When focusing on near objects, the ciliary muscles contract to accommodate vision, but prolonged contraction causes muscle fatigue and eye strain; the suspensory ligaments are the opposite of ciliary muscles, becoming slack when ciliary muscles contract.

Day 3/15 of rescuing your IGCSE Biology grades本站添加:
If you have a pen in front of you right now, I want you to focus it close to your eyes. And I want you to tell me what happens if you keep doing this for like one or two minutes. You're going to notice that your eyes feel a little bit strained. What happens is pretty much your siliary muscles get fatigued cuz these muscles are not really meant to be contracted for a very long amount of time. When you're looking at an ear object, your siliary muscles are actually contracted. The suspensory ligaments, I like to think of them as being the opposite of the siliary muscles. So when they're contracted, the suspension ligaments will be slack.
