When stocking a pond, selecting fish species with different mouth sizes and feeding habits creates a balanced ecosystem where species complement rather than compete for resources. Bluegill, with their smaller mouths, consume different forage than larger-mouthed fish like bass, making them ideal bait fish for predator fish populations. This strategic species selection ensures sustainable pond management by preventing overpopulation of any single species and maintaining ecological balance.

Stocking Mumbles' Pond Ep. 3 _ Can I CATCH THE LIMIT? // Whitt Acres
Added:Welcome back to Woodacres. Today in this episode of Stalking Mumbles Pond, we're going to be attempting to catch our daily limit of bluegill. Oh, he's off.
He's off. No, no. Stay with me, buddy.
I'll give you a good home.
Huh, pup. And we have a perfect day to do it. It shouldn't be too hot today.
It's only a high of 75, huh? Fish, we're not getting any more of you right now.
We need to get some more from Mumbles Pond out there. And so far, we've caught every fish that went in Mumbles Pond. In the first episode, we were able to catch eight little bluegill, and we put those out in Mumbles Pond. Actually, I do think one of those was a green sunfish, looking back at the video. And I'm hoping I didn't have more than one green sunfish, cuz we really don't want them breeding. Even though that it is possible that that one green sunfish could crossbreed with the other bluegill and cause a problem, I'm not too worried about it. If we catch green sunfish out of Mumbles Pond, we'll probably just keep them out of Mumbles Pond instead of throwing them back. But today we're going to be trying to go for the limit of bluegill. And we're going to try and keep it to just bluegill. However, some of the other sunfish varieties are good for Mumbles Pond. We might end up getting some of those, too. But I think today we're going to try and keep it to just bluegill cuz before we put the predator fish in there, like a bass or a catfish, we really want the bait fish population high. And Echo Pup and I have been working on that. We even went out the other night. We had a little bit of time the other evening right before a storm was coming in. So Echo Pup and I went out to the lake and we caught a few more bluegill. We did catch some more bluegill. Probably not going to be able to just pick him up, huh? Oh, yeah. We got him. Look at that pretty guy. Yeah, we got a nice bluegill right there, bud.
So, right now, we should have 16 bluegill in the pond or 15 bluegill and a green sunfish. Now, the bluegill is also part of the sunfish family. But the reason we want the bluegill instead of the green sunfish is the size of their mouths. And the bluegill has a smaller mouth than what the green sunfish has.
And in fish world, if it fits in their mouth, they eat it. Oh, the geyser. So, we want the bluegill cuz it has a small mouth and it's not going to be eating the same bait that the largemouth bass will be eating. Whenever the largemouth bass are a little bit smaller, they end up eating the same that a green sunfish eats because they have a similar sized mouth. But for the most part, a bluegill always has a smaller mouth than a bass.
So, their forage is a little bit different. So, they actually make good complimentary partners in a pond cuz they're not trying to eat the same forage. But then, a bass can eat a bluegill. Huh, pup? I know. We're getting ready now. So far, like I said, we've caught all the fish that we put in Mumble's Pond. Some people were saying we can just buy fish to stock it, and that's just not as fun. And it's expensive, too. I went to my local bait shop and their minnows are $4.50 for 12.
And that is just not a lot. So, I don't know what they are around you, but I feel that's a little bit too expensive to try and buy those per fish to stock the pond, especially since a frog might even eat them. Huh, pups. So, I think we're going to have to stick to trapping. But also, all the bait that we've been using to catch the fish has also been harvested here on the homestead. I've just been going out in the evening with Echo Pup and just digging holes trying to harvest some earthworms. And we knew we wanted to go fishing today. So, we had to go out and harvest some earthworms last night, too.
I'm pup. And I just got a handful of worms right there. That was a good spot.
There was like a highway of worms in there. Let me get these into the bucket.
We almost have a full pot here. We are filling it up tonight.
Pop. You find any over there? We're just collecting up some worms over by the collection pond tonight. I know I want to go fishing tomorrow, so we got to get some bait. And over here by the collection pond, I have a bunch of just debris that I threw in here from the garden. Just some prunings. And it was a good spot for the worms.
Just keep looking here. Oh yeah, there's another. Look at that biggie juicy worm.
There's another. Told you this was a good spot. They are loving this garden pruning spot. There's another. Going to get a nice grouping here cuz we got to catch a lot of fish. Here's another.
I'll leave the baby go. You keep growing, bud. I'll look for you next time. You, too. Okay, this one's juicy enough. We'll take him. Getting some worms out of this clump.
Did you find any pup? Let me know.
Just get a few more. I think we have a lot in the pot already.
