This prototype elegantly bridges the gap between abstract control theory and the tactile reality of hardware iteration. It proves that the path to high-precision robotics is paved with the pragmatic use of zip ties and persistent calibration.

Final Prototyping for my Self-Balancing Robot
Added:Welcome to Riendell, Mr. >> Hi, T. Welcome in. Welcome in. Hope you're keeping well.
Have you a caffeinated beverage ready for today's stream?
No coffee yet. Taking care of the puppy first. That's fair. Bambi gets breakfast first before I get coffee. That's the rule.
No, but that's a first. And here I was thinking about changing it. Really? Oh, I love I love your name. It's It rolls off the tongue.
Well, I think I put in an a vowel actually to be fair.
So, if I was pedantic, I would say bulb, right? But I say bulbadim. I put in an A basically in there where there is no A, but it kind of I don't know. It It sounds nice.
I got a little haircut today. I got bangs.
Got to cover up that big five head.
Everyone has their weird thing that they're like self-conscious about. My thing is my forehead. I I I don't know why, but I don't like my forehead.
So, I'm glad I can cover it up a bit.
Well, that's my username staying as it is then.
Pressured you into keeping your username. Toxic streamer. I'm at work for another 3 hours. Ah, Jesus. What time is it now? That's not too bad.
I feel like after lunch the stretch of work is like like move time moves so much slower.
Like when you go into work from morning to lunch, you're very productive. You everything have lunch and then suddenly everything falls apart.
Or you could add an a inspired by tofu.
There we go. There we go. How are you keeping tigs that you got on the Steam sales?
Hi is Tukova. Welcome in. Yes, my big brain my brain is so big. I'm embarrassed about my forehead. So that's why I have a fringe now.
Good morning, Cliff. Welcome in. Me, good to see you.
I've been called Bulby in another Oh, that's nice. I like it when Twitch streamers have like nicknames for your username. There's a lot of um like obviously our members of community have nicknames as well.
Um but like maybe some people are insulted by it and I hope I'm not. If if people want to correct their name, they're more than welcome to.
But yeah, sometimes I see a username, I see it one way and I stick to it.
Sorry.
Have something stuck in my tooth. Still stuck there. Hi, Harry. Harry, I've been live for eight minutes. You're late a whole damn eight minutes.
You're here usually during this just starting screen. What time do you call this? What time do you call this? Harry, you should be ashamed of yourself. Hi, Zilber. Welcome in.
Imagine. Imagine working. How dare you work? How dare you have a job?
Absolutely despicable of you.
Welcome in. Welcome in, Harry. Hope you're keeping well.
Just having too much work. Haven't bought anything on sale yet. Probably will not either. Oh yeah, I have too much of a backlog and I've added so much to my backlog. I spent €200 yesterday on Steam sales. Almost 200.
I'm going to hell.
Do I need this? No.
Will I play all of these? No. And yes.
So, I bought some games in preparation in preparation for Spooktober.
I bought Sorry, I'm burping. Until Dawn and I bought Silent Hill 2.
There you go, chat. You have your games to share the bees. Share the be Jesus.
Scare the be Jesus out of me. There we go. We also have for my personal self, I bought Wondertop and Supermarket Simulator. Supermarket Simulator is something I've played before. I really like that brain kind of shut off game.
What I did buy interestingly is Terraria.
Yes, I also bought Tomb Raider four, five, and six despite the fact that I haven't played one, two, or three. I bought V Rising, Planet Zoo, Tropico 6, and yeah, and that's it. That's what I bought. Oh, Heart of the Machine and Resident Evil Recquum as well.
Oh, I heard about Bonnie Tyler. Yes.
Yes. Lint, welcome in. Corby, welcome in.
Good day. Good day to you.
Looking through the games are on my toplay. I have too many games to play.
too godamn many games.
I'll never get through these games.
I need to be like a full-time streamer with 36 hours in a day to get through all these amazing games. And like I do tend to enjoy I'm I'm extreme. I feel like I tend to love indie small games.
Maybe not. I'm a citybuer lover.
And then I love the big AAA RPG games as well that are really good. In fact, slow has made me want to play Far Cry. I really want to play Far Cry. If I were to play one Far Cry game chat, which one would it be?
Can she?
No, I haven't heard about that one.
Sudo, welcome in. Welcome in. Hi, Chloe.
I know you were saying about Boulders Gate 3. The reason I'm not tempted to play Boulders's Gate 3 is that it's such a time sync, she says after playing Mass Effect. And yeah, my husband and I, we've tried playing Boulders Gate, we've tried playing um Divinity Sin 2, but we're just still inconsistent with it. For be for me and him, uh gaming is not a chore, but it is something that you need to be in a good mental state. It's not.
Do you know the way some people will play video games to turn off their brain before bed? We can't do that. We get super involved video games. So, we can't it can't be that thing that we do for 1 hour before bed cuz our brains will be too riled up.
Far Cry 4 to That's interesting. So, I've heard between Far Cry 3, four, and five.
Hi, Crystal. Imagine if some rando doesn't get the joke and attempts to get a free hug. I literally was worried about this. So, I got this t-shirt and I thought it was amazing and I was like, I'm going to go to the airport to Italy for my the espost of them do not know what alien is.
There are going to be people who are not going to get the reference and think that they want a free hug. So, you know what? For health and safety, I did not wear this t-shirt in the airport on the way to It was a fair point.
You look uh you should look into rogike games. I hate rogike games, Elo. I despise them. But I say that, but uh FTL is really fun. I love FTL, but that's that's not a proper row game, you know.
And the other one I love is uh Silence of the Lambs. No, Cult of the Lamb.
Cult of the Lamb is the other one I absolutely love as well. Um, I think it's a great game, but they're like very unique games that I like, but generally I'm not a big Rogue fan.
I think Far Cry 3. Okay.
Uh, I'm sorry, Kova. I don't understand the context.
Son is of the Lamb. Yes. Yes. Wrong wrong genre. Torlac. No, I'm not even talking about video games now.
General consensus is that Far Cry 3 is the best one. Okay.
Cuz I Yeah, I don't know. I don't know much about those kind of games.
Hades is on my radar, Crystal. Yeah, Hades is on my radar.
Apparently, it's uh pretty good.
Yes.
But I generally am not a big fan. So, there's one that I watched Nathan play and it frustrated the Jesus out of me.
And I definitely would never play a game like that. Is Returnal. It's a very good game, but I'm not a big fan of that kind of game at all.
It looks nice and like the concept and the idea is cool, but it would piss me off to know. I'd get really crabby really quickly.
I loved Returnal, but I don't think I'd ever get back to it. That's fair. But there are some games like that that you'd never replay again, but they were like good experience. Um, one of them is like Sangua's Blade. Do you know those ones? Hellblade. Um, oango sacrifice even. That was a cool concept to play, but I don't think I'll ever replay it again.
So, I'm just looking at my to playlist steam. See if we can clean it up.
altars I finished.
Hey, 150 stream streak. Let's go.
That's amazing, Harry.
Returners bullet hell is not a calming among rogue. Oh, okay. Fair enough.
Do short people have kneecaps or knee I don't know why you're asking me. I have no idea why you're asking me.
Nephilim, I play Far Cry 1 and five and I didn't like five much. Took a break for him. The first one was pretty good for its time. Okay. Yeah, Nathan played four and he said four was pretty good.
Thought you might know as a scientist.
Ah, as a scientist. I see. I see. It had nothing. It had nothing. Yeah.
Me boot up YouTube here for um Bob. I think I have the code still.
um saved.
