The BEST car show in Europe? EMWalhalla, The Netherlands - blew my mind! Over 1100 cars!Added:
It is not even lunchtime yet and my brain is just absolutely scrambled. So, it's a concept car.
>> Yes.
>> But, uh, one that appears to be fully functional. Welcome to AM Valhalla where um, interesting vehicles are all around.
We've just arrived. We're just in the queue to get in at the moment. It's exciting, folks. This is going to be absolutely epic. One of the best car shows in Europe without shadow of a doubt.
So, we're now in the queue to get into Elme Vardig and a British Toyota Starlet in front of us. But, uh, yeah, all manner of very lovely cars, there's a Chevrolet Corvette convertible. Oh, no.
Well, hopefully the uh BMW will cool down again. It looks like it's just popped a hose off or something. That was very dramatic. It was all just steam, but uh yeah, we should carry on.
There's the Corv with its flat 6 engine at the back.
I am here in the Netherlands. I'm going to drive another Corv, not that one.
I see an early Sal 9000 B.
So much fun. Oh, so the Thunderbird is on um air, I think.
So that's fun. Or hydraulics maybe. But yeah, there's an early SA 9000 up there.
This is going to be awesome. Right, let's go. going then cuz there is so much to see here at um AM Valhalla. Uh I don't even know where to start but uh oh we're going to start over here. Let me flip the camera. Here's a car I've driven but it's changed color. Uh so this is Mark uh in his uh Rover 800 I think.
And it was a sort of metallic bronze links bronze I think it was. Uh but now it is white so that's good. The whole road I had to. We'll get there. Don't worry. Um, yeah. Americana. Another T-Ird. Buick.
Uh, lovely. Ian, hello. Working hard already.
I'm staying with my friends Ivan and Patrick later. The Datu Sherard. This is the next generation. We didn't get this.
The L700, I think it is. So, that's the next sold here as a Quar, but effectively the Sherad we never got. We got lots of Brits here. uh gay class car group are uh represented, but uh they've all come from the UK. They're raising money for the RNLI. Compare your visas.
Why not? Uh is that is that your own driven? It might be. Uh we got Audi A2, BMW E34 5 series, uh Martin's Maxi. In fact, that is Martin right there enjoying the view of the cars coming in.
Good old multipler.
Uh let's go down the line.
>> Hello, sir.
>> Hello. How you doing? very well.
>> Oh, Citroen XM.
Uh, Renault 10 with the engine in um, keep cool mode.
Love it. Citroen Ammy. Lovely. Uh, Opal Mariva. And we're walking past all these lots. We got all these British cars here as well. It's the last Cavalere ever made. We've seen that before at shows.
Rover 75. with Mitsubishi Charisma made here at the Ned car plant in the Netherlands. Another Mazda 121 that's the fourth one I think Citroen ZX MGF uh Ford Fiesta saw this Alpine coming into the Alpine and the Proton uh Mazda MX6 Fiat Temper Estate Toyota Star we followed in lovely Honda Accord.
Uh let's keep going folks. This car's coming at us from all angles here. Look at this little um thing. I think this belongs to we're at um uh Lman College apparently. Uh so Toyota importers of many years, the Lman family. And uh yeah, this is one of their little wagons that they're using for just keeping an eye on everything. More visas. Uh, Mitsubishi Lancer, Renault Twingingo, Citroen ZX, a convertible Mini.
Love it. A Mazda something. I don't even know what Mazda is. Rover 400. Very early Rover 400 from the UK.
Uh, Volkswagen Pat.
Uh, Subaru Lavorg, I think that is.
Hello. More Brits. We've invaded it in mass this time. Yeah. Look at that.
Zantia Activa. Lovely.
Um the Alfrao. Is that the um Alfetta?
It is an Alfetta. Go me. I actually remembered. I think we saw that last time. Uh I think these were built in the Netherlands as well. Mitsubishi. It's got Shogun on the rear trims.
Intriguing. Star Wagon. We'd call it Renault Cleo with all the lac appeal.
Perfect. Mazda 323F.
Uh, another Ammy.
Always good to see Amy's in good numbers. Almiratino, a Citroen DS. I I don't even know what that is. A C5X apparently, whatever one of them is.
Uh, lovely Lexus just wafting into the show. And another Buick, which is fine contrast with this um tiny little Autobian Bianina over here.
That is gorgeous. I love the wheels.
So, uh Oh, there's still more on the way. So, let's just hold fast. Uh near the dreaded Dremele, uh is the Dutch for speed. Look, here come all of the Copens. This happened last year. The copen's all coming in together.
Love it.
How many copens in a queue can you have?
Apparently a great many. Do they look bigger if I come lower or should I go really really high up?
Wonderful. So many copens. A Toyota Tursel hatchback. So, it's Toyota's first sort of mainstream front-wheel drive car. Uh, obviously we know the four-wheel drive estate version, but this is the front-wheel drive hatchback.
So, great to see a little panda. Minty fresh panda. This is something else at this show. Um, the cars are often in just simply stunning condition.
So, that's lovely.
Beautiful.
and Peugeot 304 cabriolet that is a delight styled by pinning firina uh another Audi A2 uh very popular here. So let me tell you more about this show and why it's absolutely epic. Uh it's organized by a group called Elk Vadig and that is Dutch for every brand worthy. So it's a bit like Rustville. It's the ethos of Rustville. helped inspire us to do that show. It's just like whatever you've got, bring it in. And uh this is kind of where that idea first came to fruition for us really. They call it AM Valhalla because the W is a V um in Dutch. Look at this gorgeous Renault traffic.
That's Xfire perhaps. Lovely. Peugeot 607. So yeah, you just get all manner of stuff and so much of it is in just absolutely lovely condition and it's stuff you just don't see in the UK. Like we've got uh Volkswagen Shorocco 16 valve. You might see one of those about SA 93 is getting rare. Twingo. People are starting to bring Twingo over to the UK now. This one appears to have come from Germany. That's awesome. And look at this. Datsu Move. Uh it's a facelift.
