Caribbean islands preserve their historical memory through public monuments honoring enslaved people who gained freedom, such as the Emancipation Park in Jamaica featuring the Redemption Song statue, which symbolizes the transition from slavery to freedom. These memorials are prominently displayed in public spaces rather than museums, reflecting the deep cultural significance of this history to Caribbean communities. The region's cultural identity is further shaped by figures like Nanny of the Maroons, who negotiated treaties for freedom, and Marcus Garvey, who advocated for black unity and whose influence extended to Ghana's national flag. Traditional practices like Kumina dance, which originated from Africa and continues to be performed during significant life events, demonstrate how Caribbean communities maintain connections to their ancestral heritage while developing unique cultural expressions.

"Jamaica Mightve just SAVED the whole trip 🇯🇲 🔥 (Part 1)"Added:
All right, man. We back. We back. We back, man. We back, man. We back with another one, man. I show speed in Jamaica, man. On this 14 tall Caribbean, all that good stuff, man. And right now, he's on his much awaited trip into Jamaica right now. You know what I mean?
As opposed to his disastrous trip in DR. We ain't going to keep you waiting. I definitely want to see what's going on.
Jamaica, Jamaica. Let's get it, baby.
Let's get it. Let's get it.
We are here in the Bomba Clot, Jamaica.
Everybody spam up the W's, y'all. We are here in Jamaica, chat. This is my first time in Jamaica. Wana, everybody in the stream, bro. Hit that like AND SUB BUTTON. LET'S GO. TURN ME UP. JAMAICA, BRO. HEY, nice >> chat. Is that really his first time in Jamaica? Cuz I could have swore I saw like some Instagram clips of him before this of him being in Jamaica. So, I don't Is he really?
>> Nice to meet you.
>> Nice to meet you. Wan, >> welcome to Jamaica.
>> Thank you. Thank you.
>> I know you've been dying to get here.
Come here from the streamer. I'm drinking rum and ready.
And I also hear you doing a little bit of that here, right?
>> Really?
>> Yes.
>> Oh, that was more bus. That's Jamaican.
>> Oh, that's Jamaican.
>> Like he don't know nothing right there.
>> Yeah. I've already gotten better again.
Dominican Republic.
>> He had a better board than he inspired me to work on my board.
>> So, I got a different board now.
>> Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.
>> Well done. All right. So, >> wait, wait, wait, wait, wait. What is this?
>> All right. So, this is the Emancipation Park. And this is actually called the redemption song statue. You know Bob Marley? Bob Marley song? Redemption song. It's named after that. So, these are literally slaves after they were freed and emancipated. It's honoring the slaves who literally broke free from slavery and they're looking up to the sun, looking up to the light, looking for a brighter future. So this is >> see in Haiti we got one in the middle of our town called Negma. That literally means uh marooned man. Uh that's basically a slave who basically broke away and marooned inten to the mountains. And the pictures depicted of him with a sea shell and he's blowing it up in the air. Um, every island as far as I'm concerned always have that kind of statue or some kind of symbolism as uh in reference to slavery. That's big because you know slave slavery was definitely a big part of the the foundation of the Caribbean. You know what I mean? So people on the islands hold those things very very dear. We're not going to put those type of statues in a museum far away where you couldn't see them and only people that's only interested. No, you're naturally nine times out of 10 you're going to see something like this in the middle of somebody's town. So, no, for sure. I I think and if you got one in your island, too, let me know what it is, man. I'm definitely interested and curious to know uh how many towns and or cities in these islands have this type of >> a brighter future.
>> If you want to actually Exactly. You have to probably No, it's okay. You're not It's okay. You're not taking off anything. I'm just joking.
