there's like all these contraptions that you can get from here to here of the island and he's showing like what's like a hologram that there's going to be parts of the island like a monorail type of thing.
That never comes into play. It's never in the film. It's never brought up in the film again. It's never shown. So I don't know why the hell they brought up in the first place.
And then his idea is that he put cameras all around.
But we never really see the cameras.
Does that Okay, they're mentioned they have cameras all around. That means there's going to be parts that look like a not found well I guess I see found footage. You know what the found footage films where they utilize security footage.
So it's going to be parts of the film where we're going to cut to security footage so we see the point of view. No, it never [ __ ] does that. It never goes as far as I can see. It never as far as I can remember, it doesn't go like these multiple angles of footage.
So then why the [ __ ] did he even bring that up?
And the goal is to rescue these dogs and by rescuing the dogs you win the deed to the island.
As a well number one, what kind of dogs are these?
Number two, this guy like doesn't realize that these are deadly dogs.
And the the people that you want to capture them are content creators.
Like okay, if you had a guy that went out there and Okay, are there people who are in veterinarians and dog catchers and but they do YouTube. Does everyone A lot of people do YouTube. A lot of different kinds of people do YouTube. So, maybe from that walk of life and they they have different channels and they show their version of catching animals. Like maybe that could play up comedy more, goofiness more, silliness more of how different I get vets or dog you know, how people utilize YouTube or TikTok in their professional field.
All right, just I don't really get the lead the the the head guy's plan.
These people that know nothing about rescuing dogs, they'll go go out there try to rescue dogs, dogs that you know which you have some captured cuz they're in cages. Some of them are.
Like some of them are in cages cages.
So, how did you catch them before?
Did you have people? If so, why don't you have that people there just in case something happens?
So, some dogs he has cages. I guess the others are out there.
For some reason he thinks it's going to be a good [ __ ] show.
Which I'm like, "No."
But, at one point the lead girl goes to one of the cages and then a CGI dog [ __ ] stares at her.
And instead of running back into the building that she's right next to, she runs off into the middle of the [ __ ] woods at night. I'm like again, we just saw you come down from the building and then turn a corner and you're looking at the cages.
But, instead of just going back, you go into the [ __ ] woods into the middle of nowhere when you were told there's going to be there's dogs running around for you to rescue.
So she's an idiot.
Eventually she tells them it looks like they have rabies. I thought I saw four foaming.
People freaked out. Wait a minute, what's the deal here?
They have guy the hot Willy Wonka is like, "Oh, no, no, everything's fine."
But then he goes up and he gets attacked. I mean, you don't really see much in terms of gore, bloodshed, guts being ripped out, throats being ripped out, nothing of that sort.
And then the other five kind of run off.
Cuz the other lady who gets high, she just she's not in the film for a bit.
And the other five are trying to survive.
They're trying to survive the herky-jerky editing.
They're trying to survive the dogs in their CGI glory running through the the glass door to try to attack them or they hide and one of them tries to go through a window and he just holds this broken bottle and the dog jammed his muzzle in it.
There's a puppy and they grab the puppy who's trying to attack them and they throw it around and and kick it.
You know, if you actually utilize more of the charm and practical nature, puppets, fake stuff, animals, maybe that could kind of work in the goofy your bad movie charm.
I just don't think CGI is as charming in a bad way as practical is.
And the editing of this at times, like when the dog goes through the glass like door or whatever and it'll cut to this person, this person, there's the dog, this is but I'm like, what the [ __ ] going on? If Again, it felt like someone took the scene and just told Edward Scissorhands There's a bit later on a boat where someone's got like a You think it's a gun but it's a paint gun.
paintball gun And she's shooting here.
They cut to her on the ground doing this. They cut to her over here.
And there is just like I'm here.
Imagine if I edit and all of a sudden I'm over here.
Then next edit, I'm down, >> [clears throat] >> you know, it was here.
You'd be like, what the [ __ ] What's up with that editing?
That was done repeatedly.
Probably to hide their low budget, the [ __ ] that they couldn't I don't know.
To hide their crap [ __ ] filmmaking.
Some stuff happens. Uh two of the guys go to the cell tower and they climb up and the dog is there and they try to do some stuff and fry some of the dogs and you just imagine how bad it looks with the CGI additions.
The the ladies go find the druggy lady and she has the [ __ ] idea to use a flare from the the flare gun and she [ __ ] up one time. She shoots another, it hits the base. I guess the idea is that the flare is also a [ __ ] exploding round. I don't know if it hit what it hit to explode. Did it hit a barrel full of gasoline?
Again, flare guns are not grenade launchers.
But it there's an explo- I don't know what it hit. It's something explodes. I guess killed the dogs.
Some of them.
But it also brings the cell tower down.
And again, bad editing to hide cuz we can't really have the whole [ __ ] thing fall. We can't really do that heavy stunt work. So really hurt the jerky editing to hide most of that.
Some of them get back to the girls.
Uh Violet is the lead girl's name. Her brother's been bitten and he's the one that throughout the whole film he just drawdy acting like he's drawn and goes, "Yeah, the Wi-Fi?
Where is the Wi-Fi?" Like he won't shut up about it for the entire [ __ ] film.
So he just become completely useless.
So as they try to figure out what to do they get into a Jeep.
Um At one point the the jerk off guy he had gotten bitten and he starts changing. He starts acting like a dick.
And there's times where like he's trying to act like an [ __ ] and then he gets you think killed by the dogs, but he shows up much later on to cause more you know, it's one of those where you get they figure they had to have a human antagonist as well as the animals themselves.
The rest of them are in a Jeep.