Uh we didn't get that seems to have come from France. Uh so the Datsu move that that's effectively the evolution of Desmond the Parajogua Canari.
So uh appears to have come all the way from France. We take a look as he drives past. Oh, it doesn't sound very happy.
Oh no. Oh, it's a facelift of the previous generation of Desmond, in fact.
Wow. Um another SA 93. This is the second ute I've seen here. So, this one's come from Belgium. Right hand drive. Um, Aussie ute.
Love it. Seat bea mark one. Wonderful.
Alfa Romeo. Um, is that a 90?
It is a 90 in. So, presumably injection.
Uh, the IFA is a chrono special edition with catalyza.
There's the holding. And that sounds like it's got the V6, which might be an Ecote Tech in that. I think that's a VE.
Uh, we got Lancia Dedra, Volvo 340, uh, Polo GT bread van, Mark 1 BX showing that excellent suspension as it just floats its way across the field. That's a GT, so it's got the 1.9 L non-fuel injected engine. Uh, Volvo 480s. I follow one here, my friend Robert, who's loaned me his S70.
Wonderful. And uh yeah, Rover 75. Wow.
Let's go and see what's already here.
Gorgeous. Rena doofine.
Absolutely beautiful rear engine like that 10 we saw earlier. The 10 was the end of that line. Honda Accord in brown.
I feel we may well have seen that. Japan Classic Sunday. And uh Civics. Uh I think this one was behind us as we came in. Civics together.
And then we got a concerto uh built at the uh Longbridge plant next to the Rover 200s of which it obviously shares a body shell. Honda Prelude, two wipers on a lefthand drive Prelude. We only had singles. And uh it's the Honda Oh, come on. Brain Element. That's the one. Johnny Smith late break show's got one of those. Uh Accord in hatchback form. Oh, yes. Honda NBOX RS for some K car goodness. or N1, sorry.
Honda CRX and uh a much later Civic.
Lovely shade of blue. Hello.
Right, we're going to walk into the show now. The uh entrance seems a little more sporadic and we'll go and see what other goodies there are.
Mercedes C126, very fine car. Citroen DS, almost a bit ordinary for here. Nissan Sunny estate.
Uh, Citroen CX next to another Tino Toyota Corina Peugeot 505. Alansia Feta is that one?
I don't know cuz we didn't get those in the UK. Uh, BMW 3 series, another A2 and uh XM uh Opal Cadet, of course, a Vauxilastra to us or a Pontier Lemon to some of you American folks. Yeah. Wow. I need to find out what this red thing is because I have no idea whatsoever. Oh, Puma GT from Brazil.
This is the real magic of this show. You will just see stuff you have not seen before.
>> Wow. Look at that. Puma GT600.
Astonishing. Uh here's the Volvo 480 belongs to Robert. So, he's got two cars here. I've helped him achieve that dream. The very low Thunderbird we followed in uh oh the Nissan Bluebird.
We've seen this at Japan Classic Sunday.
Not only has it got headlamp wipers, it's got the electric lifting fog lamp covers as well. Uh on one of my Japan Classic Sunday reports, we've seen those in action. Uh another Bluebird.
Uh Nissan Cedric or probably a 300C. Uh, I love the MR2 with the Lambo doors.
Volkswagen XL1. Uh, the hybrid with a two-cylinder diesel engine. Uh, Renault Espath. I think we didn't get those in the UK.
Uh, not that generation. Anyway, we got a Glaz here. So, Glaz was a company that got bought by BMW. And I think the coupe versions of these did end up with BMW badging. So, that's fascinating. Toyota Karina 2. Thanks.
>> We got Opal Record Orion >> next to Sapphiro, which is um Japanese market. Um oh, come on. Nissan Maxima.
My brain's struggling already, folks. Uh Twingo, very very blue. Opal Blitz. So, the Blitz was actually put on vans. Uh even the Bedford TF was sold as an Opal Blitz, which seems quite ironic given what we did to them. Uh little um Toyota Starlet just lovely SAB 900 demonstrating the unusual bonnet.
Testing your Dutch. Can you understand folks? Citroen CX Turbo. So, not only do you get the turbo motif on the bonnet here, they repeat it on the wheels.
That's very, very cool. Another Twingo, a C3, but with your sort of street wise trim. Fiat Chroma.
Oh my days. This is going to be quite the day.
Boxel Omega Fiat.
>> Uh I don't even notice Crown or Athlete.
One of those I think. Uh the Opal Speedster.
GT2000 is what it's bad. It's based on a Pontiac. I think 2 L turbo engineered by Lotus and built in Delaware uh in America.
Miniatur.
>> So it's the to the Cleo little Opal. Is that a record?
>> I love the stickers.
This is Good. This is history.
A Cadet slightly smaller. I should know.
I've driven one of those. But an interesting comparison with the uh Sima 1100 estate next to it. That's lovely.
Citroen Zara, Porsche 944. We've got an Opal Diplomat.
I think here we never got those in the UK. Enormous Cadillac dwarfing the big Opal. Uh Chrysler 300C. Uh more modern Cadillac. Uh the facelifted Fiat Chroma.
Yeah, he just goes on, folks. I I Yeah. Traband FSO Polynes later sold as a caro in some markets. Uh, another Twingo. Uh, another Lancia. Is that a Kappa? Slightly smaller than the Feta, I think.
See if we've got any badges on the back.
Oh, this is the Theta. I think I could be misreading that quite easily.
I love the XM with the um Moretti. Is it Moretti six headlamp conversion?
That is very, very cool. S 900. Another twingo daff 66. You think there'd be more dafts at a Dutch car meet? And XM next to a Mark 1 Mondo and a Toyota Corolla AE82 taxi.