No, no, it's a joke. Right here is actually our own female heroine, Nanny of the Maroons.
>> Nanny of the Maroons.
>> So the maroons actually fought for freedom and were marooned up in the hills of Jamaica. Right. But here it is.
She negotiated with the British and she said, "Guess what? We want our freedom.
You have to give us land and you can't touch that land." And that treaty was actually signed into reality which still stands today. Homes are still here in the hills and nobody can govern their land but them.
>> Isn't that badass? That's the secret sauce of Jamaica.
>> Oh, come on now. Look, I have goosebumps in the sun. Look at that.
>> Damn. Wait, you do got goosebumps.
>> Wait, why you got goosebumps right now?
>> Because I'm emotional about Nanny. You would be great, too, if you if you knew your your ancestors fought that kind of fight. Come on, >> bro. That's my thing, bro. And that's my part right there is that it's like, all right, it's all right that you're not West Indian. Everybody's not West Indian or everybody's not wherever the hell you're from, right? But if you're saying you're going to take a trip and you're this you have this much status and power, I would assume that you do some kind of homework as to where you're going at least to have an understanding.
And going to the Caribbean, you got to know Caribbean people are just very very very proud people. And a large part of that pride that pride come from uh uh our ancestral times, you feel me? And things that happened in our history. So, um, my thing with him is that he he become he comes across very like nonchalant when it comes to these kind of historical things and the the the the the reference and how it means to Haitians that he didn't go there and that and he didn't go to Cuba, he didn't show no love to Bise and go there and shake those kids' hands and everything like that. So, definitely he, you know, it's definitely a big thing. It's bigger than just him just enjoying himself in the Caribbean, man. This thing is a big movement in the Caribbean. It's not no joke.
>> Okay. So, this is another one of our heroes. This is George William Gordon.
>> George William. George William Gordon.
>> Yep. We're going to keep going. Wait.
>> Yes. She's giving me a whole Jamaican history lesson.
>> Facts.
>> And Nancy Norin.
>> No. No. Nanny of the Maroons. Oh, Nanny.
>> Forget it. Talking about Nancy.
>> Oh, here you go.
>> Oh, she's doing a $5 bill.
>> So, look on the money here. That's Nanny of the Maroons and that's Sam Sharp. So literally on the backs of these people is why we that's why you know how they say you ever hear somebody say Jamaicans don't fight for nobody. We respect everybody but nobody don't bother than we you know like you pat your chest. Say nobody don't bother than me.
>> Nobody bother than me.
>> Wo wo >> nobody bother me.
>> No no nobody me.
>> Nobody better than me.
>> And then say Yendi say so.
>> Yendi says so.
>> I'm Yendi by the way. Nice to meet you.
I'm former Miss Universe.
>> Oh. Oh really?
PAUL BOGLE, another one of our heroes.
And this now, >> come on, Speed. This is Marcus Messiah Garvey. Now, hear me out. I know you just came from an African tour, right?
And you probably saw Marcus all over Africa, but Marcus is born right here in Jamaica. A Jamaican born right here in Saint An in Jamaica, but here what he is literally advocated for black people to understand their power. He was just like, listen, we are a united race. We are a mighty race. Together, we are more powerful. So, he's like, I'm not negotiating with nobody else. He can run.
>> Nobody better than me.
>> No, no, no. Badger.
>> Badger than me.
>> Yeah. Yeah. Right there. So, >> nobody better than me.
>> Marcus Garby. He's also, by the way, our first national hero that we've ever had.
>> That's Marcus Garby.
>> And also the reason why there's the black star in the flag of Ghana.
>> There you go.
>> He's the reason why there's a black star in the flag.
>> Really? Black line.
>> This is Sir William preached a lot about repartation and going back to Africa.
>> Say hi to your girl.
>> What's up? What's up, lady?
>> Jamaican dance move already.
