Inside Jerusalem’s Saddest Night: Tisha B'Av at the Wall

[00:00:00]This is the saddest Jewish day in the year. We  are talking about really the most important day for the uh Jewish people. We are at the Western  Wall, a site part of the Jewish temple. And let me go backward just to show you where the holy of  the holy where the Jewish temple used to be. And um and what about that special day? Why so sad? I  will talk about it soon. Let me just turn around.

[00:00:49]You can see the dome of the rock which is a  site of the Muslims. But that is the holy of the holy the foundation stone. This is  where the Jewish temple used to be look I mean used to be and it been destroyed  twice on that day. got it on that day on nine of month of Av this year. It's in the  beginning. It's yeah, beginning of August.

[00:01:25]Now, let's go in to the biggest synagogue and the  most important place for that day cuz the Jewish temple was here and the Jews can reach that  place. It's not obvious. For so many years, for thousand of years, the Jews couldn't enter to  that place. Was so difficult for them to do that.

[00:01:50]The mostly the Muslims from time to time let  them do that. But not more than that. Then in that case, it's such an important event and it's  only the beginning of the then of the fasting day.

[00:02:07]Uh soon they will be here thousand more and  more and more and everything will be covered with people and they are fasting for 25 hours. Uh  look at their shoes. They are not using uh leather shoes only simple shoes. Uh they cannot cannot use  a bathroom. I mean cannot cannot take a shower.

[00:02:33]They won't take a shower. and they want to put  some lotion on their um but it's it's like someone died in their family. Guys, someone died. The  house of God died. And what left from the house of God in the hands of the Jews is only a part of the  plaza that the Jews can pray here. They are not praying through the wall. They're praying through  the house of God which is a Muslim place today. Uh that synagogue is divided into two men and women  department. Now look at the those women they are sitting on stalls. They cannot sit on chairs and  they are not reading the Bible. They are reading actually it's the Bible but only the saddest part  of the Bible. They're reading uh the lamentation.