So, I think we might be pretty much finished, Bob, today putting it all together. I was going to do it off stream, to be honest. I was kind of getting there and I was like, "Oo, I kind of want to kind of want to do this part, but I decided that I was really lazy. I'm struggling with productiveness after lunch. Like, I'm quite productive in the first three hours of the day and then the heat, something. I don't know. There's just I'm so unproductive these days.
Far Cry 6 is good in concept of fighting in Revolution paramilitary, but I think it would have been done better. Okay.
All right. Sit up.
H.
Oh, Jesus. M and Joseph, I think I need a social media ban.
Anyone willing to run my social media where I send you all the links and you interact with peeps and upload all my videos for me, but I uninstall Tik Tok, Instagram threads. Anyone want to do that for me? I have to eat less carbs at lunch now that I'm over 40 or else I get sleepy. Is that what it is? I had no I had a little bit of carbs for lunch today, but very minor. I had a budget hot pot, but they didn't have my favorite hot pot sauce, so I bought one that was Oh, my mouth is going to hurt again.
Super spicy. It was spicy hot pot soup base.
My lips were burning.
So hot, but so good. God, I love lamb in in hot pot. One of the meats I think I can't give up. Hot pot spec.
Well, hot pot is something that you do with like uh many people, but I just make I do a budget version at home by myself.
Yeah, supposedly to get caffeine to work again, Corby, you need to quit it and then scoot it up again.
Hi, Opinion Ash. Hi, Dash. book in.
So, look up what a hot pot is.
Absolutely. But I recommend going to a restaurant first, seeing what it's about cuz you get a proper experience and then seeing what you can do at home. I I do that all the time as well. Like, hey, drop you. Um, I do that all the time with cooking. Like, I'll go to a restaurant and I'll have the most delicious food ever and I'll try and make a budget version of it. For example, to this day, I've never made a seafood boil. Even though I have the base seasoning ready to go, but I'm like, "Oh, I've never had it before, so I don't know what it's meant to taste like." But we found a seafood boil place in Dublin. I can't wait. But it's a bit too hot for seafood boil, so I might try it when I go back later.
Good morning, Night City.
>> Hi, Ethan.
It is 2 o'clock for me now. almost who on a Thursday wild time be I saw the heatwave tomorrow so I was like I'm not going to stream tomorrow I have to stream Saturday Sundays so I was like let's stream today also I don't usually stream on a Thursday so I might as well try it out see what it's like and we just got a follow there maybe would we would have never had this follow had we not streamed on a Thursday never know.
Right. I'm happy to kind of kickstart Bob if you guys are.
Um I thought heat waves weren't supposed to happen in Ireland. So, I'm on the sunny southeast. So, unfortunately, we get all the heat waves. Um, no, like we generally have lovely weather here where I'm in Ireland. It's still pretty rainy generally, but we have the nice weather here. It it when I compare it cuz I feel like I got the extremes cuz I grew up uh on the west coast of Ireland. So that's where all the storms are and then I moved to the complete other side and it's like I get the extremes of both worlds.
Yes, I am done playing Elite Dangerous for now trash. The reason I say that is because um might do a server thing. I might if I play it again it's with friends. It's with collabs multiplayer.
Wish you luck Ted that I have too many games to play and and Elite Dangerous was a game that I played out of pure stubbornness. You know, it was most terrifying experience of my life and I conquered my fear.
Oh, how come you retracted it, Ethan? It was all good. All good.
Nothing wrong with it at all.
Hi caller. By the way, I didn't say hello.
I need to broaden my gaming experience.
I play a fair bit, but I've played about five games to death over and over again.
I see. Yeah. I mean, this is a perfect channel if you're if you're thinking about what to play. I would say um I've tried a lot of games. I would say I'm pretty veteran.
Well, I don't know. I guess I never saw myself as like a a proper gamer amongst gamers, but now that I think about it and the more I communicate with human beings, kind of am a pretty hardcore gamer the more I think more I speak to other humans who refer to themselves as games.
Neil fun games. No, I've never heard of them.
All right, my eyes hurt. Um, I have all Bring Bob over.
Oh, I hate puzzle games. I suck at puzzle games so bad. Probably is a reason why I never discovered those. Let me move my keyboard in this way and this way. Yeah, I'm going to I'm going to bend you over chat again if that's okay.
Nothing nothing too crazy, but so you guys can see a bit of what we're doing to Bob.
And this is how I'll dismantle my lab rats if they misbehave. You better behave, chat. Better behave.
I need to go because I am a gamer and I have to game.
Take care of yourself. Hopefully, we'll get some gaming today. Today, I think will be the day that I finish.
Um, what are we doing? Oh, surviving Mars.
Yeah, I think today will be the day we finish surviving Mars. We're almost finished terraforming. You just need uh Okay.
So, I guess we have to put it together.
Let's see what our next step is.
We have the Arduino. We have everything connected.
Did I connect everything? I did. Yes.
Yes.
So, now we need to transfer the circuit to everything. So, what we're going to do for this is we're going to use super glue and dual side duct tape maybe or whatever it's called. Um, let me see. Double sticky tape.
I'm back. Okay, I got some tape and stuff.
Is this double-sided tape? It looks funny. I think this is double-sided tape.
No, it's not. H.
If I were Nathan and I were hiding double-sided tape in this house, where would I hide? Where would we hide?
Can't seem to find it.
I'll have a word with Nathan another day. Where does he keep hiding my double-sided sticky tape?
Oh, cool. Drew, welcome in. Welcome in. We We have a self-balancing robot is what we're building. And uh we're going to put it together, but I don't have all the stuff.
Um but but I think we'll manage. Hi, Quizier.
Hi, Lotus. I keep my tape in a special bunker. My enemies will never find it.
Give me, give me, give me an enemy after mid.
My concern is how do the wheels work?
They have to be loose. So, just a small thing. I'll show you.
Pop this up a little bit more. Um, this axis needs to be allowed to spin. But then this is allowed to be drilled in.
So let me just I take off the wheel. I can. So there is two cables going through here and another one here.
Sorry, a hole. So we have one, two, three holes. We could design it in a way that you know but for the sake of prototyping for now for the sake of prototyping what we'll do is we will um we will use zip ties. I have zip ties.
So while we just have the prototype it'll be fine. Later we'll do better. Hi Google. Welcome in.
I just had the word lotus pop in my game right now as it was said on stream. The odds at heart. Hi. All hail the mighty duct tape. Absolutely. Duct tape is amazing.
I don't want to alarm anyone, but have you ever seen on planes? Now, it isn't proper duct tape. It's it's it's normal duct tape. something a little bit more fancier. But have you ever seen duct tape on the wings of the uh airplane and airplanes fly with it? So, you know what?
I'm just getting my toolbox out.
Even in the field, in those fields, they use duct tapes.
Got a couple of zip ties.
Wait, Drew, did you find the stream and it was a coincidence that you're electrical engineer? Isn't that silver tape on the plane wings? It looks more like duct tape rather than silver, but maybe maybe it it's that thing. But I always think it's duct tape and it's I find that funny.
In aviation circles, it's called bodgege tape. Oh, is that what it's called?
Star. There you go.
I'm going to stick with the notion that it's sticky tape or duct tape because it it Yeah, it's great. So, what I'm going to do is I'm going to use zip ties to stick the wheels together. I think this is the best solution.
Oh, actually off camera. We go.
Yeah, it's aluminium. I think it is metallic.
Okay.
Any of you going to anything cool this summer? Like any cons? Um, I know open sauce is happening soon. I would love to be invited to open source one day. With traveling to the United States, I feel like I need an invitation rather than just going willingly.