>> Jamaica dance. You know the dance move already? The >> Oh my god.
>> Hey.
So, this is my friend Jesse Royal.
>> Welcome to Jamrock.
>> Let's go. What's good?
>> Welcome to Jamrock. Go talk to some of your ancestors.
>> Talk to your ancestor.
>> All right. So over here now what they showing you is a kumina session. Say kumina.
>> Kumina.
>> Yeah. So kumina is one of our traditional dances that came over from Africa to Jamaica. We still do to this day. We do it when people die. We do it when people married. We do it when people give birth.
>> They call on the ancestral to invite in.
>> See that's dope. You see, I like that.
A lot of countries before this, they never talked about the significance of a lot of these dances. So, it kind of led me to kind of guess at things, >> you know what I mean? And I guess sometimes when I was guessing, it kind of did offend some people, but that's part of that's that's that's the country's fault. And also ask those students asking questions.
I GOT IT. T boy good for jumping in the dance, but he don't play. He'll jump in the dance now.
You know what's crazy is as as long as I've been alive, I've always been around Jamaicans. In fact, I kind of had a long history of Baba and Bingum. know I've never heard of but that's definitely that's why I like to watch stuff like this because things like this tells you the extra THING THAT SHE'S FILM FROM your your friends or your associates you have to actually either physically go there or possibly hopefully you end up in a situation like this >> I got it [ __ ] [ __ ] [ __ ] I got it.
>> Ask him again what that dance is. He might not even know.
>> COME ON NOW. STOP PLAYING WITH ME.
>> I wonder if the bubbles will come out.
One day they going to come down from the hill and come on if they don't have a representative.
I would hope so. I definitely not haven't ever been to that. You know what I mean? The bubble hands just um from what I hear from my understanding it's a it's a particular tribe of themselves into the mountains.
>> Why you calling me and what you call me?
Uh accordance to way of life.
>> What did you say? Darren Watkins. Sound fascinating.
>> Who is that? Open up.
>> Who is Darren Watkins? That's not my name.
>> That's your name.
>> You're Darren Walkkins.
>> My name is Christopher Nolan.
>> Is that WHAT I THINK IT IS?
>> Here we go.
>> KFC. Here we go.
every hour.
>> DAD, HOW YOU DOING?
>> DAD, >> what's up, boy?
>> This is D.
>> Good to see you, man.
>> It's good to see you, Dad.
>> Dude, you made it to Jamaica.
>> You made it.
>> I got a shirt and everything.
>> This is D.
>> Damn.
>> What you doing at KFC?
>> They say you got some chicken.
>> YO, MY DAD. HEY, I GOT TO GO.
>> I MISS YOU, DAD.
>> YO, IF this is a actual situation, then this is dope. You feel what I'm saying?
Like, if this is actually real, like this is a dope, but damn, bro. This [ __ ] looks so staged, bro. And that be my problem. I want a genuine feel to this, man. So, I don't be wanting to feel like nothing going on with this is that produced, but damn, this would be a beautiful moment. But I have I find it hard to believe that his dad would be there like that and he would never know. He wouldn't know. I mean, it could happen though.
>> Go get some chicken, man.
>> It's your first time.
>> First time in Jamaica.
>> First time in Jamaica. First time out the country.
>> First time out THE COUNTRY.
>> TAKE THAT PASSPORT, DAD.
>> That [ __ ] crisp.
>> After almost 50 years, you finally got a passport.
>> I stepped up, man.
>> That's good, Dad.
>> Yeah. You eat some chicken?
>> Not yet. I'm going have to try. Wait.
Wait. You got some chicken?
>> Yeah, I got some.
>> Let's try some chicken. Let's try KFC is a big thing in the Caribbean. Let's see.
>> Every country swear they make the best KFC. I swear Caribbean is making KFC more rich than America. But I tell you, >> cuz I know they use real chicken. They don't use none of that GMO modified foods out here.
>> Chad Jamaican KFC.
>> Okay, LET'S HEAR IT.
>> JAMAICAN KFC.
>> LET'S HEAR IT.
>> HOLD ON.
>> Cuz every country he go to, he always like, "Yeah, yeah, yeah. Y'all got it.
>> Hold on.
>> This [ __ ] >> Hey, come here. Come here. Come here.