Um I think like the brother character [ __ ] off, so the the black guy try to go out and help.
But God, try to remember. Was it the brother character Was it the brother character or the Yeah, I can't remember.
I think so.
And then he Yeah.
The brother character [ __ ] off.
Whatever the [ __ ] I don't give a [ __ ] Why am I trying to add like rationally with this goddamn [ __ ] movie?
Breed apart.
Try to think of something clever or my brain cells died.
They came apart.
Spread ass cheeks apart and breed something.
Rather be doing that than just watching this [ __ ] I'll breed this, breed you, breed everything. I [ __ ] everything that moves.
>> [snorts] >> Make these [ __ ] berserkers.
Anyway, sorry. Lost it there for a minute. Lost it there for a Losing it.
Lost my mind there for a minute. Sorry.
Sometimes you just watch these [ __ ] movies and you don't What a waste of time.
Whatever little money they had and other crap. Hayden, like she's She's at the very beginning. She appears like once or twice in the middle cuz that's when you find out that she's the sister of the druggy girl.
And there's like one little message they really get out and Hayden got the message.
And she thinks oh well, my sister's with that guy and he's trying to do this and [ __ ] around and all the signal's lost. I have a feeling that might have happened. And the dialogue where she's saying "overcooked Insta-fuckery."
That's worse than the [ __ ] I make up when trying to make an insult.
The three girls in the Jeep, the black girl who again was making the Her deal is like to make these contraptions with the beauty tips, but she doesn't really get to utilize it that much throughout the rest of the film.
It's maybe once or twice it's briefly mentioned, but you think, "Okay, she's maybe she's going to make some homemade weapons, homemade stuff to fight the dolls with?" No, not really.
But her, the lead, and the Jordy girl, they go they take the Jeep off this cliff. Really bad green screen.
They go down to the water. They get to this boat. That's where you get the bit where one of them's on one rope, and the dolls somehow get on another rope.
And they I think they shoot it in the mouth with a flare or something like that.
While they're on the boat, that's where the the jerk-off guy comes back, the brother comes back.
The jerk-off guy throws the black girl into the water, and eventually she falls to the water, and gets killed by the dolls in the water.
Uh they kill the jerk-off guy. They wound the brother.
The The two left, the lead and the Hayden sister, don't know what to do.
But then Hayden comes in in a helicopter, and she becomes John Wick.
It only against the dolls. So, she's shooting one dog, she throws one dog into the helicopter blades, she punches or kicks one to the water and a shark comes out of nowhere to get it.
She shoots one.
She takes a lemon and stabs one, stabs another, clears pretty much all the dogs out.
Gets the survivors, the two ladies and the drill's brother into the helicopter.
As they're flying, she tosses a grenade.
And if this sounds stupid, it is stupid.
If this sounds out of the blue, it is out of the blue. If somehow, someway, some form this sounds cool to you, it's not because of the bad editing, the the shallow special effects.
And again, you just keep watching.
Hayden Panettiere is like the the craziest special effect.
As in what the [ __ ] happened to her?
I don't mean to be mean to her.
I'm just like just if something's serious and people got to be upfront and honest about it.
She flies them out to safety.
And then the poor black guy, he didn't do anything wrong. He tried to help.
And he's like, "Don't go."
And then there's some dogs left growling at him. And then he starts growling, so I guess the fact he's now he's got the rabies cuz or he's been bit.
And then that's it.
So I guess they tried to have like a sequel bait ending.
And I'm like, "Wow, that guy didn't deserve his fate. That's kind of [ __ ] up."
The black guy gets [ __ ] over again.
And then it shows a bunch of bloopers.
And hey, it looks like they had fun making it. I wish I had fun watching it.
Listen, there's so many other killer dog films out there. When you have Cujo, when you have the the original The Breed, even films like Man's Best Fr- [ __ ] friend. Man's Best Friend Can't even talk right. F- F- f- f- f- to- to- to- today's shooter.
F- frigid Man's Best Friend from the '90s, there's a '70s film The Pack, there's all sorts of other killer dog films.
Hell, there's even it's not quite a killer dog film, but there was a movie with I think it was John Malkovich and Aiden uh Adrien Brody.
It had a really dumb title, but it wasn't too bad of a film.
Bullet Head.
Which again is a very stupid title for a film.
Uh Rory Culkin, Antonio Banderas is in it.
I thought that was all right. It's It's three people who rob the place, things go wrong, they have to hide in this like warehouse or whatever, and then there's this dog that was used in fighting ring that was left for dead, but he it's not dead and chases after them.
I mean, it's not all about that, so it's not quote a killer dog film, but it does have an attack dog in it.
And even I would say that's better than this.
It's called Bullet Head with Adrien Brody.
My point is there's plenty of other avenues you can watch and take part in.
Dog [ __ ] editing terrible It was not the acting, just the writing and annoying influencer characters that try so hard to be funny that it does the opposite.
Terrible CG on a lot of the dogs and some of them it's it may look practical, but I might something about them seems more AI.
I'm not sure AI was used in the film, but I'm just saying that's what it appears at times to be.
And like it wants to be very silly and stupid like a short dated film, but then I just came off as more poorly made and cringe.
There's a lot of issues with this film.
So yeah, this film blows dogs for quarters and dimes and nickels and pennies. Well, there's no more pennies. That's where all the pennies went.
Pennies disappeared. Pennies are gone now because of this movie. I'll blame I'll blame this movie. Why not?
No offense, but yeah.
[ __ ] this movie.
Terrible and pardon the pun, dog [ __ ] So we'll see you guys later.
Bye-bye for now.
Make like a distinct face for the thumbnail.
Whatever.
