This is a masterclass in how precision grading transforms basic excavation into critical structural insurance. It proves that the most sophisticated engineering is often found in the subtle slopes that keep a foundation dry.

Installing Stone Around The Building And New DrivewayAdded:
All right, good morning everybody.
Robert's here with the motor grader. We went and got that yesterday after work.
That way I can kind of run over this, get this evened up a little bit better.
Uh we're going to finish moving that dirt this morning. Then I'm going to send him to start getting rock. That way uh we can start getting uh stone put over all of this down here before it starts raining tomorrow. I'd like to get all of this covered in stone and then have it just where the driveway is left.
We can do that while it's raining or after it's done raining because there's kind of already a stone base. But once this gets wet, this is going to be a slimy, slick mess. So, I'd like to go ahead and get uh all of this pretty much done down here today is the plan.
Getting those big scoops. So, I'll let him get a couple more. I'll finish digging this out.
It'd be nice if the skid steer would dig this, but the the ground's just too hard. It just sits there and spins.
So, no need to sitting there wearing out the underc carriage trying to get a half a bucket full. So, I sit here with the excavator, cut it out, get it piled up.
He can get a scoop of loose dirt very easily. So, this is looking a lot better. Really soften that slope coming down into here now. So, we'll get uh we got about another dump truck load to move. I'll go ahead and send him to go get a load of rock. Then I'll jump on the motor grader, get that fine graded, make sure this swell is draining all directions. That way, it'll be ready when he gets back. He can start dumping rock and I'll finish grading this out.
And man, we have a world of dirt back there to spread out.
Or I do. I'll work on that while he is hauling rock.
Heat. Heat.
Yeah.
Heat.
All right, so we've got a rainstorm that has popped up out of nowhere, which is not going to be good for this.
So, I'm going to blade over this with the motor graater, try to get this sllicked up, jump on the roller, kind of roll all that in. I do have some loose dirt up here by the garage doors where I filled it in.
And just trying to get all of this down to the grade that it needs to be.
Robert is on the truck. He's going to go get some stone and bring it back.

Hey. Hey.
All right, we got our first load of rock coming in.
Let him dump that and go back and get some more. And hopefully I can get this covered before it gets too wet.
Maybe that rain will go around us.
There we have it. About 14 15 more.

All right, coming along. Gotten. That was load number six. This is load number seven. We're going to uh add a little bit more right in here. Then tomorrow, if it doesn't rain too much, we'll start on our driveway heading out.

Well, I think it was a good day today.
We got all the dirt cut out here this morning. I fine graded everything.
Robert went and got me eight loads of stone. We got that put down. Still need six more to go to the road. We'll do that tomorrow, weather permitting.
I got all that put down. He's rolling that in. That looks really good.
Let the owner come out here and see if he wants to maybe add another load right here to make that a little bit wider.
And also spent a better part of the afternoon knocking down the 40 loads of dirt that we had dumped back here and covering it with the top soil. So, got a lot of grass in it. Uh, a little bit hard to grade out, but I'm hoping that Bermuda grass should probably sprout back. So, all that sllicked up.
I don't think I took a before video back here, but the building was about two 2 and 1/2 ft out of the ground and uh was able to get all that back filled. So, got a nice flat area back here and was also able to back fill this side over here as well.
So, now we got good drainage away from the building.
Lunar was talking about maybe doing some more stone over here. I'm not sure. Just have to wait and see what his thoughts are. Told him I'd go ahead and do this that way he could look at it. But man, that looks good there.
Got a nice big parking area in front of the building. Comes down and to the swell right here. Got some rock on that.
I'll end up pulling a little bit more dirt along that top edge right there.
All right, good morning. We're getting the first load of rock brought in.
customer wanted to make an additional parking pad over here right there.
Um, so I'm cutting this out this morning. I had it all back filled, but he wanted to um add about another 30 or 40 foot of stone over here for additional parking.
So, cutting that out this morning while we're here. It just makes sense to go ahead and do it. So, Robert's got 10 more loads of rock he's got to haul.
Today we had six for the driveway and this is going to take another three or four more. So, uh yeah, if he doesn't strow it all the way to the end of the building, we'll be good.
Got to shovel that out. And I'll go ahead and start taking the stone and curving it around to the side of the building here.
All right, so we've hauled four more loads this morning. He's gone back to get the rest to do the driveway. I've been just kind of plucking away at this.
It's been a little bit aggravating just with this swell and the curve and the slope. It's been a bit of a pain in the butt to grade, but I have gotten it. And I'm going to take the roller and roll everything in. We added another I don't know 40 45 ft for extra parking over here on the side of the building. And that water will now come through here like it has been and will run off through there.
I had to fill that in just a little bit with all the utilities. There's pipes, water line, everything. I couldn't cut that down as much as I wanted to. So, I just kind of raise that up a couple more just to get a little bit better drainage. So, let's roll everything in.

And now we're going to tailgate spread this what we can. and there's a lot of trees, but uh I couldn't really tailgate spread it right here with the swell and the slopes and it's just easier to do it with the skid steer. But if it's a long straight path, it's definitely easier to tailgate spread it.
But there's some areas with the trees.
We're not going to be able to That'll work.
All right. All right. So, I just went and got us some lunch and Robert spread the second load right there. We got to watch around the trees right there. Uh probably drive in spread back this way and then maybe the rest we can work in from the road. We'll just have to see how that goes with all those trees. It's kind of hard to tailgate spread it, but we'll do what we can.
We've got all that stone spread. Need one more load up there at the road. I'm going to go ahead and take the the uh roller and roll all this in. So, all we got to do is spread that last load.
We'll let him probably run back to the house, grab the trailer, and we'll get the skid steer and the roller loaded up for tomorrow's project.
Heat up here.
Last load.
Oh, you can raise it up. He only got like 200 lb left in there. All right, I'm going to spread this out. Let him go get the trailer and we'll get this equipment out of here.
And that is a wrap. Got the driveway mulched very first thing, regraded and got stone put down on that. It's hard to believe 3 days ago that was dirt pretty much all the way to the building. We ended up cutting out 45 dump truck loads of dirt, hauling it around back, getting drainage out away from the building, 35 ft to a swale where it now runs to the left and to the right of the building.
fine graded all that. Pulled this hill back some, put all the dirt behind the building, ended up grading that and then hauled in right at 360 tons of stone.
Got that put down around the building and everything turned out really well. I'd like to see it after our first rain. Everything should drain. I think the highest point was like right here that way. And originally we were stopping stone at the end of the building. So that's why I made the high point like out from this door. Split the difference. But then he decided to add some more stone over here, which kind of didn't change a whole lot, but it did kind of raise that up so that I had to kind of regrade this swale so that everything would still drain, but ended up adding about 45 ft of stone over here to make a larger parking area beside the building to put trucks and trailers over here.
Well, that is a wrap. Three days start to finish. I think it went well.