>> Why you going to call that lady over that big lady? My life.
>> Love and spice. [ __ ] be mad.
Disrespectful.
>> This got flavor.
>> Everything.
>> This got flavor.
>> You work hard for this KFC, don't you?
>> The number one.
>> Number one. Listen. Look at his face.

>> We need to come up with our own for real and get away from this KFC business. We making our own. We making everything rich.
>> Hey, Jamaican KFC. IT TASTES LIKE REAL MEAT.
>> YOU GOT A GIFT FOR ME?
>> SEE, that's a gift. That's what you call a gift. None of that fat puffy lips. I don't care where they got the picture from. If it was from a challenge from 1920, dude, you don't prepare a presentation for a visitor that's bringing millions of people to your country and one of the people that's presenting to him presents him with a photo of himself with fat lips. the in like the audacity and the just it's just sheer disrespect. And that's the difference between real love or something that's genuine versus something that's underhanded. You understand what I mean? And that's what you call giving somebody a gift.
Something that somebody can take and pass on. You don't give some gift somebody a picture of their self with with with with fat lips or some kind of racist connotation to it. Like that's very disrespectful. So shouts to Jamaica for that, man. Shouts to Jamaica for sure.
>> NUMBER ONE, >> I NEVER I never got a gift from KFC.
>> KFC.
>> Thank y'all.
>> That's what you call Jamaican KFC.
Hey, >> we got a >> man cave. You could get that that y'all got from Jamaica like that.
>> It's 1:49.
>> Oh, school about 12:25.

off of this.
>> Man, I wish I was there.
>> YOU SEE HOW A 4HOUR SCHOOL SESSION?
>> THIS IS something super special. Super heard about the king of all kings, lord of all. This is a place.
They better enjoy Jamaica, BRO.
>> I'M ENJOYING JAMA. I'M ENJOYING JAMAICA.
>> You should be here more often. People have love for you, bro.
>> A lot of love. I will be here more often. I tell you that. I saw you ring your box.
>> I did. Wait, where my dad? Y'all my dad right here. How you doing?
So this the school we just donated this um this their first musical program. All of the drums, everything.
>> This are the the lead the head of the school leader for the band. What's up, bro?
>> Big up by a lot of artists and individuals. The government who really give this school a lot of help. So Sean and myself and a lot of artists, we really make this food what it is. You know what I mean? But this is land given to us by highly you went to his house in Ethiopia.
>> Oh yeah.
>> Yeah. You went to the palace in Ethiopia. This is it.
>> Oh yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Today too man.

shot.
Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey.
W's in the chat. W's in the chat.
I think I'm getting a little bit changing.
See, that's what it's about, man. The kids, man.
It's about coming to the Caribbean kids.
They know you speak your language or not. You know what I'm saying?
Get a picture. Get a picture.
Who this is here? I want you to meet him. Guy who? No.
>> Mad everywhere. He couldn't wait for this man, bro. I tell you, young people, I tell you, Jamaicans don't need an excuse to party, boy. You bring out your speed. Listen, man.
>> They're about to show out.
Glory.
Energy.
Energy. That's how you pick up.
Where's your step? Where's your step?
>> THIS WAY. THIS WAY.
>> NO. They telling you not in there.
>> Look. Look. Look. Look. See? You see?
You see? See? That's my problem right there. That's my problem right there, dude. Your eyes show speed. We all know your ash show speed. The town and everybody loves your asho speed and they're coming and grace you because you're asho speed. But that doesn't give you the right to walk into people's places, bro. or walk up on them and ask them random questions while they're eating or like West Indian people are very like we're very like home training and etiquette like that is brought into us from birth like like you can't just walk into people's houses or anything without some kind of like you got to ask for permission you got to have some grace brother like everybody don't care that you ask your speed they might be looking at you cuz you're the spectacle or you're the town spectacle for the moment. But that doesn't mean that they want you to approach them though. Like come on. You got to have more sense. You can't be that impulsive to just be walking in the people like who you going to bring the cameras in there. You don't know that's a lady house. You don't know nothing. Like you can't do that.
>> The people pulling you back telling you everything.
>> Look. Look. They all >> I want to get my eyelashes done and my uh >> See, look.
Oh, they could have had all kind of stuff in there. You don't know?

>> All because you stuck your head out the door when I happen to be walking past.
>> That's crazy. That's That's why >> this your salon.
>> What is this? What you put in my head?
>> Curl cream.
>> Yeah. Define. See, look. See, look.