Wonderful. Oh, and Lancia Fulvia um Zagato, I think that is uh sports car body. There's a Lantia Beta parking up next to a Volkswagen 411 over there.
Um, this is the uh lovely GS estate, the Subaru SVX. It's got over 300,000 km on it and belongs to Art, one of the organizers. And this is his classic caravan, Bessie.
Look at it in here.
Wow.
loves his classic caravans.
Look at that.
Kia Claris.
Where else would that get welcomed at a car show? Oh, and look at this.
A TRD.
I love it. Yaris Verso.
I wonder if it's got fun cargo badges on the back.
Sold as fun cargo in Japan.
Uh, yes.
I thought it might fun cargo.
>> I assume they didn't actually do a TRD version. Someone's just having a bit of fun. But uh yeah, I like that a lot. And that's next to gorgeous purple lotusan M100. Uh Hyundai get Nissan Cube.
Uh we got the little um Subaru. We've seen this. This actually came to the festival of the unexceptional one. Yeah.
And it's got a folding roof that folds in the back. Subaru Vivia. Look how tiny it is next to the cube.
Rena 14. Oh my gosh, this show just gets better and better. A purple Chrysler Neon next to a Toyota Aventus next to an AX next to a panard.
Oh my gosh. Mazda 626. One wonders if it has fourwheel steering. Maybe 206 coupe convertible. Uh so it's a crown athlete.
So there you go. I was right. Sort of.
Uh this is um Patrick's um Nissan Cedric. We drove that um a few years ago or I suppose technically a Datson Cedric. And uh it's had a lot of work since I drove it. So it's lovely to see that again. And uh this is um Evans uh Infiniti next to it. I always have a difficult choice uh deciding what to bring. I'm staying with them tonight, so look forward to that. And uh little panda there. But yeah, amazing. And there's still cars coming in. So I need to go and refresh.
So yeah, Volkswagen Type 4. Uh not T4.
T4 is a transporter. This is a type 4.
It was the largest development of the Beetle platform. Um with I think 1.7 L often fuel injected flat 4 engine at the back, which I know doesn't seem ideal for a variant uh and a state car. So the floor is quite high in the back cuz the engine's underneath it.
>> There you go. It's a 411E. So E for fuel injection.
>> Hello. Uh that is absolutely adorable.
Datu Charan next to a Sangyong Chiron.
Phrases you didn't think you'd ever hear yourself say, but it's effectively a Toyota uh really with um mild reworking to make a a Dhatsu charm on. And oh sorry, Action is the uh the Sangyong, not Chiron. So, uh, yeah, there you go.
Suzuki, Valeno, Mazda 626, uh, over here, Citroen, uh, Sinclair C5s, uh, stuff you can buy.
>> Oh, this is new. Yeah, they didn't have so many trade stands at the last one.
And, uh, oh, Restoods and Engineering of V radios.
Love it.
Model cars because of course. And then yeah, you've got the museum that you can go and explore as well, which has got some incredible mostly but not exclusively Toyotas because like I say um it was um uh the Lelman family were Toyota importers, the first I believe in the Netherlands and they stuck with Toyota all this time.
We got a Bugatti sitting out here in the sun. I'm feeling myself drawn in folks.
I think we're going to have to go and have a look.
Yes. So, feast your eyes on these rare Toyotas. 1958 Land Cruiser, 63 Land Cruiser. Um, looks like a some sort of special for Dhakar Rally.
Um, 1987.
There we go. So, it's a Corona early Hilux 1979. Look at the camper. Hi camper.
So, like I said, the Lman family have an amazing um museum of all makes uh in the H where I went about 7 8 years ago uh me and my friends and got utterly overwhelmed. Uh it was just too much to see. So, there you go. There's the details. Lman Museum.
Yeah. If you want to see my report from 3 years ago, I went around this museum in much more detail. This one always makes me laugh. It's a Toyota classic.
It kind of like someone tried to make a PT Cruiser, but it's on Toyota Hilux running gear, so it's got leaf springs at the back. Genuine old car feel. Uh Toyota IQ RAV 4 EV, a Suzuki car, which is a badge engineered autoam AZ1. So, it's K car mid-mounted three-cylinder engine and Gwing doors.
And uh unfortunately, it is very dark in here, but uh yeah, I'm not going to go through the whole museum. Suffice it to say, it is incredible. Let's get back to the show. So, here is the Australian section of the show. Um sadly, I was here in my Australian forward last time I was here, but uh not this time. Uh so we got Commodores variously um in ute and saloon form. Uh they are quite Europeans are quite into their holdings generally. So quite a few do come over here even though obviously the steering wheel is on the wrong side. Uh so this one's an SV6 uh which I think has the Ecote Tech V6 but I could be wrong. It might be the old Buick derived one. Um a Maloo R8.
We've driven one of those in Australia in a lurid purple and the bloke used it as a builder's van. Awesome. And then uh yeah, another Holden with some very big wheels on it. Uh we got smarts as far as I can see. All manner of smarts and uh a right mix as well. We got the 44s. The 44s were made here cuz they're Mitsubishi Colts. So they were built in the Ned car factory here in the Netherlands. Uh the smarts uh otherwise built in the French Smart factory. UK Smart has come over. Brilliant. So yeah, a great mix. Uh we got the Rovers.
They're the 800 again. And this beautiful Sharper. I love this Sherper camper. I love the side indicators which look like pure Dutch fitment. And uh yeah, look at that luxurious vinyl.
The scorchier backside and there's some very interesting cars over here. A Rena4 van.
That's lovely. Darty.
And we got Peugeot. Variously more even more cops and datus. We'll get to those.
And uh 309s.
Is that a Mahindra?
A Dallas apparently.
Um interesting. Looks like it uses um frontwheel drive drivetrain. I' never heard of a Dallas, but there we are.
