When entertainment franchises like Supergirl face criticism, the industry often blames 'toxic fandom' or 'man babies' rather than addressing legitimate concerns about the content itself. This pattern of dismissing valid criticism as toxicity creates a hostile environment where people are afraid to express negative opinions, even when those opinions are fair and constructive. The speaker argues that this approach fails because it ignores the actual problems with the content and prevents meaningful discussion about what audiences actually want.

Supergirl DAMAGE CONTROL Begins? They Blame THE CHUDS!Added:
Hey, we're going to talk about Supergirl because somebody has to. Honestly, we have not been hearing much about this movie at all. I don't hear people talking about it. It's not something that they've been discussing. I've heard more discussion over Mortal Kombat 2, which may actually, you know, do better or just slightly be underneath Supergirl. The way they're talking with the the pro projections for the box office, no one's talking about that. So, we got to do something about that, guys.
Variety had to do an article with in interviewing her. Now, I have no personal issue with her and honestly, she wasn't the one saying stuff as much as the person, this Katie, this Kate who did the article, but just effing go for it. How Supergirl star Millie Alcock learned to ignore the trolls and become a punk rock superhero.
I'm like, if that isn't a clickbait title, I don't know what to tell you.
So, we're going to talk about this because it is insane to me that we're still doing this. We're still having discuss about everybody who has any opinion that isn't glowing is automatically a troll. I mean, are there people out there that are just absolute just asinine trolls just for the sake of being a troll? Yes. Happens all the time. We get trolled constantly. There are. But I think the problem is is even valid criticism gets labeled as, you know, you're a man, baby, chud troll.
And of course, it's all men. It's always it's always going to be it's going to be dude. It's going to be d cuz she's a woman. And look, I do think women sometimes get a lot of hate. But that being said, you can't just label everyone automatically. And even if you're a woman or somebody who's not white, straight, and male and you don't like something, you get doubly mar doubly marginalized because then they call you internalized whatever to ignore you twice. So don't give me they don't listen to women because as a woman, when I said I didn't like Ray and Star Wars, I got [ __ ] from men trying to tell me that I was an internalized misogynist while they called me, you know, foul names in Spanish. So here we are. So, before I get into any further, please like and subscribe. If you do, I'll give you a woohoo. Woohoo. I'm going to tell you to probably brace yourself. I'm in a mood. Today's probably going to be ranty. I have a couple videos I'm going to be ranting about, and this is one of them. So, go get your popcorn and be prepared. I'm also supposed to ask you to please go and check out our Substack at more.clownfishtv.com or you can go over here and you can get more stuff that you don't get over, you know, on the on the YouTube channel. We cover things there that are a little spicier sometimes and you can you subscribe for less than the price of a super chat. I'm not as good at this intro as as Neon is, but I am doing my best. And by the way, I am Kiki Sparkles. Hello. So, we're going to talk about this article. Um, I'm going to skip a lot of the beginning because it was just talking about, you know, where she came from and how she was flying from one place to another and said she had jet lag and that's why she sounded weird in her interviews like she's making excuses. and we have Supergirl coming out next month and it's not looking great. So now all this stuff's coming out and of course we have to preemptively blame men and blame the toxic trolls and fans. You know that's how it is because any criticism even valid automatically means negativity. So in this article we're going to skip down here to this bottom by Kate here. They said in March while promoting Supergirl, Alco experienced this unpleasant phenomenon. Once again, she's talking about when she was on, you know, House of the Dragon, she got some issues there. After pointing out to Viet that she'd learned from her experience on House of the Dragon that simply existing as a woman in that space is something that people comment on. Now, she goes on to say later, I said people. You mean men. Cuz most women aren't going to comment about that. That's what you mean. You said people, but you meant men. I mean, it's clear that's what you're saying. reading between the lines. We have become very comfortable having this weird ownership of women's bodies. You would have thought a bomb had gone off so quickly. Did the rage machine set its sights on Alco? Weird ownership of women's bodies. Now, Alco later says, "Oh, I didn't say that. I I said people." Well, even even the author saying it was uh ownership of women's bodies would imply men because women you would you wouldn't say we have women have weird ownership of women's bodies.