Hi.
>> Say hello.
>> Welcome to the Bob Marley Museum.
>> Yes.
>> This is my grandfather's home, actually.
That's >> Wait, wait, you Bob Marley's granddaughter?
>> Yes.
>> Oh, >> yeah.
>> That's going to be fast. Okay, cool.
>> This is great.
>> Royalty Lage.
>> Right here, you seen all of the different personalities of my grandfather.
>> Uhhuh. the family man chilling out at the studio. Football, ganja, music. But let me show you something very important about Batman.
>> Uh-huh.
>> Yeah, that's the vibe. That's the vibe.
So, he was a part of a band called Bob Marley and the Whalers.
>> You know what a wher is?
>> A wher?
>> Yeah. You know, like when you're crying from down here, like a like a deep cry, >> like a stomach ache.
>> No, not like a stomach ache. Like a pain.
>> But man was representing the pain of the people.
>> That's why he called this man the whalers.
>> Mhm.
>> Okay. So check this. Now this image here very important.
He had just gotten shot.
>> Mhm.
>> When he performed at this concert, this is the One Love Peace concert.
>> Mhm. After he got a bullet, he came on stage to perform to the people.
>> All right. This is my grandmother.
>> He performed with a bullet in him.
>> Mhm.
>> Yeah. And also Rita Marlin, my grandmother with a bullet in her head.
>> Because of this moment here, these are the two political parties in Jamaica.
>> Uhhuh.
>> The JP and the PNP.
>> This moment here, he brought together two very divisive people >> together.
I'm learn >> about a lot of different things.
>> Exactly.
>> Remember, >> man, that's crazy.
>> Performing with a bullet in them.
>> Good.
>> Mhm.
>> You have a lot of people who come here every day.
>> Nah, it's cops. Definitely going to experience.
Other way, guys. Out.
>> Out of the way, guys. Out the way.

>> Standing size of my grandfather. This is how tall he >> Oh, this how tall he was?
>> Yeah.
>> We probably about the same height. How tall was he?
Yeah, short guy but power.
>> Yeah. So on the front here, these are his background stickers. It's my grandma, Rita Marley, Judy Mo, and Marcia Griffith. They carry the harmonies. So every Bob Marley song in here, they're in the background carrying the harmonies. On this side, >> this guy is called Marcus Garvey. You know who Marcus Garvey is?
>> Yes. That what you're singing right now, those are his words. Marcus Garvey said, "One love."
>> Marcus Garvey said, "Emacate yourself from mental slavery." And Bon Marley made it into music.
>> Marley was a genius, bro.
>> This guy over here, >> the most easy.
>> This is the king of Ethiopia.
>> This is his imperial majesty, Emperor High. The first >> when he was crowned king in 1930.
colonial powers from all over the world came and bowed at his feet. It was the first time the African world was seeing white people bowing at a black man's feet.
>> Mhm.
>> Ethiopia was a sovereign nation.
>> And so that symbolism represented a lot to us because at that time we were enslaved Africans who were slaves.
>> Right.
>> Right. So his majesty his majesty's entire being represented freedom and that's what Bob Marley came to sing about that freedom. Oh, so it's deeper than music.
>> I get it.
>> Yeah, he was a freedom fighter.
>> You know, >> Bob Marley was a voice.
>> Yeah.
>> Voice for the people. So, we about to walk.
>> Oh, I thought it was a museum.

>> Yeah.
>> What is >> I don't think should come in. Somebody laugh.
>> Just get like right there like to the edge.
>> Yes. This is the these are images of the ivory. It's a representation of what they used to wear. So back in that time they basically were like fashionistas because they were the first black women wearing dreadlocks on stage >> carrying a >> Wait, so dreads was invented in Jamaica >> locks.
>> Dreads. It wasn't invented in Jamaica, but it was popularized through Rastafara and through Bob Marley and that kind of thing. The dreadlocks come from two different places. from Kenya with the Mama warriors who were fighting against the colonialists and also Indians. There are some people called sadus. They're holy Indians who live up in the mountains and >> India.
>> India.
>> India.
>> Indian of America.
>> India. India.
>> Like >> like the continent India where Ga comes from.
>> Oh >> yeah. So when slavery was abolished and they brought a whole bunch of indentured laborers to Jamaica, they brought ganja as well and ideas of vegetarianism. So that's why roast people are idols because at that time we were eating things like pig trotters and cows and stuff that you guys find in America too.
>> You know, it all came from what was left off of the slave master's plate.
>> Yeah.
>> Wait, so meat?

>> You don't eat meat?
>> No. Oh, >> it's okay if you eat meat though, you know.

Honestly, I I've seen reels of him in Jamaica prior, so I'm not exactly sure what's going on. But if you're going to massroduce something, this is this is how you put it together and this is how you execute. I don't know what that was in in Dior.