Presumably, it's Peugeot running here if it's in the Peugeot lineup. Uh 205 convertible. And look at this prototype Peugeot 309 estate. It's from the 205309 Museum Netherlands, which um is near the Visha collection, I think, where I have been before. But I believe this is actually a Herz uh development prototype. They said we could make this for you. Yes, there you go. Eier France design. And you'll note it's got um two doors on this side, but it's only got one door on that side.
Unfortunately, when the company went bust, all the cars got sold off and scattered to the winds. So, I love that this has survived and made it to this very important museum. So, if you're coming to the Netherlands, find this museum. Like I say, it's next to the Vissa uh collection. I think it is. I forget the town. Uh but I have been there and it is awesome. They were just redeveloping the 205309 museum, so I couldn't visit last time I was here. And uh yeah, let's go run down the datus. Uh we're going to see many a copen materia or coup on the home market. Uh this is a trevous again developed from the core platform and uh a little core next to it and datu move a much later one. So effectively this is a much younger Desmond. Our barrage canari developed from the move. A lovely sherad.
And then we got copens all day long.
That's beautiful. Lovely cory there. Uh we saw that coray coming in earlier. And we got all the copens.
And then over this side another copen.
Love that. That is really nice. Uh, a very customized material and a Shira GT TI.
Wow.
I love this show.
Oh, we love this. The Suzukis are late arriving. Uh, look at the little cappuccino.
Uh, an Alto behind it. Much modified.
Love them little wheels.
Uh, a K works fulltime four-wheel drive.
There's a Swift. I think that one uh SJ obviously we know the SJS and very modified X90. Love that. I also love how many female owners you get at this show as well. Lovely Manta.
Uh, is that a replica or is it a genuine 400? Who knows? That was the rally uh version. Let's go and look at the Hond's, shall we? That's not Honda.
That's a Honda Acti. Uh, proper K truck.
Uh, we got the Auto Zams, Mitsubishi Charisma, and uh, yeah, I think we saw a lot of these Hondas coming in. Very cool. Honda Matic. Uh, it's kind of like a planetary gear set. It's very complicated, but uh yeah. Wow. Absolutely loving all of this uh the S800.
Fantastic. absolutely tiny sports cars and from factory four carburetors and it's a 791cc engine I think overhead cam roller bearing crankshaft revs to the moon and uh yeah oh wow what a show uh oh look more diatus uh another Opal Cadet the panda convertible is Is that a homebrew?
I've got a company convert that. That's awesome.
Renault modus complete with boot chute.
So this inner section that you can actually open out so you can drop your shopping in. Um t2 Citroen Beiju. They only made 211 of those.
How typical that one should be here. And it had the perfect number plate. Look, it's got the original UK number plate in the back. BU.
That's incredible. So, it's developed from the 2CV platform, but back when the 2CV only had about 12 brake horsepower.
Uh, the body was designed by Peter Kerwin Taylor, who designed the Lotus Alan, and uh, it was built by Citroen UK in the slow factory. Um, but very unpopular because the fiberglass body was actually heavier than the 2CV's own body. So, it could go quicker cuz the aerodynamics were better, but the acceleration was Yeah. woeful. Like I say, 12 to 18 horsepower is about all they had. That's a spectacular spot.
Um, oh, we got one of these. Ah, come on, brain. You know who makes these. Is it Mega uh in France? Developed from the AX platform.
>> Yeah, there you go. Mega Club. That's one of many Renault wins here today. We got a Lada Vesta here. Another Suzuki Cappuccino coming in. Peugeot 505 GTI Citizen AX noticed the rear wiper different to UK market. We had straight rear wipers. Left hand drive always had a kinkedked rear wiper.
And uh yeah uh Datsu YRV uh is it a turbo? Easy way to tell. Have a look at the transmission. Oh, it's a manual and there's no bonnet scoop. Not a turbo. Another Citroen BX Mark1.
Another very low Suzuki coming in. And oh, look at this little It's a Cororey Max.
So, uh, little two-stroke engine. We We've driven a couple of those. Datu, um, Corore Max in this fellow Max in other markets. Oh my gosh. Uh, another enormous Cadillac, uh, Golf, Porsche 928, Hyundai, uh, of various types. uh Volvo 340.
It's a CVT one, folks. You can hear the the transmission system worring away in the back. Uh oh my gosh. Citroen H Van.
Um Oh, this area has grown somewhat since we were last here, folks. This could take a while. Uh Ford Escort. Uh got a Citroen BX Sport. It's the first sporty BX. had a chopped rear arches, twin carb engine. Uh yeah. Yeah. La indeed.
Uh we saw some of these coming in, but I don't think we saw all of these coming in. Uh so let's cut across cut through here past the Jeep Cherokee Peugeot 305 estate making us think 60 diesels immediately. Mondo just just hanging in the middle. Uh a Citroen. Oh, what are these called? Is it a deja vu kit car?
Um, possibly a lowmax deja vu, I think.
Could well be wrong on that. Uh, Twingo.
Love the dual lights.
Uh, DS. Next one. What Mercedes-Benz known as the ponton saloons.
Uh, very, very nice.
Oh, wow. Mark one at Spass. Mark 1 BX estate. Uh Fat 124, I'm going to say uh Tempera. Uh Chevy Spark, I think. Next to another Multiplier. Yeah, this this show just it just blows me away every time, folks.
There's a gaggle of multiplers over here. Now, uh we got a Zuk. It looks like it might have come all the way from Poland. It's a Polish um truck. Seaside Garage is um trying to work on one of those at the moment. It's got a 126 in the back. Incredible. Oh, look at this.
Alfa Romeo.
Um I've seen a picture of that on the internet because they didn't make any estate versions of that. And yet there is one. I think that may be a homebrew job. Another beef just chilling. It's a later Trabant with a water cooled Volkswagen Polo engine. Um yeah, purple multiplier. That is pretty awesome.