Uh just from a financial perspective, like um it's such a huge commitment to do something like that that I feel like I I would require a little bit of financial support. But it does look really really cool.
Any of our our American viewers might be still sleeping. Actually, it's only morning time on the east coast. East, west? Yeah, east coast.
I tot my geography.
Okay, seems pretty firm.
Might get scissors or clippers to clip its wings.
Hi, Spidey. So, welcome in.
So, we'll clip these guys here and here.
>> Back on the menu, boys.
No, no, no, no. This is how rumors start. Young at heart, we're not going to America. Well, maybe maybe actually I'm hoping I'm hoping to uh to be approved for the NASA launch. And if that happens, I have a chance of going to the United States of America uh at the end of August. Thank you for much for the 200 bits.
My summer plan concert in October.
Hi, Shattered Phoenix. Hi KJ. KG KJ. Oh, for [ __ ] sakes. Good morning from the Midwest US.
It is very early for you. Very honored by your presence here.
Being able to get up so early. So if I were a robot, this is how self Wait, wait, wait.
I'm also an early riser. Oh, you're also West Coast. Oh, we're calling out all the Americans. Jesus, that is amazing. I do have a lot of American viewers. I believe they're my majority of my viewers. Um, so yeah, pretty much all of you are early risers in that sense.
Hello, professor. Hello, Fiorina.
Welcome in. Welcome in. I'm very wor worried about this one soldiering job I've done here. This is very very bad connection. I hope I hope I hope she survives.
That still only counts as one.
Not the Irish. No. Surprisingly, Ireland is like very rare. I would say it's like the sixth or the seventh top viewered people here. And it's actually the same problem with my Instagram. It's not in my top five either, I guess. Like I don't promote my Irishness. Does that make sense? Some people will like have it uh like there's Irish flags and Irish themes around, but generally speaking, I don't do Irishesque things.
I have too many niches to be fair. If I did the Irish thing, I just I would have too much going on. I'm already doing STEM, robotics, physics, games. If I leaned into the Irish thing, we'll be here all day.
TripleM, welcome at 67. Jesus, hello from California.
To be more efficient, I just call out Earthlings. There we go. There we go.
So, if I remember my Twitch and my YouTube community, number one is America. Number two, I think it's Germans.
Am I the only Algerian here? You might be, Fury. Let me call out everyone chat.
Any Algerians?
Let me see my I think I have a little stat here that says who my engagement. Where would I see? Let me find you guys.
The channel I share with. Okay.
Uh, Discovery.
Oh, there we go. Number one, United States of America at 34%.
Number two is United Kingdom at 14%.
Number three is Germany at 7%. And number four is Canada at 5%. The rest of the stats are 3% and 2% with Australia, Netherlands, Ireland, Sweden, France, and Finland. So in terms of like proper ratios, United States, the UK, the Germans, and the Canadians are my prime audience.
There we go.
There is a Twitch plugin. Yeah, there is. There is. I used to have it, but I decided to remove it.
Exactly. You need to get on to RT.
Actually, that would be something that would really help uh me. I would love to go a bit more mainstream mainstream.
Uh because even though I'm a really large science content creator, I might be the biggest physics content creator.
Actually, not might be. I haven't found anyone bigger and I'll be one of the top three in terms of following, but I'm not mainstream in Ireland. Um, I'm just like a social media influencer as according to many people. I don't like the term social media influencer uh just because not necessarily of the negative connotation, but what it means.
You know, the idea of an influencer is they well influence, right? But I don't really do that. I just teach, you know.
It's it's not like I do uh how to do a PhD program videos or how to get into college or advice on placement or you know, I don't do influential content.
Does that make sense? Um instead what I do is uh you know derivations, how to solve problems. It's just providing free education is really what I do. And then a few shits and giggles in terms of memes. Got to have the memes.
I think I'm going to put this at the bottom.
Make a bottom heavy with super glue for the battery.
And they call >> Oh my Harry, thank you so much for the resub. really appreciate it. Supporting your local influencers.
Thank you.
Ah, I currently do applied physics maths research. That's amazing. Drew, is there a research topic you're you're working on at the moment?
To influence online, you need to convince people. And in some cases, you need to convince people flat earth is fake. Ah, stop. I I ran into I I got in myself involved into an argument of someone saying that academia is a conspiracy theory and all information is hidden and all corporations are just money sucking from universities. And I tried to argue it, got involved, ended up blocking them because like they were just not using. It was really funny.
They were saying how everything publish publicized or everything made uh everything in universities is funded by corporations. But in that same breath when I asked them for sources, they cited a paper that wasn't an academic paper but one that was privately funded.
So they had like reason there there was financial incentive for them to support the public. So I was like a this this is just an argument that went full circle.
I'm done. I'm done.
Uh but yeah, after that today as well, I just kind of reminded that I really should be off the not been in a good state of mind the last few days that what I did start and don't judge me chat, but um I did start playing League of Legends there yesterday. Uh and honestly, you might say that's a time sync and whatnot, but by quitting social media, I have a lot more time on theoretically.
No, I am meaning jungle.
My pigs were carus cane.
Uh, what else? Shico, something else.
Anyways, Tiny Toxic Tofu is back on the rift.
I'm very, very well behaved though. I promise. I uh I got two de well one really mean person and one kind of like staggering threaty person but in the end they got banned so you know lol community is good and talked myself out of it. Do you know what I think would make league good is uh I just need to find more friends to play with it. I think if you have friends, it's way better than playing with randos. And as long as you obviously filter your friends and they're not toxic pieces of shits, league is a lot of fun.
What's the main concept uh to use the self robot? So uh the gyroscope, the accelerometer, and the gyroscope. It's this guy right here. See him here? This tiny dude. This is the important part.
Ah, I see. I see. I see. Okay, that's fine. I'm going to unplug the black one here.
Remember that. That's where it goes.
Then I'm Oh, yeah. You're not seeing this. Sorry, chat. Oh, [ __ ] My hands are not free.
Sorry. Two seconds. Two seconds.
There we go.
Okay, I think we're almost finished our prototype.
At least we've wedged it correctly.
Arts.
Hi, Mud. Welcome in.
Yes. Life in general is a lot more fun when you when your friends are not toxic toxic pieces of shits. That is true.
That is true.
[ __ ] No. Another soldiering job [ __ ] up. My wheel came off again.
Son of a patat.
happening cuz I'm recycling, you know.
I do have another new wheel.
Like, I could actually fix this. I did buy new wheels. Check out my new wheels.
What if I'm the toxic one? Then you definitely should not install league.
Maybe this is what we'll do. Yeah, I think I will.
Everyone coping well with the temperatures. I sure the [ __ ] ain't. I want winter back. I swear on my mom.
I've had it up until here. Chester's wy [ __ ] If there's global warming, we'll have to invent some liquid cooled to full body suits from Doom univer. I'm tasking you with figuring out how that will work. Miss science professor resident smartest person in the room.
Thank you in advance. Hi, Bog. I see uh the heat wave is making you suffer a little bit more than usual these days, huh?
I hope uh I hope you're keeping okay. Is Germany very bad? I know that France is pretty bad.
Germany one of the major victims as well.
I'm a sweaty little nerd. Aren't we all?
Aren't we all?
So, if I were to play League of Legends, any of you would be willing to watch that and enjoy my suffrage publicly.
I feel like if I were to stream League of Legends, I will actually net lose followers.
Oh my god. Not the Teemo emotes. No. No.
For shits and giggles. Sure, why not?
Okay. So, we've had to uncip one of our wheels because it's completely broken.
So instead, what we're going to do is we're going to solder this guy.