Come here. Oh, they're getting out of my hands. Getting out of my hands. Oh, we just have a handful of worms here.
[snorts] Come here. Come here. You, too. Get these in the bucket.
It's definitely more than we had last time. Pup, stay in there.
Yeah, we're filling this pot up. It's almost full. But look at this sunflower that popped up. volunteered right here next to the collection pond. It's going to look beautiful. And the dlies are framing this in nicely. I've been waiting for those to bloom because I might move those up and expand the collection pond here, but I didn't want to do that and disturb the bloom this year. But this is working out well for a worm farm. Maybe I don't even have to make one myself. All I have to do is just harvest. Hop.
Let me get Let me get back where it's a little wetter. Watch those toes.
Oh yeah, this is the spot. I shouldn't have been over there in the top soil, pal. I'm finding these every scoop.
That's a juicy one. Hump up. All right, that's probably good enough. Hopefully, we can catch our limit.
Hup. And we'll let the rest of these go till next time. We're not We can play when we get back. Bring.
Thank you.
Load up. Good boy. We'll play ramp ball when we get back to the house.
Hey birds.
And now that we have the worms, I think we're ready. Come on, pup.
All right, now I think we're ready.
All right, we made it to the lake here first thing in the morning trying to get a nice spot. We're going to start over here by the dam. It does look like there's just one old man on the corner.
And this is where Echo Pup and I were the other night catching them. So, I think this will be a good spot to start.
And we're getting here first thing. So, we should have a good chance of catching them all day long. I am just going to be catching here in the morning and then we're going to have to take him back whatever we have and throw him in the pond cuz then I have to go check on Maverick. And Maverick has a friend over right now. So, I'm not going to be picking him up. He's going to be staying home. I just want to let him out in the afternoon. And my first thing is around 9:00 a.m. because I have other obligations in the morning. So, if I want to do something else first thing is after all those things. But, we're going to see how many we can catch this morning. If we don't hit the limit, then we're going to come back this afternoon and see if we can finish it off. Huh, pup. You ready?
And we're going to take two rods this time since we're going for the limit.
Double our chances.
Come on.
Get down here to the honey hole.
Where you going? Over here.
This looks good.
Oh, I think I left the worms in the truck. Oh, no. They're in here.
Got to try and keep the worms cool so they stay juicy.
We got a lot in here, too. We filled it up last night. Let's get all hooked up here.
Hold on, pup. Don't knock the rods over.
It's probably good.
Didn't toss one out there.
Probably get hit right away before I even get the other one set.
I think we have a size four hook for this.
Something light. Nothing heavy. We got to look out for that snake, too, pup.
There's a snake slithering around here last time.
Oh, I threw it right into a tree. And I'm not the only one.
Nice. Good start. Good start.
Oh, watch your head, pup. Throwing hooks around.
Lost my worm already.
Solid start here, pup. Try to look up before you cast, I guess. And then we do it all over again.
There we go. See what happens.
Pop. You good?
Good.
A puppy. We were going to bring the leftover bread. We forgot the bread.
It's a waiting game, pup.
What do you want to do? It's a waiting game. I can't just make him bite the hook.
You took my worm. Pop. That's a good one.
Ble. What are you doing?
Not going to catch anything like that.
Pup horn wart. What the heck happened here?
Incredible. Oh, I'm getting hit, pup.
I'm getting hit.
Pretty sure I saw it getting a bite.
Might have took my worm. Get this one back out there.
Oh, getting a bite right away.
Take it. Take it. Moving the bobber.
You better not have stole my worm.
Puppy. Is that a bite or your butt hitting my rod? I'm going to have to see if it's still on there. I got a couple little bites there. They could have just pulled it off.
We're in the grass, pup, come here.
Yep, they took it.
Maybe they're in the sun. Let's try over here again, pup.
It's there.
Someone found it. Oh, did you see that bird just catch a fish?
Just slammed the water.
He got one, too. It's shaking, huh? He's having better luck than us, pup. Feel like I'm I'm getting a bite.
I'm getting a bite. It's just something little. Take it. Take it.
Well, don't take the hook with it. Don't just take the worm. Oh, there's a fish there. There's a little fish there.
Well, there's a fathead minnow.
I should have brought the trap over here, pup.
Oh yeah, there's fish in here, Pup.
There's fish over here.
Might have to move over a little bit.
Yep, it took my worm. Pup, we're going to slide down a little bit.
Hey, stay with me. Come here. Come here.
They're stealing our worms, pup. They're stealing our worms. Not good, puppy.
Work with me here.
go to a smaller bobber, I think.
Am I getting hit? I think I got it. Oh, puppy. I think we got one. We got one.