You wouldn't say that. But even above this, I'm going to go back up here a little bit. They're talking about the backlash. Um, and then they're talking about what happened on House of Dragon about how all these young performers did a great thing and and that wasn't fair.
They were turning them against each other and things like that. But then Katie comes in. More than three and a half years later, online discourse has only gotten more uh whatever that word pernicious and harmful. Reality contestants on Love Island and the traitors are doxed and get death threats. And even the fandoms for the pit and heated rivalry have become nightmarish cesps. Well, I'm noticing a trend here. The ones you're mentioning definitely have a certain type of audience and they're the ones that are out there causing problems to start with. You keep want to blame it on one group of people, but the reality is the people that you keep blaming it on are just reacting to the the [ __ ] they get.
Okay. And a lot of these these shows that you're mentioning have those those audiences that go out there policing everybody. There is a horrible the I think the worst fandoms anywhere are the shippers. The shipper culture and that and I'm sorry if you're a shipper. I think everybody in some way ships things. But I'm talking about the toxic shipper culture. The ones that they're like do my ship or else you know those kind of things. It's gotten to a place where that's what's led to where we're at now. And it's and it's people fighting back against this this mentality. And then if you fight back, you're a terrible person. You are not allowed to disagree. There used to be a time where you were allowed to like it and allowed to not like it and that was fine. And they brought that up earlier somewhere in this article and it's like but that hasn't existed for a long long long time because you're not allowed to disagree whatever the mindset is that and frankly it leans on the left. I hate to bring up like right and left but that's usually how it is. Something you know you don't accept this enough you have to accept everything we say and do our shipping culture all that stuff. If you don't accept that narrative or if you stand against that narrative or you don't like something they like you immediately are just like the target of of vitriol and [ __ ] And then when people get mad about it and respond in kind, it's like the crybully [ __ ] And what made me mad like the Ghostbusters 2016, I think we could track it all back to like to like Ghostbusters 2016. And you know, when they announced that they're going to be doing it in 2014, most people in the comments cuz I was part of the comments said the same thing. Why do we need need another Ghostbusters? That was what they were upset about. They're like that. Or they said, why can't we just have an ensemble cast of men and women? Cuz you know, if you don't like the fact that it was all men last time, well, you know, okay. But why can't we just do it instead of doing the same mistake all over again? Why don't we just make it an ensemble cast, include everybody, call it a day, make it a sequel that these are the children of the Ghostbusters, if we even need another one. The biggest complaint was why do we need this movie?
It doesn't need to exist.
Then it became men hate women. They're mad because the chock toxic chuds are mad because it's a female cast. That was not what they were saying. And a lot of people making those comments were women, too. And they did that didn't matter.
The truth doesn't matter. It's just the narrative. And what happened was then they were like they became this, oh it's a toxic men, man babies. You still have the people involved in that movie coming out and saying [ __ ] all the time about the men and how they ruined the, you know, the all girls Ghostbusters. It wasn't just the men. It was a lot of women, too. And again, like I keep saying, if women wanted these movies like the the the femaleled Terminator stuff, why weren't they there? You keep saying, "Oh, it's because men are keeping Men didn't stop the women. They aren't blocking the doors and say you can't go to this movie. They aren't blocking the doors and saying that women didn't go either. The target audience that you were trying to skew to rejected you, but you don't address that. Well, maybe we did something wrong. No, no, it's all because of men. All right. It's all because of men. And that's Katie here is doing this, you know. And then she goes on, uh, superhero movies are the original battleground for backlash and organized attacks and review sites.
No, they're not. It was you could track this back to like the Star Wars and and and Ghostbusters 2016. Honestly, that's when it got really bad. I mean, you always have people who were just dicks because they were sick of being dicks.
There are people that are racist and just trashy misogynistic people and misandress people. They're out there and they just do things to troll because they get off on it. But the majority of people have a reason why they don't like something. And I think what turned people to these extremes is the fact that you were not allowed to have an opinion unless it agreed with the status quo. You have to, well, they worked really hard to make it, so you have to like it mentality. And that's the problem. Nobody has to like it. Just because you worked hard on it, you know, it is what it is. A constipated person works hard and taking a dump doesn't mean we should talk about how it's beautiful art. You know what I'm saying?
