Emotional intensity alone cannot diagnose BPD or autism; instead, the pattern of buildup provides useful clues—BPD-related intensity often feels sudden and flood-like after relational cues, while autism-related intensity typically builds gradually over hours as sensory, social, and cognitive demands accumulate.

BPD vs Autism — Misdiagnosis追加:
May have heard this before. Your emotions are so intense, maybe you have BPD. And if you've heard that, you know how it lands, kind of like a verdict.
But, emotional intensity alone is not BPD. Intensity can certainly give information. It just can't diagnose you by itself. In some BPD-related spirals, intensity in emotions can feel really sudden, zero to a flood after a relational cue, like a change in tone, silence, a perceived withdrawal. And in some autism-related overwhelm, intensity may build over hours as sensory, social, and cognitive load accumulates. The lights, the noise, the transitions, the masking, the too muchness of the whole day. Kind of looks the same on the outside, overwhelmed, flooded, shut down, but the buildup can be one useful clue. Not a diagnosis. And that clue can help you choose which skill to try first. The video link below shows you how to read the buildup without necessarily turning it into a label.