Come here. Come on in. Come on in, buddy. Puppy, it's number one.
We got the first one, puppy. What are you looking at? That other dog. We just caught our first fish. And you're distracted. And that looks like a bluegill to me. We got to get water in the bucket.
Hold on, pup.
Oh, he's off. He's off. No, no. Stay with me, buddy. I'll give you a good home.
There you go. First one in the bucket, pup.
And I think I still have my worm. The hook's just in my finger.
Okay.
out of the finger skin and into the fish's mouth.
>> [music] [music] [music] [music] >> Heat. Hey, Heat.
>> [music] [music] [music] >> Got it. I think we got him. We got one.
Nice.
Number two, bluegill. Just like the first one.
Easy now.
Thank you.
Some coverage.
And I still have my worm on top.
Nice. Heat. Heat.
[music] [music] [music] All >> [music] >> right, we're going to switch this up a little bit. Have a little bag of dog jerky here. We're going to see if this stays on the hook any better than the worms cuz I keep losing my worms.
You want this?
Yeah. I didn't think so.
We'll see how this does.
I don't know. It's a little firm, pup.
It's a little firm.
Yeah, that's not going to work. Never mind.
I have corn. It's just not open.
Oh, we're getting a bite. We're getting a bite.
[music] Heat. Heat.
[music] >> [music] [music] >> Thank you.
Got that one.
We got action. We got action.
We got him on those lines. We're doubling up. We're doubling up.
Oh, it didn't come off.
I got snagged off.
Found a hole.
Work with me.
We got one.
Number three.
It's a be.
Well, that took some effort.
Three.
And I snapped off. I got to get that.
Heat >> [music] [music] [music] [music] >> up here.
[music] Well, I got to retie [music] here. We already snapped off.
So hold on.
[music] All right, I'm just going to one rod.
Too hard to manage two right now. Huh?
Pup.
We have three fish in the bucket. And they're stealing all my worms.
So, uh, I think I have a hot dog freckle pup in the truck. Might have to take some of that. Where's the big juicy ones? I know I got some big juicy ones.
Okay, let's try and go a little bit deeper cuz there are some small ones just stealing my worms.
Let's get it out there.
Ah, dude.
What was that?
What's going on here?
Oh, I missed a decent bite right there, pup.
This line needs rerolled here.
Dang.
Got half the worm.
We got to get more here, pup. Having a slow morning.
It's already 10:30. Hour and a half and we only have three fish getting a bite.
Take it. Come on. Take it.
Come on.
I think we have a bunch of little ones over here.
They're nibbling. They're nibbling. It's something bobbing it.
They stole it again. Pop. Stole it again.
Need like a cast net. There's a bunch of little bluegill right there. Too small for the hook though. Oh, this is like a little nursery for them. We got to try and get the parents.
The boil over there.
>> Got the little nip nibbles earlier this morning. That was it.
>> That's it.
Sorry. We better move.
>> Oh, yeah.
life. Dumping.
Uh uh uh uh. Nuhuh. Nuh-uh. Nuh-uh.
Stop. Stop it. Dumping.
>> Dampening.
Dampening.
Dampen.
I hear you, Pup. Might have to switch locations.
Well, Pup, we are using some worms today.
What is your deal? Get on the hook.
All right, pup. Let's tie up the other one. All right, I think we're going to take the bucket over for now. I got to use the restroom, so I got to put Ekko in the truck for a second.
All right, come here, pup.
All right, we're just going to put these guys in here. Hopefully, it'll be better than the bucket for the rest of the time we're here.
There you go, guys.
Yeah, we'll get you fresh water, too, every time we dump the bucket in.
All right, we're getting ready for phase two here.
Oh, yeah.
Now we can catch some fish.
We're not too worried about that bug.
Sausage for you. Good boy. Hot dog for the bluegill.
And we're back.
Let's go ahead and give the hot dog a try right off the bat.
See if it'll work just as well.
Someone walking another dog and I know it.
Hit right away. Hit right away. Is it big enough for the hook though?
Probably not. There's a lot of little ones right here.
Oh, it took it. It took it down.
Come on.
Don't play with your food. Just eat it.
I see him pecking at it.
Can't tell how big it is, though. I think it's just the little ones. Let me get away from those little ones. Try and go a little bit deeper.
What are you trying to play? Fetch pop.
We just had a fish jump out there.
Missed another one on the hot dog bite.
Ah, they stole the hot dog, too. Uh-uh.
Don't eat my hot dog yet, pup.
Buddy, work with me.
Oh, we need a bobber, pup.
Good boy.