Now, one of the things that we should do careful about is that um we should solder upwards so that if there's any bends happening, we're not bending at 100.
Oh, I think that's Eve. Oh, Eevee. Is it? I thought it was Teemo.
Uh, hi flaming hot potato paler. Oh my god, I [ __ ] up your name. Just ignore me.
Don't listen to me.
I'm just a tofu.
Grab our new wheels.
Oh, yes. And the wire. Grab new pliers.
And happy Thursday people. Happy Thursday everyone.
Fancy seeing us on a I feel like it's been at least a year since I streamed on a Thursday. I never stream on Thursdays.
The reason was when I used to stream full-time and I would do a whole bunch of experiments and analysis on my streaming days. Thursdays were notoriously bad for like viewership wise. People weren't around on Thursdays.
So, everyone who's here today, y'all are like uber special.
Super duper special. Hi, Lynette.
Welcome in.
I hope you're all honored by your own presence here, you special nerdy people.
especially sweaty nerds. We are special.
Hi 53.
You said I'm special. Special. You said I would never amount to anything. But look at me now.
Look at us now, chat.
Reminds me of, you know, looking back at the bullies you used to experience in school.
How you got on now in life versus where they are now.
There you go. I'm just going to turn up the brightness for myself. So, you might get a bit of a flashbang. Do not panic.
So, I can see a little bit better myself.
And we have the title. Hi, Roxy. It's very, very good. Uh, it was from uh Andy where I don't know if it was said in the movie. It was in the book. Did they say that in the movie as well about duct tape?
Honestly though, there was so many amazing things that I worked with in the lab that were, you know, amazing.
Obviously, duct tape is the classic. Uh paraffilm. Oh, glass. Um what else was there?
Epoxy. Epoxy.
Not sure.
E epoxy even. Uh that was really really good. Um and like this gooey stuff to put in between your O-rings.
Yeah, par film was amazing.
Absolutely.
And people say it's expensive, and I get it that it is, but for what it does, it's very, very cheap.
Yeah, film.
But yeah, I feel like if you use duct tape in the lab, it's immediately makes you look unscientific. And on reflection, I'm kind of like, you know what? There's a reason why people use it. Is there an emote battle in YouTube happening? I see the emotes spamming like crazy.
Sorry.
The bad habit of putting solder instead of Oh no, I'm becoming American. I've been saying solder two times now.
I have been influenced.
Terrible. Sorry, it's a bit flimsy. Bear with me here, chat.
Get this done.
Oh, I just can't get my guy in there.
I like flip his wings.
The gasp.
Try this again.
That's very nice.
Very good. Very good.
Nice. Good job, team.
My phone was listening into me for some reason.
Okay, sorry.
Let's turn down the light cuz I'm getting freaking blinded here.
Nice. Okay. So, now that we have that connection done, let's connect it back here again.
Connect it back to the rest of the body of the spaceship.
Use some flux. We did. We did. I had some flux. I put on some earlier.
My flux looks a bit weird. It's like wax.
Oh, is it APA on wax I was actually thinking of.
I think that was the word I was thinking of earlier.
APA on wax is what I used a lot. Great stuff. But if it gets into anything, if you touch it with your hands, you're [ __ ] Had to wear gloves and you had to keep switching gloves all the time.
So important.
It does look like beeswax. Yes, it does.
Yeah.
Oh, come on.
I'm doing a right. Righty tighty, lefty loosey. Right. I don't know the difference between my left and right. Or Nathan is stressed teaching me to drive.
Left. I said left. You didn't tell me which way.
giving you a glimpse into my driving instruction lessons.
What are we uh building? This is Bob. He is a self-balancing robot. So, we're actually just putting it together now.
Oh, I didn't code it yet.
I h This is going to be awkward.
I have to plug him in.
A cable. No cable.
The thing is like we need to code him on what a balance is at any given moment.
Feel like I had longer Arduino cables somewhere.
The other left. your other land.
Hi Maggie, welcome in.
Hi Kov. One brain cell, three chatters.
Good ratio.
Yes, that is uh that is basically my driving experience at the moment with Nathan in case you're curious.
Hello, Aman. Welcome in.
Okay, we have our connections built. So, we will duct tape this together. Or this isn't duct tape. What is it called again?
I don't have waggle. I have these connectors and these connectors work well.
Oh my god. What is with the IQ in the chat today? What the hell is wrong with you?
Oh my god.
11 41 29 14 24 12 Such low IQ today. Oh my days.
It must be heat related. I would hope so.
I would hope so cuz that's embarrassing.
You say this as I'm studying for my driving lessons. The coincidence is a I'm really bad at knowing left and right. But some people tell tell me that they can distinguish between left and right as easy as up and down. And I refuse to believe that. There is no way ye fckers can distinguish between left and right the same way as up and down.
No way. But apparently people argue with me about this all the time.
That's insane. Actually insane.
You're all liars. You're all self-confessed liars. Teresa Card would have been three days away from her debt.
You wrote in your book. Did you play any sports again? Yes, loads. I was a very sporty kid.
Hopefully getting back into some sports now.
You mean Twitch chat, not YouTube chat?
Both. Both. I keep an eye on both. No worries.
Three days away when you wrote in your book that you had sexually with her. Nowhere in your book did you say it was with her consent?
Was it with her consent?
closet. There was no Terresa come made up name more lies.
Okay, we have our prototype in place.
What I might do is I might tape this.
Uh Kov, we stick to English please.
I was wondering if there was a correlation between playing sports, i.e. left hand, right hand throwing, kicking.
Oh, right. So, that's the only way I obviously know is my doineering uh body parts.
But no, I I played a lot of sports profusely.
Thank you, Jay.
So before, because this is a prototype, we do want to 3D print a case for this guy in a little while. I don't want to stick him down too much just yet. We're just using a little bit of uh insulating tape. Stick him down for now.
Scissors are so evil. I'm using nail not nail clippers. What are they called? Uh, sorry. I didn't notice that you guys don't see a lot of the building I'm doing. Apologies.
Almost here. Almost here. Almost got it.
The prototype of Bob is almost done.
Okay, put Bob down for a second. We're putting Bob down. Not permanently. Do not worry. Hi, Anna. Welcome in. Oh, that's me. Sorry. So, here we go.
Here is Bob, or as we like to call him, Rebob. Refernish Bob. Remastered Bob.
Nice.
And then if we want it.
It's okay for now. This is a prototype.
Hopefully, I'm no I'm never going to forget about Jerry Han and Frank McCort. That seven metal clip is such densely bizarre exchange between two I never care about, but their chemistry was like fire.
We'll play a segment of it at your funeral bog one day. Well, the human cells can only the type of sugar that is orientated left. So, maybe we should ask the cells.
Hi Bob. Make it so.
I'll write your eulogy for you.
See that everything is powered.
Lights are all on.
Okay. Lights are on. Gyroscope, the Eligu and the motherboard are the DC motor are all powered. So everything is functioning.
This is a self-balancing robot named Bob. This remake is called Reebob. Okay.
So that still only counts as one. Our next step is now to put the code into our ele. Now how do I do that? So I'm going to put this down.
Hurt itself too much.
This going to bring the camera back up.
Going to slowly connect it to my PC. I'm gonna find my old code and hopefully everything works already.
Yes. So, this is more true. That's because it's a prototype tar because we had to rebuild everything from cuz I nothing was working before. Um I'm rebuilding the prototype the exact same way. Then we're going to Tinkercad and we're going to redesign a shell for him.
We are going to rebuild and design a custom shell for Bob just as for Bob.