Oh, catching up with friends and uh back to it. Oh, another Mazda one. Another Mazda 121. They're everywhere. Renault Extra van. Um Citroen DS or maybe it's an ID, not a DS. Break. Uh yeah, Renault Saffron. Where have they all gone? But there's that intriguing Alfa Romeo.
Everyone is intrigued by it cuz like I say, I think that's a home built. It's even got a rem removable roof section.
Uh and uh I believe there are details about it online. So, do have a look. Uh, I'm pretty sure that is a DS. Um, but let's have a look. Yes, it's actually got a DS badge on it. Uh, we got uh is that a Chrysler Learon there, I think.
Has it got the headlamp covers? No, it's got the later front end. Earlier ones had pop-up flaps on the headlamps. Uh, Audi 100.
Uh, there's the 304 we saw come in earlier. Citroen BX Ambulance uh from BX Club Netherland. Uh, so that's quite intriguing. They've just extended the back end um a bit and the used Peugeot. Oh no, they are still the BX rear lights. There we go. It's been to the um International Citroen Car Club Rally in 2016 uh which is in the Netherlands. Uh yeah, this is just overwhelming. I'm exhausted and uh quite blown away. Mubishi Eclipse uh CRX Del Soul with some Lambo doors.
Oh my gosh, it just gets better and better, folks. Early Ford Sierra.
So, it's a Glanza or is it a Starlet?
Might just be a Starlet. Glansza was the Japanese turbocharged version. Opal Cra.
Uh, that's uh you just don't see CRAS at all anymore.
And uh I love the little chrome bumper bar on the front of it.
Oh, we love it. It's called Frank Frank Cra. So, it's got Opal engine, but it's an American um Pontiac Trans Sport. You remember the Dustbuster shape? This was like the next generation and sold in big numbers in America, but did not prove very popular in the UK. I have just asked for a wiper demonstration cuz my memory is they're quite violent.
>> Look at that.
the most violent wipers you will ever see.
>> Thank you, Will.
>> Brilliant.
>> Oh, it's a Sierra base.
Uh, so it's got the black grill. There is one of those just being restored in the UK, but it's actually got the 1.6 L engine. A Volvo Amazon next to it, next to another YRV.
Uh, SA 96 F Puntos come from the UK. Uh, Toyota Prius first generation. Uh Matt Furious Driving has just done a video on those. He always beats me to the nice cars. Uh Renault 5 Clan Crusader left-hand drive Clan Crusader based on um IllMP running gear.
>> That's a fantastic car. Uh Volvo Amazon.
Uh Chevrolet. Um Oh, it's the El Camino.
Is it the pickup version?
Uh another Toyota Starlet. Big Buick.
Yeah. Ford Town. German Ford. Uh they did actually sell a few of these in the UK. I think the Autobian now has lots of friends including a Mosvich uh from Russia. Um Peugeot 504 driving past another Toyota Yaris Versa over there. I bought the wrong car. Volvo Amazon Estate. Haynes Motoruseum sticker in it.
Uh another Renault Wind. But uh look yonder a Chrysler 180. Exceedingly rare car. Uh and that's next to a Renault 20 or 30.
Um I think it's a 20. It's got a slightly shorter nose on it. So the four-cylinder to come back to correct myself. It's not a 20. It is a V6 30 automatic complete with rear wiper.
>> Oh my days. This show folks.
Wow.
Another very green uh Volvo. That one got a manual transmission.
Uh Toyota again, I think. Yeah. Another a Karina uh next to uh Oldmobile.
>> Is it is it a Pontiac?
I love it. Whatever it is. I'm not very good on American cars. Another smart four. Um, yeah, another Lancia Dedra.
Gosh. And now it's now he's going over here. Holy smokes. And there's still cars pouring in. Oh well. Well, we need to go for more of a walk, folks.
>> I got so excited by the Opal Lone that I just dropped my phone. That's next to a Kia Stinger. Toyota Century. I think that might be a V12.
>> Hello.
>> Hello.
>> I like your channel.
>> Oh, thank you very much.
>> It's great.
>> Is it a V12?
>> It's a V12.
>> It's a V12. Lovely.
>> Beautiful car >> from Hamburg.
>> Well done. Thank you. Come all the way from Hamburg in his V12 Toyota Century.
>> Fantastic.
>> Oh, thank you very much.
>> Which car have you taken today?
>> I'm in a borrowed Volvo today. Volvo.
>> Yeah. Yeah, I flew in. So, >> superb.
>> See you later. Thank you.
>> Oh, people are lovely here. Uh, look at this gorgeous little Austin A35 van.
Beautiful. Another Multipler. Uh, little Fiat Coupe. And, uh, we got a Fiat 600D.
So, we tested a Zastava version a while ago and obviously I want to find a seat version now I live in Spain. Uh, oh, it's still running. Look at that.
So, the problem with the seats is they do have a habit of overheating because the radiator is here in the back. Notice the little fan go there. Sounds absolutely beautiful.
>> Lovely. Thank you.
>> Uh, Honda Civic fourth gen. Love those.
Oh, I love the uh Datsu YRV taxi. Uh so they got more modern cars. They're lining up at the back for the most part, I think. But oh my gosh, there's Is that a Hummer?
>> I think it is a Hummer. My gosh, I can see a BMC Fina over there. Gosh, this show just gets bigger and bigger.
Like I say, this this is probably one of my favorite shows in Europe. And I say that as an organizer of Rustable. Uh for me, this show inspired some of what we do at Rustville.
Look at that.
It's a massive V8 diesel engine. It's got portal axles, which means the hub is a bit below where the drive shaft goes in.
Amazing.
Fat or ladder?
Yeah, Zuli. I think it is a lauder version of the Fiat 124. Uh, look at this amazing four-wheel drive Jeep wagon ear with the uh wind down rear window. Another Renault wind says from Belingo Camper.
Hello.
>> Love it.