It's stupid. Still [ __ ] So, um, they're talking about, uh, you better put your flack jacket on before heading into the fray. But I keep act like it only has happened in the last three years. Maybe that's only happened the last three years to you, Kate, because that's when you started paying attention to this stuff because it was stuff you cared about. But as somebody who's been involved since the beginning, practically when all this stuff started to turn and go crazy. It's been going on since at least 2014. At least 2014. I would argue in comics even earlier than that because I was trying to be part of interviews where they were trying to argue women were being kept out of mainstream comics. I brought up examples that proved that was not the case. Maybe with the main two you see it more often but there was a lot of examples of women who were you know dominating graphic novels dominating you know book sales dominating all this stuff. I was the only woman and I was the only one who had credit that was you know actual professional credit that was interviewed that was not included in the article because it wasn't the proper narrative.
And that was before that was like 2010 20 2011 maybe one of those years. It was back then and I was kept out of the article because I had the wrong opinion even though I was the only one that had the cred to stand by it. Okay? Don't give me this [ __ ] I've been there.
I've been here for a while. You're full of crap. Okay? You are absolutely full of crap. It's not been three years. It's it's it's this culture. are the ones you're big, you know, Keated Rivalry, the Traitors, Love Island, all these things have a certain culture associated with the fans. And you're right, that's where it's coming from. Because a lot of people that you guys go after as incel manab trolls or whatever, they're just usually reacting to what they've already been given. Because it used to be you could say, "I don't like this." Well, she run the princess of power. People were like, "I don't like her. I don't like her outfit. Why does she look like Ben Ten in drag?" Well, she did. And immediately uh you were you were a bad person. You were a man baby. You were you were angry. You couldn't you couldn't fap to Shira. Says the same people who were making fan art of Shira and Catra doing dirty things and they were supposed to be underage. The Shira we grew up with wasn't. She turned 18 and that was like the point. So that that's a load of [ __ ] It's just basically like I don't want to hear your opinion. It's not even about valid criticism with the accolade.
Well, if they were valid criticisms, there were plenty of valid criticisms.
Even fans of the show said, "Where'd the budget go because I'm not seeing it."
Valid criticisms were immediately dismissed as toxic fan baby, manab misogynistic, racist, some other isophobic something to try to dismiss it because as soon as they assign an isophobe to it, then oh, you you can't you you have to step away from that or you're a bad person. Well, it's not working anymore. Kate, get the memo.
Okay. And it's not even really what she's saying. It's more this author is what the author's saying. But then we go back down to here and then here's what she said about like the com people, you know, owning me women's bodies. I didn't say men. I said people, she said. And they got so angry. You're proving my point. You're proving my point. No, they got angry because you said people, but you meant men. I'm a woman and I'm looking at this and you mean men. Simply existing as a woman in that space is something people comment on. Why would women comment on it? You know, I'm just saying it's like some women are probably going to comment on it, but you know, when you say people, you mean men. The way it's worded, ownership of women's bodies. Well, you're not talking about women because women would have ownership of women's bodies. You mean men. So, you know, you did say it. It was stupid. I'm sorry, but it was dumb. And you know, we all say dumb things. I mean, people say dumb things in interviews, but you didn't mean people. You meant men. Uh, and I don't think this this this interviewer, this person is doing you many favors in this article. Um, she even understands sort of where the base urges originate with this world as unstable and terrifying as it is now.
Governments don't have anyone's best interest in heart and people turn to online forums to find that guidance. It just creates unhealthy relationship with a person who eventually inevitably disappoint their fans. Well, not untrue completely. Uh, I think that's the problem. when you're a celebrity and you're on social media a lot, you're going to do something that's going to make people mad at some point. You're not going to agree with the right person. There's no way you can make everyone happy.