I think we got one. Oh, we did. Number four coming in, pup. They like the worms better than the hot dog. Oh, he came off.
He came off, pup.
No, I got to rip him in here. I was being too ginger with it.
No.
Can't be missing fish, pup.
Oh, is that a baby largemouth? Oh, there's a bunch of baby largemouth bass right there.
>> Yeah.
>> Yeah. Yeah. says, "Well, my kids, >> I ripped it right out of his mouth. He was taking it."
So, >> it's got to be a small one.
>> And give him more time to eat it.
>> Yeah.
>> Probably stole my worm. I got to check it.
>> Yeah. Yeah.
>> I still have a worm. Little bit.
Here we go. That looks better, pup. We have the hot dog out on the other rig. Not seeing any action with it.
Here's the minnows, Pop. We need those minnows.
We're definitely going to have to come here and do some trapping.
Oh, what are you doing here, bud?
Is this where the fish are?
Big bird.
Hump up.
Not sure this is a good spot either, Pup. [snorts] Might have to just get the fish home and try getting a little bit later.
I don't want to lose the three fish we already have.
And I don't have a portable bubbler right now, which would definitely help.
All right, pup. We're just going to get some fresh water for the fish and take M home. It's time to get Maverick.
We're just going to go ahead and uh try again after Maverick.
Might try another spot, too.
Hump up.
Let's bring it in.
You got one pup.
[panting] Is this a pumpkin seed?
Think this might be a pumpkin seed.
That's definitely a keeper.
Okay, we at least got one.
Let's go home, pup. How you doing, guys?
Oh, yeah. They're still swimming.
Good.
I got you more water and a friend.
All right, we are back here at Mumbles Pond and we're going to unload these fish pretty quickly because I need to go up and get Maverick. Not picking Maverick up today, but I do have to let him out and feed the cows. And we'll check on my birds, too, while I'm here.
Make sure everybody's good for the afternoon cuz we are fishing all day.
Got the broilers out on their mini pasture.
Perfect. We're just going to get these fish scooped up and taken over to the water on Pup.
Hold on, pup. Just need the net. We're just going to scoop them and run them to the water cuz I don't want to lift up the whole cooler.
Fishy fishy fishies.
And I think we did get a Oh yeah, that one definitely I'm pretty sure that's a pumpkin seed. It's got the orange spots on it. Got the blue lightning on the cheek, but it's definitely not a green sunfish.
Let's see if we can scoop everybody up in one shot and then make a run for it.
Everybody but the pumpkin seed and we're good. Come on fishies.
Oh, pup. You didn't want to miss this.
Watch out frogs. We got fishies coming in.
Oh, big bird above. Big bird. Tell them, pup. All right, we're going to get these guys released. Oh, there's one jumping out already. This pumpkin seed. Let me get a Oh. Oh. Oh, lost them. We'll have to catch them another time. These guys are bluegill. Definitely bluegill.
And this one identical. Perfect bluegill. Got four more for the pond. I'm pretty sure that's a pumpkin seed. Like I said, they are all sunfish. Humph. They're all in the water already. No, no, no. Don't fall. Echo knee. Don't fall in there.
Still got to take you in the truck. And the pumpkin seed and the readyier sunfish are actually a good addition to the pond because they eat snails.
They're referred to as shell crackers.
I'm gonna get some of this water out of the cooler here because whenever we get some more fish, I do want to fill it up with fresh water. Good oxygen. Huh, pup.
We'll just get some of this dumped out here. Then I'm going to go let Maverick out, check on the animals, and we'll be going to another spot here to try and catch some more. We are far from the limit, pup.
Hey girls, here's a snack this afternoon. Give you some lunch in the tray. How you doing, boys?
Good. Hey, goat. Here's a little snack for you, too. They're pretty much out of hay right now, so I'm going to give them a little bit extra grain today.
Yeah. Keep your bellies full. Here you go. Don't steal from the goat.
There you are, girl. And some for the boys.
Hey, boys. I got your lunch here. Your hands are full. Didn't have a bucket this time. Here you go.
More over here.
There you go, guys. Little extra lunch today. You have plenty of forage out there, too. Hey, bull. Good.
I'm coming, pup.
Mavers, diesel, what are you doing, pups?
Mavers, I know you want to go running around. I know my hand smells like fish.
Go do your business.
You're not playing with Echo Pup. He doesn't like intact males. And Diesel still has his. Come on. Don't pee on the wheels either. Come on. Stay in the yard.
I don't even know what you are. Like a little lassie or something. I'm M. Did you do your business? Come on, get it done. We're not taking you home today.
Now, Echo Pup is intact, and so is Maverick for now. But this dog is also intact, and Ekko will not play with him.