We're gonna have a really nice little thing for Bob.
I still like the idea, the general structure of it. It's really cool. But we'll secure all the pieces of Bob in there.
Now the question is, how do I connect Bob?
Like I had a USB extender, but I think Bambi A Okay, I have one standard still.
Yeah, it hasn't been bit yet. Okay, I have one USB extender still alive that Bambi hasn't found yet. Don't tell her.
Don't tell her. She can't. No, I have a fringe now. I can't do that. Um, sorry.
No.
Ow.
Okay.
Going to connect this USB to the Arduino.
So, I'm not really using Arduino. I'm being a cheap fcker as we all like as we all know about me. And I'm using a knockoff version of it.
But it works pretty nicely if I do so myself.
That was me chat. In case you're wondering what that sound was, it was me. Hi, it's me. I'm the tofu. It's me.
Whoops. I totally wasn't looking at video games chat. That wasn't me. That wasn't me.
Omg, she is a gamer.
She's a gamer.
Open sketch.
If I were a self-balancing robot, what would I be called? Do you know? Do you think the f selfbalancing robot might be the right one, chat?
Do you think so? What do we think? We'll take some votes. That might be the one.
That might be the one.
Sounds way too on the nose. It's probably a deception. True. When I was hell divers when I was um labeling my PhD thesis, I had, you know, final version, final version two, final version three. Okay, this is the final version. Don't trust the other versions.
This is the final. Those were the titles of my PhD. And I'm pretty sure I forgot to edit the title and I sent my external and my internal supervisors the exact file labeled this is the final version.
All others are imposters trust no one.
That's what I send for my PhD thesis defense to my examiners.
I think they thought I was a bit mad.
Just a bit. All right, let's have a quick look at the code.
Yeah, those are custom settings. I might have to calibrate this again. We'll see.
Upload this.
We don't have to worry about the 3D printer going crazy or the bot going crazy because we're not powering the motor. when you're powering the microcontroller only, it'll be okay.
Now, the first thing we're going to test is if the wheels are in the right way, cuz otherwise this whole thing is just not going to work. So, we're going to upload the sketch.
Going to see if the wheels are spinning the right way. So, we'll go on camera.
Hopefully, we'll catch him. Hi, Daniel.
Hi, Blade.
Have to be careful. We need to be ready to catch him. You know, you raise me up.
Sorry.
Okay. So, what I want you chat to look out for is the wheels. Are the wheels spinning the right way?
Cuz sometimes it'll spin one way and sometimes it'll spin the other way. Now, it will move fast, so I need to be ready to catch it. There might be some accidents happening. Do not call the police. Everything is fine. I'm going to be a-ok. Okay.
I'm an expert. Oh [ __ ] Nathan's not home if there's a fire.
Okay.
Okay. Okay, Bob. Okay.
The wheels are the opposite way. So, I knew that because when I put it down, he was spinning in circles. His goal is to spin forwards and backwards. He should not be spinning in circles, which means that one of the wires is the wrong way.
So, pick a gamble because bear in mind that when we run the code, it's going to move forward if it's falling back. No, it's going to move forward if it's falling forward. is going to move back if it's falling back. So, we need to switch one of the connections, hope for the best that we got it 50/50, right? If not, it's just Benjamin Franklin [ __ ] all over again.
We're just going to switch one of the cables above here.
Please don't make Bob spin in place.
That was basically what happened unfortunately for Bob.
Name it. Go him.
So right way would be that both wheels spin forward suddenly really fast if it's falling forward and if it's falling back they would spin backwards. The idea is is like think of a tray in your hand and a glass of water in it and suddenly the glass of water starts to tilt forward. How would you push your tray to balance it to counterbalance it? That's exactly what Bob is going to do.
Bob is going to go the way he thinks he needs to go. So, what we're going to do, we're going to test this again cuz now we could have connected it wrong.
We could have accidentally made him go spin back when falling forward or spin forward when falling back. So, that looks like a good connection there.
Right here goes nothing.
Okay, he's a little he's a little leaning towards We might need to calibrate him then but close enough. It's not bad.
Uh so he's slightly off balance. So I'm keeping him pretty flat right now. And he's spinning when he shouldn't be.
So he thinks he's balanced here. This is crazy. You can you chat can even see that he's like completely unbalanced.
Okay, never mind. I take back. This is roughly right.
Okay. He's leaning towards this way a little bit. Just a little bit.
Oh, stop fussing Bob. Okay. So, what we might do is we might calibrate him a little bit. Uh, so there's an XYZ coordinate in Bob.
So, what we might do is some of the connections are getting loose with all the knockons. We might uh look into one of the axes and fix it up a little bit.
Just a little bit.
So, let me look at my axes. I'm just looking at my code. Don't worry, I'm not showing it to you. It's fine. You saw it earlier.
So, it's just the parameters I need to see. So, I have my X at 184, my Y is 73, my Z at 12, and my accelerator at 1,312.
Now, which one is X, Y, and Zed is a great question, chat.
It's like when they carry a puppy above water and they start swimming in the air.
That's right. Yeah.
It's always a little puppy as well, like a little chihuahua, you know, like I I know what you mean exactly. Okay, I need to pee and I'll grab some water as well just to stay hydrated in this heat.
When we come back, I think we will mess around with the Z or Y axis. We only need technically needs all three, but obviously it's only one axis that's [ __ ] up our, you know, balance. So, we might mess around with which axis it is.
Actually, there's a better way of doing it. We could run a sample code and it will and I'll just hold Bob up straight, right? And I'll ask Bob, Bob, can you tell me when you're positioned like this, what is your XY Z coordinate? And then we place that. That could be a way of doing it. I believe that's the way we used to do it anyway.
I think what's not helping the self-balancing aspect as well is that uh uh Bob is heavy on this side and my wheels might not be perfectly balanced.
I think I think we can't we shouldn't even bother with this until we build actual nonprototype anymore. The reason is is because once we build the actual build, we'll have to um you'll have to what's the word? I'm calibrated again anyway for that specific one. So yeah, that's what we might do. I'll be right back, chat. I'll run a break. When we come back, we might start exploring. What should Bob look like?
What's our general consensus of Bob's looks?
Yeah. So, I I noticed that my tires are very squished. I don't know if you can see this. My wheel is really bent right now because it's, you know, it's flimsy um styrofoam. So, the wheels are bent at the moment as well. Hi, Chris. Welcome in. Welcome in.
Maybe Bob is a curvy baddie. All right, be right back. Of squ the x knot cancels off because that's the initial position and the initial position is zero. What we're doing here is we're substituting all the y components. How long Gimley is in the air is only dependent on the y vector, all the up arrows and all the down arrows. And that's what we're substituting here in this equation. We determined that roughly the height difference was 1.37 m one gimly. But remember, it has to be a negative. And also remember that when substituting for gravity, you have to make it - 9.81 m/s squared because gravity is acting against us. We then get ourselves into a quadratic equation and we use the minus b formula. We know what the a component, b component, and c component is. I simplified the mathematics here and subbed in all the values. But we get two possible answers because there's a plus or a minus part of the equation. Two answers result in 1.124 and the other one is minus3.189.
And I am ignoring the negative sign because well time doesn't move negatively technically.
That's another story for another time why it can be negative. But in this case, we can only take a positive answer for time. And so we've determined that Gimy has been in the air for 1.124 seconds. Now that we know the time that Gimy has spent in the y ais, how long he was going up and how long he was going down, that's also the amount of time that he spent going in the x direction.