I I I'm constantly amazed how many people know who I am. It's I I'm in I'm in a foreign country. It's just amazing.
I also think I'm pleasure 607 coupe astonishingly lucky that I get to go around the world and do stuff like this.
Uh I'm going to come the other side cuz we're the wrong side of the sun. There we go. Opal Manta Berlinetta.
Lovely lovely uh Land Cruiser Turbo.
Lovely. So, we'll have a quick run around here and then I'm probably have to wrap things up cuz I'm just running out of um memory space at quite the rate of knots.
Uh BMW Z3s, including the uh funky hatchback version. Uh BMW 3 series convertible. Look at this Granada wagon.
Beautiful. Another Twingo. Uh a rather illuminated Citroen VX. Oh, that'll be a diesel.
Lovely.
And uh Subaru sambar cage truck. They got the engine at the back on those which I suppose helps with weight balance if nothing else. Uh Toyota Selika and yes it's a Wsley over there. Uh Fetta uh Citroen Zantia.
No, no problems with Dremeles if you got a Zantia. And uh we're going to have to run to the back wall because this is where the IFA stuff is hanging out. So this is your um uh Trabants and Vathbergs.
So again, that's a later Vartberg uh with the 1.3 L Volkswagen engine. And uh there's an earlier pair of Varts or three of them even. We still got the two-stroke one liter two-stroke engine.
And uh lovely. I need to film one of those. Is that That can't be another pummer. Surely not.
>> Two pummers at one event. It could only happen at Elk Mardik. Um, military daff.
That's amazing. I want that. Uh, I love the fact the wipers have a little link bar like an old British Roadster. Uh, presumably still CVT.
Yes. This has got the CVT continuously variable transmission.
Uh a Jeep of some sort and uh Russian uh I think Yaz possibly. But uh oh yeah, I'm worried I'm just missing more.
There's still more and more stuff coming in at 106. It's absolutely dreamy.
Uh yeah, this show just blows me away time after time.
Well, this is just getting quite ridiculous now. Uh, more British Land stuff. We got a lovely Maxi coming in.
>> That's lovely. Another Sherper left hand drive camper complete with standard rust. And look at this Bedford. Like I say, was sold as an Opal in some markets. That is absolutely incredible. I love that. Uh, Subaru Forester coming in behind it. Lad Samara, where have they all gone?
There's still cars pouring into this show. Where are they going to put them all?
>> There you go. Lada Samara, very rare.
Now, uh, Mitsubishi Lancer, four-door, non-EVO, uh, a Datu Shirad Saloon. These were quite popular here. Uh, Datsu Applause.
That's a facelift. We didn't get the facelift in the UK, so that's actually a hatchback.
And we got a little Polo Coupe.
Uh I think they badged them as.
And then a 2CV looking quite normal amongst all the weirdness. That's a bit of a weird thing to say. That one sounds lovely and smooth and just the way mine doesn't.
Look at this Citroen AX convertible.
That works really well.
>> Oh, that definitely has got a whiff of the older homebrew about it. That looks amazing.
Still lots of amazing cars coming in.
>> I completely missed that. It's a Goa mobile dart.
>> That's an extraordinary thing. It's got link wipers just like the ordinary golem mobiles did.
So go mobile is a little micro car and uh eat my smoke. Love it. Um I have a feeling were these built in Australia?
I think they might have been I think I saw one at a show in Paramata uh in um Australia.
That's just and I almost missed it. Uh Honda S660. Uh a load of Honda Beats.
Again, mid-engineed um K cars. Uh this one might show us the incredible access you get to the engine, which is pretty much none uh because it's down there.
Good luck. Uh, Lantia Feimmer or Tamer to pronounce it correctly. Panagramraph wiper moment.
And uh, Panda, another oh, a very early Chrysler Alpine. See what it's badged as cuz the Alpine name was used in the UK.
It couldn't be used in Europe because of Alpine. So, it's a Sima 1307.
Uh, that's what it is badged as over here.
So, lovely. uh effect lineage there because um the 306 followed on from the 309 which was meant to be a tool. Uh yeah, it all gets very complicated.
And uh is that the same ostand or another one? I don't know. They might have promoted it to be closer to the main area cuz it's so awesome. It can't be a second lot of land. It must be a different one. Yeah. Wow.
Wow. It is not even lunchtime yet and my brain is just absolutely scrambled. The uh it's just it's too much to process.
It's too much to take in. It's like when I went to the Lman Museum for the very first time. It's just absolutely overwhelming and you think I'm not giving each car enough time really. But uh it's hard. I I want to see everything. I want to try and drink it all in. And uh it's so hard when there's so much here that pushes what I know. is uh yeah like the Lancia Delta uh sold as a Chrysler uh in the UK cuz Lancia had left the market but they they bought them in anyway and badged them as Chryslers uh and then Chrysler left the market as well. Uh yeah, everywhere you go there is just amazing stuff. Uh we have even that's a Lancia Kappa I think uh TVR represented.
U crown estate I think but I don't know.
Lancia Delta. Uh the generation we didn't get cuz Lancia left the UK market in 1993.
It's uh it's astonishing this show. Wow.
I'm pretty sure I filmed this last time we were here. Uh Reliant Robin there there are not many Reliance over here.
Oh, and look over here either where we've got the uh Volkswagen Carman Gear, the Razer Edge as they're known. Type 34, I think. So, it's developed from the type 3 platform next to a Lancia beta or beta. Uh, Suzuki Kazashi.
In fact, there's several Suzuki Kazashis because yeah, why not?
Cars have come in and they've moved some of them around just to make my life even more difficult. So, I've no idea what I've covered anymore. What horrors?
I mean, unsurprisingly, there's a very strong Dutch Volvo lineup. So, 360 confusingly doesn't mean saloon. It means it's got the 2 liter Volvo engine.