He doesn't like intact males.
But Maverick has a friend over this week. My brother's watching this dog, so they're just hanging out all day. I'm just letting him out in the afternoon and then he can take care of him when he gets home from work. All right. Come on.
Nope. Nope. Wrong way. Come on.
Good.
Good. This way.
Go.
That's all. We got to go catch some more fish, Mav. Yeah. We'll see you next time, you pups. You pups. That's a fluffy pup, huh? Now, if you're not as fluffy as this fluffy pup, no biting. No biting. No biting. Easy. Easy.
All right, I can pet you both.
All right, pup. We're at a new spot.
This is the honey hole that we tried to catch minnows before in, but this time we're going to try and catch some bluegill cuz I did see one swimming in there.
And I'm going to try some bread. We have some sourdough everything bread that is just starting to mold. So, I'm going to put a slice in my pocket here and we're going to try and catch some fish. Come.
Where's your leaf? I need your leaf.
Call her.
Stay here, pup. Oh, big snake. Big snake.
Okay. Thank you for running away from me. Oh, there he is. He's in the water.
Good. Good. It's not on my foot. I appreciate you, bud. I'm going to take this spot for a little while. Thank you.
See any fish in there, pup? They're probably back in the shade.
Stay or Let's just see what's out in the middle first.
See if we have anything in here, pop.
Not seeing anything. Chase it over here.
Let's try under the bridge.
I don't want to spend too much time here if we're not going to get anything.
Not seeing anything. Chase it.
Oh, pup. I know you don't like this spot, do you? Hold on. We won't stay long. I don't think I'm seeing much in here.
Just a couple casts, bud. And then we'll go back to the lake, find a new side.
All right. I don't see anything, pup.
Let's get out of here. Maybe they don't like the bread.
I've only ever caught crawfish in here, so maybe that's all that's in here right now. Come on.
All right, pup. We're going to try by the bridge this time.
Come on.
Down under the bridge. This is the other side of the lake.
Hopefully we can get some bluegill off these rock this way.
All right.
Hopefully, they like bread.
And I also brought the minnow trap. So, we'll see if we can catch anything.
See if there's any minnows under the bridge.
Well, let's see what happens.
Should have brought my sunglasses. Pup, it's getting bright.
You're going to scare all the fish away from the trap. Pup, stay up here.
Oh, is that a bite?
Thought that was a bite. up.
Oh, we have a snake skin down here.
Better be careful.
There's definitely snakes around here.
Oh, an apple snail.
Little apple snail keeping the water clean.
Took my worm pop.
Where are the fish? It's hot.
Whoa, there is a bass.
You guys not looking for a worm?
What's going on here, pup?
We need something going on. It's middle of the day, pup. They might not be wanting to eat right now.
Getting a bite.
Trying to get a bite here. Pop.
Getting a nibble.
Take the hook.
Oh, we have some fathead minnows coming in. Hopefully they go to the trap, pup.
This might not be a good spot, P. Oh, we got no.
Oh, I do have him. I thought he came off. Good.
We got number five pup. Am I recording?
Okay, cool.
Number five pup. Got another bluegill.
Stay here, buddy. Let me get some water in the bucket. Wasn't fully prepared for this.
It's been a little while since we had one pup. Some water here.
Bucket. Back in the shade.
Okay, buddy. Hanging out under the bridge. Are you wonder if you have any friends?
Oh, pop. We got a fish in the bucket again. It's a number five.
All right, we're going to go under the bridge again.
Come on. Maybe we can get a few out of underneath the bridge.
Try a piece of hot dog, pup. [panting] We just had a big breach out there, pup.
We're not fishing for bass today, though.
Poppy, you almost lost the fish.
Can't be knocking the bucket over. What are you doing? Work with me here.
All right, relax. Relax. [panting] We're getting a bite. We're getting a bite. [clears throat] Everybody remain calm.
We're getting a bite, pup. Just relax.
[panting] See if they like the hot dog.
Nibbling on it.
Oh, they stole the hot dog pup.
A smaller piece on this time.
Oh, getting a bite.
I got him. Oh, I think we got something on the hot dog.
That is a little fella. What do we have here, pup?
Oh, it's a tiny green sunfish.
Yeah, we don't want this guy.
All right. All right. All right. Calm down. Calm down, little fella. You're going back in the water.
Little green sunfish.
We don't need you, bud.
No. Go back home.
Turn around. There you go.
All right. We need bluegill, not green sunfish, pup.
Must be some small ones, pup. They keep stealing me.
I hear you.
Let's try a little deeper.
See if the trap is doing anything, pup.