That kind of didn't change. If we know how long he was up in the air for, we know exactly that's how long he was going for when he was going in the x direction with no air resistance. And it didn't change in speed. And so using your simple speed equation, E is equal to distance divided by time. We know that his speed was 2.83 in the X direction. We know he was in the air for 1.2 seconds. Multiply those values together. And we estimated that he got tossed at 3.18 m. You can evaluate the video and determine that maybe we're slightly off on the meters. Feel like there could have been an extra meter there by eyeballing the image of the film. But overall, I thought the estimations were pretty accurate. I hope you found this video informative, educational, or at the very least a bit of fun. The most extended credits go to MedJ, a dear friend of mine who animated this whole series. Fantastic artist and a fantastic human being. And thank you so much, finally, to my Twitch chat who participated live in solving this problem. Take care of yourself, stay safe, and stay curious. Imagine the year is 1943, and you live in the Soviet Union. You and your family had to pack up your belongings and move across countries to Kazakhstan for your safety because of World War II. You abandon your home, your life, your work, your career, your friends into a very, very crammy train into a very crammy apartment that you share with many others because you know everything is just up in flames. The whole world is at risk at the moment. However, one evening you get a phone call. A very important man is on the other line and he says, "You are to return to Moscow urgently.
You have to carry out specialized work."
And the phone hangs up. The weight of the nation is on your shoulders, but you must answer that call. You must leave your family again and travel across the country back to Moscow so that you can work on the atomic bomb. This is a story of a scientist on the other side of back. I went to get a bottle of water that was from the fridge.
and it was full. But I checked up on Bambi and I felt bad. You know, it is hot for her, too. So, I changed her water. Now, there was nothing wrong with her water. I decided to change and give her cold water, which she doesn't drink anyway. And uh now this is all the water I've left. The sacrifices I make for my bundle.
Yep.
That would be a terrible idea, Magi. The poor The poor Guinness. What a waste of Guinness.
Hi Art. I'm making a self- balancing robot by the name of Bob. So now that that's all done, I think like again I said it's really hard to know for sure the self-balancing aspect of this cuz liberated we're going to do is we're going to So, the thing about Bob, what's nice is that I can connect him down. Won't go crazy on the idea is definitely still leaning right. Okay.
Okay. Okay. Okay. Okay. Okay, Bob. It's fine. It's fine. So, what if I like make it go slightly this way? That fix it or make it worse? That makes it worse.
Okay. Okay. Okay. What if I make the gyroscope lean a little bit this way?
He's still leaning to the right more.
Close enough. Okay. So, what we're going to do now is there's no point in Like I said, there's no point in Oh, Bob, calm down, Bob.
What we're going to do is we might actually build the uh casing for him now because like we said earlier uh or like I mentioned earlier is that if I calibrated the gyroscope on this leaning tower of Pisa, it's going to be stuck to this. No. Um, so we might as well build a prototype and then customize uh the dude up here. What a fun little guy. Yes, a self balancing robot. Very, very good. Bob is very good. So, what we're going to do is I mean, what time is it? It's 3:00.
What do you think, chat? Do we have time to tinker?
How about brainstorming? Let's at least brainstorm what Bob would look like what his shell will be like. How about that? Like, let's brainstorm some designs.
Bob here.
Bob also looks much better when he has a lot of more room to do a lot of things.
When you give him more space, he has more momentum to accelerate, more space to accelerate and decelerate, which means that he can balance himself a little bit better. So on top of the table with my hands blocking his way, he's a bit less performative.
Yeah, I can even see now wheels are so [ __ ] and out of shape already.
So, what we're going to do is I'm going to boot up this website called Whiteboard and just kind of kind of think about how he would look.
might uh spend morning or two sketching stuff.
Be prepared for flashbang.
There we go. Right.
I think the general idea of Bob is still extremely nice. Like I really like exposing the inards of Bob and that sounds very crude and scary but I mean it in the most positive way.
I totes don't mean anything by it. Okay.
So I think we should still keep the same idea, the same structure of Bob. a bottom shelf, a middle shelf, and a top shelf for the gyro. Okay, that general idea is really, really nice. I like that. The wheels here, the loose axis should be.
No, no.
So, I like that kind of general idea.
Now the the the the possibilities here is that when you take one of the side panels, okay, this is what you see on this side.
You see obviously a wheel at the bottom here. What I would like to do is in between the shelving have holes.
The reason is it's actually for cabling reasons. So, you'll notice that some of the cables um don't look great. Can we make him look like a turnipet from How's Moving Castle?
I was thinking of sticking something else on him. I was thinking about 3D printing designing eyes like this, you know, like very simple cartoony eyes and then like stick them up here, you know?
That's what I was planning on doing.
I don't think so because the bottom part is going to be the battery.
In fact, I don't think we even need the middle shelf.
Do we want Bob taller? Do by like if we make Bob taller, does that help our self balancing or no?
Make him taller.
If we put If he's lower and the gyroscope is lower, he won't be as crazy, right?
But he won't be sensitive enough either though.
So that's kind of the selling point or the counterpart.
Yeah. So I still think we put the battery here, the motor controller here, and the Arduino here.
The Arduino is really light.
Hi cobra.
Shorter people have better balance.
Oh, my music stopped.
I I put on slows mix from uh Cyberpunk Cyberpunk.
All the circuit boards at the bottom.
Maybe we could.
I mean, we definitely have space. I definitely have space to put the Arduino here if I wanted to. Do I want to, though?
It's so light. I don't think um it's such a concern, but maybe I'm wrong.
We could put the Arduino here. Okay, then you can build higher without risking too much stability.
I'd need to get longer wires then. Oh, yeah. Because the groy has to connect to the Arduino in the end.
We could build him little hands. We could stick on little hands like this.
Like that.
Exactly like that, Jay. Yeah, we could do that to him. That might be fun.
Yeah, we can have a little dent with in here. And so we can stick eyes or eyes with a hat or face or a smiley face. You can do loads of stuff then. Hi Fifific.
You have a very very uh broad uh This is my fiance. Oh, is it could install them inside an RT2D2 model and with a serving tray like R2 from Java's barge.
Yeah, I like that idea. I was also thinking of um actually no, if we screw it down, we'll screw it down. We'll definitely have to find like proper um plates in there.
Shouldn't the groy be close to the center of mass? I don't think so, Clim.
Because here's my argument against that or for it, whatever way you want to see it. The gro is going to be extremely sensitive to angle change. So, if you look at it from this perspective here, right? Let's say this is this is the side panel of it. And let's say it begins to top all over at a certain angle. So if the gro is here, so it's toppling over at the wheel.
Do that.
So suddenly it's bent in this direction.
Right? If you look at the angle here versus the angle here, it's going to be a lot higher angle over here than it is going to be at the bottom. So if you put the gro to the bottom, its sensitivity is going to be reduced. If you put it higher up, it's going to have a higher sensitivity, so it'll respond faster. So, it depends on your argument.
Do you want your system more sensitive or not?
We could program it simply otherwise.
But if we want to get a full scope of information, I think higher up would be better in our case.
Ah, you're very, very kind, Cobra. SOM, welcome in. Welcome in. And again, Google, welcome in. Um, ah, listen, I I I make content the way it is and we'll see time if I grow as a YouTuber, if I grow as a Twitch streamer. Glad that you guys are here. Anyway, the algorithm made you find me this way.
So, yeah, basically what I'm doing is I'm putting the sensor where it's most sensitive.
You can make arguments pro and against that for sure.
Could we put Hi, Jimmy. Could you put the guy even higher up by having a counterwe in orbit?
Why was I reading that question at first as if you were actually asking a proper question? How dare you Jimmy? How dare you?
Hi, John. Welcome in.