Uh whereas the earlier ones um have uh 1.4 Renault engines um or 1.7s I think were available. So 360 means it's got the uh yeah the uh bigger engine. Uh so that's lovely to see. And now I need to tell you all about these.
So, these incredible cars, I don't know very much about them, but I do know they're called the Max and they're Dutch, which makes googling them for information extremely difficult for some reason. But, uh, they made 24 of them, and they've got six here today. And there's a very important reason they've got six here, and that's my friend Art has written a book all about the Max.
Sadly, it's Dutch only. I guess it's unlikely they're ever going to do an English version. uh it just wouldn't be worth it. Uh but he is a noted is Chapu owns a fantastic caravan and he's organized this display of Maxis. They're based on Citroen AXS but with a number of improvements and meant to be a very good sports car. Hopefully one day I will get a chance to drive one and find out for myself.
But this is a poster you can buy at the show of all the survivors. So those six over there are represented here. And like I say, there is a book all about the Max written by my friend Art. And uh yeah, I think it's been there's some various Citroen Vy books here as well.
Some of which I've already got. So here is the Max book. So uh get out the Google Translate. Oh, hello. I've got quite a few of these. I haven't got that one.
So uh yeah, good stuff.
I met the owner of this Sinclair C5.
Lovely chaff. and it was telling me it's modified. So, it's now got a front hub motor. So, it's frontwheel drive. Uh, and it's got disc brakes and upgraded battery and everything. And he uses it for commuting, which is obviously much easier here in the Netherlands because you've got so many cycle ways. So, yeah, all these years later, the Sinclair C5 still doing what it should always have done.
Oh, hello Toyota PO. I've just noticed the hub nut sticker. Uh, but we got a Carver here. Carver. Um, it's the tilting car. It was originally powered by um a K car engine, but uh was reinvented with electric power and it still does all the tilty stuff. So, it's going to chase down the road. See?
So, it still tilts as it goes um around the corners. So, yeah, invented here in or reinvented here in the Netherlands as electric. I think we've seen this Hyundai SQ before at Japan Classic Sunday, >> but it's got some Hyundai friends.
>> Hello. They appear to be coming in waves together.
And uh Hyundai pony, Hyundai, I should say. Hyundai is what you meant to say.
And S coup Coupe, a later facelift version.
and uh the H100 I think van which I don't think we got in the UK. I could be wrong. Oh, H200. I do apologize. Oh, little pink Twingo is heading out.
Uh being chased by a Nissan Cube from Germany. Hello. How you doing? Good.
>> I like the color match shirt.
>> Yeah, little Du Cure coming. I'm just standing right in the middle of everything. Everything is getting in the way. But uh Hello. Nice t-shirt.
Look at that fat bat 1000 based on the 850 coupe uh meshes.
Whatever not that looks a bit cozy for two.
Listen to that. Ding ding ding ding ding ding.
Oh, I hadn't realized the Renault 19 is a convertible. One of the best looking of the convertibles, I think, with that humped cover over the back so you can't see the roof at all. Lovely bit of work uh by Carman. There you go. I didn't know that. So Carman engineered the convertible and presumably built them as well. Wow. Oh yes, there is the Mark 1 BX. I was chatting to the owner of this a bit earlier. It says very very low mileage. I can't tell you how low, but very low. He's got his cassettes in here. Beautiful tweed upholstery Mark1 VX. Very rare.
Now, I've come back to have a look at the Citroen C5 estate over here, Memories of Cesaly. Uh, it's a V6 exclusive, but it's a manual. Uh, the owner was just telling me in his lovely Triangle of Doom t-shirt, but he bought a manual uh so he wouldn't have the reliability issues of the automatic. And then the gearbox broke and he had to buy one from Spain. So, uh, because French because French.
Something else they have at this show is you can drive cars. So, we've got a mixture here of some privately owned cars that belongs to art, the Tartar Indica, and some cars owned by the Lman Museum here in the Netherlands. And uh yeah, you can drive some of them. And we're going to We won't get through all of them because there's quite a crowd building now, but uh it's going to be fun.
>> What even is that?
An LQ.
This is extraordinary. So, yeah, come to the show. You can drive an exceedingly rare prototype.
Madness.
>> Oh, look at that.
>> So, you you can tell it has been well used. It is certainly not a show pony this one.
>> Wake it up. Plenty of range left.
>> Yeah.
>> And then presumably that's into drive.
>> Now, it's still in park, so you need to put it to the right and then backwards.
>> Oh, there we go. Now we're in drive. The problem is people can't hear you coming.
>> No.
>> There we go.
>> So, it's a concept car.
>> Yes.
>> But, uh, one that appears to be fully functional.
>> Yes. It was uh it's also level four autonomic drive.
>> Oh, wow. Okay.
>> There is uh it was used during the UI AI project.
>> Yeah.
>> There is AI in it. is monitoring your state of health actually.
>> And here I am recording on my phone. It won't be liking this.
>> No. So, uh, if you're tired, it's going to talk to you. It's going to put your seat in a more upright position so you can >> and you can sleep.
>> Yeah. Wow. This is um quite the experience. You just never know what's going to happen at this show.
>> It's uh incredible. And there's another prototype vehicle by the look of it as well.
>> The APM. It's the Olympic Games in Paris.
>> Actually, this car was also used during Olympic Games in Japan >> and it was used by the Olympic uh Olympians.
>> Mhm.
>> The Greece specialty. This car was driven.
>> Oh, it said power when I did that.
>> Yeah.
>> And now it's in regen cuz we're slowing down again. 499 km on it. If we drive enough laps, will we get it to 500 km?
you must.
>> Wow, what an amazing experience. We're now aboard one of the buggies that was used for the Olympics in France to transport presumably staff and uh perhaps even the um athletes around.
Oh, I tell you what, this show just blows you away.
Been driven by a lovely Dutch couple here. Said he's taking me to Amsterdam.