Holy crap, we actually have some. We actually have something in here, pup.
That's new.
Hold up. Hold up. We have fish in here.
Hold up. Hold up. Let's see what we have here, pup. Couple baby bluegill. It looks like we got some baby bluegill.
Yep. Three of them. Perfect. That was awesome. P actually caught something. We actually caught something.
Let's try it over here. Oh, pup. I just hit my head off the bridge. Throw it over here.
Oh, there was a little turtle over there. He just went under.
There's the turtle.
I see you, bud. Don't bite my hook. We don't need a turtle for the pond quite yet.
I know, pup.
We're fishing.
Give me a bite. Give me a bite.
Oh, I might have got stuck on a rock.
Oh, we got snagged, pup. We got snagged.
Come here. We got to crawl under the bridge. Oh no. Oh no.
Oh no. We got to crawl. Oh, I hope there snakes under here. I'm on the move.
That snag.
Oh, big old spider web. Big old spider web. Massive. Massive spiderweb.
Got you.
There's some little fish in here. There we go.
Might just give one quick cast out there.
See if something happens.
What is that?
What is that?
I didn't know we had freshwater clams here, pup. Look at this clam.
Can I take that to my pond?
I have no idea. I didn't know these were out here.
That's awesome. Another snail.
Another snail here. Oh, this one's dead.
That's just a shell. Pup. There's another clam.
What is going on?
We have clams in here, pup.
That's interesting.
Oh, that's just a shell.
Neat. I didn't know we had clams out here.
It's there.
Well, this might be a good spot for the bait fish trap, but I don't know. Not getting many bites anymore.
Is that a that a lure?
Little fly lure there. Treble hook.
Don't want echo stepping on that.
All right, let's check the trap pup.
We're going to have to come back later.
I'll let you go home, run around a little bit. You've been doing really good tied up. So, we'll give you a break and then we'll come back. We got four more in the bucket. Let's go check the trap.
Let's see about this trap over here.
Oh, we got a couple more. That is amazing. We're doing good over here.
We're not getting fathead minnows, but we are getting the baby bluegills.
And there's no size limit on the blue gill.
So, we can take as many as we want life. Come here, bud.
Little one. Another one. Two more.
Awesome.
All right, let's get these guys in the cooler.
And we are home with a fish. And I believe if we counted right, Pup, how many do we have? How many did we have this time? I think it was six. So, we are adding 10 fish so far today into the pond.
Pull this out of there.
Everybody good? Everybody still good?
Trapped in here, are they? Okay, get the net, pup.
So, we do have a limit of 50 that we can catch today. And it is a daily limit, not a session limit. So, we can only get 50, even though we keep going back out to get more. 50 is the limit. Let's see if they are all still in here, cuz we caught some small ones in the trap this time. I only see one dark shadow.
There's the dark shadow. Where'd all the little guys go?
Oh, there they are. A little bit harder to see in there. We got five little ones this time. And then a bigger bluegill.
Huh? Pop. Move those ears, puppy. I can't see anything in the bucket.
That is definitely a bluegill in there.
And all the little ones are too. We want to make sure we don't get any of those little green sunfish.
Yeah, it's definitely bluegill, huh, pup? Six more going in the pond.
No, you're not helping very much. Come here, Zit. You're not going to eat these guys. Let me just double check this one.
It looks kind of colorful. It might just be stressed out. Yeah. Let's get this big one in there.
Oh, easy, bud. I'm trying to help you.
Let me get this big one in the water.
There you go, buddy.
You got a new home. Double check all these little ones.
I don't know. So, that one looks kind of colorful.
Yeah, that one might be a green sunfish.
I'm thinking that purplish one is.
These look bluegillish.
Thinking this one here might be a green sunfish. I'm not going to put him in.
I'm going to try and sort him out and I can put him in the koi pond and maybe the bass will eat him. Yeah, we're going to Yeah, we're going to keep him out.
Put him in the bucket. Let me just triple check all these guys here.
They all look like bluegill. I think we're good. Three more going in.
Don't step on them. Go on out. Out to the deep water. Turn around. I thought I had six fish in here. So, we'll see if we can c Yeah, there's six in here.
Let's see what these two are. I think one is Yeah, the other one's a bluegill.
We'll get this other one out of here.
Oh, up.
Let me save you.
Bluegill on your way, bud. And the green sunfish is coming back with me. Unfortunately, since I took him, he does count towards the limit, though. Now, we can't let the birds out yet cuz we're going to be leaving the homestead again. But this whole area up here by the barn smells like skunk right now. We had to dispatch a skunk this morning because one of them did spray echo the other day and there's a zero tolerance policy. Huh? Birds, you look good out here on grass.