Um, so that's why I recommend not even getting involved in that kind of discussion. I guess women know that this is just how it's been. Unfortunately, I thought it was people, not women, but now it's pe now now it's it's women. Um, and it's from a lot of people whose profiles have no photo who are burner accounts or someone's name and then dad of four Christian, which is hilarious to me. But I mean, whose opinion do you really care about if you're pissing the right kind of people off? You're doing okay. So basically, okay, you know what?
You went from, okay, maybe you misspoked. Now you're just doubling down on it. I said people, I didn't mean men.
Well, clearly you did based on this comment here. So yeah, you know, I was giving you kind of a little bit of a pass. I got that last paragraph. I'm like, "No, no, you basically doubled down and stepped back into it." So, you kind of deserve what you get. Are there toxic [ __ ] out there? Yes. But I'm going to tell you right now, they're not all men. They're all white, straight, and male. And you know, here's the kicker. When you are somebody who's not white, straight, or male, um even if you don't agree with the the the approved narrative, you just get told you're internalized, whatever, and you are actually marginalized worse because then you don't matter. you're stepped over or you're insulted because you don't agree with them. But you just double triple down here, dumbass. I don't mean men, but just so you know, it's it's men.
Well, I every understood it was men.
That's why they were commenting because you clearly said men. You said people, but you meant men. And then you just prove that that's what you meant. You're proving my point. You're proving my point.
Exactly. You're proving my point. Okay.
So, this went out to uh Variety or on to X and people were commenting. Um, I see on here. Uh, good. So, was it that hard to support Brie Larson as Captain Marvel that way? Here's my thing about that one. Captain Marvel.
You had a you you did do it to yourself.
It's another prime example because Alita and Captain Marvel came out at the same time. And you go on about how you wanted strong female leads at the box office.
So, you get two two strong femaleled movies at the box office. And what did you guys do, especially in the media?
You guys pitted them against each other and tried to act like only the Chuds would go see Alita, but only the the good people would go see Captain Marvel.
So, you don't even practice what you [ __ ] preach. You should have been like, "This is a win. This is a win for women. This is a win for representation." But you didn't.
Instead, you tried to pit them against each other that if you didn't support Captain Marvel, you are a toxic chug man baby. And I'm sorry, her character was sucked. Um, our son actually went to see the Marvels and he said she was better in that movie than she was in Captain America. The character, you're too busy trying to be like, you know, I don't want to smile and I'm going to smack a [ __ ] meaning a man that you just came across as a [ __ ] and I'm sorry, you know, it is what it is. I like Brie Larson and other things, but that wasn't the best move. and the way she the comments she was making around the situation not helpful. But the media ultimately was the big catalyst that turn made it like a whole fight like cuz they're the ones that made it out. If you don't go see Captain Marvel and you go see Alita, you're a toxic man.
They're the ones who who perpetuated that narrative and started that whole [ __ ] So a lot of people didn't go to one or the other because they didn't want they because I'm on this side, I'm on that side. And it was stupid because if you really really meant what you said and you really really meant you wanted more women in movies, then you would have saw both. But you did it. So don't lie and said that you that's what you want because that's not what you want.
You want to see women doing your narrative in a movie. So you're full of [ __ ] Um you know I like I know they're going to hate me because I'm such a punk badass.
Uh Reed, when you know the movie is going to flop, you do your best to get in front of the haters. What's more punk than doing an obligatory PR for a giant corporation you're under contract with?
Punk my balls. Uh, ironically, a lot of the punk rockers of the day are now um either independent or they actually kind of lean right, not because they changed, but because everything else did. Um, yeah. A month ago, you told us this movie would be hated primarily because it was a woman as a lead. If if anyone caused the trolling, it was you and her telling us in advance, if we don't like the movie, it's because some gender related nonsense, not because it might be bad. Yes, Adam. Right on. Nailed it.
Exactly. You're correct, Adam, 100%. I saw the trailer for the movie yesterday.
went to see Michael Jackson biopic.
Supergirl looks it looks like it will suck. I'm more worried about crypto.
Um, you know, they go on about that.
They say, "What's this have to do with punk rock?" It has nothing to do with punk rock. It's just they're basically trying to be like her character is supposed to be considered like punk rock in the movie. So, they're trying to double down on this punk rock stuff.