So, I think this is a perfect way to balance him.
Now, I guess we need to design the plates. I think we built him like Lego where we'll have little ridges here and they jam in the parts accordingly. The question however becomes um where the drill holes will be and stuff.
We will nail down a few parts or maybe having maybe a weight hanging down the bottom.
Hi Flessad. Welcome in. What's up?
I've examined your squiggles closely and I think your design checks out. It's It's not much It's not much different than uh than the usual squiggly. Oh, sorry. The usual design that we did.
Just a couple of gaps to make the wiring a little bit better. And yeah, so for example, there'll be a little part here and we will drill some holes here.
Although they're very, very big. That DC motor is massive.
I don't think I have long enough Oh, ridges. Uh, so what I was going to say is, um, I was going to add, um, little holes and I'll just drill down the Arduino.
Yeah, even my longest nail, my longest screw doesn't fit all the way out through.
How do I have longer screws?
Is it possible to use two inverted sensors instead of one so that each sensor gives a correct as in like getting an average between two readings or something?
Not sure what what else saying cobra sorry a hinged pendulum demo. Thinking a bit more about it. If you have the arms to swing, would that help a counter counteracting Bob falling over?
No. I think it will be the opposite because he'd be dragging the momentum in the opposite way we want to go. So if he's falling down, his hands go back.
His weight Yeah. So he's falling down, his arms go back.
The wheels want to accelerate.
The arms will swing forward.
Adding weight forward when we're trying to get it back. So, it would be a count it would be not a counterwe in that case. I think it would be a wait weight. What's that called? What's the opposite of a counterwe time to start a project to build longer screws? Actually, why don't we print longer screws then?
In that case, Chris, you might be on to something.
Oh, I see what you mean, Cobra. Oh, I get you now. A sensor on the front and the back.
Adding any sort of sensor to such a fast-paced program is going to increase our load exponentially. or maybe not exponentially but it will increase our load. So I wary about the response time between the two guys.
Now this is the part that I hate actually designing all of this. I'm like, make me build a circuit. Fine.
Figure out the programming. I know I lose my mind when I code, but that's okay. But designing 3D prints a tuned mass stamp for How about nah?
I was just looking through it.
I understand what you're saying. It's to reduce the shakiness pretty much, right?
That's the suggestion. T I don't think Hi, John. Welcome in.
There's also issues with syncing the two sensors. Yeah, synchronization of the two sensors might be alarming.
I agree.
What we might do is I'll test Bob one more time on the ground just with like more scope for him to wheel around. And I think we have like a prototype idea. I just need to sit down and take the measurements. I might do that off stream tomorrow, but on Saturday I want to do proper physics. On Saturday, I want to do logic gates for you guys because that'll be my next YouTube video anyway.
Um, oh, if if anyone is watching YouTube or likes my YouTube videos, I uploaded a new YouTube video yesterday on ones and zeros, what digital signals actually are. Um, so if you guys are interested, it helps me out a lot if you guys check out the video, like science, science way.
But yeah, there we go. But yeah, the next YouTube video I need to do on that series is logic gates. So it would I want to do logic gates, but I actually want to do more. I want to do solar panels as well. Um, oh, mic cutting off.
Sorry. Apologies. Thank you for letting me know. My mic was cutting off in that YouTube video, so I need to be careful.
I think I messed around with my settings a long time ago and I [ __ ] them up now.
See, do some quantum podcast.
Why do you not do podcasting? I do. I do. Oh, I I need to upload one more video on YouTube.
I have one more video sitting.
Testing testing. I wonder if I improved my mic cutting now or dis or made it worse. But let me know.
Well, if you find me a quantum physicist who wants to be on my podcast, you tell me.
What does the clock mean in JK flip-flops or an SR flip flops? Can you have an SR flip-flop? I know you can have an SR latch. I don't think you can have an S or a flip-flop, but let me know if I'm wrong about that. That being said, the clock is quite literally everything that's synced up to it.
Because when you have a flip-flop, uh you have a series of flip-flops, usually one after the other after the other. And so because of that, um you need to make sure that they're all usually synced up to the same clock.
That's why when a tick goes off or a duration of a time of a waveform goes off that you know that the duration will go on forward to the next one. For example, let's say your binary code is 1 one 1 z. Okay, so your first flip-flop uh goes one.
Okay, it's one again. How how do you know it's one again?
How do you know? So, what they do if it's timed to clock and it goes to the next tick and it's still one, you know that it is one again. Another clock tick and the next one is one again. Then the other guy switches to zero and that's on the other top click of the uh the the clock because this way you uh you don't have to like do switching between states to confirm that it's actually one. You can just keep the previous position for it. This is great for Bald again.
There's a word I'm looking for. Chat.
When you put them all together. When you put a flip-flop after a flip-flop after a flip-flop together. What's that system called?
There's a word.
Oh my god. My brain.
Not. No. Not a sequence.
Not a latch. Latch is a single chip.
What is wrong with my brain? This is literally a module that I teach. I know it's been a year, but Jesus. Um, no, not daisy chain.
Oh, this is bothering me.
I know like I'm thinking about decoders, but I think there's a general term for what I'm thinking of.
Sorry, I'm just annoyed by this. So, I'm just going to open my uh laptop with my lecture notes. Just check my own my own notes. What do I call them?
Is has my mic been cutting off at all since I fixed it? I hope I fixed it.
The archives, my folders, electronic devices, my lecture notes. Those not my lecture notes. My lecture notes. If I made lecture notes, what would I call them?
Update a lecture note. What I'd call them, chat, parano shift register. There we go.
Shift registers.
Yeah. So, we cover latches, shift registers, then JK flip-flops, then counters. There we go. Shift registers and counters is what I was thinking of.
I was thinking that where are you actually? So yeah, shift register. So how how we actually store memory or transmit binary memory and all of that good stuff.
Yes, your microphone is working perfect.
Thank you, Cobra.
Thank you everyone. There we go.
That's like ultimately my goal to get to shift registers to explain.
Aha, this is how it all works.
That'll be my final answer then. But I'm also really want to teach thermodynamics.
The problem with thermodynamics is that I haven't taught it in so long. I only know concepts. I actually have to teach it myself again, which I really do love.
I do love teaching myself, but only when I have time. Keep cow licking my fringe.
Stop doing that. There you go.
It'll be fun to use a car. Oh, yes. I love car maps. I whole I have a whole YouTube video on them as well. Um I also have like if you're if you're familiar with logic gates and car maps and stuff, I have a fun little problem, the Jurassic Park problem I call it.
Yes, Jurassic Park logic gate problem. I also have a separate YouTube video on, but here you go. If you're interested in caro maps and and um logic gates, I have a Jurassic Park problem for you.
It's really fun. Star. Yeah. Duct tape out gases in a vacuum and then gets deposited on optics.
Outg gases. What does that mean?
Zaprebel.
outgassing me.
Oh. So, sometimes I do a little research on um on some YouTube videos I want to do. So, one of the YouTube videos I want to do is um the my my top three batteries or like these are the three batteries to watch out for because I feel like this is one of the rare times where I can actually speak as an expert on this. But I wonder if if of if other people have done this video and I think people have well maybe not video, but I see articles. So, I was just going to read an article or two, see how it's how it's going. And literally the first article I see is about the top three batteries. I wonder if the batteries that I have in mind will come up because I have I have specific batteries in mind that I think are to watch out for.
These are the batteries to watch out for.