Little buddy in there standing good, huh pup? No one's allowed to hurt you. But all right, we're going to take a break. Let Ekko run around a little bit. I got to do a little bit of editing as well. And then we're going to head back out to the lake and see if we can hit our limit. Humph. And this guy here does count towards our daily limit today. So, we're not going to let him go to waste. If he survives in the koi pond, no big deal. Oh, puppy. Dropped your ball, bud. Now, if he survives in the koi pond, no big deal. But he also is likely going to get eaten by the bass. So, that's even better. And I think it'd be better if he was a snack for my bass. I don't think the bluegill are going to eat him.
Hey, bass. Where are you today?
Is that you down there? No. You under the rock? Come on, buddy. I brought you a snack. Must be in a cave during the day. Usually, whenever I walk up to the water's edge, he comes to see me. Where is he?
Bass, I got food for you.
I don't really want to just release him.
I'm going to throw them to the bass. And I do have my two bluegill in here, which I do think one is a real bluegill and I believe the other one's a red ear. And the red ear is good for this pond because he's a shellcracker and he eats the snails, which snails can carry parasites for the koi. So that's a good combination. And that's why we're not taking them out of this pond cuz he's actually doing work in here. Oh, bass. I don't see you, bud. You're going to have to come back for this guy. I guess you're going to have to try and find them on your own. I'm going to have to release him in here. Bass must be in the caves somewhere. I have three caves in here.
He must be in the caves. Oh, there he is. There he is. He's in a glare. Okay.
See if we can see him. There he is. You see him right there?
Oh, he just snacked them. He just snacked them. I don't think we have to worry about them anymore. But the green sunfish made its contribution already.
But that was number 10. So, we have nine bluegill that we just put in Mumbles Pond today. And number 10 went to the bass. So, there's still a ways to go to get to 50. Oh, the guys are gorgeous.
We'll be right back after a short word from our sponsors.
>> How you doing?
>> Hold on, Spot. You can have some when I'm done. I need some more worms here.
Came up to the compost pile by the chickens and I hit a gold mine. Look at all these. It's like a whole colony in there.
So, we're going to get a bunch of these.
And some of these are like a really good size. I'm not even going to have to split them. Like perfect for a bluegill hook. Huh, pup. We're going to dig through the compost pile, get some fresh worms here. And then we're going to be heading out again. Try and get some more bluegill. We're going to be putting the trap out, too, cuz I think that's going to be my best bet of catching the limit today. I don't think I'm going to be able to catch them all by hook, but I am going to get as many worms as I can. A spot. Hit them.
These are going to be perfect. We'll fill up on these and then we'll head back out there.
Oh, here you can have that one.
Here you go, Spot. You can have that one. They're a little small.
Now, ladies, I'll turn over a little bit more. Maybe you can get some more bugs.
There you go. Look at how many worms are in there. I should have came up here last night instead of digging over there by the collection pond. Look at all these. I don't need a worm farm. I already have one. Hi, Lil. Let me get some more worms here. Can't pass these ones up. This is probably like a $8 bucket right now.
Way to go, Dorian. Now, girls, I hear you.
[laughter] Good girl.
All right, pup. We're back where we were before. I tried going to the bridge, but it is oddly busy for a Tuesday night.
I'm pup.
But let's get a worm on. Get our hook wet.
He was a thirsty pup, huh?
Good boy.
Oh, that's why I'm not catching anything. Stole my worm already, pup.
Wax.
All right, we got the trap down there.
There's already a bunch of little fish around it. And we got the bobber out.
Now we wait, pup.
I'm glad we got this spot, too. I saw a bunch of little fish in there. I think the bait trap is going to be my key.
If we're going for the limit of 50, it's going to be hard to do it on a hook.
Careful, pup. I think I saw that snake when I walked up.
Oh, getting hit.
Careful.
We're getting hit.
>> [music] [music] [music] [music] >> one.
[music] Finally, puppy. We got one.
Number [music] 11. [music] [music] Hey bud, thank you for coming on in volunteering.
Yep, little bluegill.
All right, well that's two at this location.
Let's see if we get any more at the other one.
All right. Never fished this side before, but it is still busy on the bridge, so I can't get in there. I'm just going to throw this trap in the swamp and see if we can catch something out there.
Not ideal, but it might surprise us.
really have no idea how deep it is out there. I know, pup.
[laughter] Don't you like his spot?
I don't either. We might move here soon.
I'll give it a second, but [panting] I think we're probably going to move.
Oh, I actually caught something.
I did actually catch a bluegill in there. Huh. Maybe it's not a bad spot for the trap after all.