It's really stupid. Here we go again.
It's the customer's fault that she's an idiot. The movie will fail just like everyone other one that attacks the customer. And and you go out to long range forecast for this. the tracking and stuff. Um, they said it's opening stronger than Mortal Kombat Mortal Kombat 2. That's not great because Mortal Kombat 2 didn't do great.
And there I think I said somewhere that the the recognition the the the the brand recognition was like 50 some% but the desire to go see it was 48. I'm like that's not good. The people know about it, they just don't care. Not good. And this does not help. This this kind of stuff does not help. Um they're saying here a box office predictions. They believe um the quorum says Supergirl is 53% awareness and 48% interest. That's not great. And it's coming out like in a in 26 the month, June 26th. And they're saying it's going to do puts the movie in a better spot than Mortal Kombat 2.
So wait, your your win is it's going to beat Mortal Kombat 2. It's [ __ ] Supergirl, right? It's supposed to be the big blockbuster of the summer or one of the big blockbusters of the summer. I think He-Man might even beat it. Okay.
Okay. And I I like and I I'm excited about He-Man, but I don't think a lot of people have the brand, you know, awareness that they talk about.
Supergirl probably have more brand awareness than He-Man. They don't care.
They're not going to see it. Plus, you don't know if Crypto dies. That's going to turn people off right there because James Gun has kind of little reputation for doing things to animals in movies and not in that way. So, it's just like that that's their that's their win. It's looking better than Mortal Kombat 2.
Mortal Kombat 2 had 48% awareness and 48% interest.
See, to me, having 53% awareness and 48% interest is worse.
That means people know, they just don't care. And Mortal Kombat opened to 38.5 million. Okay. And they had it earlier closer to 50. So, it might do a little better than that. That's not great. I think I saw someone say they thought maybe 400 million for the whole global run is probably the is probably like what they're looking at. And then they're they're like, "Oh, estimates are like between 35 million and 75 million."
I'm like, "That's an awful wide, you know, that basically says that means we don't know." And usually they they they project it ends up being lower for these kind of things. But saying it's on par with Mortal Kombat 2 is not the win.
And then going out to Variety and just being like, you know, letting this author, you know, well, you know, it's because of toxic men. I'm not saying men, but I'm actually saying men was probably not the smartest thing you could have [ __ ] done right now.
I don't know what to tell you. I mean, I get it. You get you get you do get bitter when people constantly dogpiling you. I understand that. I get that. But it's probably not the best look to double down on it. You know, you should be like, "Well, you know, I I said that I was meaning in general terms." And then you turn around and just double down, triple down. then you just totally disproved what you were saying. And then the author, the author is worse than anybody because they're basically like, we're seeing all this toxic trolling on these shows. And the ones she mentioned are the ones that are the people that usually trigger everything to ever get blamed for it. And it's like, well, it's refreshing, I guess, that you're blaming on the right side this time. I mean, meaning the left, but or whatever. The ones that are like, you have to love it or else my shipper culture, you know, identity politics. Um, there has to be politics in entertainment. That's the side you're saying is is being bad. It's refreshing, I guess, to blame it on the people who actually are behind it for once, but then you follow it with because it's all Toxic Men. It's not. If you're talking about those audiences for those shows, it's not Toxic Men. And I'm telling you straight up, most of the the toxic manab fanboy cheer chuds are usually responding to what they're being doled out at them. Um, and they're usually responding to that. Even me as a woman, that's what I was responding to because any criticism, even very fair, valid criticism is met with, you know, name calling and disdain. So, you get what you get. I don't know what to tell you. Is it going to do well? Probably not. Doesn't look like it's tracking well. And you can blame competition a little bit, but I don't think that's what's going on here. And I and honestly, even her comments aren't going to drive people away from the box office because most people don't even know what she said. The normies out there don't follow this stuff. They're not even aware she said it. Most likely they're just not going to come because they don't care and they have no interest to see this movie. I could be wrong, but that's the way it's looking. So, what do you think? Comment, let us know. Like, and subscribe, and we'll talk to you later. Bye.