It'll be absolutely fine. So, as you can see, Lman still very much involved in the world of Toyotas. And uh we're going to do another interesting drive very, very soon.
There's the Century cruising around, wafting, and the Tartar Indigo. I'm going to have to have a go in that just to see how it compares to a city rover.
So yeah, that was the little Toyota electric bug thing. Wow. Um, yeah, the Rockies are doing stuff. I need to find out what the Rockies are doing. Uh, I think they're having a play. Um, oh, looks like someone's popped open the the electric charge port in there yet. Oh, that's not ever so well attached. It's fine.
But there you go.
I did have a driver of the electric buggy, but managed to turn my microphone off, which is a shame because I had a load of lovely Dutch people in the back.
They were having a lovely old time and uh I entirely failed to record the moment. Well done, me. I did of course do a wiper test because why wouldn't you? But uh a slightly disappointing uh performance, just the one blade.
And then still with no microphone, I recorded the weird panagramraph wiper action on the passenger side of the Toyota Preia. Uh, this was a really nice car, but it got something like 163,000 km on it. It was not brand new, but still drove really, really well. What an amazing show drive. There we go. Right on the rock. Woohoo.
>> Nice.
Careful.
>> Brilliant.
So, here goes. Arts Tata Indica diesel.
The only one you'll see in the Netherlands and it's here and you can drive it. Do you think we should have a go at driving it?
I think we should. I mean, it's tempted to have a go in the cappuccino, but everyone keeps getting told off for driving that in a naughty way. And I might be the same. This is the City Rover in different form.
Let's go for a drive.
I remember that beep.
Every time you get in after a Dutch person, you have to move the seat forward. Actual fact.
There we go.
Is that neutral? Is that in gear? It's hard to tell.
W sporty.
I've been offered a chance to drive that fancy Lexus thing which has a yoke instead of a steering wheel. I'm more excited about this baby.
Oh yeah.
I mean, the build quality is as shambolic uh as I remember from my own City Rover.
But you know the worst thing about the City Rover? The wipers.
Look at that triangle of doom. Nothing I have owned before or since or even driven gets close to that level of triangle of doom. That's um a triangle of massive sheer ignorance and the dribble of disappointment. Oh, and if you're wondering what I'm on about, uh that it's the sort of wipery details I go into. But uh yeah, this belongs to my friend Art who does the Max book that I showed you earlier. And uh it's thought to be the only one here in the Netherlands being chased by a Toyota Century in a Tartar Indic. How many people can say that? And uh here comes the concept car again. This is just amazing, folks. It's absolutely extraordinary. But you can come here and just drive stuff. How How do we do this in the UK? I bet the insurance would be a nightmare. Uh yeah, I'm going to go around this corner and then um we're going to plant it because I remember my City Rover. It was actually a pretty decent car. It wasn't built very well in terms of the quality, but actually, yeah, it get gets down the road quite quickly. They say the engine in the City Rover was developed from the uh Tartar uh from a Peugeot diesel engine, but uh there we go. Right, I'm going to bring her in and uh let someone else have a go. You don't want to hog any of the cars. Is that neutral? is on. We just don't know.
Okay, this is weird. I've just noticed the Indica has a rightand drive wiper arm. Did Did they not build that many of them in left hand drive? How intriguing.
That's a left hand drive arm. This is not. Can't help your chasm of doom up here.
Love it. And look at this. We got a Borg ward Isabella coupe driving out. People are starting to go home now. It happens.
That is beautiful. Here comes a Mercedes pontoon. It sounds like it's a diesel.
Brilliant. Of course, Mercedes-Benz, one of the first companies to really go into diesels. And then look at this. Ford Town in purple. I don't think the camera is capturing just how magnificently purple that is. Uh Toyota BB slowing down for the dremples.
That sounded supercharged.
Interesting.
Right, I think we need to stop.
What is this? Mr. Vishi Diamante. This looks like the one I drove in Australia, but it's over here.
So, is that Japanese built or is that um Australian built? I don't know.
>> Wow. Even got a sludge green um MGB. Oh, here's my friend Art who wrote the book about the Max.
>> He's the most Dutch man I know.
>> Now, there is a Zastava here. Can you drive a Citroen BX on three wheels? Yes.
Hello. That's Pascal of the Snook Fabri proving that you really can drive a BX on free wheels.
Uh I'm I'm all out of ideas on this one, folks. But here's a marina I didn't see earlier. And uh is slightly broken F126.
Oh, no. There she goes. There she goes.
Um what?
>> No idea.
himself.
>> Hello. This is lovely.
>> Yes. Thank you.
>> So smooth.
>> Sherad GTI Detsu Opti. So there we go, folks. It's been um an utterly extraordinary day. Uh I'm utterly overwhelmed. Uh we've now got a Citroen BX Sport driving past us.
Um yeah, I'm done it. I've had to use two phones cuz there's just been so much to see. Uh Polo Harley Quinn, I think that was following us in earlier actually. Lovely.
Brilliant. And then uh the old uh Citroen Han, the high band as they call them here. Dutch ones. Front hinge doors. You'll note Mark 3 Fiesta.
Yeah. Wow. This is it. the the sounds of the show as everyone goes home. But extraordinary fact you can come here, you can drive cars, you can look at cars and chat to the owners. Everyone is so friendly.
Incredible. So, uh, here's to many more AM Valhalla in the future. Uh, I'm going to go and have a lie down in a darkened room now. Bye.
When did you sneak in?
>> I'm very well. I'm recording a little video. I always look your videos, so >> Oh, well, thank you very much.
>> Nice. You're here. Yeah.
>> Yeah. Yeah.
>> You're going to make some videos of some cars here?
>> I'm filming one right now. You may be in it.
>> I'm going to look. Have a nice safe journey. Bye.
>> Oh, it's a 2 L. It's a 2 L Rover SD1. Oh my gosh.