Might have to remember that another time. But we are going to be moving.
We got number 13 though.
Little tiny baby. Hey. Hey bucket.
All right, pup. Let's go to the Let's go to the bridge.
All right, pup. We made it. This is where I wanted to be. I can see baby bluegill swimming all through there.
We're going to get the trap thrown in.
Need some water for this fella.
There you are.
I don't think we have to go far with this thing.
I'm going to throw it right there.
I think they'll find it.
Got the fishing bag with some camera gear.
Huh? Pups. If they hit the like button, we'll be professional fishermen.
There is a little fella right there.
Let me just cast it out other side of these weeds.
See what's over there. I might just go cast by the bridge where it's deeper, but see what happens. I'm going have to move my bobber up.
Where are the fish, pup? Where are the fish?
All right, puppy. I'm thinking catching the limit might not happen today.
This is proving to be a little more difficult than I originally thought.
I agree. There's some little fish around it.
Hopefully, we can catch some more cuz I'm having trouble with a hook.
You don't eat worms.
All right, pup. This is going to be probably the last cast.
We're almost done, pup. We're almost done. We got to go close the barn. We'll check the trap after I see if we get a bite here.
There's a big jump one over there. That was definitely 18 in.
You bring a frog back here whenever it's time to catch bass.
on top.
I know there's fish in here. Oh, I'm getting taken.
I definitely got hit right there.
All right, pup. It's 8:30.
It's been about 12 hours we've been trying this. I think that might be it for today. Let's check the trap. I think What are we at right now? We at 12. 12 or 13.
Oh, I feel them. I feel them. They're moving. We have some in here. We have some in here, pup.
How many do we have?
Oh, it looks like two. Looks like we have two.
I'll take two. Oh, hey, life.
Yeah, it's a bluegill. [snorts] Oh, no. This looks like a green sunfish.
We're still taking him, but you know where he's going.
All right, pup. That's it. We got three more. Taking them home. Definitely got to come back to this area to trap because the trap is working over here.
If we gave it more time, I think we'd have more luck.
Puppy, you're all tangled again. Come here.
Nuh-uh. Nope. Nope. Come here.
All right, let's get home.
Breathe. Breathe.
All right, let's see if we can get these guys out by hand. This big fella is definitely a bluegill. Up. Come here.
Ah, puppy. Let me just get you.
There you go. One more bluegill going in. What were we at before we left? I think we had 10. We had 10 in the pond so far. So, that one was number 11. And then we have 12, 13, 14. You got an itchy spot? I get you, pup. I'll help you out. I'll help you out. Oh, look at that.
Trying to sneak a pond snail in there.
Don't want that guy. Came on the plant matter. Let's try and get these little ones out of here. to see which one's the green sunfish.
That's a bluegill.
Going in. Turn around. Head on out. Find a bug.
Another bluegill. If I can get it out.
Yep. Bluegill going in.
Let's check this smaller one. It's probably the bluegill.
Yeah, that's a little baby bluegill.
Just a tiny fella.
Head on out there. You shouldn't get eaten quite yet. We don't have a bass in there or a catfish. And then just to double check on this one. Yeah, it's a little more aggressive, little quicker.
Hey, bud. Yeah, this is definitely green sunfish.
Survivor. Yeah, that's a green sunfish.
We know where you're going, huh, pup?
All right, guys. It has been a long day.
I usually don't leave the homestead for the whole day. We did come back in the afternoon to get those fish dropped off and then go check Maverick, but we've been gone pretty much the entire day, and I haven't been able to get anything else done. But we were able to get 14 bluegill into Mumbles Pond here. We are far from the limit though we're able to catch in a day. Well, I guess we're far from the limit that we were allowed to catch for the day, but we were only able to catch 14 or 15 or so. If I'm getting this number wrong, let me know in the comments down below. But the two green sunfish don't really count. They do count towards the daily limit, but they don't count towards the fish we're stalking in Mumble's Pond. But this definitely isn't the last time we're going out to get fish from Mumble's Pond. And we have a better spot we can try and catch the baby bluegill in the trap now, too. Huh, pup. I know. But we got to close the barn and check on all the animals and feed the bass. But that's going to be all for this one. If you want to keep following along with the whole pond stalking series and everything else going on here at Woodacres, make sure to subscribe down below. Hit that like button before you leave and you can see me and Ekko on the next one. Thanks for watching. Good boy.
Come here, little fella.
Where are you bass? Oh, he's right there waiting on me. He's right there.
I'm going to see a shadow.
Boom.
I don't think we're going to have a problem with green sunfish populating this pond.
Puppy dog.
