Wind direction significantly impacts weather conditions: onshore winds (from the west) bring moisture and increase humidity, while offshore winds (from the northeast) bring dry, warm air. This relationship between wind direction and atmospheric moisture explains why weather patterns can change throughout the day, with afternoon conditions often becoming more humid as onshore winds pick up.

Chloe Carlson’s NEXT Weather forecastAdded:
Definitely need the iced coffee today cuz we are even warmer than yesterday.
Today going to is going to be the hottest day over the course of the next 7 days. I want to take a live look outside this morning cuz this is just a gorgeous view of our skyline this morning and take it in because our skies are clear this morning. That is going to start to change as you get to later this week. We're going to have that May gray back, which I do love. Don't get me wrong, but I love a clear morning where we can see those blue skies. I'm going to kick it off once again and get straight to those fires and just break down what is happening for us. So, take a look at this. This is our wind gust right now. I'm going to zoom in on some of those areas that we are looking at.
Sandy fire here with some current updates. Now, you'll notice that offshore flow. I'm going to give you another look at that, but just the conditions that we are seeing right now.
Sustained winds less than 12 10 mph. As far as relative humidity, still dry. And we still have that offshore flow, so we're getting that warm and dry air, but as I mentioned earlier, that is going to change as you get into this afternoon.
And then look at the Main fire in the Riverside County area. Winds also less than 10 mph at this hour. That relative humidity also very dry, but looking to hopefully get those numbers up as you get later to this afternoon. Why? Well, let me break it down. Here's a broader view of that future cast and just walking you through it one more time.
That offshore flow with us is just pausing at the 7:00 hour. So, we still have that offshore flow. Winds from the northeast as you get later into this morning, but very weak. So, less than 10 mph. You'll notice take a look at this shift. Winds are going to start to pick up as you get into the afternoons. We're seeing 20, 30 mph winds, but take a look at the winds, the direction, the onshore flow. So, winds from the west, which basically means there's more moisture in the air. So, we could see that relative humidity bump up as you get later into the afternoon. This is taking us into this evening. Still getting those winds from the northwest. And again, so more moisture in the air. Winds start to subside as you get later into the evening. Another walking you through the next 24 hours for Simi Valley.
Here's a look at that wind in future cast here. So, winds, like I said, very calm this morning and then they'll start to pick up as it gets to the afternoon from the southwest subsiding back to single-digit winds as it gets into the evening hours. So, I want to bring in this quickly just to show you. I'll bring in the temperatures in a second, but this map, just to show you what we are seeing as far as those alerts. We have an air quality alert with us this morning. This is going to carry into this evening. That is for the Inland Empire continuing into up into Ventura County because of that wildfire smoke.
So, this is not the day, as beautiful as it is, not the day to be outside doing those extracurricular activities, okay?
We have smoke in the air, so just keep that in mind. Let's save that for the weekend when we get that cool down, those cool conditions, and that May gray back. So, now I want to bring up those temperatures that we are seeing today.
Again, temperatures going to be hot, well above average. We are 89 for downtown Los Angeles, looking to be low 90s for places like the IE, 91 Riverside, 91 there in Fontana. As far as temperatures right now, that's what we're looking at. Low 60s for us here in Southern California. We're a little bit cooler as we look north, 28 there in Big Bear. 50s for our desert communities.
So, let me get you back to that forecast. So, like I said, we are going to be seeing a cool down as it gets into to later this week. Take a look at our next 3 days for La Mirada. High 80s today, dropping down to low 80s as it gets into Thursday. 70s as it gets into Friday. And as I mentioned, that May gray will be back with us. So, cooler temperatures on the way and just in time for the holiday.
Next 7 days for the LA/OC metro area.
So, we're high 80s today, low 80s come Tues- Thursday, excuse me. Then we're back to those 70s as it gets to Friday.
That's going to carry through the weekend. Even another cool down heading into Tuesday. Take a look at this. 60s for the high come next Tuesday. For those of you in the valleys, 92 today, so very toasty today. They're going to be in the 80s as it gets to Thursday.
Low 80s by the weekend. We're looking at 70s by early next week. And then for those of you in the IE, 91 today, high 80s by Thursday. We're looking at 70s by next Tuesday. So, major cool down on the way along with that May gray that will be back. We're going to take it now a look at traffic with Robert. Good morning. Hey.