So, new generation lithium ion batteries. lithium ion batteries energy storage uh and releases provided by the movement of lithium ions from the positive to the negative electrode back and forth via the electrolyte. In this technology, the positive electrode as acts as the initial lithium source and the negative electrode as the host and then it goes the backwards way when you're discharging it or charging it whichever way it goes. Uh lithiated metal oxides or phosphates are the most common material used to present positive materials. graphite but also graphite silicon are used as the negative material. We also use graphite as well.
It's very very good very fantastic like amazing conduction. While actual materials and cell designs with actual materials and cell designs lithium ion technology is expected to reach energy this coming years that is true like lithium ion batteries were extremely revolutionary absolutely amazing.
I don't see a battery I don't see another technology on the horizon that is going to outperform lithium ion batteries.
I'm going to be pessimistic.
I would love to be wrong. Like just because I'm pessimistic doesn't mean, you know, I don't want for it to happen.
It's just I don't see in our lifetime chat it happening.
You must not have seen those supercharged hamsters in the lithium ion running wheels. You see, I have my own lab rats, Chris. They're they're they're very good. They're very uh environmentally friendly running on the wheels.
I'm also pessimistic about hydrogen. I genuinely don't think there's going to be a mass revolution of hydrogen based uh energy usage in cars and fuel uh replacement of fuels.
I do not see that happening at all. I'm a I'm awful. I feel like you know the way a lot of science communicators are so optimistic, so encouraging, so you know, yay about life and the universe and everything. I am such an [ __ ] that cuz I'm I don't see it happening.
Yeah, I know. Loads of people were working on hydrogen. Loads of like bus stuff like that.
Lithium sulfur I'm surprised is on the list. Um so lithium sulfur batteries there are no host structures. While dis discharging the lithium anode is consumed and sulfur consumed in a variety of chemical compounds.
Um, I'm surprised about this.
I'm sus about lithium sulfur. I've known about this battery for a while. Solid state batteries, definitely. It depends what solid state we're looking at because, you know, there's a lot of solid state type of batteries. Solid state batteries represent a paradigm shift in terms of technology. In modern lithium ion batteries, ions move from one electrode to another AC across a liquid electrolyte. All solid state batteries, the liquid electrolyte is replaced by a solid compound. But nevertheless allows lithium ions to migrate within it. This concept is far from new, but over the past 10 years, new families of solid electrolytes have been discovered with very high ionic conductivity similar to liquid electrolyte, allowing this particular technology barrier to be overcome.
So, yeah, this is definitely one of the more popular ones. I'm sad it's not specific enough. I feel like this is very, very fluffy article, which I guess most are. My goal, I hope, is that not only will I choose my favorite three batteries that I think are class and are amazing, I'll actually do some simple PowerPoint software animations to demonstrate the chemical reactions that occur because I feel like they don't do that. Uh, when I say they, I mean like YouTube video people who create um content like this, like top 10 renewable energy sources, and they're all too fluffy. Does that make sense?
they don't talk about the physics or the science of the apparatus that they are talking about usually. So, I hope my originality to this video would be uh um to not only explain why these three battery technologies are my favorite and I think we should look out for them, but number two to actually show the chemical reactions and actually show how it works at a fundamental level because I feel like that's kind of usually glossed over and not explained well.
Yeah, exactly Chris. Uh me too. most of the times is very surface level. Like it's it's yeah, in the end I always walk away disappointed in those videos because I'm like no one explained to me why this battery was actually good. They said it was like high lifetime and renewable and all of these buzzwords, but they didn't really show me what they did though. So yeah, I'm hoping to make that my original aspect video. So, I have like obviously well spoilers spoilers chat.
Can you take a wild guess what is one of my favorite batteries? One of my top three up there.
The metallic song.
Yes, venadium flow batteries would definitely be up there.
Lithium. Ah. Um, no. I So, the reason I say that is I don't foresee a great turnaround with lithium-ion batteries.
They're already extremely prominent everywhere and I don't see any improvement future um improvement on. So, lithiumion batteries would not be in my top three list of batteries to watch out for. So, there's two more. I know I know two that will definitely make my list. I need to sit down and choose the third one. Like, I have a few ideas, but I need to choose which one is my favorite. Potato batteries are a misnomer, jokes aside.
Um, because that's just zinc copper batteries.
Atomic batteries are really cool. I do not see them ever being implemented though.
I do not see them ever being a possibility. Like in Ireland is so anti- nuclear it's not even funny. So many countries are like that. No, I haven't se seen Dune part three. I've I haven't even actually watched Dune part two.
or dialethium batteries.
So, there's another battery. Well, I tell you one battery that I I am putting on the list that you might find interesting.
Are you ready?
You guys want to know or do you want to wait until the video comes out? I totally will get it done.
I'm totally not lazy.
I'll wait.
Okay. I won't tell you, chat. I won't tell you. Tell us. Tell us. No. No. No.
No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No spoilers.
You got to watch me YouTubes.
I want to know. Well, I won't say it.
Chris, you go to work. You go to work.
Sorry for keeping you distracted.
You should watch it like Lion Battery, Worm Battery, Ice Battery, Worm Battery.
I haven't heard of that one.
Will it be before you write your thesis?
No, I haven't read and written my thesis. I have to I had to defend my PhD.
You mean my paper?
[ __ ] Oh my god. I've been leaving it for over two. It's been over two years now. It's two and a half years. Need to write that paper this year. It has to be written.
Actually, do you know what? I need a stick up. Not stick up my ass. That's the wrong word. What is it called when you need like someone to chase you down for something? Something out your ass.
What's the figure of speech people use?
Kick. Oh, kick up your ass. Okay. Okay.
Uh, I need to kick up my ass basically to get this done, but I think if I aim for a conference, I might be bulli like I perform well under pressure.
So, let me see if there's a conference this year, 2026. I might have missed it. Although I think it's in September, October.
Oh, it's the 250th.
Oh, it's in Canada. Takes place in Calgary, Canada from October 25th to 29th.
Oh, yeah, cuz the cuz that was already held in Seattle. May a maybe. Hm.
Registration deadline September 28th.
That's so close. Okay, there we go. Do you want me to harass you be around? No, no, no. All good. All good. Okay, so September is the deadline for a paper if I want to submit and then I can go to Calgary, Canada. I don't know why I'm putting on a bit of American accent there. It's hard to put on a Canadian accent other than the you do you know the way um about uh the way they say those words is the only thing that I know but that's because Americans slag them so much for it but generally speaking outside of those words I can't catch a Canadian.
Oh the a. Yes, the a. But in terms of other words, I don't I can't really Yeah, I suppose that's what makes And there are a few Canad Exactly. Exactly.
Canada's massive, so I'm going to assume there's a lot more Canadian accents.
Canadians are hard to catch, eh?
A lot of people have accused me of having a Canadian.
I don't hear it. Alas, if you can do the French, then you have lockdown.
There are some funny English accent.
There's loads of funny accents around the world.
All right, I'm going to go pee.
I have water again.
The problem with drinking water is that I need to pee all the time. Like all the time. I drank this little bit of water and I need to pee already.
But if I have tea, slows me down a bit.
It's also quite hot.
First world problems. I know, right?
Yeah. What we'll do is I'll make a cup on the fan. Oh, iced. I haven't made iced tea. I should, though. You're absolutely right, FA said. I'm going to I'm going to make a cup of tea. I'm going to put on the fan. I'm going to go pet Bambi. Going to pee. Come back. We will finish terraforming Mars. To YouTube, I say goodbye cuz my sign segment is over. I will be back on Saturday with teaching logic gates more points on carrying capacity.
All right, I'll see you guys in a little while. Bye-bye.
Wrong. Oh, here we go. What do we mean by current density? Well, take the zinc plate.
